"Obama Did Not Attend The Meeting", Or In A Moment Of Crisis The President Stands Resolute

Tyler Durden's picture

... in the sand trap.

Spot the pattern. From March 1, 2014, the day Russia announced it would send armed forces in Crimea:

President Barack Obama's national security team met on Saturday for an update on the situation in Ukraine and to discuss potential policy options, a senior Obama administration official said. The meeting came as Ukraine asked the United States and other key members of the U.N. Security Council to help safeguard its territorial integrity after Russia announced plans to send armed forces into the country's autonomous Crimea region.

Obama did not attend the meeting, but he has been briefed about it by his national security adviser, Susan Rice, and his national security team, an official said.

Fast forward to today, March 15, 2014, the day Russia is said to have "invaded" East Ukraine, and the day before Crimea's critial referendum which may cement the second coming of the Cold War.

President Barack Obama's national security team discussed the Ukraine crisis in a session at the White House on Saturday after Secretary of State John Kerry's return from talks with his Russian counterpart in London.

Obama did not attend the meeting but was being briefed about it and other developments involving Ukraine, said Laura Lucas Magnuson, a spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council.

Because obviously there are more pressing matters at hand like pitching Obamacare to toddlers, and because there is always time for 18 holes before World War III. And let's not forget, nobody does a better job of explaining to Vladimir Vladimirovich the "costs" of showing the world just how much of a laughing stock US foreign policy has become.

Last time the press admitted to something like this the American Ambassador to Lybya was assasinated. There are only a few things that the POTUS is consititutionally expected to do.  One of them is CINC of our national defense forces.  This halfrican American is the laziest POTUS ever and is negligent in the performance of his elected and sworn duties.

I think he's still trying to figure out how to get Latino's to cancel their cell phone service and cable TV in order to pay for his ObamaCare.

"...if you looked at their cable bill, their telephone, their cell phone bill… it may turn out that, it’s just they haven’t prioritized health care.”

You see, they are too stupid to prioritize their lives according to his wishes. They're not making the proper choices.

Ego, mixed with stupidity and lies, makes for a very dangerous combination.

Well, it's still continuing, which, sadly, means that Obama's efforts will be trumped (just as Bush's efforts were trumped by Obama).

The following template can be used accurately in blog comments for as long as the US continues to be a going concern:

"Damn, I swore that after [most recent US president] we couldn't possibly get a worse president. Well, now that we're stuck with [current US president], I'll be the first to admit it - I was totally wrong and just a fool."

I deal with a close family member with serious, serious, mental illness. She is progressively declining (though perhaps this current psych ward stay will be the one that helps).

Cannot tell you how many times I've said "It cannot possibly get worse that this" only to look back six months later and wish for just the merely horrible we had six months ago.

Yes, we can have a worse one and should we have crisis, most likely will get a worse one than today.  We may soon look back at Obama and miss him dearly for being merely horrible.

That's enough to make me want to go into the psych ward myself.

YOur right, this guy took the advice of his advisers to essentially start a war with a nuclear power (main nuclear power) and he's out golfing or whatever but not at the meetings.  This fool is going to go down as the worst president ever, because he doesn't realize one thing.  He either has to attack Russia and defend Ukraine after all this bluster or back down and look weak and Putin win, thats what is left.  His advisors put him into this position, it couldn't have been his military or if so they wanted him to go down with the ship.  Putin knows that the US can't and won't get into a war with Russia, they aren't prepared thats for damn sure, so the only thing left is to make them back down and Putin is going to make it expensive for them.

It just sounds so implausible, but there have been stupider things that have been true. A bear did almost start WWIII when it broke through a fence. We did almost launch missiles because of a false radar echo.

My read is that it's an amateurish attempt to make it seem like Zero thinks it's no big deal and not worth him missing an important asshole waxing appointment.   Instead, it just sends the message to his own people that he's not realy in charge.  Which of course is true, but how fucking stupid to advertise it like this.

Is anyone out there really doubting the fact that he is nothing more than a PITCHMAN or a THESPIAN playing the part of President? The real deciscion makers are trying to figure their way out of this..maybe now they are grasping the idea that Ukraine belongs to Putin or will shortly and the days of U.S. fear mongering tactics based only on rheotric and throwin cash at the rebels on the ground to do your dirty work are over.

This may sound like it is being said in jest but it is not..Putin could ride a fucking harnessed Polar Bear on horseback behind his tanks straight to the Eiffel Tower and there is nothing these hypocritic technocrats could do about it. All they have is deception so I am sure Putin is a few moves ahead in trying to determine what their false flag or Tonkin moment will be to paint him as Hitler Redux for the Snooki consuming public.

Knowing him he already has people working on one in advance. The world as we know it changed two weeks ago. It was like the Ralphie beating the shit out of Scott Farkus moment.

Obama is definitely a front man, but you're being optimistic in a sense.  What if the US et. al. Ukraine gambit is just a way to distract Russia, so that similar trouble can be stirred up elsewhere?  Whoever is pulling the strings doesn't seem to have the long-term interests of the US in mind.

Sat, 03/15/2014 - 19:34 | 4553209 John McCloy

Well I do not think they intended Putin to make a go for Crimea..they wanted their payback for him taking Syria off the table and the Qutar Pipeline gambit and boy did they ever get it..we are not used to being challenged like this...they always love a distraction and any excuse to start up the printers for military spending when they economy can no longer be papered over will be embraced...also I think that is why this Malaysia plane deal is all over the I agree...everything that can be magnified will be a distraction for them to throw at us.

As for Optimistic? I live in Manhattan..Russian ICBM target #1 or #2 (Best case scenario)..I legitmately think these guys are so intoxicated with their own hubris and power and incompetent to boot that they may get most of us killed. I been telling people but they are not listening in the outside world to keep that threat in mind because it is back on the table...No coincidence Manhattan rents have gone parabolic since the threat of a first strike was off the table for the past 2 decades.

See how many hipster tightpansters wanna come live here when that becomes a possibility. Rents would do a Peter Pan in the matter of 2 weeks like they did post 9/11 and 2008 Lehman event...I was was like someone LITERALLY turned the off switch.

This is not aimed at you JM.

Why is there such cognitive dissonance here?

True libertarians do NOT want their govt interfering in the affairs of other nations.  And when the POTUS is not up-front interfering, puffing out his chest, folks pile on calling him all sort of names.

I could give a flying fuck about the guy.  My point is that the level of childishness in all of this reeks to high heaven of Party Pussy-ness.  I hope that none of you children gain any power other than your own.

Given that the US is on the record for supposedly being "responsible" for supporting Europe and the likes of Ukraine it is kind of mandatory to make guestures; and, as the US typically does, it'll walk away from any meaningful commitments (check with the Kurds on that one; OR, even the Ukrainians for that matter).

This is about trying to stand up for a, clearly, failing Europe, to appease TPTB there.  As Europe crashes the US can say: "hey, we tried."  It can only be a guesture, the tank is out of fuel... And for Russia, they need to find paying customers.  These are the realities.

"it's an open invitation and Putin has walked right in."

Is silence an order to do nothing? Or to act?
Very confusing.

Right up there with "no Russian boots on the ground" and "Putin negotiates with Tatarstan."

It would be a bummer if a teleprompter was the thing ordering all of America..and Europe...and maybe even Russia itself...into war. One that makes Vietnam...let alone Afghanistan...look like a picnic.

"Methinks President Putin is planning for the counter-offensive as well."
Who gave the orders to go into Crimea is indeed an interesting if terrifying question.
I would have thought based upon "pre-planning" and "pre-positioning" that the war plan would have remained "a straight shot to Kiev immediately"...end of story, done.
No one has to agree with me of course...nor do i expect anyone too. Where is the diplomacy again?

It's nothing but hot air, bluff by the US.  It's totally powerless to do anything.  Besides, get the fuck out of other people's countries!  If it's on your border and it's an historically regional thing then that's another matter (which is why it matters more to Russia).

There will be war only if the US decides upon it.  And given it's track record over the past several decades, and the fact that it's a failing empire, I'd have to place the probability above even.

Like the POTUS writes his own speeches?  Further, that's the standard to which widely-distributed messages are written: is it 5th-grade?

People in the US have been conditioned, starting in childhood and surrounded by lifelong reinforcement, to believe that the two-party system is real. For those in power, it is the most important myth that they propagate, because it is a foundation pillar upon which other critical myths are built.

The myth is comforting, removes the necessity for deep thought, provides simple explanations for complex problems, and generates convenient scapegoats. Seeing through the myth is difficult and takes genuine effort, and the only reward is a truth that most would rather not see. This is why so few people ever escape the myth, or even want to.

Please, they are all just actors. What's the quote  "politics is just acting for ugly people." Why should Obama be any different? Shit he's already a lame duck so what's the point. Eisenhower was the last President who at least at the end tried to drop a hint as to where the real power in this country came from. Kennedy appears to have paid the price for going against it. Notice how every president since has always gone along with the program. So where would Obama's "motivation" come from? Remember he's just reading a script, and much like the movies Hollywood puts out, there not very original.
