Russia Threatens "Sanctions Would Hit US Like A Boomerang""

Tyler Durden's picture

With chatter of overnight invasions increasing and rhetoric surging among the non-Russian-allied nations of the world, Russian foreign Miniister Lavrov has some serious words of warning for the West:

Lavrov added that "hasty and reckless steps" would harm Russian-American relations (and bear in mind Russian lawmakers are already drawing up a bill to confiscate western assets).

"...bear in mind...."  Cute.

It's common knowledge at this point that there will be no sanctions.  Russia is only bringing this up now to make the US look impetent -- to make it appear the economy was the driving decision behind the US backing down.

Lots of propaganda going on both sides. Hard to keep track of whats true these days, but I think that much is clear.

"hard to keep track of whats true these days"

Ummm, Russia is still in the Crimea.

If we don't carry through, our "threats" will never work again.

Nope Rex and debtor nations have a huge problem threatening people who hold their debt with I outline below:

and the USA is still in Cuba... don't get your point?

Yep.  Much like they were in 1793.

The National Endowment for Democracy, on the other hand, lack the same pedigree.

Never have I seen a more incompetent set of ignorami than the current President and his crop of democrats running things in DC. They have truly established us as a banana republic.

Well, lets be fair, empires are often self-destructive, even without internal incompetence.  Empires need growth to survive, since they don't foster community or build useful things very often on their own, and growth (that is, invading and plundering other countries) is becoming harder all the time.

There's nothing even the best emperor could do to stop this ongoing collapse, except maybe delay it.

boogerbently's picture

We are no longer "growing", economically. We have leveraged and rehypothecated to make up for NAFTA.

We can return jobs to the US, at a cost to corporate profits, or continue our slide into irrelevance.

No disrespect, but that didn't work out so well for this Jewish carpenter, who overturned the Tables and Benches ('banks') of the Temple Money Changers.

They are still around.  He...not so much.  And his Followers and even His Vicar have to take orders from Money Changers these days.

There's a moral in there somewhere, I think.  :-[

I'm anti-religious but that one step was a good start in history to make it clear who the real enemies are. Not even Rome, though Rome was the empire of the day, but the money-changers. They were the real affront, offense, battle to come.

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's but whip the money-changers the fuck out the door.

J0nx, they still have the "Reset" button they can dust off and reuse.  Of course with the translation of the origianl button maybe that is what has been happening all along. They keep using it.

"Clinton presented Lavrov with a gift-wrapped red button, which said "Reset" in English and "Peregruzka" in Russian. The problem was, "peregruzka" doesn't mean reset. It means overcharged, or overloaded."

What do you mean established a banana republic.....we have been a banana republic from the day when the founding slave holders decided that the population could not be trusted to vote and created the electoral college.

"Mr. President in republic of banana." Sing it like Harry Belafonte in his "Banana Boat Song". It's really catchy :-)

yeah! and if it wasn't for bush #43 creating the entire mess and leaving it for the next unfortunate, we'd never be in this mess!

bush destroyed the country, period! he is a war criminal and should be try'd for 'crimes against humanity'. (cheney should never`,ever... see the light of day)

granted, obi1 has followed his footsteps in goose`step fashion... so they both are responsible for the destruction of america. i know, i know if only there were no 911, we'd prbably would have found another way to rally the troops. but, the american people are fed-up with war. they're broke, and living pay-check to pay-check with a pink slip from living under a bridge.

so, in summary-- every president since lbj, nixon, ford, carter, reagan, bush#41, clinton, bush #43, and obi1 have all contributed to the destruction of the greatest country in the world!!! both dem/ gop scumbags-- and what's sad is jeb bush is gonna be on the 2016 ticket v. hillary.

the world looks at the ussa and says we don't want your  recycled democracy of socialism/fascism, and corporatism statist to be our future.

thanks, but no thanks!

"set up like a bowling pin."

Now we will see if we have that debate that we never had in 1963.

disabledvet's picture

makes me laugh...all these "war mongering down arrows."
then again..."why have the debate...let's go all in" like we were fully prepared to do in Syria?

When last I checked that resolution still remained tabled as well.
Perhaps we should start with a debate on that one first?

"the fine Congressman from Minnesota wishes to speak on the issue before us...namely the invasion of Syria. You may proceed sir."

"Yes, thank you Mr. Speaker. I wish to begin by saying my hearts and prayers go out to our men in uniform who are not only currently in service but have been fighting this war for twelve long years now. The longest war in our nations history. I would like to say we did not ask for this bill...but having had it presented before us....

The words just roll off the tongue don't they.

Two were probably from paper cuts and the third could have been a thumb scrape from improperly charging a .50 during practice.

I want to play Risk with John Kerry.  It would be so satisfying to form an alliance with him, and then turn on him the next turn.  He would probably burst in to tears, scream "NOT FAIR" and run into the other room.

These clowns are used to making rules up as they go and having everyone cow to them.  Remember the kid in the neighborhood that would want to change the rules everytime something didn't go his way?  Then of course they'd take their ball and go home if you ever put your foot down.  That's Kerry and Inc.  I think a ZH poster awhile back labeled it perfectly as "Calvin ball".
