China Takes Sides: Sues Ukraine For $3bn Loan Repayment

Tyler Durden's picture

It is widely known that Russia is owed billions by Ukraine for already-delivered gas (as we noted earlier, leaving Gazprom among the most powerful players in this game). It is less widely know that Russia also hold $3b of UK law bonds which, as we explained in detail here, are callable upon certain covenants that any IMF (or US) loan bailout will trigger. Russia has 'quasi' promised not to call those loans. It is, until now, hardly known at all (it would seem) that China is also owed $3bn, it claims, for loans made for future grain delivery to China. It would seem clear from this action on which side of the 'sanctions' fence China is sitting.

Via RBC Ukraine (Google Translate),

In 2012, The State Food and Grain Corporation and the Export-Import Bank of China agreed to provide Ukrainian corporation loan of $ 3 billion, which was planned to be on the spot and forward purchases of grain for future delivery to China.

Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Igor Schweich confirmed that China has filed a lawsuit against Ukraine in a London court for the return of a loan of $3 billion.

The Ukraine minister disagrees with China's case:

"filed false information that there are no claims to us from China. According to the contract have different interpretations, different interpretations, which led to the treatment of the Chinese side in court Gaft who works in London. Registered dispute between the parties exists," - said Minister told reporters.

According to him, the parties agreed to take the following week a representative of the Chinese corporation for the possibility of peaceful settlement of the dispute.

"We, for our part, will do their steps to ensure that the other party or retract its announcement, or we found another way to a peaceful settlement," - he said. According to Schweich, a meeting will be held on March 26.

Ukraine appears to claim that these loans were made by the previous administration

The Minister added that the main problem lies in the fact that some leaders of PJSC "State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine" incorrect information. "These people are now removed during the protest," - said Schweich, noting that China "is relevant to understand."

In February 2014. the current Prime Minister of Ukraine Yatsenyuk said that "location $ 3 billion is not found."

While China has been relatively quiet in the background - though abstaining from the UN vote waqs a clear signal of relative support for Russia - this is a meaningful step in the direction of pressure against the West, as yet again, any bailout funds would flow straight to either Russia (gas bill sor callable bonds) or China (agriculture loans).

First of all, lawyers have to give the answer to one simple but important question:
Legally or illegally was change of power in Ukraine.
Lawyers should make ordinary legal examination and issue a final legal opinion.
I assure you that in the world there is no lawyer who can put his signature under the statement about "the legality of armed rebellion in Kiev."

Thus, in terms of Law , so-called "new government in Kiev", is illegal and illegitimate . It is not government power. This is criminal rebels and an impostors. And it does not depend on the opinion of the U.S., the EU and NATO. It says Law.

Supposedly Ukraine elections end of May would make coup government legal. However , it seems no one is has confidence elections will ever take place or can predict what will happen in Eastern Ukraine where Russian influence prevails and where most of industry is located with Russian troops on border in stand-by position. High probability for Ukraine to split which explains why China wants their agricultural loan money now, especially since agriculture is located in Western Ukraine, and Russia wants payment now for natural gas deliveries made to previous government.
Obama's trip to EU can only inflame situation . Quiet diplomacy is required and for Neocons to back off. Replacing Nuland would be a first step--- blame it on use of profane language.

I've been saying that what's being missed here in this conflict is that looks to me like it's about business.  Ukraine is way behind on debts to Russia and China.  I think when Ukraine started falling apart, Russia moved to protect it's interest and it's business with and through Ukraine.  Now China is suing to collect.  I think we are being fooled by a media who wants to say that evil Russian empire is moving to rebuild the USSR when it  may be about business all along.

What i never knew is that Ukraine is a big exporter of corn.  China fronted them loans for future delivery and now it appears that Ukraine is trying to welch on commitments.  What a turnaround it would be if it comes to pass that Russia and CHina are the real capitalists and the US & EU are the socialists who only want to maintain the status quo of EU & US subsidies by making Ukraine dependent on subsidies in return for their admission into the EU.

No doubt the Ukrainian leader was a crook.  But the Ukranian people elected him.  Who's fault is that?

Ukraine has often been described as the 'breadbasket of Europe'.  Their production of wheat, corn and other food crops was very important to the former Soviet Union.  It is also very important today, as Monsanto can now safely introduce their sharecropper economics to the European market.  That is, of course, until their water resources are contaminated by fracking like Poland and Romania.

Of course, it's business.  The western media has been putting this invasion spin on it in order to inflame public opinion.  There are many influences at work here.  One of the main objectives is to remove the Russians from a port that they controlled for 250 years.

On the subject of crooked politicians, those two words are never found far apart.

Supposedly Kirk according to another post here a few stories back their gold natural deposits are like 500 tons of gold split evenly between west east Ukraine and now Russian Crimea.  But this gold is the hard stuff to get out and requires toxic cyanice processing, which is a death sentence to the environment.  A gold mining related cyanide spill in Romania was the second worst european ecological disaster after Chernobyl.

here is a great documentary about cyanide gold mining but its in Peru

Now the biggest gold deposits in Europe and some of the biggest in the world are right across the border of western Ukraine, in the same mountains, the Carpathian Mts aka as the Transylvanian Alps, in Romania, and the owner of those resources via bribes and corruption is none other than Beny Steinmetz, richest man in Israel.  Figures he would be right next door to the other Jew Yani who is in charge of Ukraine right now.  To give you an idea how much Gold Romania had, its been mined since before the Roman Empire existed.  When the Romans conquered Romania the gold haul was so big that it made the empire whole for two hundred years and it accounted for all the famous roman buildings that we now see in Rome, like the Forum and all the classic buildings of Rome from that period.  The place still has tons of gold but the big veins of gold are gone and what is left are very small veins that require open pit mining and processing the soil with hundreds of thousands of tons of cyanide literally.  WIth huge gold deposits still in Romania its interesting the USA has opened up a big base there under the pretext of getting stuff out of Afghanistan (when they already have functioning large bases in Bulgaria and Turkey).  Also the IMF is working on getting the Romanians in more debt than they can handle.  All little levers to pull to get them to approve the mining with cyanide.  Also its been known that USA uses its bases to spy and intercept communications in the countries they are located in.  I am sure they will be gathering dirt on politicians against the mining.  And Ronald Lauder owns Pro TV Romania via CME and is also president of World Jewish Congress.

Now with dual citizens in charge in the USA, and dual citizens oligarchs all over eastern europe we know they got all bases covered, especially the Media with the big boss Ronald Lauder orchestrating the whole plan via World Jewish Congress.  LOL the Protocols of the Elders of Zion going on strong baby.  And as usual all the dual citizens have hands in each others pies with cross ownerships, like a dual citizen oligarch in Ukraine is also invested in CME, and shareholders in Romanias gold concessions include American billionaire Thomas S. Kaplan of Electrum Group and American hedge fund manager John Paulson of Paulson & Company.

What country can stand a chance against well financed and well organized criminal and killer clowns like these guys.  And people complain that Putin has a few billion dollars, it takes a lot of money to fight these bozos in a democracy they can corrupt and buy out and then plunder.

Ok found this site says 500 tons of gold and 1500 tons of silver in just the Rosia Montana mine alone in Romania

Dont ever get between a dual citizen and YOUR GOLD LOL

Yep, So that mine in Romania is about 25 billion gold alone, not including the silver, and there may be a lot more gold if they come up across big veins deeper than the previous mine tunnels.  This thing has potential to be really big considering there were huge veins higher up.  Now this is only one site in Romania, there are other mines.  Now the funny thing is with bribes these guys get to keep 80% of the Gold  and the other twenty percent that goes to the govt is paid for in dollars not gold, so these mofos walk away with all the gold.  With corruption in Africa the govts still get 40 to 50% of the mining proceeds, lol the Romanians are more F uped than the Africans.  If Ukraine has as much gold as Romania makes sense why the Tribe via USSA and the Euros want them so bad, of course not to mention the fracking and the farmland (probably the best farmland in the WORLD) a gift that just keeps on giving year after year and you dont give the locals anything if you own the land now.  At least the Chinese were leasing the land.

This JUST IN      Israel Radio reported that Obama administration officials have not ruled out Netanyahu’s proposal that Pollard be released in exchange for Israel’s agreement to free Israeli Arabs convicted of terrorist acts.

With Israeli-Palestinian peace talks teetering on the brink of collapse, US officials are mulling a desperate bid to resuscitate the negotiations by making a significant move that would win the approval of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s coalition, one that may perhaps include the release of Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard, Israel Radio reported on Sunday.

Its embarassing to be an American, these dual citizens have completely taken over this democracy, I mean JEWTOCRACY.  What a farce this crap is so we release Pollard just so they can talk to each other about not having a peace deal LOL.  Look at how hard the Jews try to spring this American traitor and soon to be Israeli citizen.  But they have no qualms at killing millions of innocents by having America invade other countries for them.  Face it gentiles you are worth nothing to them since you are slaves.  The Sons of Abraham will gladly slit your throat and let your blood flow.

Rabbi Ovadia Yosef one of the highest Rabbis in Israel said...

"Goyim (gentiles, non-Jews) were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world – only to serve the People of Israel," he said, according to the Jerusalem Post. "Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi and eat. That is why gentiles were created." An "effendi" is a lord, or a master, in Arabic.

These are the Scum that control your politicians and tells Obama what to say on his telepromter.  They put him in office and Obummer is being a Good Uncle Tom serving the Masters.

Here is your link for that:

The total output value of the U.S. financial services industry is composed of two major parts: one is the transferred production value, most of which comes from value distribution of participating in international production. Another part is the inflated value originated from credit innovation, which belongs to bubble value. In addition, due to the high economic financialization, more than half of the profits in the real economy come from the returns of financial activities. If we exclude the factor of virtual economy, the U.S. actual GDP is about 5 trillion U.S. dollars in 2009, per capita GDP about $ 15,000. Meanwhile, the total domestic consumption was 10.0 trillion U.S. dollars and government expenditure was 4.5 trillion U.S. dollars

Freddie, for what it's worth, I have spent some time in Qatar. I will not elaborate right now, I will just say that I have the distinct "impression" that Qatar has some pretty solid relations with the US as well.

I too am intrigued as to the real reason why Bandar Bush got deep-sixed. I wish I knew.

According to one popular story, Bandar Bush overplayed his hand while trying to negotiate with Russia over their Syrian proxy war, insulting and threatening Vlad with retaliation from the Chechen terrorists the Saudis control.

Something weird is going on and it os moving fast.  Dr. Jim Willie is saying that London is stealing the Saudi gold to deliver to China cause London "ain't got no" gold.  The Saudis want Qatar to shut down Al Jezzera.

Supposedly Qatar has some future deal to use Russian pipe lines.   Maybe OPEC does not believe the Saudis numbers. Venezuela supposedly has the most but much is tar sands.  Some say non-Opec is Canada with tar sands.  While Russia supposedly has the most.  Russia and all the neighboring Stans have the most. Add in Iran and the oil and gas dwarfs everyone.

The Eurojerks blithely wandered into the Bear's lair and started poking him with sharp sticks and the next thing they knew he had been ejected them from the cave with a flourish. I suppose the Eurotossers thought the Bear would be like the British Lion and just roll over and follow their every wish like a decrepit and senile performing circus lion.

Sadly, for the Euroloons the Bear has big teeth, powerful arms, sharp claws, a nasty temper, bad halitosis and he does not suffer fools gladly like the moth-eaten old British Lion. Lessons may be learned but more likely, not- the Eurodorks will need to have their arms wrenched from their sockets to really get the message.

Taken in the aggregate, Russia and the 'Stans do not even come close to half the oil Venezuela has by itself.

Many people ignore this fact when they discuss Venezuela. They prefer to put on ideological blinders and discuss how evil "socialism" is, the virtues of holy laissez faire, what a piece of shit Maduro is, etc. It is a huge blind spot that affects any rational calculus and appreciation of things. Yes, the drawback to Venezuela's oil is that it is mostly "heavy crude" meaning it has a lot of sulfur, is denser and less viscous, and requires more effort to refine. However, it has been proven and certified as commercially viable, and is awful close to home...

Here is a neat link from a branch of the US Energy Department I keep as a bookmark. One can modify queries in many different ways and print spreadsheets.

There is an Arab summit this week. It has been on and off, but apparently it is going to take place. I have not been able to get my head completely wrapped around the disarray in the Arab house, but there is some serious animosity and disagreement between them right now related to Iran, Syria, and Egypt. Maybe some bits of insight will spill out of their deliberations.

Christopher Booker wrote-"On Friday, when their acting prime minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, came to Brussels to sign that Association Agreement, the EU was so embarrassed that the ceremony had to take place behind closed doors, away from the eyes of the media. The poor man was not even allowed a microphone, but had to shout out his wish still to see Ukraine as an EU member."

On the EU bashing- well, they completely deserve any abuse they get. They went along with the stupid scheme to attempt to corn-hole a bear and got mauled. As far as I am concerned, they deserve to be ridiculed and insulted. What the EU is setting Ukraine up for right now is a complete disaster that they will live to regret.

One observation- Europeans can be every bit as ethnocentric as the US can. Notice how in the article you linked to, the author parts from the premise that it was all about the EU, and ignores all the heavy lifting, effort, and expenditures by the US in this sordid affair.

Christopher Booker wrote- "this episode has been the most salutary fiasco the “European project” has ever brought upon itself in 60 years"

Classic! What a great line.

The operation in Ukraine is being called the new Gladio (incidentally, Francesco Cossiga, former President of Italy, who blew the whistle on Operation Gladio and resigned for that, claimed 9/11 was a CIA/Mossad job):

The new Gladio in Ukraine

by Manlio Dinucci

Looking back to the coup in Kiev and the information provided in our columns during the course of the events, Manlio Dinucci describes a decades-old device used by the United States and NATO as it appears today: a new "Gladio," that is to say a secret military structure capable of manipulating political facts.
To paraphrase a famous U.S. television series: "The Pentagon will deny all knowledge of your actions ..."

The presence in Ukraine of Israeli military specialists is confirmed by the information relayed by the JTA and other Jewish news agencies, according to which many of the wounded in clashes with the Kiev police were immediately carried off to Israeli hospitals, evidently to prevent someone from revealing any more inconvenient truths. Such as the one about the people who trained and armed the snipers on Maidan Square who, with the same precision rifles, fired on both the protesters and police (almost all shot in the head).

These facts shed a new light on the way the coup in Kiev was organized and implemented. Under the direction of the United States and NATO, the CIA and other secret services have for years recruited, funded, trained and armed the neo-Nazi activists that in Kiev stormed government buildings, and were then made into the "national Guard.”

Former Italian President and the man who revealed the existence of Operation Gladio, Francesco Cossiga, has gone public on 9/11, telling Italy’s most respected newspaper that the attacks were run by the CIA and Mossad and that this was common knowledge amongst global intelligence agencies.

In war lies oportunity. Putin picks his battles wisely and ignores provocation. The west used to invite itself into other countries under the facade of spreading democracy. Now a vote has taken place and they don't know how to spin it, shaking in terror that other might take it as an inspiration.

Pro-Russian forces are taking over military objectives and it gets reported as Russian invasion. There is a huge difference between pro-Russian residents of Ukraine taking action into their own hands and actual invaders crossing borders. That's why the western threats are all bark and no bite.

What is Crimea? It's blowback - the kind Ron Paul talked since he first ran for president in 1988. US keeps making enemies, spreading its empire thin across distant lands, meanwhile the exhaustion is taknig its toll. The EU - the "Union" is falling apart under the weight of its own corruption and Russia doesn't even have to lift a finger to take advantage of the situration. This may very well end in war.

For Germany, world war was all-or-nothing bet. They took a stance and lost to the rest of the industrialized world. No oil reserves or colonies = no empire.

Russia is a huge eye soar on the face of this planet for anyone depenent on imported fuel (or their own exported fiat).

I'll end it with a favorite quote by Robet Newman:

"I will tell you this much about the United States - we are sure bringing about world unity, cause the one thing that unites the entire planet: hatred of us."

Good points. In this fight, Russia is on home ground and has it's own people in the mix. America has long exterior lines of supply and communication with the contested area. Russia is weak compared to the vast USA military. But, USA is spread all across the globe, Russia is at home in it's own land with it's entire Army, Air Force, Missile Forces and Navy. It need only defend while America must find a way to attack. Putin knows his military is capable of defense of Russia, and as a last chip, Russian offical military doctrine is first use of tactical nuclear weapons on ANY FOREIGN force that enters Russia proper, Russian Military is tasked to detonate nukes over any invasion force on Russian soil that the conventional Russian military is unable to turn back.

Would you want to command the US Army on a drive to Moscow, knowing if you win a land battle you will be nuked? No, the USA military knows Russian doctrine, and if commanded to inavde Russia, they will mutiny, as well they should. Americans do not like suicide missions. Russia isn't Iraq, The US Military knows this, but Washington Neocons don't care, because they never do the fighting.

Then came the pivoting to Persia - "if we are not going to war", as that Cypher in Search of an Idea, John Kerry, put it. There was, of course, the martial pivoting to Syria, aborted at the last minute thanks to the good offices of Moscow diplomacy. And back to the pivoting to Russia, trampling the much-lauded "reset" and conceived as a payback for Syria.

Whether you agree or disagree with Willie this only makes sense given the money the Royal Family is losing on the USD and it’s survival.  But it still leaves many more questions than answers as to the "Volgograd bombings" in Russia before the Olympics that had Saudi involvement and the threats from Prince Bandar “Been Dead” Sultan made months before the games?

Wonder if we’re seeing a split in the House of Saud with their intelligence community (pro vs. anti U.S.) being offered up as good will for future trade deals with the Russians and Chinese?  We know that at least 17 of them are dead including the ringleader Dokku Umarov…  Looks like everyone may be turning on the U.S. at this point and rightfully so.  Wouldn't want to be doing that "covert thang" in any of those place especially Eastern Europe at this point.

CCTV just reported that the wookie told an audience at a Chinese University that " it's better to travel 10,000 miles than to read 10,000 books."  Seriously.

Sounds something like "it takes a village..." but even dumber.

Don't stereotype me muthafucka...

Meanwhile, in Chinese news that you cannot make up:

Michelle Obama tells Chinese students internet freedom's a universal right

And it turns out in a new Snowden revelation released today that the NSA has been hacking Chinese tech giant Huawei since 2009 and spying on Chinese leaders:

Chinese telecommunications firm Huawei Technologies, long considered a threat to U.S. security, has its e-mail spied on by the National Security Agency, according to reports published Saturday in The New York Times and Germany'sDer Spiegel.

Both news organizations attributed the spy activities to NSA documents from Edward Snowden, the former NSA staffer who leaked documents and fled to Russia, showing that the NSA was able to tap into Huawei servers in Shenzhen, picking up information about the inner workings of the company.

Huawei makes routers and switchers that connect a third of the world's population.

"Many of our targets communicate over Huawei-produced products," the Timesquotes the NSA document as saying. "We want to make sure that we know how to exploit these products," it added, to "gain access to networks of interest" around the world.

The NSA began targeting Huawei in early 2009.

Among the people whose emails the NSA was able to read were Huawei president Ren Zhengfei, Der Spiegel said.

The operation, which Der Spiegel claims was coordinated with the CIA, FBI and White House officials, also netted source codes for Huawei products. One aim was to exploit the fact that Huawei equipment is widely used to route voice and data traffic around the world, according to the report. But the NSA was also concerned that the Chinese government itself might use Huawei's presence in foreign networks for espionage purposes, it said.

The American government conducted a major intelligence offensive against China, with targets including the Chinese government and networking company Huawei, according to documents from former NSA worker Edward Snowden that have been viewed by SPIEGEL. Among the American intelligence service's targets were former Chinese President Hu Jintao, the Chinese Trade Ministry, banks, as well as telecommunications companies.

But the NSA made a special effort to target Huawei. With 150,000 employees and €28 billion ($38.6 billion) in annual revenues, the company is the world's second largest network equipment supplier. At the beginning of 2009, the NSA began an extensive operation, referred to internally as "Shotgiant," against the company, which is considered a major competitor to US-based Cisco. The company produces smartphones and tablets, but also mobile phone infrastructure, WLAN routers and fiber optic cable -- the kind of technology that is decisive in the NSA's battle for data supremacy.

Forget QE.  Here is the Ultimate solution: Everytime we change Presidents the incoming President repudiates the debt of the former.  !!  All our problems are solved.

How about this....

If the incoming President inherits a deficit from the former President than the incoming President executes the former.

I have to laugh at $billions$ being owed as the catalyst for anything other than a giggle.  Let's include the trillions in derivatives exposure if you want to get serious.  Come on... The US and Japan have been blockchaining billions a month in 1's and 0's that isn't included in this fiasco for years.  China too.  Nigga pleeze.

It's only $3bn, the part of Ukraine that produces the grain in the contract is still under Ukrainian Government control so there should be no problem delivering in the future as planned.

The Russians have said they won't call in their loan for now.

What happened to the $3bn is different issue.

At the end of the day, Janet can just add anonther 3 to the 65 (or whatever it is) she is going to print this month and pay it off for them, after all Vicky has already invested $5bm.

Their economy is in a mess, just print the money and help them sort it out instead of all this stupid macho posturing by people who are supposed to be the leaders. Idiots.

Honestly, this Putsch regime has some fucking nerve. Absolute gangsters. I can almost see the Minister of Agrarian Policy bursting into the Chinese embassy with his baseball bat-wielding Svoboda mates and roughing up the ambassador, before demanding China cancel all of Ukraine's debts.
