Most importantly, IMO, the requirement that a person under arrest be brought before a judge or into court (habeas corpus) can be suspended by the President at his discretion during a declaration of emergency. This would allow indefinite detention without formal charges being brought.

There is precedent in the animal kingdom of every trait you view as being reserved to humans, incuding the use of tools, art, language, etc.
My wife is a phychologist. Most sexual offenses (and drug offenses), of kids, farm animals, incest, rape, etc, come from religious rural families...and it's not even close. You act as if religious people are immune from homosexuality. Homosexuality doesn't discriminate with preference to religion, athiest included, and the statistics back that up. I know people who were devoutly religious but are homosexual. As a biologist I struggled with the idea that it could be genetic as it is not an evolutionary stable strategy. However, who we are attracted to is determined merely by our hormone levels, and our hormone levels are determined by our DNA. It's just that simple. It's not a choice or a strategy, it is code.
Athiests and religious people alike act like animals, because that's what we are. Don't confuse atheism with power grabs and xenophobia.
Lastly, morals don't come from God. Morals come from living in a cooperative society in which we must get along. Stealing, murder, rape, adultry, serve nobody any good in a civilization, has nothing to with an invisible man in the sky. That's why laws are made, conflict resolution, avoiding conflict in society. Any athiest knows what is right and what is wrong in civilization. We don't live in a jungle. Laws are not divorced from morality. Morality is derived from Law, the Mosaic Law being the originator of religious morality. Mosaic law did not have penalties payable to the state. And the mosaic law was created so that people would obey rules of civilization. It has penalties payable in HELL. And that is why you are afraid of death, because you are afraid of eternal damnation, for you are a sinner and there is no escaping that fact no matter how many times you repent. Morality and law is for living in civilized society, which is manipulated beyond survival of the fittest. Survival of the fittest is not congruent with civilization. Morality is redefined in survival situations. If society broke down there would be no law, and morality would suffer for need. I said morality applies to civilization not survival in a lack of civilization. No matter to me either if you think I abandon morality in these situations, what do I care.
