Russian Troops Open Fire In Crimea, Reuters Reports As Kerry Delays Russia Visit

Tyler Durden's picture

That Ukraine "drill" may be coming at just the right time. Just out from Reuters:

  • RUSSIAN TROOPS OPENED FIRE DURING TAKEOVER OF UKRAINIAN MILITARY POST IN CRIMEA, NO ONE WOUNDED -INTERFAX QUOTES UKRAINIAN BASE COMMANDER

More:

Russian troops opened fire with automatic rifles during a takeover on Monday of a Ukrainian naval post in Crimea, Interfax news agency quoted a Ukrainian officer as saying.

The unnamed officer from the motor vehicle battalion of the Ukrainian navy said Russian troops broke in to the base near the inland town of Bakhchisaray some time after 2 p.m. (noon GMT), took mobile phones from the Ukrainians and began trying to remove vehicles. None of the Ukrainian troops was hurt and the base commander was trying to negotiate an end to the action.

Further details were not immediately available. Russian forces who have taken control of a number of military installations across the Black Sea peninsula have not so far exchanged fire in anger with Ukrainian troops.

And at the same time:

  • RUSSIA'S PUTIN SAYS TOLD FOREIGN MINISTER LAVROV TO INVITE U.S. COUNTERPART KERRY FOR MORE CONSULTATIONS ON UKRAINE
  • RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER LAVROV SAYS HAD INVITED KERRY TO RUSSIA TODAY, BUT KERRY SAID ON SATURDAY HE WOULD LIKE TO POSTPONE VISIT
  • RUSSIA'S LAVROV SAYS RUSSIA HAS OWN PROPOSALS TO RETURN UKRAINIAN SITUATION TO THE FRAMEWORK OF INTERNATIONAL LAW, TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION INTERESTS OF ALL UKRAINIANS

No de-escalation yet. Any minute now though. The market said so.

The Ukranian military are only good to cash in checks. When push comes to shove, they have NO patriotism and are not willing to die for their Country. Their behavior during this invasion of their soverignity shows that they don't deserve to be independent. Freedom is something that you earn, not some guaranteed state. And history is clear on this freedom is only earned with blood, when you give in, its over.

It seems to me that in front of the Russian military they Ukranians and lowering their pants and bending forward in all fours!

I am sure that election was monitored closely by the UN.

If a simple vote is legal reason for a section of a country to join another country then I guess it is legal for a section or State of the US to vote and secede from the US.

Or... It could be they are under orders not to fire on the Russians as that is exactly what the little napoleon, Putin is trying to incite. He wants any excuse at all to start a full on assault under the pretense that he is 'protecting Russians'.

Mon, 03/10/2014 - 10:53 | 4530310 indygo55

"under the pretense that he is 'protecting Russians'."

And yet protecting Russians is exactly what he is doing. Napoleon was still a General and a damn good one at that. History has ridiculed him because of his stature but he was against the central jewish banking regime and for that reason he was exiled. Putin is also against the Jewish banking regime. He's no angel but at least he has stopped the creep of these insane bankers and their mission to take the world into private hands and control us all in a neofeudal system of debt slavery. Their plan may fail and Putin is the reason for that.

A referendum represents the opinion of the people in the purest form. Any repressive goverment will attempt to stop a referendum because of that very reason. They are frantic about this one coming up. The people cannot be truely heard. But if they are heard and the word gets out, then more people will want to be heard as well. It will spread. Look what they did in Greece with Papandros. He declared a referendum and he was gone by sundown.

Exactly, it took an unholy Alliance of bankers and nobility from every part of Europe to stop Napoleon.  It was the only thing they could agree on, because as soon as he was gone, the infighting and jostling for control resumed.

They knew they were at risk of extinction, if Napoleon had the opportunity to pick off Russia, Germany, England, one by one.

Putin's plan going well.
Stop West from "liberating" all signatories to Ghadaffi Gold for oil attempt.
Egypt saved with Russian promise of military resources. Syria rescued with Russian intervention. Crimea needed to protect TURKEY.

Iraq invaded because of Saddams intention to sell oil for euros. Afghanistan to pressure Iran's border.

Saudi Arabia pulling support for Syrian rebels is interesting in light of US/Isreal arms shipments to Iran.

Ya, Putins plan is going pretty well.

The US will do what its military/intelligence apparatus wants it to do - international laws and norms be damned.  This has been going on since November 22, 1963:

Over the past several days, it has emerged that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has been illegally spying on the US Senate Intelligence Committee—the very legislative body that is charged with overseeing and regulating the agency—in flagrant violation of legality and the constitutional separation of powers.

Among the basic conceptions of the revolutionaries who created the American system of government was the conviction that the natural trajectory of government, left unchecked, was toward executive tyranny. To combat this tendency, the Founders designed a system in which state power was divided among separate branches of government. The separate branches, under a system of “checks and balances,” were meant to limit the powers of the other branches. Legislative oversight of federal agencies, including intelligence agencies, is one historical outgrowth of this conception.

The revelations of CIA spying on Congress underscore the fact that America is run by an unelected, unaccountable military/intelligence apparatus. It is this apparatus, in conjunction with the corporate-financial elite, that dictates official policy in Washington, irrespective of which political party is in power.

The outlook of those who run this apparatus is one of utter impunity and contempt for basic democratic principles. In the day-to-day activities of the intelligence agencies—spying, conspiracy, infiltration, subversion, torture, assassination—the limitations imposed by the Constitution, the Bill of Rights and existing law are seen merely as impediments to be evaded or overridden. This contempt for democratic rights is consistent with a political system that as a whole carries out its reactionary foreign and domestic policies over the heads of the population, which overwhelmingly opposes them.

NEO-American Intel Meltdown

By Gordon Duff

March 4, 2014

http://www.veteranstoday.com/2014/03/04/neo-american-intel-meltdown/

"You won’t read about it anywhere. We could say the problem, and that term is an understatement, was caused by many factors. This is not the truth. We know who caused it, we know why. Insiders call it an “apocalypse.” It is the utter and absolute collapse of American intelligence capabilities.

"If current American policy seems disjointed, inconsistent and unfocused, there is a reason. American government is, and has been, more than “blind.”

Gordon is actually right on this one but the problem goes back a lot further. The privatization of the intelligence and essential 'national security' is just the final touches on this long term project. They've been slowly rolling it out in stages. The first big one was the Federal Reserve in 1913. Next was 60s and Vietnam war with the outlawing of the draft to turn the military from the idea of being a 'well regulated' militia with everyone having skin in the game so it functions sort of like a check against government when it civilian based as opposed to what it is now a standing mercenary army that functions and recruits based on paychecks and pensions not patriotism. Guess who was the biggest proponent of privatization in the NSA pre 9/11 why one James Clapper himself.

http://www.salon.com/2013/06/10/digital_blackwater_meet_the_contractors_...

...

The outsourcing plan was finalized in 2000 by a special NSA Advisory Board set up to determine the agency’s future and codified in a secret report written by a then-obscure intelligence officer named James Clapper. “Clapper did a one-man study for the NSA Advisory Board,” recalls Ed Loomis, a 40-year NSA veteran who, along with Binney and two others, blew the whistle on corporate corruption at the NSA.

“His recommendation was that NSA acquire its Internet capabilities from the private sector. The idea was, the private sector had the capability and we at NSA didn’t need to reinvent the wheel.”

Hayden, who was the NSA director at the time, “put a lot of trust in the private sector, and a lot of trust in Clapper, because Clapper was his mentor,” added Loomis. And once he got approval, “he was hell-bent on privatization and nothing was going to derail that.” Clapper is now President Obama’s director of national intelligence, and has denounced the Guardian leaks as “reprehensible.”

...

It is kinda ironic that this came back to bite him in the ass in the form of Edward Snowden.

The reality of today's world summarized :

Leading to :

In other words current crisis is primarily a monstruous oil shock, and only the beginning.

Reminder :
Contrary to the legend on the above graph (barrel price), the first oil shock was much more the direct consequence of US 1970 oil production peak :
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c5/US_Oil_Production_and_Imports_1920_to_2005.png
Associated to the rebalance of barrels revenues between majors and countries, and dropping of B Woods in 71 and associated $ devaluation.
The "embargo" an epiphenomenon, very limited, lasted 3 months, but pratical to hide US peak and "put the blame" on "the Arabs".

Take a look around, Ming.  You would have to be blind not to see what is happening in the world right now.  The positioning going on and the race for "real" assets.

The world is tired of American hypocrisy and being told what to do or, "We will cut off your funding."  As if we are the Sugar-Daddy to the world.  Other countries like their independence as well.  Independence in American means, "You can do whatever you want to as long as it is what we want you to do, when and how we want you to do it".  I say, BS!  Come to my house and tell me what to do.  See how far that gets you.  Why would it be any different with countries?  Are they sovereign or not?!  If they are, then leave them alone unless they are bothering you.  If they are not, then who do they belong to?

Mon, 03/10/2014 - 12:03 | 4530558 bshirley1968

I am amazed at the amount of war rhetoric and strong arm pushing that has gone on in conservative circles the last few days.  Even Ted Cruz got in on the "we have the right to make them" montra.

The Russians have been cool customers so far.  By now we would have killed at least 2500 including 500+ civilians.  But that would be okay because we are Amurika, land of the free because of the "brave".  Well let me tell you somethiing about the so called brave and the flag wavers that push them into this nonsense.  Right now America has a hard time with 4500 killed in the last 12 years in the little skirmishes with the third world countries in the middle east.  How do you think they will do with that many dying each day and the daily threat of nuclear warheads raining down?  That is what we are talking about here people.  The Russians don't mess around.  Just ask Hitler and Napoleon.  Who the hell do we think we are to demand that they "obey" us as if we were their boss or daddy?  People are not thinking this through.

Bill O'Reilly calling for us to crush the Rubble with the Dollar.  Warmongerers calling for us to freeze Putin's bank accounts.  Sanctions this and sanctions that.  Shipping oil and gas to Western Europe, because we have so much to spare, and then they won't have to buy from the nasty Russians.  Really?  And we act as if Russia has no leverage like massive oil and gas reserves, a pretty well armed standing army, China as an ally, major economical ties, and not the least of which are all those nuclear subs and warheads.  This is a loosing proposition at best.  We need to walk away now and mind our own business.  If the Bund Bank wants the Ukraine, then let the Germans go get it.  Last I knew, the Ukraine was part of Russia back in 1992 and the world didn't mind then.  Why bother now?

Last of all, I haven't seen Russia make any military threat against the Ukraine.  They have defended their naval base which is reasonable.  The Crimean Parliment voted to join Russia (of course this is meaningless because it goes against what the US and Europe wants) and the people will vote the same in a few days.  So be it.  Who gives a rat's ass?  The bankers that's who!  Well the bankers can pound sand or get a gun and do their own work.  America will have to decide if they are a free nation or just the muscle for the banking cartel.  Seems O'Reilly is okay with the cartel thing.

Definitely the last thing, why is Ted Cruz and everyone else talking about the "freedom" of the Ukranian people as if they will somehow be "free-er" under EU rule than they will be under Russian control.  What is the frickin' difference?!  Can they own personal firearms in either place? Not no, but hell no!  Then under either's control they won't be free.  It is just a matter of whose slaves they will be.

It was a genocide aimed at the independent, fairly prosperous small scale farmer.  Many of whom lived in Ukraine, but many of whom lived in Russia as well.  It was more class warfare than ethnic genocide, from what I have gathered (not that it makes it 'OK', but different motives means it wasn't a result of Russians hating Ukrainians, as it is often seemingly portrayed).
