US Guided-Missile Destroyer Truxtun Has Entered The Black Sea

Tyler Durden's picture

As we reported yesterday, after getting permission to cross the Bosphorus, the guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun departed the Greek port of Souda Bay on its way to the Black Sea. As of a few hours ago, it is already there. Sky News reports that the USS Truxtun passed the Dardanelles strait earlier today on its way to the Black Sea amid heightened tension over the crisis in Ukraine and reports that Russia has now 30,000 troops in Crimea.

The naval escalation is not the only arms build up in proximity to the Ukraine: the Pentagon said six US F-15 fighter jets have arrived in Lithuania to bolster air patrols over the Baltics. The fighter jets and 60 US military personnel landed at Siauliai Air Base in Lithuania, adding to the four F-15s and 150 troops already there to do the air patrol mission.

As for the pretext for the Truxtun's move, it is only 300 miles away from Sevastopol for one simple reason: naval exercises.

Joint naval exercises with Bulgarian, Romanian and US vessels are to take place in the Black Sea on March 11.

The naval forces of all three nations have stated no connection between the upcoming drill and the tensions on Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula, where the Russian Black Sea Fleet is based, the Bulgarian National Radio has reported.

Vessels participating in the event include a Bulgarian frigate, three Romanian ships and US destroyer USS Truxtun. The US military described the joint military maneuvers as a "routine" deployment scheduled last year, long before the standoff in Ukraine.

Crimea, however, is some 500 km to the north-east of the location where the drill is to be carried out.

According to a statement by the US Navy, the Truxtun left Greece on Thursday after it was granted passage through the Black Sea Straits by Turkey, which controls their traffic.

The USS Truxtun will be at the Bulgarian city of Varna's port from March 12 to March 14

And the Russian ICBM launch was just part of a "routine" drill too.

Is the Gulf of Tonkin in the Black Sea.  My memory is getting sketchy.

cossack55's picture

Also, is there often fog there.  Any Russian torpedo boats?

cossack55's picture

And why no mention of the SS-26 Storm (Iskander) missiles in Kaliningrad (Konigsberg) since December.

Top off the tank on your cars, gents.  This could get interesting.

I have this scenario>

Russia "accidentally" destroys our missle launching ship, then apologizes.

Obama does nothing.

TerminalDebt's picture

More likely scenario is Isreal destroys US ship, blames Russia and bombs Iran while whistling innocently

I thought Jesus Christ was in the WH?  I mean he can walk on water(at least on a golf course), heal the sick(Obamacare), feed the masses(EBT), was from a virgin birth(no one seems to know who his real father is), and every time he does something half the country throws up their hands and goes 'Jesus Christ!...

I hope POTUS changes his mushroom supplier and gets some grasp with reality soon. Or, I'm afraid, this nice elegant vessel will soon become USS Colender.

that thing was moving right along.
doesn't look like the new version with the "Seahawk" helicopter on board.
Nice weather...and yes, "real false flags happen with flagged vessels"...not "people bearing no insignia and wearing masks."

Those things are still coming off the assembly line...and they are deadly.
As with the "good new is bad news" jobs report so goes our "escalating de-escalation."

I realized that: US Guided-Missile Destroyer Truxtun Has Entered The Black Sea.

But I did not understand: what name of country, near the coast which, right now, are located Russian nuclear submarines, on duty and in full combat readiness?
Where are they? I'm just asking.
I just think that someone in Washington, not to understand fully, that Russia - is not Iraq or Libya.

The spice must flow.....to EUROPE !

Cold employees don't make for good work.

Bad work makes for poor profits.

Poor profits make for delinquent loan payments.

Delinquent loan payments make for bad Euro Bank profits.

Bad Euro bank profits make for bad international trade and buying up U.S. Treasuries that need to be laundered.

Bad Treasury purchases make for bad support of American debt.

Bad support of American debt means American Dream becomes American Nightmare.

And the wheels of the bus go round and round.

At some point it will make sense for individual countries to break ranks with the EU and cut their own energy deals with Russia.

Unless both want to get civil and return to rule of law and due process -- both of which they conveniently and happily overlooked.

well...Ukraine holds all the cards here. "You don't want anything to happen to those gas lines either." Ownership is 9/10th's the law...and they could start charging a "security tax" on those pipelines.

the press reports coming out of Lockheed Martin have been pretty aggressive of late as well.

If this thing was a trap...it was a pretty good one.

Shut off Ukraine's gas along with the rest of Europe's, and then "oops" it looks like Ukraine's non-russian gas lines exploded somehow.

I did not junk you, but we do live in "Interesting Times", as the Chinese might say.

Also, in the area of Spy vs. Spy games -- reminiscent of MAD magazine -- who knows... Anything can happen.

I do think that things are more complex than we often comment here, since this is more about "Full Spectrum Domination" ('DOD speak') than a 2D world of most blog comments.  We got a mix of games of PR & MSM Propaganda, Public Posturing, Private Discussions, Financial wars, Energy threats, Alliance making & herding, symmetric and asymmetric moves of men and resources... and all happening at a fast pace.

Seems like the Game Theory guys on both sides have their hands full.  Paging Good Will Hunting, paging Prof. Bruce Bueno de Mesquita (2/26, 4482162).

And as Mike Tyson was famously credited:  "Everyone has a Plan.  Until they get punched in the face".

"Ownership is 9/10th's the law...and they could start charging a "security tax" on those pipelines" and pay this "security tax" will be Europe. LOL

mr1963's picture

Putin already has what he wanted/wants.  No way he was giving up that port to Europe. Whatever the rest of the world feels they must do, let them, the prize is won, Putin had this plan in place for years. The "west" will move the goal post to be Russia not invading the Ukraine only and say they won and everything will go on as normal. Cathay will do the same thing with the islands in dispute, the west will dither, and Cathay will give up on a false flag and the west will say they won again.

If you're dealing with 19th century thinkers, you better quit talking about the "law" and start thinking like them before they own the world we live in.

cossack55's picture

Still, I would be shocked if Putin gave up eastern Ukraine.  I can't imagine the Russians would sit still for NATO missles on their western border.  Not thinkable for any Russian.  Also, I believe they lost as many troops fighting over Crimea in WW2 as the US lost during entire war.  Blood counts for some still.

TBT or not TBT's picture

No need for "19th century" to qualify "thinkers. Just "thinkers". And always but the words "international law" into scare quotes to put the concept into its place. States(governments, not nations) don't hold to "international law" except as it benefits them or only marginally harms them.

No Euros please we're British's picture

International law? Is that like what would prevent a group of armed terrorists stealing land of a sovereign nation, say Palestine?

Kirk2NCC1701's picture

Not sure I agree... ANYTHING the West (US Neocons & Globalists) do that brings their NATO forces and Wall St WMDs (from "GS & Friends") closer to the Russian border, is a "Victory for them".  Even if they were to get "only" Western Ukraine, it's a move forward.

I rather suspect that, in the end, a deal will be reached for both sides to...save face and claim a victory to their Base.

Will go out on a limb and predict the following, and let's see what happens:

(a) The Kiev Coup will stand,

(b) Tel Aviv will have a "Come to Jesus" meeting with the Nazis in Kiev, if this article is any guide: http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/1.578537

(c) Said Nazis will make promises to "respect rights of Jews, etc" and thus get their blessings,

(d) Said Coup-Nazis in power will make similar promises toward Russians in Eastern Ukraine (just so they can have control), and then be quietly "rotated out"

(e) Russia will get Crimea via a Secession and "Affiliation" with Russia as an Autonomous Region (but not outright Annexation/Anschluss),

(f) the EU and NATO will absorb (most of) Ukraine, and

(g) NATO/US will get a port in Ukraine (Odessa).  This will allow them to blockade the Dardanelles and Russian Navy is cut off from the Med.

(h) US & Globalists will then plan to take down Putin in a few years hence.

(i) China will make some diplomatic "sounds" but do 'jack shit' -- until they realize (too late) that there is no one to help them, when it's their turn to join the NWO.  If they don't back Russia to the HILT -- NOW! -- they are 'fucked' later.

Herd Redirection Committee's picture

IDK, if Russia fears being cut off from the Med, then its likely they will make an ally of Turkey (which may  be difficult), from where an alliance w/ Egypt would enable them to avoid the Straits of Gibraltar (via Suez Canal).  Even then the Baltic and White Sea fleets would still have access to the Atlantic.

You have to go quite a ways back in history to find a Turko-Russian alliance (Byzantium, basically), but its not unheard of.

silvermail's picture

"If they don't back Russia to the HILT -- NOW! -- they are 'fucked' later".

Why do not you write a sequel? I will help you:

- After the fall of China, the United States will begin to devour Europe. Washington organizes first war between Germany and France.
And the winner in this war, after will be at war with Britain.

Or someone thinks that the U.S. can stop and stop robbing other countries? LOL

There is a grand alliance between Frankfurt, Wall St and City of London, far as I can tell.

HardAssets's picture

Unfortunately there are real living & breathing American sailors on board that ship & most of them are just doing what they see to be their duty.

The real question is "WTF does that region have to do with vital American interests (and how do you define those interests)? And what obligation is there that would justify potentially  risking American lives ?"

Damned the lawyer/liar/politicians to Hell.
