Serfs Up – Average Healthcare Premiums Have Soared 39%-56% Post Obamacare

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mike Krieger of Liberty Blitzkrieg blog,

It’s been a couple months since I last updated readers on the epic disaster that is Obamacare. In case you need a refresher, here is the last article I published on the law: Computer Security Expert Claims he Hacked the ObamaCare Website in 4 Minutes.

Moving along, we now have some details on the average premium increase for non-Obamacare health plans following the implementation of the law, and the results are not pretty. According to a cost report from eHealthInsurance, premiums have increased by between 39%-56%.

More from The Washington Examiner:

Americans buying health insurance outside the new Obamacare exchanges are being forced to swallow premiums up to 56 percent higher than before the health law took effect because insurers have jumped the cost to cover all the added features of the new Affordable Care Act.

According to a cost report from eHealthInsurance, a nationwide online private insurance exchange, families are paying an average of $663 a month and singles $274 a month, far more than before Obamacare kicked in. What’s more, to save money, most buyers are choosing the lowest level of coverage, the so-called “bronze” plans.

In California, for example, some families are paying a high of $2,604 a month and in New York, $1,845.

His firm’s price index also gives an average age for singles buying plans, and the results are worrying for insurers and the Obama administration. That’s because the average age is 36, older than the administration had hoped for.

The demographic issue is a huge ticking time bomb, something I previously highlighted in my piece: Humana Warns of “‘Adverse ObamaCare Enrollment Mix.”

Moving along, while we are well aware of the financial disaster Obamacare represents for those not participating, what about those who are in (or at least think they are in) the program?

Let’s look at the story of one Las Vegas man who paid his Obamacare premiums since November yet remains uncovered and now has a $407,000 hospital bill nobody is covering.

From the Review Journal:

The hospital bills are hitting Larry Basich’s mailbox.

That would be OK if Basich had health insurance. But he doesn’t.

Thing is, he should be covered. Basich, 62, bought a plan through the state’s Nevada Health Link insurance exchange in the fall. He’s been paying monthly premiums since November.

Yet the Las Vegan is stranded in a no-man’s-land where no carrier claims him, and his tab is mounting: Basich owes $407,000 for care received in January and February, when his policy was supposed to be in effect. Instead, he’s covered only for March and beyond.

Basich has begged for weeks for help from the exchange and its contractor, Xerox. But Basich’s insurance broker said Xerox seems more interested in lawyering up and covering its hide than in working out Basich’s problems. Nor is Basich the only client facing plan-selection errors through the exchange, she added.

Weeks ticked by, but Basich received nothing to confirm he had insurance. Nevada Health Link kept telling him he was enrolled, but UnitedHealthcare said he wasn’t in their system.

Basich’s predicament went critical on Dec. 31, when he had a heart attack. His treatment, which included a triple bypass on Jan. 3, resulted in $407,000 in medical bills in January and February that no insurer is covering.

Though Basich’s problem is exceptional for its dollar value, his situation is not unusual, Burch said. She estimates that of nearly 200 Branch Benefits Consultants client sign ups via Nevada Health Link, only 5 percent have gone through problem-free. More than 20 customers have the same plan-selection issue as Basich. One gave up trying to fix it and is sticking with the plan the exchange put her in.

Serfs up suckers!

They can't.CDS on rental backed securities are probably a sure thing over the next 18 months.

If there are counterparties left to pay you of course.

So is this partitially a result of private equity funds coming into the rental market and buying all these apartment complexs? and then jacking up prices to get their desired ROI?

Well I sit here and write my comment while in the background I listen to the ongoing wait of Covered California on speaker phone, now into its 40th minute.. I was one of those Anthem BC policys that was not acceptable under ObamaCare. So it takes me 2 weeks to get all the info into Covered California and guess what? I get a policy from Anthem BC that has a higher deductible and costs more money? WTF? As a self employed business owner they congratulated me saying I qualified for assistance? After reviewing the policy I saw my kids were not included in the coverage? So what I'm seeing thus far is a higher premium, my kids not covered and a much higher deductible? WTF? This is a total fustercluck! Then I find out most doctors and clinics won't take my Government required insurance anyway? This is absolute bullshit!

Tahoebumsmith, most people seem to think Obamacare is healthcare, it's not.

It's a tax, ok?

You know Judge Roberts voted it was a tax.  So everyone needs to stop whining about ACA / Obamacare because it's not a "product" or a service, it's a tax.

Technically, Obammy Care is an entitlement that falls within the power of taxation. You must have applied for and received a social security number in order to be entitled for what the courts would classify as extra ordinary protections paid for with money from the public treasury. THAT is a "privilege" created by statute and Congress can TAX the privileges it creates. Fucking miserable cunts just created another ENTITLEMENT aka PRIVILEGE under the umbrella of the Social Security Act

No number? no SS, medicare medicaid, food stamps, or Obammy Care. And just HOW  THE FUCK do you file taxes or petition the US TAX COURT without an SS #?? YOU CANT. There exists NO alternate identifier. ALL Excises are therefore by default, imposed on those within the "system".

Where is the law that requires a person to aquire an SS # as a condition precedent to work? IT DOES NOT EXIST and the SS administration has admitted as such.

Why is there no law that mandates the number? Because it requires the APPLICANT to WAIVE Constitutional/Judicial protections of CONTRACT and PROPERTY in exchange for those EXTRAORDINARY PROTECTIONS

Perhaps you would believe the courts:

Florenzano v. Olson, 387 N.W.2d 168 (Minn. 1986), and M.H. v. Caritas Family Servs., 488 N.W.2d 282 (Minn. 1992), are probably the two most often cited cases in Minnesota on the definition of both common law fraud and negligent misrepresentation.  In both cases, only the negligent misrepresentation claim survived.

In Florenzano, an insurance agent hired by Mrs. Florenzano advised her that she would be a “fool” not take the “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity to withdraw from the social security program because she would still receive coverage under her husband’s social security benefits.  Mrs. Florenzano relied on this advice and withdrew from the social security system.  She subsequently became totally disabled due to multiple sclerosis.  However, because she had followed the insurance agent’s advice and withdrawn from the program, neither she nor her two children were eligible for social security disability or dependent benefits.  Had she continued to participate in the social security system, she and her children would have been eligible for those benefits.

Didn't we always know?

ObamaCare The Actuarial Reality – Insurance Premiums Will Necessarily Skyrocket – Officials say “double and triple” end of this year.. Posted on by Within the insurance industry:  Q1 (Jan-March) cost/expense/enrollment information is collected.  Q2 (April-June) calculations are made to costs (projections) for the following year.  In Q3 (July-Sept) those projections become “premium rates” and are presented to State Insurance regulators for review and notification.   In Q4 (Oct-Dec) the customer (YOU) are notified of the new rate. What you are seeing now in Q1-2014 are the cost projections, the raw data, being collected and recording an astonishing reality.  And Insurance executives warning that based on current data collection - Q2?s calculations will necessarily skyrocket. Trying to stop the publicity of this is why Obama DID THIS.  He’s trying to buy time by saying the feds will ramp up payments to insurance carriers - so please don’t tell people their rates are going up.

WASHINGTON DC - Health industry officials say ObamaCare-related premiums will double in some parts of the country, countering claims recently made by the administration.

The expected rate hikes will be announced in the coming months amid an intense election year, when control of the Senate is up for grabs. The sticker shock would likely bolster the GOP’s prospects in November and hamper ObamaCare insurance enrollment efforts in 2015.

The industry complaints come less than a week after Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius sought to downplay concerns about rising premiums in the healthcare sector. She told lawmakers rates would increase in 2015 but grow more slowly than in the past. Continue reading ?

Cannon Fodder : Find a rental, a bedroom and refrigerator privileges, in someone's home (elder ladies who cook). Used to do that and had great luck.  Not great for having company, but not much responsibility, sometimes you get paid for doing little jobs, often get meals, sometimes get your laundry done... can work out well for both parties.

Obama is doing his part to counteract the "scourge" of deflation. Most people like it when prices go DOWN, but distinguished economists like Paul Krugman insist that this is BAD, BAD, BAD for the economy.

But somehow, I doubt that the increased insurance premiums will be included in the Consumer Price Index.

I agree with you 100% one eyed. i don't understand the whole deflation argument. Doesn't it make sense when prices get low enough people start buying stuff? Every time I go on eBay or Amazon to buy stuff I am looking for the lowest price. Nobody goes, "Hey, the economy is shitty so I am gonna pay more for stuff in hopes that companies pay more to their employees." As prices get higher, I buy less. I cut cable, take public transit to work, eat out less, and eat very little meat (have you seen beef prices?). The invisible hand that is suppose to determine prices in the market is takeover by the visible gun of the government.

My small business (25 employees) has been advised that the base premium will go up a minimum of 38% at the end of this year.  We have always provided this benefit to the employees with no contribution from them.  Guess what's going to change?

WHY is everybody so goddamned unwell now? As a child no one in our family, and our known cirlce of friends, ever went to the doctor, didn't even have a family doctor, nobody took presecription drugs or went to the hospital. We had no "health insurance".I'm talking about the good old days as I know them; 1946-1970. I did not have any medical insurance until I was almost 50 years old. No wonder the young people don't want to sign up.

And it's not really "insurance", it's a prepaid medical plan. Or, as my daughter calls it: "a medical discount card".

This is not going to work. How soon until we morph into single payer?

I don't understand health insurance.  Wouldn't it make more sense for insurers to some how try to make their enrollees healthier some how instead of having them get sick so that the collective of all those who chipped in pay for it.  I understand some unforeseen circumstances such as accidents and genetic conditions; however, how about those who have unhealthy habits like those who are obese, smoke or drink excessively.  This is the same argument against Medicare or any socialized healthcare.  Like any safety net, it removes moral hazards.
