Poland Is Quietly Mobilizing Its Army Reservists

Tyler Durden's picture

It seems the words of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warning that “the world stands on the brink of conflict, the consequences of which are not foreseen... Not everyone in Europe is aware of this situation," are a little more real than some (US equity buyers) might suspect. As The Week's Crispin Black reports, at least 7,000 Polish workers in Europe have received call-up papers as army reservists in the last few weeks. Polish authorities dismiss it as "routine" but the men note this has never happened before.

As The Week's Crispin Black goes on to note,

At least 7,000 reservists have been recalled to the colours for immediate exercises lasting between 10 and 30 days.

They’re told by the Polish authorities that the call-ups are “routine”: but the men say they haven’t been asked before and they’re well aware of the growing alarm in Warsaw at President Putin’s aggression.

Three weeks ago, their Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, called a press conference to warn that “the world stands on the brink of conflict, the consequences of which are not foreseen… Not everyone in Europe is aware of this situation.”

My own view is that Putin was initially more concerned with righting a specific historical wrong in Crimea than starting a new Cold War.  This is still probably the case despite the dawning truth that the EU/Nato Emperor really has no clothes at all.

But in the worst case scenario of a truly revanchist Russia, Poland certainly has the borders from hell.  Starting from the top, it abuts Kaliningrad (the Russian exclave on the Baltic carved at the end of the war from East Prussia), Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine.

None of these borders relies on any natural barriers like rivers or mountain ranges – they are just lines on a map drawn by Stalin in the full flush of victory.  No wonder the Poles are feeling vulnerable.

Kalinigrad = formerly known as Konigsberg

Poland has much in common with other Slavic lands, main difference being hundreds of years of closer relations with the West, more specifically, Italy, Spain and Germany, and... Catholicism.

Poland = largely Catholic

Russia and other Slavic lands = largely Orthodox

edit: read France, where I wrote Spain, above.

Wasn't it George Washington or the other Framers of The Constitution that warned Americans to stay out of European squabbles?   Sadly it is former, probably Odessa, dual citizen rats like Nudelman and other dual citizen types stirring up this evil shit.

Just because the only associated people who seem to care about another region in the world (in the CONUS) are Negroes (you know, 'African-hyphenetaed-Americans'), this does not mean that the people within this 50-state area do not have freinds, family, ties, and an interest in all the regions of the globe.

'Give us your poor, your tired, your huddled masses'... something like that, over at Ellis Island...

My Mick friend, my Wop friend, my Kraut friend, my Polack friend, and I were just discussing issues. Our Muslim Bosnian friend was discussing his career as a policeman (before the war, and his subsequent evacuation of his family to this nation). Still haven't decided what to call him. Is he 'Bosco'? I'll bring the subject up tomorrow and discuss it with my Egyptian co-worker.

Just because I don't like Haggis, that doesn't mean I am not following the Scottish call for independence over here. I have blonde hair and blue eyes, and one of my old Kraut friends a long time ago (we used to call him 'Karl the Kraut' to his face) thought I might be German. Helluva nice guy, and a great Porche mechanic...

I met a man, my next-door neighbor at a house I rented, back in the 1980's. He was from Hungary, and was a 'freedom fighter' against the Communists, before he managed to get himself and his sweet wife the hell out (and over here). He was quite proud of his citizenship, and made me proud to be natural-born as well.

In reply, you-all are talking some shit about why people in the CONUS would care what happens, and trying to speak of 'government entanglements' and such esoteric crap... and all you seem to be focused on is the JOOZE who run YOUR nations as well as mine.

I caught this story over on WRH this morning, and read it while wondering WTF was going on. it took the munificent posters over at ZH a few hours after I first read it to post it. It was posted there on 24 Mar 06:19. Don't know if this is Hawaii time or GMT (UDT).

The Poles have a absolute right to mobilize their own reservists for the defensive purpose of protecting the borders of the sovereign State of Poland.  If Polish troops, however, cross into Ukraine, in an attempt to provoke an open NATO-Russia conflict, then the Polish people will fully deserve at least another 6 million dead as collective punishment for the irresponsibility of their war-mongering US-stooge government.

The wisdom of issuing a call up when the Neo-Nazi regime in Kiev (that they openly support) is joking about genocide is another matter, but I'm sure there a good Polack joke for that...

I'm sorry, I don't understand German, Japanese or Italian.

Other then that I don't think the US should be involved in most wars. Unfortunately, it is the elite that continue to create them and it is the populace that pays. The populace lets it happen though. Right now the US populace is letting the US government do whatever and we'll pay for it in one way or another.

There is a cost whether the US gets involved or doesn't.

Re: Koenigsburg.

I was wondering, while we're re opening old wounds, if the german speaking peoples would like north prussia and especially Koenigsburg back.  I'm sure most zerohedgers don't know the history of this region.

like most regions in Europe this one houses a deep reservoir of bad feeling going back through World War II and earlier.  when you sprinkle in to that mix energy flows and energy policy and especially when you add the certifiable sociopaths who have always controlled politics you have a recipe for human suffering on an  absolutely epic scale.

it should be obvious by now that politics IS the problem; that most people just simply want to live, but the madmen, murderers and uber greedy who never have enough of looting and killing and seem to view the world as a stage upon which they fulfill their destinies; these are the people we must be rid of somehow.

it's easy to see why libertarians consider the act of running for office to be a disqualification for office.

You're somewhat right.

Russia doesn't have to come for them.  Russia would be delighted to see these reservists called up and their units deployed.

The reason?  Supply vehicles will have to cart supplies out to those deployments.  Then the troops will have to rotate home on leave, and then back out to the assigned locale.

All of which increases Poland's oil consumption.

The Warsaw Uprising (Polish: powstanie warszawskie) was a major World War II operation by the Polish resistance Home Army (Polish: Armia Krajowa) to liberate Warsaw from Nazi Germany. The rebellion was timed to coincide with the Soviet Union's Red Army approaching the eastern suburbs of the city and the retreat of German forces.[9] However, the Soviet advance stopped short, enabling the Germans to regroup and demolish the city while defeating the Polish resistance, which fought for 63 days with little outside support. The Uprising was the largest single military effort taken by any European resistance movement of World War II.[10]

The Warsaw Uprising was a complete Military Failure and a Politically insignificant event(the Soviets owned Poland regardless). 100,000 dead civilians and a city levelled to the ground can only in Poland be called a "success".

The truth is Poland wanted a war with Germany, your politicians firmly pissed Hitler off on purpose, than you got your asses handed to you and cried to France and Britain to come and save you, pathetic loosers.

Technically, the true enemy of the world is the entropic principle, as embodied in one of the two universal polarities, that is, service-to-self. The small self, aiming to serve the illusion of its ego, tries to divide itself against the whole, which is rightly all-encompassing. Hence, shying away from the All whose center is Everywhere, the STS polarity forces itself to diverge into self-negation, away from Everywhere and into nowhere. Finally, to sustain its own illusion, this incarnation of the entropic principle then seeks to bring the rest of the universe with it into annihilation, that it might finally rest into non-being.

Well, at least, from the practical point of view, "Rothschild Central Zionist Banking" is a lot less of a mouthful...
