Chairman Of Joint Chiefs: US Ready For "Military Response" In Ukraine

Tyler Durden's picture

With diplomacy having failed miserably to resolve the Russian annexation of Crimea, and soon East Ukraine (and with John Kerry in charge of it, was there ever any doubt), the US is moving to the heavy artillery. First, moments ago, the US DOE announced in a shocking announcement that it would proceed with the first draw down and sale of crude from the US strategic petroleum reserve, the first since June 2011, in what it said was a "test sale to check the operational capabilities of system infrastructure", but is really just a shot across the bow at Putin for whom high commodity prices are orders of magnitude more important than how the Russian stock market performs. And now, as Bloomberg just reported, the US has escalated even further, citing the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, who "has claimed that in the case of an escalation of unrest in Crimea, the U.S. Army is ready to back up Ukraine and its allies in Europe with military actions."

So much for those peaceful hour long phone calls between Obama and Putin.

From Bloomberg:

According to the Web site of the Atlantic Council, Dempsey said that "he's been talking to his military counterparts in Russia, but he's also sending a clear message to Ukraine and members of NATO that the U.S. military will respond militarily if necessary."

"We're trying to tell [Russia] not to escalate this thing further into Eastern Ukraine, and allow the conditions to be set for some kind of resolution in Crimea. We do have treaty obligations with our NATO allies. And I have assured them that if that treaty obligation is triggered [in Europe], we would respond," Dempsey said.

According to the General, the incursion of Russian troops into the Crimea creates risks for all the countries of Europe and NATO allies.

"If Russia is allowed to do this, which is to say move into a sovereign country under the guise of protecting ethnic Russians in Ukraine, it exposes Eastern Europe to some significant risk, because there are ethnic enclaves all over Eastern Europe and the Balkans," Dempsey said.

And with that, the USDJPY ramp takes the pair to overnight highs, and futures are set to go green. BTFWWIIID!

More seriously, the real question is how Putin will react to this quantum escalation in verbal hostilities: wild guess here, but somehow we doubt he will pick up and leave.

We don't have any money to go to war.  We'll just assume hundreds of billion of debt to put boots on the ground.

Everyone needs to quit trying to apply logic to the argument of why we are doing this or why we shouldn't.  We all know there is no logic being used here.  It is all smoke and mirror politics and global elitist bs.

I just want to be sure that when the shooting starts, this prick and anyone dear to him is on the front lines.  Hopefully he will take Bernankster, Yellen, and Greenspan with him as forward advisors.  He needs to make a special-op squad out of all the federal reserve bank presidents around the country.

My hope is that Barry reistitutes the draft.  I have 3 sons at the right ages.  That way I can personally tell him and DC to kiss my ass.  I will open the ball from this end if they try that crap again.  They want a war, then they can go fight it.  Me and mine will not, and none of the "for freedom, liberty, and Amurika" bs arguments are going to sway me.  And if you want to translate that to cowardice, just bring your "brave" self to my place......just be sure you come ready.  It is high time people wake up and realize that the list of things to fight and die over is very short, and NOTHING this government has is on my list.  Ron Paul, baby!  You may not like him, but he is right on this issue.

P.S.  I reiterate that this is just grandstanding OR the elitist have decided it is time to use a major war as an economical reset and remove any independent resistance once and for all.

We are all Ukrainians now, headed rapidly for a world bread line set in motion by the same borderless oligarchs who’ve already given the Ukrainian supporters for joining the EU their reward: a 50% cut in their pensions. It is only a matter of time now before Americans will no longer be able to protect their assets from confiscation and ruination by this same bunch of international crooks who’ve been set loose upon the world by the U.S. Federal Reserve System.

Americans have nothing now to stop these international oligarchs in the U.S., and thus the world, except the knowledge of their methods and their guns. Americans are well advised to remember these words from Shelley’s Ozymandias:

‘Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!’
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

The Looting Of Ukraine Has Begun

By Paul Craig Roberts

07 March 2014.

According to a report in Kommersant-Ukraine, the finance ministry of Washington’s stooges in Kiev who are pretending to be a government has prepared an economic austerity plan that will cut Ukrainian pensions from $160 to $80 so that Western bankers who lent money to Ukraine can be repaid at the expense of Ukraine’s poor. http://www.kommersant.ua/doc/2424454 It is Greece all over again.

Before anything approaching stability and legitimacy has been obtained for the puppet government put in power by the Washington orchestrated coup against the legitimate, elected Ukraine government, the Western looters are already at work. Naive protesters who believed the propaganda that EU membership offered a better life are due to lose half of their pension by April. But this is only the beginning.

The corrupt Western media describes loans as “aid.” However, the 11 billion euros that the EU is offering Kiev is not aid. It is a loan. Moreover, it comes with many strings, including Kiev’s acceptance of an IMF austerity plan.

Remember now, gullible Ukrainians participated in the protests that were used to overthrow their elected government, because they believed the lies told to them by Washington-financed NGOs that once they joined the EU they would have streets paved with gold. Instead they are getting cuts in their pensions and an IMF austerity plan.

The austerity plan will cut social services, funds for education, layoff government workers, devalue the currency, thus raising the prices of imports which include Russian gas, thus electricity, and open Ukrainian assets to takeover by Western corporations.

Ukraine’s agriculture lands will pass into the hands of American agribusiness…

In the former Russian provinces of eastern Ukraine, Putin’s low-key approach to the strategic threat that Washington has brought to Russia has given Washington a chance to hold on to a major industrial complex that serves the Russian economy and military. The people themselves in eastern Ukraine are in the streets demanding separation from the unelected government that Washington’s coup has imposed in Kiev. Washington, realizing that its incompetence has lost Crimea, had its Kiev stooges appoint Ukrainian oligarchs, against whom the Maiden protests were partly directed, to governing positions in eastern Ukraine cities. These oligarchs have their own private militias in addition to the police and any Ukrainian military units that are still functioning. The leaders of the protesting Russians are being arrested and disappeared. Washington and its EU puppets, who proclaim their support for self-determination, are only for self-determination when it can be orchestrated in their favor. Therefore, Washington is busy at work suppressing self-determination in eastern Ukraine.

This is a dilemma for Putin. His low-key approach has allowed Washington to seize the initiative in eastern Ukraine. The oligarchs Taruta and Kolomoyskiy have been put in power in Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk, and are carrying out arrests of Russians and committing unspeakable crimes, but you will never hear of it from the US presstitutes. Washington’s strategy is to arrest and deep-six the leaders of the secessionists so that there no authorities to request Putin’s intervention.

If Putin has drones, he has the option of taking out Taruta and Kolomoyskiy. If Putin lets Washington retain the Russian provinces of eastern Ukraine, he will have demonstrated a weakness that Washington will exploit. Washington will exploit the weakness to the point that Washington forces Putin to war.

The war will be nuclear.

+1.  But before things escalate militarily, we need to remember Von Clausewitz’s gem:  “War is Diplomacy by other Means”.

So are Currency Wars.  And so is gold.

Thus, before going 'hot', Putin has the advantage of a direct and “nuclear” cold-war attack on the fiat-Dollar (and its endless QE that is back-stopping the Euro) with a “GAS FOR GOLD” program.

Powerful point. And all indications are that Putin is a Russian patriot which means he has multiple options as opposed to a banker patriot whose only loyalty is to the banking cartel.  In the end, the battle is not for oil; it’s a battle of freedom versus the oligarchs: i.e., the people vs the banks.

Both RT and Tablet: A New Read on Jewish Life shed more light on the Ukrainian oligarch Kolomoysky, one of the newly-appointed from the Ukraine's oligarchy pool of businessmen who is now in power in Dnepropetrovsk as “governor.”

RT reports that Igor Kolomoysky is Ukraine’s third-wealthiest man “with an estimated fortune of $2.4 billion. He co-owns the informal commercial group Privat, which includes Ukraine’s largest bank Privatbank, which Kolomoysky heads, as well as assets in the oil, ferroalloys and food industries, agriculture and transport.”

According to a March 5, 2014 report from Tablet, “’monsieur` Ihor Kolomoyskyi—either the second or third richest man in Ukraine— is not unique, but he is a figure of colossal wealth and importance in Ukraine’s industrial behemoth of Dnepropetrovsk. Along with his friend and fellow oligarch Vadim Rabinovich, Kolomoyskyi also founded the successful Jewish News One TV station. He has also helped fund and recently inaugurated the Dnepropetrovsk Jewish cultural center, the biggest in the world. In a press conference that Kolomoyskyi held four days ago upon being appointed governor,  he admitted that he had been put into place as part of a campaign of “expanding government outside of the purview of traditional politicians.” He also acknowledged that part of his job as the newly appointed governor of Dnepropetrovsk was to “tamp down separatism,” and spoke out against a century of Russian-driven partition of the land. Many Ukrainians assume that he had taken up the position mostly to protect his myriad business interests from being expropriated by the new regime.”

As to Sergey Taruta, the oligarch now in power as the new governor of Donetsk Region, RT reports “he is estimated to be worth around $2 billion, putting him among the top-10 wealthiest people in Ukraine. He heads ISD, one of the biggest mining and smelting companies in the world, and also own Donetsk-based Metallurg Football Club.

In the words of Paul Craig Roberts:

"The White House Fool has demonstrated the impotence of the “US sole superpower” by issuing sanctions against unknown persons, whoever they are, responsible for returning Crimea to Russia, where it existed for about 200 years before, according to Solzhenitsyn, a drunk Khrushchev of Ukrainian ethnicity moved southern and eastern Russian provinces into Ukraine. Having observed the events in western Ukraine, those Russian provinces want to go back home where they belong, just as South Ossetia wanted nothing to do with Georgia.

Washington’s stooges in Kiev can do nothing about Crimea except bluster. Under the Russian-Ukraine agreement, Russia is permitted 25,000 troops in Crimea. The US/EU media’s deploring of a “Russian invasion of 16,000 troops” is either total ignorance or complicity in Washington’s lies. Obviously, the US/EU media is corrupt. Only a fool would rely on their reports. Any media that would believe anything Washington says after George W. Bush and Dick Cheney sent Secretary of State Colin Powell to the UN to peddle the regime’s lies about “Iraqi weapons of mass destruction,” which the weapons inspectors had told the White House did not exist, is clearly a collection of bought-and-paid for whores.

Notice how the senile Dempsey (who by the way is as dumb as pig shit) dumber in fact than John McCain if indeed that is possible as he uses idle threat and the words "treaty obligations with our NATO allies" in the same sentence, but fails to mention the violations to the accords and international treaty arrangements the U.S. made long ago over the Ukraine with Russia more than two decades ago.

This doesn't even get into the egregious international treaty violations the U.S. has been involved in with everybody outside of NATO within the last 12 years alone on Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria.

Just ask Hamid Karzai what he thinks of President Remus telling him that the U.S. doesn't need for the Leadership in his Country to authorize an agreement for the U.S. military to stay as an occupying force in Afghanistan for however long it decides?!!!

Another major ploy that has to be considered here is that the bad guys need to cause this and be able to blame someone else.  That is huge.  Then they can have even greater control after the smoke clears.

Now I ask you, who is trying to appear as the "good guys" while continually stiring shit up.  I have a feeling that the banking elitist want the Russians to fire first and if they can't get them to, the bankers will sneek around to the other side and do it themselves (false flag).

Putin has been a cool customer here.  The West has done all the threatening and name calling while mobilizing military apparatus.  Putin has simply secured his naval base in Crimea.  If Putin wanted Ukraine by military force, the Russians could have already rolled into Kiev days ago.

Washington’s decision to provide financial aid to the coup-appointed government of Ukraine goes against the US laws, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said, urging American politicians to think about the consequences of supporting the radicals in Kiev.

Ukraine’s ousted president, Viktor Yanukovich, said on Tuesday that the US plans to loan $1 billion to the country’s new authorities are illegal.

“Indeed, in accordance with the amendments introduced to the 1961 law (Foreign Assistance Act) a few years ago the provision of foreign assistance is prohibited to ‘the government of any country whose duly elected head of government is deposed by military coup or decree.’ The relevant provision is contained in 22 US Code § 8422,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

So Bloomberg today just trying to put straw on fire and spread panic.

Here’s why we’re doing it, you know, we disagree fundamentally about your claim of legitimacy; but as militaries, let’s try to avoid escalating this thing.”

The US doesn't play that game. It's only non-whites, non-nukes and non-Christians they go for.

And when the US has to refill the oil they are drawing down the US will become a buyer of 5 million gallons. And at that time if all out war has broken out at any of the already agitated hot spots, the US will be buying at much higher levels.

But that's what the US government does. Stupidity.

Directly poking the Russian bear with a stick by installing a Neo Nazi puppet government right up to Russia's border. Does anyone in the administration understand the Russian psyche or even for that matter, Russian history?

The history of Ukraine only began a couple of months ago, when the fair people of Ukraine decided they wanted to be free, just like Americans and Europeans. Then the evil Ukrainian dictator slaughtered his own people with sniper fire, and then fled to the just-as-evil former Soviet Union.

It looks hot air! Dempsey just remembered that if a NATO ally is attacked, NATO will respond. Nothing new.

But Putin will not attack a NATO country, he will just impede an Ukrainian intervention in Crimea to stop independence declaration. I am even unsure that after the referendum, where pro-independence voters will surely win, Russia will accept Crimea as a Russian state. Maybe they will just provide military and economic assistance, but will not incorporate Crimea, at least not for now.

Bear in mind Martin Dempsey is the same White American Male who pulled the rug out on the neocons plan to attack Iran- - do you really think he'd allow the US to get into a land war in Eurasia? Over Ukraine? Oh please.

Understand who's winding you up here. This is a non-story, a fairy tale. Y'all have GOT to become much more discriminating in your analyses.

This will start getting interesting when they re institute the draft.  TPTB have decided to go for broke and it's balls to the wall it looks like.  Will their minion class follow orders or as in the case of the Connecticut gun confiscation, balk.  This must have them a little nervous.  If their minions start questioning orders, then we've got a new ball game.  People are gradually waking up, but boy do they have a hangover.  The propaganda that has been pumped into people since childhood is hard to get rid of.  Parents should do everything in their power to keep their draft age kids out of the greedy paws of the military/industrial complex along with the rest of the tyrannical control system.  Wake up people!  Puke up the patroitic poison that you have been gorging on all your life.

Again, we have incompetent imbeciles at the helm here...starting with barry the potus all the way down the chain, ahem, recall that he's already purged a lot of key officers. Just sayin.

Not to mention that Russia has been updating the fuck out of its nuclear weapons.  They no longer use 20MT warheads because their guidance systems could only put the warhead within a mile.  They now use warheads in the hundreds of kiloton range because their guidance systems are 200m CEP.  They now have new missiles in service that are MIRVed, so one launch might mean 10 warheads coming down.

One thing that people shoudl understand:  It's cheaper to do the same amount of damage with 2 or 3 550kt warheads than with one 20mt warheads.

I'm sure Hollande is ready to sell the Ukrainians the Rafale plane nobody buys 'cos nobody can afford such hi-priced junk except a stupid monk from Kiev with money lent from Bavarian beer fests after Bayern Munich beats Arsenal at tiddely winks. What he couldn't do in Syria I'm sure he'd love to do indirectly in Crimea singing : 'Da da Sebastopol we are sons of Denfert Rochereau'.

"My plane can run without Russian gas and hit harder than the Light Brigade at Balaclava" he sings proudly.

"In fact we buy our gas from Mali from the Tauregs who rob it from the Nigerians  via their Boko Haram connection carrying siphoning tubes around their necks when they visit the Oil Delta in Nigerian oil fields at night sitting on CIA rubber dinghies they have stolen from nearby Ghana and Liberia.

Globalised pilfering of obsolete military material is the next best thingie to sucking up gas from a Nigerian pipeline and selling it half price to the French legion in Mali. "All for one one for all" is the current motto of all the Mafias selling white powder, from Afghan to  Mexico, selling oil futures in Boko Haram scams on the Internet paid in Bitcoins and Kalachnikovs from Bosnia paid in gold bars from Yemen.

Once Ukraine has the unmatchable Rafale they will win all the gold medals in the Sochi paraolympics for sure!

That should impress Putin more than old brass hats from Pentagon, hell bent at playing at Gen PAtton, on orders from Nato's asinine "camp Armageddon" HQ in Brussels where the sprouts are eaten with mussels and bitter beer.
