Watch As Russian Troops Fire Warning Shoots Against Ukrainian Soldiers In The Crimea
Amicable resolution between Russia and the Ukraine as the market seems to be suggesting, or not? Watch this clip of what happened just hours earlier at the Belbek air force base, in which Russian troops fired warning shots aat approaching Ukrainian soldiers and you decide.

Russian forces fired warning shots in to the air as ranks of unarmed Ukrainian soldiers marched towards them at Belbek air base in Crimea on Tuesday (March 4).
Russian troops backed by armoured personnel carriers took over Belbek military airport near the port of Sevastopol last Friday (February 28). Russia's Black Sea fleet is based in Sevastopol.
On Tuesday a column of Ukrainian soldiers marched towards the Russian forces while chanting and carrying the Ukrainian flag. As they approached the line of armed Russian soldiers and military vehicles guarding the base, the Russian forces fired warning shots into the air and warned them not to approach any further.
Once the Ukrainian soldiers reached the line of Russian forces, the Ukrainian and Russian commanders spoke as armed Russian soldiers surrounded them. There were no incidents.
Luckily, this time there were no injuries and the Ukrainians retreated. What about next time?

Perhaps, but if you intend to mow down a crowd with an automatic weapon (particularly an AK)- you have more control if you're not simultaneously fighting the laws of physics as well as your adversaries.

Not sure. I've seen 74s and 94s in various videos/pics. 5.45x39 seems most likely but certain some guys are carrying 47s in 7.62x39 for the penetration.

I believe the best possible outcome for this crisis is for the Russians to get a Referendum going for the local population as quickly as possible. Whne the public decides, then they should let the Ukranian Army leave with their equipment while allowing them to save some measure of dignity.
The Russians can still get satisfactory results from this even if they allow the Ukranians that do not want to be involved with Russia an avenue to retreat in their own territory.
If Ukranians mount a counter-attack, then by all means, use the force required to push them back. The demonstration illustrated in the video seemed to me about wanting to keep some form of dignity. The Ukranians were not stupid enough to show up armed. They would have gotten all killed if they did.

Guess what would have been in USA or better still on USA base in Iraq, when you have a bunch of military guys walking to you with video cameras (several teams, by judge of it). When I say to you, I mean to a security post, which is before an airbase or some othe military installation, which is seen behind.
Here, the soldiers just fire in air, promising to shoot into legs, as they have an order.
Do not forget, that Russia has a very signinficant presence in Crimea. Also, it is still impossible to tell if it is Russians or Crimea selfdefence force. Judging by the weapons, it is not Sepcial Forces or VDV guys, it is more like a regular army, or Crimeans.

I don't think those were Russian regulars. I think they were Ukrainian "self defense forces" made up of ethnic Russians who are likely coordinating with Moscow.
If something like this goes south, and we all know the US would love for that to happen, it would be better if Putin can say that it involved only Ukrainian nationals.
