China Sides With Russia On Sanctions; Ambassador Warns "Western Nations Would Be Hurting Themselves"
Amid a Russian spokesperson "hoping" tensions do not escalate into a new cold war with the US, China has come out (perhaps unsurprisingly) on Russia's side strongly condemning any sanctions:
"China has consistently opposed the easy use of sanctions in international relations, or using sanctions as a threat.”
The comments from China's Foreign Ministry reflect the country's close ties with Russia and confirm what Russia's ambassador to Canada noted, we "can always turn to China if the West follows through on threats of tougher sanctions," adding that "Western countries would largely be hurting themselves if they impose tougher sanctions."

Russia’s ambassador to Canada says he was surprised no one bothered to speak with him about the crisis in Ukraine before he received a diplomatic dressing-down last Saturday, and added his country can always turn to China if the West follows through on threats of tougher sanctions.
In a wide-ranging interview with The Globe and Mail, Georgiy Mamedov insisted Russia wants to see the crisis in Ukraine resolved peacefully.
And he said Western countries would largely be hurting themselves if they impose tougher sanctions or make good on warnings that they could boot Russia out of the G8.

I have traveled extensively in Russia and did business there for 20 years. The same with China except for doing business there 25 years. Here are the facts: the Russians are peasants with missles and the Chinese hate their government about as much as we do. The ONLY thing they each have is a psychotic nationalist streak that is easily used/abused by their leaders. So what to do in the current situation? Stay out of it because the U.S. isn't willing to trade losing a major city to help save Kiev. That's the bottom line. But what the U.S.A. CAN do is stop playing pussy foot with the Russians first and the Chinese second. First, Russian leaders are (justfiabily) nervous when a strong U.S. president (which we admittedly don't have now) says we are willing to seriously emphasize becoming less energy dependent and are willing to back the play of Russia's neighbors who hate the Russians with a passion. They don't like those two things and will avoid them at nearly all costs. And the Chinese will fold like their hand if the U.S. ever tells them "fine, you sell your Treasuries and we will slap tariffs on all Chinese goods in the same proportion of whatever percentage you sell of your portfolio. Want to sell 20% of your UST's? Go ahead and EVERYTHING from China will receive a 20% tariff. Want to sell 50% of your UST"s? That's even worse so we're going to slap a hell of a tariff on everything from China plus hope there aren't any delays in your receiving oil shipments from the Middle East that have to go right past the U.S. Navy and through some pretty dicey areas to reach your mainland. The people dissing me are all missing a couple of critical points. First, this has nothing to do with American exceptionalism. I disavow the U.S. being superior to most other countries but we DO have a system that is more beneficial to people who want to live freely than communism or despotism have. The U.S. is in a war to survive. To survive we need to honestly appraise ourselves AND our enemies. Russia and China are enemies. They are bent on destroying the U.S., if need be, to attain a superiority in the world that would not be condusive to world peace. Are we always right? Hell no. But if the Chinese attempt to destroy our economy we can destroy theirs too. It's that simple. Call it Mutual Assured Destruction for lack of a better term. And the Russians are destined to keep repeating the mistakes they always have: they constantly fall prey to a strong man. Putin is looking tough right now and he's got the moxie to push Obama around but his country is NOT going to win an economic war with the West if the West is smart. That's a big "if" but it's the truth. I prefer pulling out of all the places where we have frittered away our national treasure like Afghanistan and Iraq. I don't think Syria is worth fighting over. I certainly don't think fighting a war over Ukraine is even feasible, let alone intelligent. I just had a meeting with my employer who told me that he can no longer provide the health insurance coverage that he has afforded me for the past 20 years. That's right, twenty years. Was it really necessary? And why not leave it intact, then kick control over to local business in the aftermath to help the nation recover economically? Nope, Phillip Morris took control (Nis). Makes you wonder if they ordered the hit.
If no opportunity exists to drop bombs, then they just conduct economic war and push regime change to put in place their own oligarchs / puppets, economically sabotage local production until ownership can be transferred to the West. In the case of Russia, they push through laws (under the puppet Yeltsin) that allow ownership to be transferred to the West, without even bothering to notify or even determine prior owners. I'm sure China would be perfectly happy for Russia to redirect European gas flows their way. Russia probably wouldn't mind that either, taking Ukraine out of the picture. If anyone should be opposing sanctions strongly, it's the Europeans.
The US regime is being remarkably stupid here, unless it's deliberately trying to provoke conflict against Russia and China, destabilize Eastern Europe, and blackmail Europe in general to be on side via energy restrictions. In that case, great job America, clap, clap.
No. What really needs to happen here is that the USA minds its own business and that the Ukrainian people get their act together to elect a clean government that isn't corrupted by oligarchs (of ANY nationality), isn't full of psychopathic nationalists, won't sell itself as a slave to NATO, and works on real economic reforms so that Ukraine no longer has to rely on sovereign welfare, blackmail and rent-seeking as a business model.
Welp, with China holding 1Trillion of our debt, all this tough talk on sactions just went out the window.

Why in this world would our president send warships into the Black Sea and park Carrier right outside in the Turkish Straits? Are there American iterests there? Or is this just a distraction form the disaster the President has at home as he attempts to take more Executive power? China and Russia are now close allies because of our president. Mullah Omar is preparing to take back Afghanistan as soon as we leave and Pakistan with its nuclear weapons as well. That's what he should be payng close attention.
President Obama is really good at power politics at home. His ability to maintain allegance while installing Socialism is incredibly professional. It like he's been preparing for years to do just that!
