Putin Says Russia Will Retaliate To Sanctions
One of the things that Putin failed to mention in his nearly hour-long annexation speech, was the topic of retaliation to Western sanctions, leading many to assume he wouldn't even bother. Moments ago Reuters provided some clarity on this issue:
President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Western attempts to frighten Russia with sanctions over its takeover of Ukraine's Crimea region would be viewed as an act of aggression, and that Moscow would retaliate.
We expect details wil be forthcoming, and that the west, whose every bluff has been called, and every gambit has failed, will need another teleprompted conference by the leader of the "Free world" Obama, explaining - once again - just what the costs, red lines, and escalating sanctions against Russia will be.
Obama may want to wait until a little later though: a mass rally planned in two hours from now on Moscow's Red Square to celebrate the Crimea annexation and the first step in restoring the USSR.

Obama should just go golf, and stfu.
8:16AM EST suggests he's already on the 4th hole....
Your move, President Shankopatomus.
That would be chess.....not checkers Amigo.
Yes, and we have a pawn leading us.
let me be clear
and perhaps i wasnt
there is indeed a red line not to be crossed
but to be fair,
it was drawn on this teleprompter
which as you can all see, is clear
well, when it was sitting in front of the map.....
and well, i got the wrong impression of the red lines' location
and so its possible
mr putin also did not know where the red line was
so. to conclude....
Street Rules (Always the best, hard but fair)
What I've learned on the street is that before you want to make any threats to somebody you'll be damn sure you are willing to act on that.
Otherwise your bluff will be called on very soon and you'll be known like the fool bluffer of the street and nobody will take you seriously anymore.
Kerry never has been on the street, Putin has.
I'd love to see Ivanov beat the living sh*t out of Kerry!

Don't worry the "Rainbow coalition Army" is just doing some last minutes checks, then they can charge the Russian front.
obama should just go.
welcome home, crimea
for the inquisitive ones, cccp is ussr in cyrillic.
Too bad CRIMEA does not have an extra A in its name. It would have spelt AMERICA and might have given Obama real international law grounds to move in.
Oh dear. ;-)

Ho hum
Opting out of the payment system is a potential major game changer here. At the moment, one can travel all over the world and pay with most any major credit card. If the world splits wrt payments, things will become interesting rather quickly.
Putin's real reaction to US/EU objections

Putin allegedly said negotiating with the fudge packer in chief is like playing chess w a pigeon. It knocks all the pieces on the board over, craps on the board then struts around like it won.
Reuters: President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Western attempts to frighten Russia with sanctions over its takeover of Ukraine's Crimea region would be viewed as an act of aggression, and that Moscow would retaliate.
Interfax 15:50 - Putin: We consider attempts to intimidate Russia with sanctions and escalation of domestic issues as aggressive and will react accordingly
At the end of the day, we already know Putin will never be intimidated by pedophile and homosexual politicians.
Obama: "I don't get no respect!"
Advisors: "Respect has to be earned, Mr POSident."
Obama: "What? I thought respect was an entitlement, like everything else in my life."
R-S-P-E-C-T!!!
Yeah, his Degree in Weed really paying off now...makes me wonder if the teleprompter just shows little pictures now instead of words.
like my Nobel Peace prize that I got in advance long before any real time achievements to squander during my first term as the POSUS.
But what have the West sanctions been, exactly, in the first place? Some politians told stories about sanctions. What is the proof of sanction going on?
Can you really retaliate to something that's not really there?
Bonus question for discussion:
How do you know that the Fed has really "tapered"? And how do you really, really know that there HAS been QE in the first place?
declarations with strong language have been issued. Isn't that sufficient for you ?
You make a good point.
For Example: I have no clue what is happening around the corner from my house, but I am confident that I know what's going on in the rest of the world.
How does one make sense of a world where conceit and duplicity have no bounds?
Go long RED PAINT, no need to hedge either.
Russia playing a far different game to US/Israel/EU.
Vlad, I raise you one Goldman to your Crimea....give it time, the squid will collapse you.
There's a battle I'd like to see go nuclear.
The Russians should seize assets of western NGOs and deport their management teams.
Tell me again how the astronauts get to the space station..
I hope the sanctions retaliation hurts America deeply. Serves us right for electing and re-electing a loser.
Obama may want to wait until a little later though: a mass rally planned in two hours from now on Moscow's Red Square to celebrate the Crimea annexation and the first step in restoring the USSR.
Restoration of the USSR?
Nothing could be further from the truth!
It's an independent and self-governing Nation that remembers it's past and traditions proudly unlike the West and will use that history of oppression it endured through outside intervention for 70 years just as it has had to endure it now for the last 25 years to become it's great self once again!
Agree, the USSR is not being restored.
The Russian state is returning to its natural borders.
Once again, an Eastern European state with artificial boundaries is being adjusted by the Big Boys. Ukraine was just about a failed state anyway; might as well give it a push over the edge, the better to sop up whatever goodies are there to be sopped up. Putin takes the parts Russia has decided they can't survive without. The Banksters get the parts where they can extract the most debt servitude and they've got their boy in place to facilitate the extraction. Once all that can be extracted is extracted, they'll just leave the husk for Russia, or anybody else who wants to take on that responsibility.
As for the "sanctions," if any well-connected Russian had any money in any Western bank post-Cyprus, they're so stupid they deserve to lose it all. And Putin won't severely antagonize any Western corporate interests operating in Russia unless and until he's got an alternative finance system in place. He doesn't yet, seemingly. Maybe he never will.
Most of this bluster is just bluster, to cover up the impending looting and Iraqification of Ukraine.
