"The Supreme Soviet of Crimea will make an official application for the republic to join the Russian Federation at a meeting on March 17," Sergiy Aksyonov said in a tweet.

The White House says Sunday's referendum on succession is contrary to Ukraine's constitution.
The U.S. says the world won't recognize the results of a vote held under what it says are "threats of violence and intimidation from a Russian military intervention that violates international law."
A written statement from the White House calls Russia's actions in Ukraine "dangerous and destabilizing."
The U.S. is urging other nations to "take concrete steps to impose costs" against Russia.

The RELATIONSHIP between Ukraine and the ZIONISM is complicated.

But Putin has some logic on his side. Sevastopol – the scene of heroic sieges both in the Crimean War and in World War II, is essential for his naval forces. The association with Ukraine is an important part of Russian world power aspirations.
A cold-blooded, calculating operator, of a kind now rare in the world, Putin uses the strong cards he has, but is very careful not to take too many risks. He is managing the crisis astutely, using Russia’s obvious advantages. Europe needs his oil and gas, he needs Europe’s capital and trade. Russia has a leading role in Syria and Iran. The US suddenly looks like a bystander.
I assume that in the end there will be a compromise. Russia will retain a footing in the coming Ukrainian leadership. Both sides will proclaim victory, as they should.
(By the way, for those here who believe in the “One-State Solution”: Another multicultural state seems to be breaking apart.)

I don't think anyone questions that there were concentration camps. My own grandfather saw them and said he wish he had been able to kill far more "krauts" than he had - however, the allies had bombed the shit out of German infrastructure over the last 6/8 months of the war. That would impact hygiene and food supply at the camps. That is, the notion that the emaciated condition of the prisoners was due to deliberate starvation is not at all necessarily true.
While I don't "deny" the orthodox narrative in the sense of maintaining it is false, I do wonder about the purpose behind laws fobidding questioning one single aspect of history in a war in which anti-German propaganda before, during and after the war was absolutely tremendous. As mentioned in a thread weeks ago, the fact the Germans could dig up corpses murdered by the Bolsheviks, invite in the press and Red Cross and still be blamed for that massacre for decades should indicate to you that "history is written by the victors" and nothing should be preserved from honest inquiry.

Being in a small country does not equate to freedom and self-determination. Freedom depends mainly on the quality and structure of the socio-political environment. A hypothetically fascist Scotland would not be able to provide much freedom.

The coup was designed to overthrow the pro-Russian government in Kiev, to destabilize the region and pull Russian forces into direct confrontation with pro-EU mercenaries.
Radicals did indeed sieze the capital, by instead of sparking a civil war, Russians concentrated in Eastern regions and decided to seek autonomy of lands already dominated by Russian speaking population. Crimea is 1st of 4 Eastern regions that plan on following the example if the referendum succeeds.
EU will be stuck negotiating with the neo-nazi coalition, when trying to befriend the remains of Ukraine. Meanwhile the East will go under the umbrella of its former ally.
The west is pissed off that the coup accomplished exactly the opposite of what it was supposed to. Russia is about to get more land, a new Naval port (owned, not rented), while the EU is likely to end up with its own version of Gazaa strip between itself and the former Soviet Union. Good luck moving oil and gas across that plot of land!

Hmm, the SNP want Scotland to break away from the UK, join the EU, and somehow retain the Pound (but only since told by EU they couldn't have the Euro - like anyone sane would want it), oh, and any nice bits of mineral or military assset that Wee 'Ecks eye alights on. In short, the SNP is in la-la land, and independence would either be fleeting as they got swallowed by the EU or alternatively they'd soon be poor as church mice as industry and commerce shifted south (to somewhere with a central bank).
But then the SNP was always about aggrandising and enriching Salmond, not about the good of Scotland or anyone in the UK.
Catalunya I'm less clear on, but it would at least appear to have an industrial base.

What I've never understood, however, is how leaving the UK and joining the EU stacks up with the idea of self-determination.
