Yen Breaks 103, Sends Stocks Reeling

Tyler Durden's picture

It's all about the fun-durr-mentals... but, just in case you don't believe that, this morning's angst over copper financing and China credit concerns has sparked notable carry unwinds (USDJPY below 103 and AUDJPY 93) and therefore US equities are tumbling (tick for tick). This morning's volatility in stocks was considerable around the open suggesting a lot of uncertainty and nervousness.

Copper collapsing. Down 10% 3 daays. Technical breakdown. Lowest levels since 2010 and that level ($2,70) looks to be breached this week. Rots of Ruck bulls.

The S&P is down a whopping 10 points! Clearly this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy in to shares at bargain basement prices!

Be quick before the algorithms beat you to it!

BUY!! BUY!! BUY!!

I spent a few minutes trying to find the Obamation involvement in this absurdity; but I didn't come up with anything; since it's "magic electricity"; I assumed it was financied by .Gov. It's really crazy, they put fuel cells in your Fork Lift fleet, and lease you a Hydrogen re-fueling station. Where do they get the Hydrogen? they use 40% more electricity from the grid to make it than you used to use to re-charge your lead-acid Fork Lift batteries; Fuck Me, Mother; everybody is out to win hearts and minds by being "green". I even feel like puking when I read this stuff; so it's making me green too.

I closed out my short position in ES, the futures contract on the S&P500; today at +$400; which is the same as saying; even, or nothing. I just got tired of watching the fucking Stock Market, I don't like the damn thing in the first place and it's not fun having to look at it every day; it can just go on without me; I'll find some other futures contract to get interested in; or do nothing. I know the damn thing is a hollow balloon; but the history of the market shows that irrationallity can go on for amazing lengths of time. I'd feel especially stupid to lose money to such a stupid market; so I'll jujt forgoe my possible proifit at its expense, and be a once a week casual observer.

I would call them false positives and become more and more nonresponsive to news items like these.

Do they call this 'negative conditioning'?

Meanwhile, Italy's Unicredit reported a $21 Billion (15 Billion Euro) loss in Q4:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/12/business/international/european-central-bank.html?_r=0

The funny part is - that it is presented as a "surprisingly big" loss.

Anyone here surprised?

The phrase "surprisingly big" is supposed to make you think this is a one off and there is nothing but sunshine and pretty ponies heading your way.

LOL; not likely. Surprised it isn't 45 Billion maybe. The Euro has really created a huge financial house of cards for the Europeans; I reccomend "The Tradgedy of the Euro", a book; to anyone who is interested, it's a very well written book.
