Pentagon Warns Increase In Terrorism Due To Global Warming
For the past few weeks we have seen stock markets surge as macro-economic data has collapsed around the world. The 'excuse' given for this apparent dichotomy - weather. But now it seems "weather" is to blame for other problems in the world too. As Russia Today reports, in its latest Quadrennial Defense Review, the US Department of Defense (DoD), stressed threats to global stability and American hegemony posed by climate change warning that that an erratic climate will likely cause increased “terrorist activity,” among other impacts..."The pressures caused by climate change will influence resource competition while placing additional burdens on economies, societies, and governance institutions around the world...these effects are threat multipliers."
Like the 2006 and 2010 versions, the 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR) – a report released every four years on US military strategy and the challenges to its global operations – highlights threats, some more predictable than others, that global climate change will present to human civilization.
"The impacts of climate change may increase the frequency, scale, and complexity of future missions, including defense support to civil authorities, while at the same time undermining the capacity of our domestic installations to support training activities," states the 64-page report, published Tuesday.
"Climate change poses another significant challenge for the United States and the world at large. As greenhouse gas emissions increase, sea levels are rising, average global temperatures are increasing, and severe weather patterns are accelerating."
A warming planet will likely “exacerbate water scarcity and lead to sharp increases in food costs,” the report details, leading to devastated infrastructure and living conditions, especially in poorer regions of the world.
In addition, this fierce “resource competition” will only push the likelihood of additional terror threats, the QDR states.
"The pressures caused by climate change will influence resource competition while placing additional burdens on economies, societies, and governance institutions around the world,” the report continues.
"These effects are threat multipliers that will aggravate stressors abroad such as poverty, environmental degradation, political instability, and social tensions – conditions that can enable terrorist activity and other forms of violence."
Perhaps more ironically, despite identifying climate change as a global menace and an antagonist to American power, the Defense Department does not address its own unrivaled fuel consumption.
According to the Pentagon’s Defense Energy Support Center, the military spent $3.8 billion in 2009 for 31.3 million barrels, or about 1.3 billion gallons, of oil that was consumed at posts, camps, and overseas bases, TomDispatch’s Nick Turse reported in 2010.
Estimates as to how much oil the US military uses per day varies between about 400,000 barrels per day in "peacetime" to around 800,000 barrels each day during the height of the Iraq war.

I was just in rural northern Wisconsin two days ago. The damage is so bad to my property there that it is to the point of being extreme. I grew up there and have never seen anything like it. I am still not sure what to do about it. I guess it just has to melt before anything can be done. Winter is not over yet. I have no idea how bad this is going to be by the time it is over.

There has been a lot of questionable conclusions exposed recently in scientific journals. Just like the MIC, academics need wars to fight to keep the money flowing. That is not to say that climate science is all wrong, but to hold up the "scientific community" as if they were all saints marching lock step in search of the truth is laughable and has limited credibility in my mind. Many scientists are part of the "system" raping and pillaging the peasants like all of the other "elites", producing mountains of worthless data used to support conclusions that their masters want in order to keep it all going.
If it's about money, rather than the scientific community I'd be looking at oil industry, who have everything to lose if we ever take on action to tackle AGW. Actually that is not true. C02 levels were higher in the past. Had you studied ice core data 10 years ago you would have noticed higher levels of C02 at different times going back 400,000 years. In fact at times levels were much higher than now. If you research ice core data today you will find that never in the climate record has C02 levels risen above current levels. The reason for this discrepancy is NASA'S Dr. James Hansen. He decided that the ice core data couldn't be true because the "oceans would have boiled off". So he decided to have the data altered to reflect this because "it just couldn't be true". He even wrote a paper defending this pseudo science. Granted if you think the data is off you would repeat the experiments looking for the flaw but that's not what he did. He altered the data to fit the theory. That's about as anti-science as it gets.
I researched this 15 years ago and the "experts" couldn't explain why, if man is causing warming, why were C02 levels higher when man was not around? I was stunned to find out what Hansen did a few years ago when I noticed all the "experts" claiming C02 levels had never been higher than now in the climate record. I knew this to be false. That's when I found out what Hansen did. I still have the data and the papers.
At one time I was a believer in anthropogenic warming until I began to research. I found out that air temperature is not how you measure a planets temp. Oceans distribute the planets heat budget. I found out water vapor is the most offending green house gas and methane second. I found out that the computer models have never been right. Not ounce and some off by 500 percent. Considering that most modeling does not include natural forcing, it's no wonder they are off. I also discovered that dissipation rates of C02 is probably one of the reasons why the warmers theories and models break down. It's claimed that C02 has a slow dissipation rate and is why, despite the fact that it's less than 5% of the atmosphere, it traps more heat than water vapor or methane. This is where the theories totally (if they were honest) break down. It's likely that it dissipates much faster than they would like for their theories.
And I love the language games. If you aren't convinced of man made global warming they call you names and say you deny climate change. Climate change. What is different here? Oh you mean global warming? Or, man caused climate change? Or just climate change. Of course climate is changing. It's been in flux since the Earth cooled enough to form an atmosphere. We've also swung in and out of glacial periods about every 12,000 years. We are overdue, give or take a thousand years or so. But as you point out, realized or not, Humans are but a blip in the face of geologic time.
I certainly could be convinced in anthropogenic forcing but not with pseudo science.
And the moment you open your mouth and tell me that "the science is in" on this very complex, interconnected set of systems I know for sure that nothing intelligent will come forth. Science does not work that way. Climate is not the same as gravity, demonstrable, repeatable.
Of course CO2 has been higher "in the past". Like at the PETM. But not while H.S. has been around. There's been a lot of denier shrieking at the famous "ice cores", but mostly it's just misrepresenting data. And of course, we get the beat the scientist, this time the Henson guy. I look at the scientific temperature models compared to the observed temperature after the model was created, and they diverge. The scientific model was wrong.

There has been no warming of the lower troposphere in 17 years. What are scientists going to say if the temperature drops over the next 17 years, leaving a huge divergence between actual temperature and their models?

IN fact, not a divergence but an acceleration is taking place. Temperatures measured warm faster than those predicted.
The prediction is warming.
The actuality is warming in excess of the predictions.
