Fall Guy? Port Authority Chairman Resigns Amid Christie's "Report" Exoneration

Tyler Durden's picture

"They can't make up facts," Governor Christie blasts in his press conference, "read the report!" It seems the chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, David Samson, did not need to read it all and gave his resignation to Christie before the ongoing news conference - effective immediately. Mr. Samson, as WSJ reports, was a strong ally of Christie and had been under intense scrutiny for weeks, after investigations into the lane closures led the media, legislators and federal prosecutors to examine the intersection of Mr. Samson's private business interests and his leadership of the bistate authority. Fall guy?

Via WSJ,

David Samson resigned as chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Friday, marking a third resignation of a top ally of Gov. Chris Christie amid the fallout from the George Washington Bridge lane closure scandal.

...

Mr. Christie announced Mr. Samson's resignation Friday, in a news conference addressing Thursday's release of a report commissioned by attorneys representing his office. Those attorneys found no evidence that Mr. Christie knew of the lane closure affair before it happened.

...

Mr. Christie said he embraced his attorneys' calls for reform of the Port Authority, and suggested he would even support "dismantling the Port Authority operations," a drastic step that would represent a sea change in New York and New Jersey government.

...

Mr. Samson said in a statement that he had told Mr. Christie for months that he wanted to leave the authority.

"Over the past months, I have shared with the Governor my desire to conclude my service to the PANYNJ," Mr. Samson said. "The timing is now right, and I am confident that the Governor will put new leadership in place to address the many challenges ahead."

Nothing to see here, move along... on the brioght side, at least Christie wasn't trafficking weapons...

Ya not to play into the whole left/right thing, but it's funny how the media can't get enough of this, but goes out of its way to ignore the current admin selling guns to Mexican cartels, IRS targeting the tea party. And they are perfecting willing to accept the Obama admin knew nothing about it, but they jump on this. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe for a second Christie didn't know about this, nor would I ever have voted for him anyway, it's just funny how bad the double standard is.

Anyone that can actually be elected as governor of a state in New England is no conservative.

The idea that you can't "make up facts" is laughable.  See e.g. George W. Bush, re WMD, James Hansen on AGW, or just about any newspaper headline.  We are living the Orwellian dream.

There are no facts.  There is only power.

Maybe Henry Hudson?  He'd likely be following this, having made two attempts on behalf of English merchants to find a prospective Northwest Passage to Cathay (today's China) via a route above the Arctic Circle. Hudson explored the region around modern New York metropolitan area while looking for a western route to Asia while in the employment of the Dutch East India Company.[3] He explored the river which eventually was named for him, and laid thereby the foundation for Dutch colonization of the region.

Hudson discovered a strait and immense bay on his final expedition while searching for the Northwest Passage. In 1611, after wintering on the shore of James Bay, Hudson wanted to press on to the west, but most of his crew mutinied. The mutineers cast Hudson, his son and 7 others adrift;[4] the Hudsons, and those cast off at their side, were never seen again.

Fri, 03/28/2014 - 16:47 | 4603706 ParkAveFlasher
ParkAveFlasher's picture

That's because it's not so much a scandal, as a simple vetting manuever or shakedown or test run or distraction.  The real scandal involves Chris' even more pig-like brother Todd, who is the brains of the outfit (and also a big Wall St. insider, btw, as I am told by eyewitnesses):

Only thing it shows is the power of the MSM to shape public opinion, even of otherwise "awake" people.  They can bury a real scandal or make a scandal out of nothing. They create the news.

"In less than 48 hours, ABC, CBS and NBC deluged viewers with coverage of Chris Christie's traffic jam scandal, devoting a staggering 88 minutes to the story. In comparison, these same news outlets over the last six months have allowed a scant two minutes for the latest on Barack Obama's Internal Revenue Service scandal. The disparity in less than two days is 44-to-one."

http://www.mrc.org/media-reality-check/deluge-now-44-times-more-tv-cover...

Then it was a shakedown, and I think Camp Christie arranged for the extended coverage, or perhaps RNC, because Todd Christie is a dripping, oozing, sore, bleeding with corrupt cash, which the MSM is more than happy to lap up, given ample opportunity.

"Slow down there, Magellan...New Jersey is not part of New England."

And who is the sole arbiter of that?  aside from you of course ;)

Seems that it might not be as cut and dried as you think:

"By 1686, King James II had become concerned about the increasingly independent ways of the colonies, including their self-governing charters, their open flouting of the Navigation Acts, and their growing military power. He therefore established the Dominion of New England, an administrative union comprising all of the New England colonies.  In 1688, the former Dutch colonies of New York and New Jersey were added to the Dominion"

Scumbag will show up in some new high paying cush gov or bankster "job."

After all, he is a professional liar and thief crat, and they are in high demand in the DC US these days. 'Tribe' member too.

In fact, the scrutiny surrounding “Bridgegate” includes a number of Jews in supporting roles, both inside and decidedly outside Christie’s inner circle...

Samson was born in Newark and grew up in Hillside. Robert Folkenflik, professor emeritus at University of California, Irvine, who knew Samson as a child in Hillside and later as a fraternity brother at Zeta Beta Tau on Rutgers University’s New Brunswick campus, said he did not remember him “as being especially Jewish.”...

Samson was a founding member of Wolff & Samson, a West Orange-based law firm, and served as chair of the New Jersey Domestic Security Preparedness Task Force. He served as NJ attorney general from 2002 to 2003 and was elected Port Authority chair on Feb. 3, 2011, after being nominated by Christie.

I loathe Chris Christie, but the media acted like he murdered somebody.

Someone in his officeclosed a few lanes of traffic to get back at someone.  It's probably the most honest thing a NJ Governor has ever been accused of doing.

Compare that to Obama arming drug cartels in Fast&Furious, using the IRS to go after political enemies, bank bailouts, QE, etc.

The media was scared Christie might be formidable in 2016, so they're trying tomake as big of a deal of this as possible.
