Poland Is Quietly Mobilizing Its Army Reservists

Tyler Durden's picture

It seems the words of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warning that “the world stands on the brink of conflict, the consequences of which are not foreseen... Not everyone in Europe is aware of this situation," are a little more real than some (US equity buyers) might suspect. As The Week's Crispin Black reports, at least 7,000 Polish workers in Europe have received call-up papers as army reservists in the last few weeks. Polish authorities dismiss it as "routine" but the men note this has never happened before.

As The Week's Crispin Black goes on to note,

At least 7,000 reservists have been recalled to the colours for immediate exercises lasting between 10 and 30 days.

They’re told by the Polish authorities that the call-ups are “routine”: but the men say they haven’t been asked before and they’re well aware of the growing alarm in Warsaw at President Putin’s aggression.

Three weeks ago, their Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, called a press conference to warn that “the world stands on the brink of conflict, the consequences of which are not foreseen… Not everyone in Europe is aware of this situation.”

My own view is that Putin was initially more concerned with righting a specific historical wrong in Crimea than starting a new Cold War.  This is still probably the case despite the dawning truth that the EU/Nato Emperor really has no clothes at all.

But in the worst case scenario of a truly revanchist Russia, Poland certainly has the borders from hell.  Starting from the top, it abuts Kaliningrad (the Russian exclave on the Baltic carved at the end of the war from East Prussia), Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine.

None of these borders relies on any natural barriers like rivers or mountain ranges – they are just lines on a map drawn by Stalin in the full flush of victory.  No wonder the Poles are feeling vulnerable.

Of course the REAL war will start when Russia and China drop the Financial-Nuke:  Currency backed by Precious Metals and Precious Energy.  And then dump the US Treasuries.  DC, NY and Tel Aviv will have collective heart attacks.

Got PM: Platinum, Gold, Palladium, Silver?  Got Strategic Metals: Titanium?  Got Strategic Minerals: Rare Earth Minerals?

Got Precious Energy:  Oil, Natural Gas?

No?  I guess you're screwed then!  Get the frack outta here!

Try heating or running machines on all that fiat paper you've got and all that Digital Debt:  Near insolvency and an aging population.  Shit, even lowly Bitcoin will more attractive than Digital Debt at that point.

"Better call Saul".  Or move to Chile, Russia or Canada.  Tick, tock, tick, tock.

No hint here whether Poland is in on the mischeif.  Are they aware of NATO getting serious about war plans?  Or Romanian war plans for that matter?  Do they want a war?  Do they dream of taking back their former piece of Ukraine?  Do they have designs on Kaliningrad?

But in on it or not, foolish or not, this mobilization is what to expect, because the region is becoming a tinderbox and the Empire is playing with fire.

they're just barking like the good little US lapdoggies that they are. They know they cant touch Russia. Russia has no desire to intervene in Poland or Baltic states or even eastern Ukraine although it could seriously damage these countries even just by suspending gas exports temporarily.

What they say and what they do are clearly two different things.  Obama, as with other Presidents, has a record for telling the people one thing and doing the exact opposite.  Anyone can clearly see that they are and have been making a case for war these past few weeks and that is exactly where this Ukraine situation is heading toward.

Someday, sooner rather than later, some small nation threatened by a bigger one is going to use biological weapons to level the playing field. I can't believe that there aren't a lot of very smart people in a lot of small countries that can't afford big things that go boom who haven't figured out that all it takes is a few liters of bugs and the right prevailing winds and your big, bad enemy will puke and shit himself into a early grave. There was a fascinating programme on BBC Radio, a couple of years ago.

The tenor was that there exists "internet clubs" of geeks who experiment with biological weapons, in the comfort of their own kitchens.

There was a CIA guy on the programme ... who basically threw up his hands and said, "We can't find or control them."

There was no suggestion that these people were of evil intent, btw. But, it was made clear that the apparatus is comparatively simple and can be home-made.

Poland - if you hae not studied the history of this fascinating country, then you cannot fully understand the intersection of politics, nationalism and war.  It is a 1000 year history lesson worth the read - from heroism to folly to destruction to phoenix.  It is a wonder that this country even exists today - say what you want about these guys (and gals), but they are the quintessential definition of resilience.  They are also Slavic, as are the Russians, and the Slavs pretty much invented RealPolitik.  As we are "celebrating" the 100th anniversary of the initiation of WW1, I have been watching this particular country rather carefully (no - they did not start WW1, but they rose from its ashes and became the "red line" that plunged the world into WW2, and then became the flashpoint that led to the downfall of the Soviet Union - again - these folks bear careful watching).

I believe that this latest dust up, so generously given to Eastern Europe by our illustrious leaders, has put this rather interesting country in a rather challenging bind.  Until recently, the Poles have been (with amazingly dextereity given their rather chequered history in foreign policy and governance) walking a 3 axis balancing act - they have embraced NATO and US missiles (given their record for being invaded ,I'm not sure that I, if in their shoes, would do it differenctly) but have been quite silent on many matters that the US might have wished support on; they have joined the EU, but quite wisely refused to join the Euro; and, despite a rather oppressive communist history, they have developed and maintained good relationships with their former Eastern European neighbours (including Russia), building strong commercial relationships and maintaning reasonably peaceful relations with them (weren't they one of the first to recognize Ukraine as an independent nation).  Actually, given their geopolitical circumstances, they have done quite well, especially as their current Premier has been using the old "communism bugaboo" to rally political support for himself (thankfully his actions have not always aligned with his words, but that seems to be the norm in that part of the world - don't listen to what they say, rather watch how they vote); however, given the escalation of matters that has occurred, they are no longer able to walk that line.  They have to pick sides.

From what I see, I think that they are throwing their lot in with the Europeans (wasn't it the Poles who allied with the French and the Germans - another somewhat surprising political turn of events - to create the accelerated presidential election plan for Ukraine that the now ousted President agreed to; only to have our illustrious leaders continue on with the coup (missiles or not - that early PResidential election greement certainly cannot be construed as support for American foreign policy).

So what's going on - I suspect that a country that has been invaded as often as Poland has recognizes the danger signs of potential rapid destabilizing escalation better than any of us sitting in Western Europe, Australia or the America's.  They know these things can get out of hand, and they are getting their ducks in a row in case they have to move fast (how much warning did they have regarding the 1939 German, or for that matter Russian, invasion??).  RealPolitik - hard nosed prudence.  As they didn't make a big announcement in the press about this, I can only surmise that this is low key precautionary - 7000 reservists - for Poland, that is not even a dent (read about the time when this country nearly lost Warsaw in 1920 - pretty much the entire population came out to fight (that's what I call reserves) - BTW - they then went and beat the Soviet Union and Lenin eventually sued for peace - I believe that makes them the only country to have defeated the Soviet Union on their own land (Afghanistan was a failed foreign adventure, just like Vietnam was for US - not an action on home soil).

All in all - an interesting country with more homeland experience at the sharp tip of the harpoon than any of the rest of us (not that I'm complaining).  From studying this rather unique land, I have come to the conclusion that they are either easy to read, or impossible to fathom - and often both at once.  Watch the nervous canary in the coal mine.

BTW - my Special Forces acquaintances have told me the Polish Special Forces (I think they called them "Grom" - might have the spelling wrong here) were a class act that punched way above their pay grade, and anytime the Poles had their six, they felt as safe as if our own had their back - not sure what this says about the rest of their forces, but an interesting tidbit.

In modern warfare with antitank weapons so devistating, all conventional weapons and human flesh is crushed with the exception of stealth aircraft and a few bunkers can survive for a time once the match is lit. Such tools are only good to intimidate and hold ground already liberated by 'local' defense forces with 'democratic' armed referendums.

Back in old old age men get drafted to die because the population couldn't afford to lose women demographic since they are needed for next generation. But since our world is already over populated I think it's time to also draft women to the war, it's the best way to reduce stress onour natural resources. And for the % of women that survived the war, they can run for government position and compete against those other old geezers, they certainly will have better a chance raise to the top of politician world maybe with that we can see a change in our government for the better?!

Of course women coming home from war show the same aggression as the previous generation of men, so they may just murder their husbands due to uncontrolled depression and aggression....

Then they flesh out with a general call-up, the admin and training already staffed.

Simple really, the ruling elites in the US emanate from Central and Eastern Europe starting with huge waves of immigration from Russia in the late 19th Century and from Germany, added to by the Church Amendment. The decendants of these immigrants were able through men like Jakob Schiff to deny Russia funding leading to its defeat by Japan in 1905 - the first defeat of Whites by Asians in hundreds of years and inspiration for Pearl Harbour.

The funding of the Bolsheviks by New York interests to tople Tsardom, the flight of talent from Europe to Hollywood in the late-1930s all contributed to a re-direction of US policy against Germany and towards USSR.

Once Israel emerged as a counterweight the Soviet system was less attractive and the hatred of Russia became more intense as Russia became less Marxist and more Orthodox and nationalist, the Forces ranged against them became more frenetic. The US Elites intend a global empire where Washington rules for US Bankocracy and all are subservient to the New Class running the US system
