US Guided-Missile Destroyer Truxtun Has Entered The Black Sea

Tyler Durden's picture

As we reported yesterday, after getting permission to cross the Bosphorus, the guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun departed the Greek port of Souda Bay on its way to the Black Sea. As of a few hours ago, it is already there. Sky News reports that the USS Truxtun passed the Dardanelles strait earlier today on its way to the Black Sea amid heightened tension over the crisis in Ukraine and reports that Russia has now 30,000 troops in Crimea.

The naval escalation is not the only arms build up in proximity to the Ukraine: the Pentagon said six US F-15 fighter jets have arrived in Lithuania to bolster air patrols over the Baltics. The fighter jets and 60 US military personnel landed at Siauliai Air Base in Lithuania, adding to the four F-15s and 150 troops already there to do the air patrol mission.

As for the pretext for the Truxtun's move, it is only 300 miles away from Sevastopol for one simple reason: naval exercises.

Joint naval exercises with Bulgarian, Romanian and US vessels are to take place in the Black Sea on March 11.

The naval forces of all three nations have stated no connection between the upcoming drill and the tensions on Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula, where the Russian Black Sea Fleet is based, the Bulgarian National Radio has reported.

Vessels participating in the event include a Bulgarian frigate, three Romanian ships and US destroyer USS Truxtun. The US military described the joint military maneuvers as a "routine" deployment scheduled last year, long before the standoff in Ukraine.

Crimea, however, is some 500 km to the north-east of the location where the drill is to be carried out.

According to a statement by the US Navy, the Truxtun left Greece on Thursday after it was granted passage through the Black Sea Straits by Turkey, which controls their traffic.

The USS Truxtun will be at the Bulgarian city of Varna's port from March 12 to March 14

And the Russian ICBM launch was just part of a "routine" drill too.

But I did not understand: what name of country, near the coast which, right now, are located Russian nuclear submarines, on duty and in full combat readiness?

I just think that someone in Washington, not to understand fully, that Russia - is not Iraq or Libya.

Also, in the area of Spy vs. Spy games -- reminiscent of MAD magazine -- who knows... Anything can happen.

I do think that things are more complex than we often comment here, since this is more about "Full Spectrum Domination" ('DOD speak') than a 2D world of most blog comments.  We got a mix of games of PR & MSM Propaganda, Public Posturing, Private Discussions, Financial wars, Energy threats, Alliance making & herding, symmetric and asymmetric moves of men and resources... and all happening at a fast pace.

Putin already has what he wanted/wants.  No way he was giving up that port to Europe. Whatever the rest of the world feels they must do, let them, the prize is won, Putin had this plan in place for years. The "west" will move the goal post to be Russia not invading the Ukraine only and say they won and everything will go on as normal. Cathay will do the same thing with the islands in dispute, the west will dither, and Cathay will give up on a false flag and the west will say they won again.

If you're dealing with 19th century thinkers, you better quit talking about the "law" and start thinking like them before they own the world we live in.

Still, I would be shocked if Putin gave up eastern Ukraine.  I can't imagine the Russians would sit still for NATO missles on their western border.  Not thinkable for any Russian.  Also, I believe they lost as many troops fighting over Crimea in WW2 as the US lost during entire war.  Blood counts for some still.

No need for "19th century" to qualify "thinkers. Just "thinkers". And always but the words "international law" into scare quotes to put the concept into its place. States(governments, not nations) don't hold to "international law" except as it benefits them or only marginally harms them.

Not sure I agree... ANYTHING the West (US Neocons & Globalists) do that brings their NATO forces and Wall St WMDs (from "GS & Friends") closer to the Russian border, is a "Victory for them".  Even if they were to get "only" Western Ukraine, it's a move forward.

I rather suspect that, in the end, a deal will be reached for both sides face and claim a victory to their Base.

Will go out on a limb and predict the following, and let's see what happens:

(a) The Kiev Coup will stand,

(b) Tel Aviv will have a "Come to Jesus" meeting with the Nazis in Kiev, if this article is any guide:

(c) Said Nazis will make promises to "respect rights of Jews, etc" and thus get their blessings,

(d) Said Coup-Nazis in power will make similar promises toward Russians in Eastern Ukraine (just so they can have control), and then be quietly "rotated out"

(e) Russia will get Crimea via a Secession and "Affiliation" with Russia as an Autonomous Region (but not outright Annexation/Anschluss),

(f) the EU and NATO will absorb (most of) Ukraine, and

(g) NATO/US will get a port in Ukraine (Odessa).  This will allow them to blockade the Dardanelles and Russian Navy is cut off from the Med.

(h) US & Globalists will then plan to take down Putin in a few years hence.

(i) China will make some diplomatic "sounds" but do 'jack shit' -- until they realize (too late) that there is no one to help them, when it's their turn to join the NWO.  If they don't back Russia to the HILT -- NOW! -- they are 'fucked' later.

Fri, 03/07/2014 - 15:23 | 4522305 Herd Redirectio...

IDK, if Russia fears being cut off from the Med, then its likely they will make an ally of Turkey (which may  be difficult), from where an alliance w/ Egypt would enable them to avoid the Straits of Gibraltar (via Suez Canal).  Even then the Baltic and White Sea fleets would still have access to the Atlantic.

You have to go quite a ways back in history to find a Turko-Russian alliance (Byzantium, basically), but its not unheard of.

Remember it will "never lose money".   Right.  Relative to what exactly.

USD must be sacrificed for a true one world currency to be accepted.  NWO can't have their way until they weaken the US to the point where it's people actually want a new system to 'save' them.

Hence the whole Security over Freedom debate going on now.   It's all part of the larger picture.

You can have security but it will cost you your freedom.  But don't worry because after the pounding you are about to go thru the decision will be an easy one (hence the reason for the pounding).

It Depends and it has to do with the electronic warefare aspect.

The S-400 systems has to detect and react to the threat first,

If they are F-15Se, which have reduced visiblity to radar/electromagnetic they will be superior, if they are regular F-15e's then one of them may have EW package to jam the russian kill chain systems.

I'm Bulgarian, and the Bulgarian government is bought and paid for by NATO and Germany. However Bulgarians are slavic with deep cultural ties to Russians, including their liberation of Crimea and the Balkans from Muslim rule.

To understand what is going on:

1) The USSR collapsed and the slavic nations joined the EU and NATO thinking they would become wealthy

2) We were looked down upon as inferior by the western europeans

3) Our economies imploded a second time with the '08 grand theft, making us much poorer than when we were when allied with Russia, and heavily in debt

4) The EU/Germany has been blocking cooperation of slavic countries with Russia, in order to give unfair advantage to their own companies

At this point, I would not be suprised that when the EU gets hit with the next financial heart attack, the Russians using Chinese money will start expanding their Customs Union westwards. This would be a strategic victory as it would open eastern europe to the Shanghai Cooperation Union, weaken the EU and NATO, and be another donkey punch to the Clown in Chief.

Here's a typical example of EU markets in eastern europe.

There is 1 nuclear power plant in Bulgaria that supplies 40% of the electricity. The EU forces Bulgaria to shut down 60% of its output. The Russian Rozatom(nuclear company) wants to build and finance(at below market interest) a 4th generation nuclear plant in Bulgaria that would increase overall electric production by 50% across the nation.

The EU is against it,

the Bulgarian government is against it,

the people vote 80% in favor of it being built

the Bulgarian government nulls the peoples' vote

The reactor is canceled as Rozatom is refused

Electricity rates increase 300% in 3 months from Czech(German owned) electric companies

Bulgarian parliament gets besieged by the people and the police join the protestors

The president of Bulgaria resigns to 'protect the people and be with his family'

This happened about a year ago

Just one addition to this point:

"2) We were looked down upon as inferior by the western Europeans"

2.1) After the collapse on the what was known as the "Warsaw Pact" ( ), Entire industries in the economies of the Eastern European countries ( aka the markets they represented ) were for grab. Some western economic interests took over entire local industries and eliminated any competition that were left in the small, and now disorganized, economies. For now these formerly united small countries, were divided and easy to control and overtake by the western conglomerates. Many people lost their jobs, many of them lost their retirements due to inflation, but the western conglomerates did not care, they were only seeing the potential markets and were willing to remove (buy cheep, or with some other measures) whatever local competition, was available.

(...) and reports that Russia has now 30,000 troops in Crimea.

What is Sky News' source for this precise number of 30,000 Russian troops? Do they conveniently include Crimean irregulars (citizens militia) to make their point? Russia has the right for up to 25,000 troops in Crimea based on the bilateral agreement with Ukraine. 30,000 would be a violation of that agreement.

Yah, must be great fun to be on that boat right now.

But hey, the US interest in wtf goes on with Ukraine amounts to about a nickel, and that's only tertiary side-effects of what it does to western Europe, and if they don't care, and they don't seem to, we should hardly either.  The only reason this stuff is even on the front page in the US is because Barack "Motor Mouth" Obama keeps making inappropriate and empty statements about it.  If he had just said, "Tut, tut", then we could go have our training run with the Romanian navy (say what) on schedule and nobody not even Putin would care.

Stuff in the Ukraine will go as it goes, it's somewhere well south of the ice hockey scores in importance to 99.999% of the US population.  And only about 20% of the population even cares about ice hockey.
