It appears the madness is contagious. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, embroiled in an ongoing and huge corruption probe, lashed out at "international conspiracies" in a speech at a rally in Bursa. "We'll dig up Twitter - all of them - from the roots," he raged, "they'll see the power of the Republic of Turkey." With the looming elections - sure to fair and equitable to all - he warned he would "settle scores" after winning. Indeed...

Most of us do know a gold-backed currency is not flexible. Why not just have gold reserves, as Europe does? The Euro is not backed by anything, yet they account for it at market value quarterly.

No government in currencies is the ideal. But even going back to a fake gold standard (1933-1971) would be a plus.
There is no reason for any "standards" whatsoever. If you have circulating gold & silver coins you don't need "standards". And if you put .gov markings all over the coins that's saying that the .gov writing, mottos and not the content that is important. Or your county's gold is somehow better than another country's gold. It's pretty easy to see how the posters here, their parents and grandparents were swindled.
