China "Ready To Cooperate" With Crimea

Tyler Durden's picture

China, having abstained from voting against Russia in the UN, has been relatively quiet during this crisis... until now... As ITAR-TASS reports, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce Shen Danyang said that while "the situation in Ukraine remains tense," and they are watching developments, "we are ready for cooperation with Crimea after the situation there gets back to normal.” This appears to implicitly recognize Crimea as its own region - as opposed to part of Ukraine - even after this morning's "very strict anti-secessio One China policy" comments.

Via ITAR-TASS,

China will develop cooperation with Crimea after the situation in the republic stabilizes, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce Shen Danyang told a news conference on Tuesday.

Commenting on the results of Crimea’s referendum and the future of China’s investment projects, the spokesman said: “The situation in Ukraine remains tense. We are closely following the latest developments.”

“Trade cooperation between China and Ukraine continues to develop as usual,” he said. “However, devaluation of Ukraine’s currency will have a certain impact on Ukrainian-Chinese trade relations.”

Shen stressed that the current situation was “temporary”.

“China will continue developing mutually-beneficial cooperation,” he said. “We hope that the situation in Ukraine will stabilize very soon. As for Crimea, we are ready for cooperation after the situation there gets back to normal.”

Is China stirring? By specifiying trade deals with Ukraine and Crimea separately?

This follows earlier comments that appeared to be anti-Russia to some extent:

"China always respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states. The Crimean crisis should be resolved politically under the frameworks of law and order. We call on all sides to remain calm and exercise restraint to avoid further escalation of the tension," said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei.

"China has a very strict anti-secession One-China policy."

China sees an opportunity. They already have an agreement with Rosneft of Russia to explore energy reserves in Siberia. Now they see a chance to secure a position with Russia in the new independent Crimean energy sector.

On Tuesday, the Crimean parliament has confiscated the Ukrainian companies Ukrtransgaz, Chernomorneftegaz and the Feodosia petroleum products terminal. It also claimed that the continental shelf now belongs to Crimea.

Free Tibet indeed.   Its all fun and games to see the US humiliated, but what if Turkestan or Tibet suddenly decide they would like a little self determination with a side order of referendum?   And isn't it a bad precident to infer that Taiwan might get to vote on whether it wants to be part of China or not?  And what about Chechnya?

Putin has openned pandora's box.  All sorts of trouble may come flying out.

You mean the same Ron Paul that told us the truth about who did 9/11?

Look I and pretty much everyone that reads ZH has tremendous respect and admiration for Congressman Paul on many things he did while in office to educate a feeble American public on the "facts" as well as in setting the right agenda to change the moneyed interests in "Washington".  On these he deserves praise.  But just imagine what would have happened if he had had the courage as a Republican candidate running a second time for the office of President of the United States telling the American people the "truth" about who took us down on September 11, 2001?

Having said that "none" of them stepped forward to change this Country and the World about the legacy of that day that unfortunately is bringing us now to the edge of war with an adversary that is our equal on many levels.

Can't go back and change what should have been debated after the "Commission Report" and now all of them can reflect all they want on what might have been had they done the right thing for themselves, the rest of the Country and the World!

You mean like these facts?

By the way PD Architects and Engineers went to all members of Congress with this "information" and not one of them had the spine with the exception of Senator Wellstone of Minnesota who "knocked on several doors" to find out what actually happened.

We certainly know what happened to him and that it served as a warning to everyone else in Congress who "initially" wanted the same answers as did he.

I think it's safe to say right now with where we're headed that there are worse things than death or should I say your choices in the way you want to be remembered in this life mark you!

As an American living in Ukraine (Odessa and Simferopol) with NO extensive expertise in economics, I have 3 questions.

1.)  I have read (but never personally confirmed as fact) that the BRICS countries (including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa??) comprise approximately one-half of the world's population. When one adds Syria and Iran to that group, they have a huge amount of energy, minerals, precious metals and other natural resources - along with the manpower. Russia and China alone has vast regions yet unexplored for resources just waiting to be tapped.

My QUESTION: Why have not the BRICS established their own joint-currency based on gold, oil, natural gas and other commodities? Do they fear igniting a thermonuclear war with the West?

Certainly other nations would still need to trade with the BRICS. And the BRICS could slowly sell off their dollar-based securities to those that wanted them; and therebyy probably kill off the West's central banks and the IMF, forcing the West to establish a new commodity-based currency with REAL value.

2.) Does ANYONE honestly know what China's Commerce Minister Shen Danyang REALLY meant? His statement sounded like a lot of double-talk to me.

3.) If a tree falls on a man alone in the woods, does HE make a sound?   ;-)   ;-)

A Poem by Jack4952 (aka, John-Henry Hill)

As John Kerry shits in his pants,

The people of Crimea celebrate with dance.

Barry Obama, puppet of the Banksters,

Recites from the teleprompter, "The Russians are gangsters!"

Neo-cons and Nazis now cry in their champagne,

“Our only goal was to recreate Charlemagne.”
