Yesterday, Russian media leaked a phone discussion on the Ukrainian protests between EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet. Contacted by the French-based euronews TV channel, Estonia’s foreign ministry confirmed the authenticity of the recorded telephone call.
The call shows that top EU officials who publicly praise the new regime as an exemplar of democracy privately view it as criminal. It also suggests that Western-backed operatives carried out deadly provocations, killing protesters and blaming their deaths on Yanukovych in order to push for regime-change.

On a sidenote, is it common for Russian soldiers to carry US-made weapons? There is a big photo floating around that supposedly shows a few Ukrainian soldiers being detained. Yet, the Russian who is detaining them is carrying an M-110 sniper rifle (or something very similar) which is chambered in 7.62x51 (not a standard Russian cartridge). I just found that to be strange and a bit off.

I would say definitely not an SVD ... typical SVD mag isn't polymer with a magpul handle on the bottom and it looks like the magazine doesn't have the curvature you would see with a 7.62x54R. As far as being an M110, I tend to agree, but it's the closest I could come to specific identification. I think it is something similar though, based on the round (7.62x51 ... estimated from the magazine appearance and design ... and you wouldn't put a scope like that on a 5.56 rifle).
But the point really is why Russian forces would be using ANY rifle chambered in a standard NATO round. That doesn't make any sense to me at all. I'm about 99% sure that the rifle in the picture is a .308/7.62x51 which is a standard NATO round. In the Russian military, I would expect to see a Dragunov instead (or something similar chambered in 7.62x54R). It's just a weird picture. Doesn't seem right.
EDIT - On closer examination, I can't determine for sure from the picture whether that is a 5.56x45 or a 7.62x51 ... it has to be one of the two. However, that is definitely a 20-round magpul magazine (whether 5.56 or 7.62) with a handle on the bottom. And thus, the question remains ... why are Russian forces using a NATO round in a Stoner rifle?
Interesting. Looks like a typical Wyoming prairie dog rig except the sporter weight barrel looks a little light. That scope would be worse than useless at close range. I don't see a red dot or BU sights. I couldn't tell a 5.56 from a 7.62 in the photo, but the mag looks short for 7.62x51. I have that grip on my M&P. The suppressor certainly appears to be well suited for sniping. Looks like what a twenty something puppy from the Rockies would throw together for a self-defense/varmint rig. Pull the scope and go with Red dot for blasting targets, clay pigeons, or beer cans.
