The 8:30 AM Gold Dump, Carry Pump Is Right On Time
This morning's pre-open is dominated by deja vu all over again. Just as we saw yesterday, right on cue at 830ET, gold (and silver) are unceremoniously dumped and USDJPY is pumped so as to ensure stocks look shiny for the US open (and Biotech can be dumped to the next greater fool). Oil is not moving, 30Y bonds are weaker, and the USD is flat... all makes perfect sense if you don't think about it.

There is a Libertarian tenant that essentially says... "Since you can't count on lucking into having Good people in charge at the top, it is best to design governance systems so even when Evil people are in power, they are limited in the harm they can do". The follow-on is that the most protective system of this fashion turns out to be minimally sparse government, where those at the top have little power regarless of their nature. Good, Evil, doesn't matter; they have strictly defined roles and little authority to do otherwise. I'm pretty sure this was the bulk of the thinking behind our Constitutional Republic.
My fear is that minimally sparse governments will never last over the long term if the population is predominatly sheeple. Vigilance upon the part of the citizens, slapping those at the top back into place each and every time they overstep, is the only true way to keep government from bloating over the ages. Given the current density of sheeple, I'm guessing we're hosed for the foreseeable future.
If you ever have government, you have to be eternally vigilant. The US constitution proved this, because its goal was to contain the power of government and it failed massively. Since prosperity breeds complacency, government necessitates the occasional violent revolution. In the past, when a nation's decadence led to it becoming weak, the empire next door would walk in and take it over, but this no longer happens very often anymore. Therefore, we are going to have to figure out how to get rid of it completely if we want to get rid of these occasional violent revolutions.
Oz by oz, year by year, keep stacking. Anyone doing this will be giving their children a wonderful gift.

Rather than look at the sheep side of the equation, you can glance at the control freak side of things. There are also probably more people aware of the control freaks game than at any other time in human history.
Knowledge does not translate into action. The only way for 330,000,000 people to do anything about the Oligarchs, plutocrats, dictators masquerading as duly elected pols, is for them to organize.
And that is simply not going to happen in a nation as diversified in culture, language, social issues, economic standing, without a Lobby.
