Kerry Lands In Kiev, Sanctions Against Russia "In Matter Of Days", US Prepares $1 Billion Loan For Ukraine

Tyler Durden's picture

While the world digests the recent Putin press conference in which he appeared to superficially soften his stance on the Ukraine, US SecState John Kerry lands in Kiev while the state department announced that sanctions against Russia are "coming in a matter of days", and as the US announces it is preparing a $1 billion aid package for the Ukraine, which despite the toned down rhetoric by Putin just lost the Gazprom discount for natgas due to non-payment meaning its reserves will be depleted even faster, suggesting a far greater urgency to providing funding for the Ukraine in what some have said is now a fight between Putin and the IMF, as the latter tries to drain what little funds remain in the nation, while the former urgently seeks to keep it afloat.

Here is how the WSJ lays out the itinerary:

  • U.S.’s Kerry Arrives in Ukraine
  • U.S. Pledges $1 Billion in Loan Guarantees to Ukraine – Officials
  • U.S. to Provide Technical Support to Ukrainian Central Bank, Finance Ministry
  • U.S. to Help Ukraine Trace Stolen Assets
  • U.S. Sanctions on Russia Likely “Days” Away – Officials

And in pictures and tweet:

Shouldnt the futures tank because of this??? I mean Kerry is know to fuck things up a lot...he will probably piss off Putin within a few hours with stupid remarks and re-ignite more 'aggression' from Russia.

Also, if I were Putin, that 1 billion dollar loan is just a way for the US to get Ukraine's support against Russia.

US sanctions aren't going to weaken Russia economically, they're trading buttons.

Putin can isolate the United States from around the world faster than you can spit. To this end, Putin needed only to declare that Russia sells oil and gas only for gold.
After that, the U.S. is becoming a third world country immediately. Check and mate.

Of course him funding the escalating wave of Palestinian suicide bombers didn't help either.

Point is, the US would 'freak' if he tried to price and sell oil in anything but petro-dollars.

No wonder the Germans wanted their gold back.  They knew this day would come when Russia would demand Gold for up front payment.  It only takes the Russians to do it and then the dominos fall.  Why because Russia is a big player in the energy market, and if everyone else sees them getting the gold for the precious hydrocarbons then everyone else with the black gold will want the yellow gold also in exchange.

The USA looks so dumb in the eyes of the world, everyone there heard Nuland's conversation, they know it was a coup by US and NATO, everyone knows democracy is a farce in the USA and in countries where USA says there is now democracy.  You can be sure if Nuland had that conversation then there must of been tons of others for all the other democracies the USA has brought about in some cases with direct military intervention, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan, Grenada, and all the Central American countries getting their Banana republic democracies

Really what is the USA, it is and Empire, we have military bases around the world making sure everyone takes the dollar. We print dollars and buy tangible goods for paper without any value.  If you dont like it we overthrow your government and put one in that does what we say, or we cause problems on your borders on in your country with armed insurrection or facebook and tweeter your kids into your squares channeling teenage rebellion to our ends.

- Russia will abandon the dollar.
- And also Russia will create its currency system , together with China and other countries.
- And also Russia will abandon all public U.S. Treasuries.
- And also Russia will refuse to return any U.S. loans.
- And also Russia will arrest all assets of the United States and the West.
- And also Russian will stop all Russian oil and gas supplies to Europe. Oil and gas from Russia will go to China.
- And also Russia already has banned the import of meat from the United States.
Goodbye dollar, hello gold. Goodbye to the United States and the West, hello China and East.

It would be stupid and suicidal for Russia to sever all ties to the EU and become totally dependant on China.

They merely need to price and sell oil in anything but petro-dollars, when they sell to EU and China, and the petro-dollar is fucked, due to the avalanche effect.

AFTER the dollar is dethroned and broken, and the US is bankrupt, they can do whatever they please.

The key is DETHRONING the dollar.

You're close. A panic is not a one-step, as many here (American mindset) seem to favor. Rather...

You create a panic (with massive series of dumps) AFTER a sell-off has already started.

You start the sell-off by switching sales of oil (and its pricing in gas) away from the petro-dollar.

IOW, first inflict a mortal wound and then finish them off fast when they're down. Tap, tap-tap.

To do that, both Russia and China and maybe a few others need to act in concert.
They might as well use the G8 date and venue in Sochi this June to work towards that (accelerated?) goal.

A billion here, billion there....mere chump change from folks with a money printing press. Let's see.......$14,400,000,000,000 in the hole and still printing and giving it away. What could go wrong?

The real question is, when did the House authorize this gift? Does the Chairman MaoBama just have an unlimited check book and the right to do anything he desires?

Secede or die.....free yourself from suicidal statist's.

Putin the Statesman vs. Kerry the Brzezinski Puppet. Why doesn't Putin assassinate the puppet masters? It would be so much easier, and efficient, to take out the men behind the destabilization policy.

How long is Russia and China going to tolerate interference from this little Pollock? IT'S COMICAL!

Good point.  Brzezinski persuaded Carter to back the Afghan Islamists, and look what that did.  It demonstrates the error of listening to people with divided loyalties whether they be Polish patriots or Zionist zealots.

Russia will abandon the US dollar as a reserve currency if the United States initiates sanctions against the Russian Federation, Presidential advisor Sergey Glazyev told Ria Novosti news agency.

“We will be forced to go to another currency and create our own payment and settlement system. We have a fantastic trade and economic relationship with our partners in the east and south, and we’ll find a way to not only reset our financial dependence on the US, but come out from these sanctions with an advantage for ourselves,” he said.

“Efforts to declare sanctions against the Russian Federation will result in the collapse of the US financial system, which will entail the end of US dominance in the world financial system.”

Nobody in Europe wants to touch this expensive Ukrainian Old Maid Card and liabilty. Russia will park itself in Crimea and a few predominately ethnic Russian cities like Sumy, Donetsk, and Kharkov.

Red is ethnic Russian:

Any civil war that emerges wiil be if Ukrainian neo-nationalists show up to take back the red areas. It will be paramilitary in nature, and Ukraine can't win unless the US neo-cons supply and support them.

Relax, it's just bizness. A Billion $'s to buy weapons from the arms dealers that pay off the DC bandits.

Good bizness, the bankers get collateral + interest, the arms dealers make bucks, mil/ind complex sells inventory and the tax payers gets fked when that particular treasury bond eventually lands in their MyRA account.

Now how's that not good bizness for the mafia, er, I meant bizness man?

That's less than the (annual) extortion payment to Zisrael, isn't it?

So for the Ukraine it's political puppets and out of the fat and into the fire.  Goldman Sucks here you go, one more lamb for the slaughter.

I think consuming all this Frankenkerry debt will give the Ukraine and EU gas pains.

China has long ago called for de-Americanisation of global trade. Vladimir Vladimirovich has stated that Russia will retaliate to any US economic sanctions by dumping the US$. US seems to be more than eager to oblige.

I guess the BRICS bank, with its own fiat currency for international trade, announcement is just a few weeks away. The recently concluded G20 meeting finalised IMF reform (and possibly the SDR as the international trading currency instead of the US$), but was awaiting the US approval for it to be put into action. It was unlikely that the US would voluntarily surrender its privilege of purchasing anything on the world market in its own currency and restrict its imports to what it can export and what it can earn as invetsments from export surplus countries. They can only accept that when forced to do so. The world cannot stop using US$ for international trade until there is a viable and superior alternative. The BRICS currency will provide exactly that when China and Russia switch to conducting their external trade exclusively in that currency.

Russia has a long history of losing then getting Crimea back while the world's competing interests vie to influence the outcomes, be they Turkey, UK, France, Austrians, Germanic (various states), NATO, God knows who else. I can't imagine Vlad thug Putin outlining this last week as his master plan to, once again, "capture" Crimea. "...But first, we have to hold a winter Olympics in the tropics! They'll never expect that!"

This thing is organic and as such it isn't thought through by anybody. These idiots are making it up on the fly. Not good. Not good.............
