Masked Men Storm, Seize Two Ukraine Cruisers In Sevastopol
Earlier today, heavily-armed masked men in military attire, stormed two Ukraine corvettes, Lutsk and Khmelnitsky, in what is now Russian territory at the port of Sevastopol.
This is what AFP reported:
Pro-Russian crowds seized two Ukrainian warships Thursday and Ukraine said its troops were being threatened in Crimea as the European Union considered new sanctions against Russia for its annexation of the Black Sea peninsula. Tensions in the region remained high despite the release of a Ukrainian naval commander held by pro-Russian forces.
Shots were fired but there were no casualties as the Ukrainian corvette Khmelnitsky was seized in Sevastopol, according to an AP photographer at the scene. Another ship, the Lutsk, was also surrounded by pro-Russian forces. The Defense Ministry had no immediate information on the incidents.
Perhaps considering Ukraine said it had pulled its troops from Crimea, they should also have pulled their ships, although it is unclear just where they would pull them to. Regardless, this is what the actual storming of the ships looked like.

Surprised anybody raised a gun: it's probably mainly for the camera. Some of these guys are probably related. Nobody there wants to hurt anyone, unlike the pro-Nazi snipers at the Maidan protests back in February. By the way, have those guys been apprehended and brought to trial?
This is local ex military or individuals that either under the orders of Russia or Russia turned a blind eye decided to take the vessels. That's why it doesn't look real tactical (which I think it's tactical enough for a bunch of militia). They took that and the reason why the Ukranians sailors didn't shoot back is because they knew that it would give the militia carte blanch to use heavier weapons on the ship until they surrender and then take out the few that still are on board. They where outnumbered in a place that was hostile to them.
All bases, and equipment in Crimea were annexed by Crimea and were ordered to be turnedover today. The servicemen were given a choice to join Crimea or be deported to Ukraine.

The Ukrainian navy isn't much, looks like the ships docked to me and I'm not seeing any sailors, just a skeleton crew. More than likely they saw it "abondoned" and just boarded it, these look to be militia types (or dressed as militia).
There is no heavy firepower, so obviously they knew they weren't going to be in a fight.
Hell, Obama could have taken this ship with a little help from Biden ;-)

Even if there was only one crew member, this is an act of war and would have seen at least some level of defending the vessel.
Humbly I say again, the act of war happened when Russian troops entered the Crimea...under the guise of protecting Russian speaking citizens, who were not under attack from anyone.

And may I just say in passing, that MGS2 was one of the best video games of all time?
