Ukraine To Seek Compensation From Russia For Seized Assets, Introduces Visas For Russians

Tyler Durden's picture

Now that the non-fighting and the Crimean annexation is over, all that's left are cheap words and hollow threats.

First, Ukraine has effectively given up on claims to Crimea...

  • UKRAINE TO REMOVE MILITARY FROM CRIMEA TO MAINLAND: PARUBIY
  • UKRAINE TO SEEK DEMILITARIZED ZONE STATUS FOR CRIMEA: PARUBIY

... but hopes to make Russia's life more difficult:

  • UKRAINE PLANS TO INTRODUCE VISA REGIME WITH RUSSIA: PARUBIY

And just in case Russia decides to steamroll unobstructed into other areas of East Ukraine, Kiev is pretending it is taking measures:

  • UKRAINE TO FORTIFY MILITARY ON EASTERN BORDER: PARUBIY
  • UKRAINE TO STRENGTHEN SECURITY AT NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS

Finally, Ukraine somehow still thinks it has any leverage:

  • UKRAINE TO SEEK COMPENSATION FOR RUSSIA SEIZING ASSETS

And this stinger for Russia which will surely lose much sleep now:

  • UKRAINE PLANS TO LEAVE CIS, PARUBIY SAYS

As for the US, it is just comical now:

  • RUSSIA CREATING `DANGEROUS SITUATION,' CARNEY SAYS
  • U.S. PREPARED TO IMPOSE FURTHER COSTS ON RUSSIA, CARNEY SAYS

Costs - drink. And speaking of "dangerous situations", perhaps the biggest danger here is that the US still thinks it is the sole superpower in a unipolar world. It clearly no longer is.

Russia will ask Ukraine to pay $20 billion debt dating back to the Soviet Union era, if Kiev tries to revise the agreement that regulated the partition of property upon the dissolution of the USSR, Itar-Tass quoted Russia’s Foreign Ministry as saying.

if reports were correct he actually said to actively short Russian equities...which in my view is total b.s. if true.

I does such activity not do anything but further inflame the situation? The goal is to make money off the collapsing Russian economy?

So far "Adult Swim" isn't going to well here.

Good read but I think Orlov has it competely wrong with the parallels between the Soviet Union's collapse and the U.S. in 2014 terms.

First off the U.S.S.R. would never have threatened it's borders, first with Yugoslavia, then Georgia and with Chechnya the way the U.S. has for nearly two decades.  Second and the icing on the cake is going after Russia's most important naval bases and maritime industries.  It would be like Russia in 1990 taking control of Richmond through a coup and attempting the sabotage and takeover of Newport News and Oceana Virginia!

We have much to learn from the ex-Soviet Russian peaceful transition that ensued against all those "obstacles" that could have taken the U.S.'s extreme path but didn't!

I think Putin's speech after the Crimea vote is both his and the Country's finest hour.  The U.S .and NATO motivations were the opposite of it's intentions and it ended up cementing Ukraine and Russia even closer.

Shit will really begin to hit the fan when the Western part of the region of Ukraine asks Russia for inclusion alongside Crimea.   And it will happen.

Then we will see what the U.S. is willing to risk once that takes place!

Phuk u's picture

Western Ukraine will never ask Russia for anything. Western Ukraine is Old Europe, Soviet inclusion

will never happen. Funny how Orlov knows that Ukrainians in Crimea voted to be part of Russia, no

doubt the Tatars voted to be part of russia too. Putins speech was a Schizophrenic man justifying his

actions whilst his audience were wondering why the king had no clothes on, there will be a little boy

shouting soon.

Compare that unvarnished truth interview with Dmitry Orlov to the non-stop garbage from our Western Daily Slime MSM.

LMAO it seems the EU just can't wait to take on the massive debt that the Ukraine represents. I think it has one of the loswet credit ratings on the planet. Finally, a country in the EU that makes Greece look good. Have at it!

Soul Glow's picture

Thus why the which currency is better:  the Euro or the Dollar is ludicrous.  Both governing bodies have used faulty economic priciples for their economic policy.  With China and Russia tallying impressive gold reserves over the last decade - rivaling Europe's and the USA's - we see what the buyers of the debt think.

Independent's picture

Sloane they are just going to give them paper euros and dollars that are worthless in return for valuable farmland, gold, coal, and a 46 million slave market, etc.  These Euros and USSA bankers are not dumb.

smacker's picture

"...it seems the EU just can't wait to take on the massive debt that the Ukraine represents."

Quite so. It becomes clearer when one considers that the "EU project" to create a new empire called the United States of Europe has always taken precedence over all other matters. To the likes of Barroso, economics is something that can wait until the USE is fully up and running and poking its nose into everybody's business. That's why no action has been taken to end the farcical Euro currency, even though it's destroying the economies and societies of member states.
