Friday Humor: A Bear Market In... Guillotines?
French auctioneers are disappointed (but the elites may not be). Having sold for 193,000 Euros in 2011 (but unable to be shipped to its Russian buyer due to export license issues) this 'slightly used' Second Empire guillotine failed to reach its minimum bid of 40,000 Euros in an auction today in Nantes, France.
This guillotine was used during the Second Empire, not for common criminals, but for the military. It is marked "Army of the Republic" on top of the blade, an expression that refers to the Vendée wars, during the Revolution.
Perhaps one glance at the glaring divergence in the following chart...
will raise the demand for guillotines once again.

Only poor people want guillotines. The oligarchs want nothing to do with them.
I am against capital punishment, but not against life sentences on islands with gladiator style games of survival televised for profit to pay down national debts.
Most oligarchs would likely put on a very boring show. Imagine Soros.
The guillotine has been rendered obsolete by the modern pneumatic nail gun.
Pneumatic guillotines, now there's an idea whose time has come.
It actually has much more to do with the blade, with wood just not putting on the same show as metal. But that would likely be an extra 140,000 euros. The auctioneer is trying to follow the gillette model. The money is in the blades.
Boris is still wait for delivery, but is give up.
Too bad, because this would normally be a great time to buy in.
Way too pricey.. way too quick and painless.
All you need is a hank of rope and a convenient tree or lamp post.
The guillotine was usually used for aristocrats. The noose was the way to deal with common criminals and thieves.
Ahhh ...., but as a tool she is a thing of beauty!
Be sure to load you guillotine properly with the banker facing up.
I don't know. They seem kind of unreliable. Maybe if it was a full auto nail gun, so that you could burn through 8 nails in under a second.
Wife is recommend Glue Gun, but Boris is not know, she is use glue gun for fix every thing.
Dick to belly.
You are also suffering burn of second degree?
There are some complexities here: Chuck "My Loyalty Begins in Tel Aviv & Ends on Wall Street" Schumer & Dianne "When The NSA Tracks You, Ehh,
But Hell To The No If They Will Track Me!" Feinstein have sponsored legislation limiting pneumatic nail gun magazines to have a maximum capacity of 2 nails.
Honestly, they need to limit those assualt nail guns to 20 psi...
for the childrens.
Nanny States nanny because they love us.
Likely failed to reach minimum bid on account of the guillotine being to civililized a device for the task at hand.
Supposedly, Marie Antoinette never actually said "Let them eat cake." It was a phrase which existed long before her time and was skillfully employed for propaganda purposes.
Incidentally, I have it on good authority that the secret ingredient in Soros' morning smoothies is essence of baby.
Mrs. Antoinette is actually say, "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche". Brioche is not cake of batter, but is bread of leaven dough:

Is look like coiffure of Ukrainian political celebrity:

(Note on side, who is like watch cage match of Tymoshenko and Palin?)
upvote for getting your French grammar and spelling correct
"let them eat bread"
Never liked Brioche though, prefer baguette
She never said it - it was Rousseau who put it in a book speaking of a young queen (when Marie Antoinette was around 3 years old): http://listverse.com/2008/05/15/top-10-famous-historic-misquotes/
"Let them eat bagels."
Where's your creativity? Instead of a basket, why not attach a PLINKO board?
Much like the gold market...the market for guillotines is also manipulated.
I guess when the time comes when heads starts to roll....it will skyrocket like the price of gold.
I'm left to wonder, just what is the marginal utility of a guillotine, as measured in Euros?
I agree that capital punishment is wrong but not so for a revolution. It has to be that way so the chosen live in fear of ever trying to control people for the rest of the history of this planet. Lets give the scum something that will cause sleepness nights for a thousand years.
War, in itself, is unethical. It may become necessary for survival, but it is still unethical.
Capital punishment? Yeah, I don't trust the government to execute the right person, and I don't trust the government to make sensible choices on what acts a person can be executed for. Does a person who rapes and murders a child deserve to die? Sure. But execute a person for that crime, and you have taken something that can never be given back, nor can there be any sort of compensation should you find out that you executed the wrong person.
Once the organ banks are perfected, running a stop sign will get you planted.
I fully agree that some people deserve to die, but I have yet to find any group that deserves the power to implement it.
The most unethical and immoral thing about war is losing.
The death penalty should only be decided by the victim.
Kept in a registry beforehand.
Yes.
On a deserted island with one Walmart store where everything in it is fake except for one loaf of bread that they fight to the death for.
Here here billy... I second that!

If you put a teleprompter on the other side of a guillotine a politician will willingly stick his head into it.
Poor oligarchs soon. remember it is not the poor who revolt but the squires.
If we could fractionalize all TPTB's necks on one, in one afternoon...it would be priceless.

With my eyes closed..listening to this song...
I see sheets of green, red bottom lines too. MOPE for most, but not me and you.
And i think to myself, what a wonderful world.
They snort piles of white, and think they fool. Put on a stage shillin, a bankers tool.
And I think to myself.... what a wonderful world.
I see bankers heads a roll. Politicians too. What im really trying to say is TPTB... I hate yoouuuuu.
A fair metals price, a market thats true. Bring better days and gillotines too
"and i think to myself, what a wonderful world...ohhh yeah"

Ohhh. to dream
Promise to paye. you gotta lie.
That graph perfectly illustrates the central planning takeover of the markets. skynet is complete.
Skynet is complete, and bancrupt (no gas for the guns).
The 1.6 billion rounds were bought when they still had credit.
To be used, when they don't.
It's a BUY, BUY, BUY! Don't worry... it's just a 215 year correction. Consider them on sale. You want to buy when there is blood in the streets!!!
I prefer meathooks.
Yunnker poss.
Ah.....Thinking about statists, bankers, internationalists etc. What a solution. Let's get the assembly line moving on this....
meh cilck bait. worked on me.
I think the next popular revolution will call for a far less humane method of execution than the guillotine....
I've got a rusty wood chipper...ala Fargo.
this is not needed here now.
fema already have a nice classic post modern design.
thousands have already been made placed in the freedom camps and also in the shunting yards and on the transport trains.
goy you must die.
Slaughterhouse technology has moved on. Now you just shoot the pigs in the head with a pneumatic hammer and they fall down. No more betting how far the headless corpse will run if you whisper in their ear just before the guillotine strikes, "You're free! Run!!!"
nice pic --but how about a DIY Machanics Illustrated type design to go with it. Shouldn't be to hard to make--it's not rocket science you know

God I hope not. I need at least 5 months more out of this market. My Probezeit runs then.
Thereafter I would be more than happy to see bond yields catch up with reality. However, given Jens' recent sellout I imagine Europe has a decade or so of qe in it before everything explodes.
"wht has been will be again, there is nothing new under the sun"
it the Bible.. Ecclesiasties
How Franxce can enjoy this honey moon in the bond markets is a true mystery. France is the main problem i Europe and nobody seem to care.....yet.
Life is unethical if you are forced to compete. who forces you? inteligents here to gain advantage, but you squeil like babies whin force is used, gun or no gun, how many people drove out the police when the community was attacked.
I love the game.
But ricoutuness must lie elseware.
A good hanging is so much more satisfying, and if done right, slow and humiliating.
I dunno.
I sure like the sound of a guillotine. Schoomp! Thunk!
Guillotines have enough fast action for our video game addled youth. They don't have the attention span for a good hanging, or a bad one.
I tend to favor impaling.
Who needs an antique that might break when used, when one can procure all that parts to build a modern and new one cheaply.
"Built by Americans for use in the DC US."
What with that rumour that there were 30,000 new ones (imported),
in the USA... 15,000 stored somewhere in the southern states; and the
other 15,000 stored out west..
Everything I want is so damn expensive. I would definitely give 30,000 euros for sure for a first republic guillotine but I bet one of those go for a million euros.
I actually have a machinist shop. I wonder if it's illegal to build a functioning guillotine? I'm going to find out. Of course I wouldn't want to stock any of them here because the black suits would show up in the middle of the night and id be the headless wonder the next day.
I thought they might make a good ebay item lol.
rsnoble: I also have a shop for building "special projects" but we've moved on to modern times. For example, I can modify a Bear Grylls parang that operates just like an old French Guillotine but it's much more portable.
Patent Pending...
It's because there's a competing product - Sokkomb - and for much cheaper. We need 'em in bulk, ya know.
Guillotines offer an interesting peek into human psychology. They were invented by a humanitarian as a humane alternative to hanging - and they most assuredly are that. Yet because they involve severing the head from the body - which looks grisly - they have given way in civilized society to execution methods such as lethal injection. LI is a horrific way to die, but preserves the fiction of humanity by leaving the body intact.
In other words, the obsolescence of the diagonal, descending blade is one more example of the triumph of appearance over function. We value looking good over actual utility, right up until the end.
40,000 Euros is not so expensive when you amitorize its use over 40,000 bankers, lobyists, and politicians.
Those guillotines aren't that complicated, and definitely present a home-based occupation opportunity. Fairly low start-up costs, and me and my investors see demand accelerating exponentially starting in 2Q '14 and beyond. If anyone here is interested, let me know and I'll draft up a proposal and an estimated time for delivery. Oh, by the way, if you are currently laboring under capital controls in your jurisdiction and you want to transact in Bitcoins, I'll need an IRS 4Q showing you're current in all of your capital gains taxes.
Fema and Homeland has bullets covered, now they need lots of Guillotines and crematoriums to be full service.
HARD CORE MOTHER FUCKER.
NHS AT ITS FINEST.
Man chops off his own hand with a homemade guillotine… and is now threatening to amputate his arm
