Putin Responds To US, European Sanctions: Signs Order Recognizing Crimea As Sovereign State

Tyler Durden's picture

So much for de-escalating. From the Kremlin:

Vladimir Putin signed a decree "On the recognition of the Republic of Crimea." Full text of the Decree:

1. Given the will of the people of the Crimea on the referendum held on March 16, 2014, to recognize the Republic of Crimea, in which the city of Sevastopol has a special status, as a sovereign and independent state.

2. This Decree shall enter into force on the date of its signing.

Surely this will precede Putin's own executive order recognizing Crimea as the latest member of the Russian Federation. And as for those "crippling" sanctions, via the FT, here is the locals reall think and why the Russian stock market is soaring as we reported earlier.

One also wonders: how long until Russia freezes all assets of McDonalds restaurants operating in Russia.

I think you have forgotten Obama's ego.  You know how he has manipulated the press and many foreign dignitaries.  If you ask him any real question he smirks and chastizes you for asking any critical questions.  When he does travel abroad on diplomacy next - if we can even call it that - the United States next he will realize that the rest of the world is laughin at the dollar, at fixed USTs, and the equity of corporations that rely on a fat middle class.

The fat middle class is gone.  It left when Nixon took the dollar off the gold standard.  The fat middle class in the empire of the United States of America has been treading water for over 40 years.  They are tired and tapped out and can't run the treadmill of economic prosperity any longer.  Obama will be the POTUS that represents that and it will unnerve him and ignite his temper.

Obama does not like to be told he isn't going to have his way.  He is a power hungry sociopath whose ego blows out of proportion when questioned.  Haven't you heard how the news media does not get to ask certain questions?  Havenn't you seen Obama chastize reporters?  He treats dignitaries the same, mind you.

And Obama compares Putin to, "The kid in the back of the class slouching."

"What is your relationship with Putin?" Question:

He is a puppet in the form of diplomacy and his handlers will run him out and tell him he must stand strong against Russia.  And Obama's rhetoric will be one of a need to continue to sanction Russia, even while the economy rolls off a cliff.

Have you forgotten that the economy is in freefall?  And these sanctions will only make gas prices - the lifeblood of the economy - increase, putting more pressure on the US backed petro-dollar.  It's over man.  Game over.

And just who the Devil is a "real conservative or a libertarian" in the US?  They're all, and I mean every single one, a Liberal (with a large "L").  I get so frustrated when I see people call Obama "Socialist," or "Communist," because apparently those words only mean "Somebody I Don't Like."  He's just a garden-variety Liberal, just like McCain, Bush I and II, Clinton (either one), Kerry, and take your pick of the GOP contenders (Christie, Cruz, Rubio, Rand Paul, etc.).  All the same, varying only in which diversionary "social issue" they champion, to pander to which group of rubes' biases.  If anything, they're all Fascists, suborned to the merger of State and Corporate power.  People say Obama "nationalized" General Motors and the Banks?  Bullshit.  The opposite.  He privatized the US Treasury for the benefits of the operators and bondholders of those entities.  180 degrees removed from socialism or nationalization.

Yes, Obama is worse than Bush.  Bush at least was constrained by the people who believed the red/blue puppet show.  Obama isn't. Hillary, even more so.

The US will spend a billion dollars buying a few million Facebook likes for Barry and the land of the free - that will show Putin:

The State Department spent over $630,000 to increase Facebook “likes” for four of its pages on the social-networking site, according to an inspector general’s report.

The efforts, which involved advertising initiatives between 2011 and March 2013, increased the fan numbers for each page from about 100,000 to more than 2 million, the report said.

You have to read this fascinating article to see how Putin and Russia thinks years ahead of time. Paying off all the debt when the going was good, who would have thunk? Less reliance on IMF and World!

Despite being a one man show, majority of Russians support him and according to the video in the previous post, Americans love him too! Over 71% of Russians like him.

In foreign policy, Mr. Putin no longer sees the West as a model worth emulating. In his view the United States is politically gridlocked, mired in debt and overextended in foreign entanglements. The situation in Europe is no better.  Russia, Putin has concluded, needs to go it alone—now more than ever. Russia must emphasize its own model.  This further complicates efforts to deal with Russia on the diplomatic front in Ukraine, all the more so because, since the 2000s, President Putin has personally taken charge of Russian foreign policy.  Vladimir Putin has repeatedly asserted, and seems to believe, that he is the only person capable of effectively countering the threats to Russia. This reinforces Putin’s conviction that he has to maintain his grip on power to counter all the threats Russia faces.

The current crisis in Ukraine was triggered by Putin’s attempts to bolster the Russian economy in response to a significant slow-down in GDP growth. When he first came into power, Putin was fixated on cementing Russia’s status and its global standing on the basis of GDP growth and superior economic performance. In the 2000s, largely thanks to high and rising oil prices, Putin not only paid off the Russian state’s debts, but he also presided over a period of economic growth that put Russia on track to become the world’s fifth-largest economy. GDP growth replaced military might as Russia’s most important indicator of success. Russia’s growth boosted jobs and incomes and contributed to a decade of domestic stability.

Coming up next..referendum in Donetsk.

He may shut of the gas pipelines by Friday suppose we will see. Let's see how long it takes this new Coup government to anger the folks in Kiev and Western Ukraine while they witness the total mess and theft that is the EU/US imperialists. They will be running to the ballot box by end of year to rejoin with Russia...Putin was never going to let that buffer from NATO go nor should he.

Without question they are going to dump all EU/US bonds now and make a statement of cessation of any future purchases...AND LETS REMEMMBER..He has China right along side him. These guys better tread carefully...but I think it is too late for that.

JM, clearly you and your friends either never had a real business of your own, or don't understand "Debt-as-Money":

You do NOT shut off the gas!  Rather, you use it as Leverage... for more Debt, or "better" Debt.

E.g., "Gas for Gold", since the ECB and Fed bitches can conjure up fiat-currency at will.  Gold payments short-circuit their entire Ponzi.  Think Strategic (like a general), not Tactical (like a soldier).

ps. Note that did not junk you, but provided a civil and well-reasoned alternate-argument.  :-)

I own my own business and live in Manhattan and leverage is all but I think they do not believe he will shut the gas off... Why would they?
His leverage comes when he shuts off since the rain drop walkers are to accustomed to living in rhetoric land..then they will get it.

Think Strategic (like a general)

You shut off the gas for non payment. Why they have reservoirs at the pumping stations to still bleed out first before the gas really runs out. Force the interim government to fuck the EU or fuck the Ukrainian people depending who they divert those reservoirs to. Put them between a rock and a hard place. You can turn the gas back on later after the chaos ensues. They don't ultimately lose revenue since the whole system can be diverted to other pipeline infrastructure outside the Ukraine. I'm sure China or the countries like Finland could easily pick up the slack.

The gas game gets real for the EU only if they cut off the Nordstream feeder. The slavs don't matter as long as Western Europe especially Germany gets it's alloted share without disruption which happens as long as the Nordstream line is running.

It also helps when the country you acquire has people with the same bushy eyebrows.

The US had "the balls and power" in Vietnam, but the eyebrows didn't line up, so it didn't matter.

Ukraine has reacted by transfering troops to the east, several military trains and convoys were forced back by angry residents. Several demonstration by Euro Midan Right Groups had the almighty shit kicked out of them in major East Ukrainian cities.

The central banker the mob turned into Prime Minister has vowed to destory the people responsible for Crimea Freedom Movement. He said they have the names and will be coming to get them. This will be fun to watch a central banker trys and take on the Naval Forces of Sevastopol on the narrow entrances to Crimea. Perhaps 1 well place Iskander Surface to Surface missile with cluster bomb warhead has this central bankers name on it.

Lets get real. A major right wing mob, paid by the EU and USA a steady paycheck to lead revolution in Kiev, and the mod installs a Central Banker and IMF lover as Prime Minister. Do you want to know how stupid a Ukrainian is, just note the Western Central Bank IMF whore they put into power.

The focus now shift to the East, they too seek entry into the Russian federation, for a long list of good reasons. Number 1 to escape EU central banker's austerity. Ukraine has vowed to subjegate the people of the east by forces of arms. If they try, then WWIII becomes real potential.

For all you Obama bashers, Do you really think Obama runs the government? No, you can't seriously believe HE is in power. That fucking puppet dances on teh strings of the elite deep state rulers. His mouth opens and the elites words come out. Obama is a central bankers whore, and a total black slave to the military industrial complex. To call him an independent agent is laughable in the extreme. Bush, he was the same, he never made a real decission in 8 years, another puppet. The elites dupe you with this fake Demo versus Republican fake democray. It is one party rule. You know that, you that in your hearts.

The "IMF/central bank whore" you mentioned, the so called "PM" of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk has recently broadcast to his people that he is going to hunt down the separatists and burn them. "Find the ring leaders and burn the ground beneath their feet". This guy is a genuine psychopath, a real clinical case  - the same nutjob was seen shaking hands with the leaders in the EU and the US last week.

In the meantime,  various "ministers" of the Kiev regime are threatening a nuclear strike against Russia (when they have it in 3-6 months). These are the people our governments are supporting?  If anyone in government was remotely sane, we should be bombing Kiev right now instead of punishing a bloodless democratic transition of statehood in the Crimea.

If "Yats" weren't a fucking psychopath, the Nuland-Kissinger-Brzezinski cabal wouldn't have any use for him.  Why do we love us them Al-Quaedas so much?  Because they're horrible crazy people who love to kill and won't ever, ever negotiate with anybody in good faith.  When your goal is to burn the world so you can take what's left, there's no room in your world-view for reasonable people.

Funny how France still hasn't canceled their military deal with Russia...

"Sanctions against Russia are double-edged. France expects to earn one billion dollars for two Mistral-class helicopter carriers. Would it sacrifice this on behalf of an unreliable government in Kyiv?" the head of Russian parliamentary foreign affairs committee, Alexey Pushkov wrote on Twitter.

If the deal fell through, it would hurt French shipbuilders and arms manufacturers, as well as their European suppliers. At the same time, Russia would save a lot of money.

Has this been confirmed? I took a quick look a Google News and I did not see it yet. If so it is major. This is no longer simply headline fodder for the business-as-usual US of A.

I did note in passing, however, that Satoshi Nakamoto denies ever having anything to do with Bitcoin and that Mick Jagger's girlfriend is dead. (When are we going to get the headline saying that Mick Jagger is dead?)

But back to the point. If Putin has recognized Crimea it can only mean that he thinks he can win the whole game, and Putin is not known for rash miscalculations. This move will eventually shatter the EU. Without continuous blood transfusions in the form of Russian resources, the moribund national economies of Eastern Europe will be forced either to side with Moscow or to beggar their Western neighbors. In both cases the EU will come under unbearable strain; and realistically speaking, the Western neighbors can't afford to be beggared, so Moscow is looking pretty attractive right about now.

It would be a good idea to remember where you were when you heard this news. I"ll safely wager that St. Patrick's Day, 2014 will be looked back on as the last day of the American Century.
