What Happens When "The Workers" Just Don't Care Anymore?

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Michael Snyder of The Economic Collapse blog,

One of the big problems in America today is that a lot of people simply do not seem to care about what they are doing anymore.  The level of sloth, laziness and apathy that we are witnessing in this country is absolutely mind-numbing.  Of course this is not true of everyone.  There are still many Americans that are extremely hard working.  But overall, it really appears that people are not taking as much pride in their work as they once did.  Some of the examples that I am about to show you are quite funny.  Others are more than just a little bit disturbing.  But they all have a common theme.  Americans from all walks of life are simply giving up.  Whether they are teachers, delivery people or fast food workers, the truth is that there are a whole lot of people out there that seem to have mentally checked out.

For example, take a close look at the midterm exam posted below.  Does anything stand out to you?...

Midterm Exam

If you can't read the writing in the red box, this is what it says...

"In all honesty, I am already bored with this topic. It is far less interesting than I had hoped and I really don't want to finish this essay. I'm fairly sure you don't really read these so I'm just going to put enough words down to make it seem like I wrote a lot while I kill time. Wanna hear some words that rhyme with time?

Crime, dime, mime, (haha mimes are funny), chime, lime. Aw dude you know what has lime in it? Sprite, it like lemon lime. I could really go for one of those about now, but not sierra mist, that just isn't the same. It tries too hard to be sprite but it just cant pull it off. It should just try to be itself and stop trying to measure up to other sodas."

To be fair, there is a tremendous amount of debate about this photo on the Internet.  Some people insist that no teacher would ever be so careless and that this picture must have been photoshopped.  Others that have studied this photo insist that there is no sign of alteration and that it is 100% authentic.

I will let you come to your own conclusion.

What is undeniable, on the other hand, is that there are a lot of delivery people out there that simply do not seem to care anymore.

For example, in the YouTube video that I have posted below, you can watch a postal worker drive her truck on to someone's lawn.  She is so lazy that she doesn't even have the energy to take a few steps and place the package at the customer's door...

And in this next YouTube video, another postal worker does not even get out of his truck.  He just carelessly tosses a package (which could contain something very expensive) toward the customer's home...

What would cause someone to act like that?

What has caused so many Americans to no longer take any pride in their work?

Another place where this can be seen frequently is at fast food restaurants.

For instance, the photo that I have posted below of a Wendy's employee gulping down soft serve ice cream with his mouth under the Frosty dispenser went viral on the Internet a while back...

Wendy's Employee Enjoying A Frosty

I don't know about you, but to me that is absolutely disgusting.  Needless to say, that worker quickly lost his job.

And of course there is no shortage of other fast food horror stories out there.

The following is one of my favorite examples...

Tony Hill, a pastor in Baltimore, Maryland, once got a deep-fried mouse along with his chicken at Popeye's. The old "I found a rat in my fried chicken!" urban legend is decades old - this particular story was given a little credence, however, by the fact that local health authorities confirmed that the Popeye's in question had a rodent problem.

These days even the criminals are getting lazy.

The following story is very tragic.  Violent crime in America is on the rise, and as the economy continues to get worse people are going to steal just about anything that is not bolted down.

In the little town of Denison, Iowa, a couple of thugs recently shot and killed an elderly couple while they were attempting to steal some scrap metal...

A Denison man told investigators that he and another man shot two people, then set fire to a trailer with the victims inside, according to court documents.

Jayden Chapman said he and Michael D. Schenk shot Marvin Huelsing, 80, and Alice Huisenga, 81, on Monday, according to a criminal complaint and affidavit filed in Crawford County District Court.

This is the kind of thing that we are going to see a lot more frequently in the years ahead.

Those thugs thought that they would get away with murder by burning the victims inside their own trailer, but they foolishly left behind a receipt from the Wal-Mart where they had just been shopping at the scene of the crime...

A pickup truck more than 200 yards north of the trailer also was burned. Near it, investigators found on the ground a receipt from the Denison Walmart with a debit-card number from a food-stamp card. Authorities determined the card was assigned to Schenck.

In this case, justice was served by the slothfulness of the American people, and I hope that those murderers are given the highest penalty allowed by law.

But in general, slothfulness is a terrible thing.  And it isn't just a few people that are being slothful.  This is a national disease.  I like how Jim Quinn put it in his recent article...

The government controlled public education system has flourished beyond all expectations of your owners. We’ve become a nation of techno-narcissistic, math challenged, reality TV distracted, welfare entitled, materialistic, gluttonous, indebted consumers of Chinese slave labor produced crap.

But even though so many of us are aware of what is happening to us, we just can't seem to break out of it as a nation.

It really does seem like most people are walking around in a fog these days.

Maybe the fact that 70 million Americans are on mind-altering drugs has something to do with it.

I don't know.

But unless Americans start taking more pride in their work again and start living their lives with meaning and purpose, it is going to be very difficult to envision a positive future for this country.

You got it.

I want to say more, but as I type I realize there is too much to say. To not care is toxic. It hurts. It is all around me.

The next step, when you have nothing to lose, that is when you really lose it.

From Phil Collins:

 "I Don't Care Anymore"

Well you can tell ev'ryone I'm a down disgrace

Drag my name all over the place.

I don't care anymore.
You can tell ev'rybody 'bout the state I'm in
You won't catch me crying 'cos I just can't win.
I don't care anymore I don't care anymore

I don't care what you say
I don't play the same games you play.

'Cos I've been talking to the people that you call your friends
And it seems to me there's a means to an end.
They don't care anymore.
And as for me I can sit here and bide my time
I got nothing to lose if I speak my mind.
I don't care anymore I don't care no more

I don't care what you say
We never played by the same rules anyway.

I won't be there anymore
Get out of my way
Let me by
I got better things to do with my time
I don't care anymore I don't care anymore
I don't care anymore I don't care anymore

Well, I don't care now what you say
'Cos ev'ry day I'm feeling fine with myself
And I don't care now what you say
Hey I'll do alright by myself
'Cos I know.

'Cos I remember all the times I tried so hard
And you laughed in my face 'cos you held all the cards.
I don't care anymore.
And I really ain't bothered what you think of me
'Cos all I want of you is just a let me be.
I don't care anymore D'you hear? I don't care no more

I don't care what you say
I never did believe you much anyway.

I won't be there no more
So get out of my way.
Let me by
I got better things to do with my time
I don't care anymore
D'you hear? I don't care anymore
I don't care no more
You listening? I don't care no more
No more!

You know I don't care no more!

In my experience, the quality of work is deteriorating quickly.  There are a number of reasons why this is now occuring in workplaces.  The bottom line is that it will result in drastic productivity declines and a rapid introduction of robotics.

I don't believe the introduction of robotics has anything to do with worker productivity declines, it has to do with replacing humans with cheaper robots and it is true primarily in automotive industries.   Notice automated lettuce or carrot pickers haven't been introduced to replace dirt cheap immigrant farm workers.... hey, they're dirt cheap why bother? All the numbers out there in reality-based journalism or data from the more factual rather than politically oriented think tanks show far higher productivity from workers today than ever before however workers have not enjoyed higher wages that, historically, came with higher productivity.

Easy to not give s shit when you see your "own government" bring over millions of foreign aliens with a wink and a nod to take the job you once had for a fraction of the pay, employers telling their employees; Sorry, no more insurence, raises or overtime, and as a matter of fact, in two weeks time your replacement will be here, so teach him/her your old job for a final paycheck. Bottom line is this: IF YOU PLAY BY THE RULES, YOU LOSE. Just ask Hank Paulson or Jon Corzine. Hard work and honesty are not only no longer rewarded, but you are punished for those attributes. The sheeple are begining to realize that no matter what they do, they will never get ahead. The more they work, the more they fall behind. Even an idiot starts to see the light after awhile.

When the game is rigged you don't keep playing hoping you get a different outcome the next time around. That is insanity. You just stop playing the game until it reforms itself on it's own or dies of starvation. Non participation bitchez. Bullets cost you money, starvation costs them money. That doesn't mean you give up you just refocus what you have instead fighting the system you just build parallel bridges towards real change as we go from here to there.

When the USA went 'FULL RETARD", all but the retard's left the USA.

When did the USA go 'full retard'? Probably around 1984, been hard-fuck since.
But certainly "AMERICA WHAT WENT WRONG", was already FULL tilt in the 1984-1988, but 1988 ALL THAT was once america was GONE.

I suspect the article's claim is true.  We all have anecdotes.  Like the withering away of the local Veterans Day parade, lots of people promised to march or help but didn't show.  The decline over five years, or even since 2012, is dramatic.  No more crowds, just scattered onlookers.  Plenty of Vets for the free breakfast though.

This goes along with a widespread sense that our health is collapsing, sick and dying people everywhere. Nothing in the government statistics supports this but when I told a friend in the Medical Examiner's office about the CDC claiming life expectancy is up and he shared it around, he reports his fellow workers laughed at it.

Yet, this article is very weak.  The subject deserves better.

How would you actually measure this?

"Public Education is welfare for people with liberal art degrees"

been this way since the 1950's, prior to that a 'teacher' just had to have passed high school and be able to teach read'n,writ'n, and arith'n

Then along came the NEA ( teachers Unions ) then the 'teachers' became the #1, and the students became the garbage.

In summary for 50+ years public schools have become prisons for children, a place where liberal college graduates could pass their days collecting fat pay-checks and 'children' could wallow in pathetic misery.

Any wonder that 2+ generations of this shit, and that its not what it is? Love yourself or your children? Get the FUCK OUT OF THE USA.

I work with people that should be put down (like the family pet). They're incompetent, remember little of what information imparted to them, and they are not who you'd expect. They are middle-aged folks, apprarently one diet soda away from diabetes, slow and docile. I think it's the anti-depressants or maybe the Ambien. A retired American, I was taught in my youth, Do your work for the Lord, not for men.

Few men for whom I worked deserved my help, so I never worked for them, rather I worked hard to please my Lord.

You may despise my words, but they may explain much of the forgotten "work ethic," which had nothing to do about the glory of work.

Great comment. I remember reading St. Augustine's Confessions, in which he wrote about the purpose of life is to work hard. Regardless of what the work was.

I don't care what religion anyone is (or is not), but as American culture has removed religion from the conversation over the last several decades, it also has removed the idea giving everything you have to your daily tasks. But I don't know if it is causation or correlation.

A study of four decades of wage trends in the United States, for example, revealed that the median hourly wage is less than two-thirds of what it would be had pay kept pace with productivity gains. Authors Lawrence Mishel and Kar-Fai Gee, writing for the Spring 2012 edition of the International Productivity Monitor, calculated the extraordinary mismatch between productivity gains and wages. Their study found:

During the 1973 to 2011 period, the real median hourly wage in the United States increased 4.0 percent, yet labour productivity rose 80.4 percent. If the real median hourly wage had grown at the same rate as labour productivity, it would have been $27.87 in 2011 (2011 dollars), considerably more than the actual $16.07 (2011 dollars).” [page 31]

Almost every penny of the income generated by that extra work went into the pockets of high-level executives and financiers, not to the employees whose sweat produced it.

Could it be undiagnosed depression??? I was going thru this when I saw a psyc doc and walked out after the first appointment with a prescription for Prozac (Fluoxetine is the generic) Made me feel better within days but my attention span was probably no better than that of a seven year old so I started on ADHD medication first ritalin then adderall.  The problem is the late day crash and when both are wearing off can produce almost like an Amphetamine psychosis for a few hours but at least I noticed dramatic improvement in my work, I actually was able to focus in meetings without looking at phone every two minutes etc....

I have many problem's with this story.

Once on the ground in Diego Garcia, power is transferred from flight to ground Military. They would have came on board and scanned for all devices, ok maybe the engineer pulled the battery maybe not.

One thing interesting is this story is viral,, and the GPS does point to the big hangar on Diego Garcia,... but I think we all know that the plane wasn't there long and the people have been long moved, and the plane has been ditched to be never found in deep water.

*

Lastly, we don't know much about MH-370, but what we do know

1.) All MIL satellites know, and only INMARSAT(PRIVATE) is reporting.

2.) That everything coming out of MALAY government is/was a lie.

3.) That the plane was taken over by Boeing Un-Interruptible external flight control.

4.) Malay didn't announce the plane was missing, until the plane landed.

Given that all MSM said look SOUTH, IMHO I would look NORTH.

Plane back tracked over MALAY then went north around INDONESIA, I doubt me thinks it went north over MYANMAR where radar is piss poor.

Also going north ensures that GUBMINT cooperation as the CIA has ran BURMA(MYANMAR) since the 1950's. Certainly CIA controls MALAY, ...

All eyes were on southern ocean.

I have been told many times by job seekers of their outstanding skills to later be disappointed. It is easier to brag and talk a good game then actually produce results. Bottom line is that till this discrepancy is resolved do not be surprised if many businesses chooses to pass on more hiring.

Yes many people will do anything for a job, but it seems, they won't do that! By "that" I mean, do enough productive work that their employer actually "makes money" and profits from their labor. The article below looks into why I find adding workers more trouble than they are worth.

This type of article on ZH, is where the rubber meets the road on real bullshit.

I myself spent most of my years starting companys, and selling them, and flipping them, and turning the cycle, rinse and repeat.

What did I learn from the 1960's to 1970's to 1980's to 1990's?

That the WHITE guy ain't worth SHIT, he's a loser.

Any wonder why Microsoft, Oracle, Apple, .. GOOGLE, all have ASIANS/INDIANS in all the top INTELLECTUAL positions?

Hell even INTEL, its a minority white and even less for women, this of course all goes back the good grad schools post 1970's, they cranked out ASIAN's, who got the PHD's and masters.

*

Hire a white guy and the project never gets finished. Hire an ASIAN and he finishes the project, cuz he doesn't want to lose face.

Face means a lot in ASIAN culture,

Post 1980's we sent all the jobs back to ASIA, why bring them here for what? Better to have the good jobs where the brains and talent are at.

So the USA reverts to a nation of hairlips that aren't unlike a tribe of baboons in any African jungle to be found.

Is any of this new? Fuck no.

Prior to the 1980's I used to start and manage companys in the WEST, post 1980's ONLY in ASIA.

It's about the PEOPLE folks.

The people were never the white's.

Michael Synder if he must understand the problem he must only look in the mirror.

*

The USA is/was a nation of convicts, like Austrailia the world sent their human garbage to the USA.

To suggest that the USA was ever anything else than what is clearly seen now with the presence of +60 MILLION CAMERA's, is crazy, its always been a nation of hairlips, retards, mongoloids, and nitwits.

For 20 years I tried giving white kids fresh out of college a 'chance', then I saw the pattern, and saw that only the ASIAN's ever did what they were told and finished the project.

*

The problem is with the USA education, post 1960's everyone could be an engineer priot to that you had to be smart.

Kids coming here from asia are all tested, if they didn't have an aptitude they would have been farmers.

Post 1960's the USA sent IQ<100 folks to college to be engineers, so the majority of kids in the 1980's coming out of schools were idiots.

Sure MIT, Wisconsin,Stanford, ... 'good schools', but even there go look at the face their all asians,...

Anyway I'm a white guy, and I was a protegee as a CHILD so I could do the MATH/SCIENCE, ...  self taught before 12 years old, so I was starting companys by 15, and finished college prior to 16,

*

You Zerohead's may not like what I have to say, ... truth hurts, get over it bitchez you were always hairlips and nothing special.

*

Yep, go watch FIGHT-CLUB, a bunch of white guy losers circle jerking each other, ... if the shoe fits, maybe this is fight club in virtual reality.

There has always been slavery in this country, formerly it was just black folks and other darkies but now it is obvious the powers that be are ready to toss out the old gentleman's agreement between the white middle class and the elites. Yeah, nobody gives a fuck. If you work hard and can't even bring home enough $ to pay the bills without putting your electric bill on a CC charging you 20% you may not feel you have much of a stake in the system. If you stupid fat fucking losers don't like spit in your super glutton man meals why doncha raise the beef, slaughter it, grind the grain, basically make your own fucking McBurger from scratch you fucking hypocrite loser shit for brains cunts... Oh, yeah, because you can't, you've never had so much as a callous on your hand much less dirt underneath your fingernails. Obama was right about one thing, "You didn't make that!". No shit. YOU don't MAKE/DO shit. The people who actually "labor" in this economy instead of just sitting behind a desk with a spreadsheet, bitching and moaning about taxes have every right to tinkle in your soup tureen and laugh while you lap it up you dogs because you can't even bake a cake to let them eat ... enjoy your feces sandwiches bitches served up hot and fresh  and with a smile!

And maybe all the "drug crazed" zombies running around wouldn't be offing witnesses if they weren't terrified of being consumed by a prison industrial complex that puts people away for decades for property crimes that end up costing "victims" pennies, if anything. Why should anyone care?

If you work an honest job, most of your paycheck evaporates before you even see it.

It's kind of hard to care about your job, when someone else not working is eating 50% of  your paycheck.

This is why high taxes are bad.

-Destroys incentive to work

-Pulls money out of the economy and puts it into the most wasteful sector of the economy (government).

-People who NEED the money in order to maintain their standard of living are forced into a scenario (because of taxes) that they either have to "commit a crime" by hiding money, or lower their standard of living, its a criminal offense to be successful in American,  because if you are successful, you are expected to forfeit 60% of your success to government, which more or less would turn you from a success into a failure.

There are SOOOO MANY PEOPLE that WOULD BE MIDDLE CLASS if they were not taxed so harsh.

THERE ARE SOOO MANY PEOPLE that HAVE FALLEN OUT OF THE MIDDLE CLASS due to taxes.

Taxes promote poverty, and destroy morale.

All taxes should be eliminated, and there should only be a consumption tax, there also needs to  be a debt jubilee every 7 years to wipe out the old worthless debt, the bank doesn't give a rats ass if people pay their mortgages or not, they have an unlimited supply of blank checks from the Fed, the only reason they still collect on debts is to keep the slaves in line and to act as the boogy man "we will take your stuff unless you get back in line slave", meanwhile they never had the money to loan out in the first fucking place.

Modern finance is a joke, Modern government is a joke.

They are simply broken systems that rely on the public remaining docile slaves.

The only hope any American has for actually improving their situation is to cut corners/commit financial crimes, thats how the 1% doit.

The key to success in America

-Know the right people

-Drugs, lots of stimulants to keep the brain going

-Don't pay anyone till you pay yourself, leave the scraps for the slave labour

-Step on everyone you can as often as you can, in order for you to get rich, someone else has to be poor

Those are just the sad - facts.

The odds of an honest man, doing honest hard work and slowly building a future are gone, there is no car in the garage there is no house on the hill and there never will be for 80% of Americans out there.

Nowadays, honest is just another word for sucker.

Lets say the people in the photos and videos above actually tried, what would be the difference? how much would honesty, integrity and hard work improve their situation? 5%? 10% improvement?

Who is going to "work hard" while working for 8$ an hour - 2.52$ an hour in taxes?

When a meal and a tank of gas costs you an entires day wage? what incentive is there? the only incentive is to "not suffer more" at that point people will only do the absolute minimum required to keep themselves from slipping over into poverty, because the expected reward for extra work is simply too low.(it doesn't pay to be hard working and honest).

In my family, I call myself, wife and my kids teammates. When my little teammates fight over their Monster High dolls or about having to go do some type of family emergency, I tell them we are teammates and need to work together. With that said, I'll consider the rest of America my teammates too, although its a different type of team. I wouldn't expect my little teammates to pay me rent for living in my house, and I don't expect my American teammates to demand rent (in the form of taxes) from me either. Forget all taxes, including the consumption tax, and let's bring back tariffs and fund ourselves with those.

That kind of attitude would work best, America should "team up" against the rest of the world, thats the entire point of a "country" its supposed to be a "team" that you form so that you can compete against other "teams" (nations) for the same scarce resources (earth minerals wealth and treasure).

America is a very disfunctional team, its like we are sitting around arguing over who gets what from who in our own team instead of planning ways to take resources away from other teams (russia, china, europe).

America in a sense is a failed state (team), we can no longer play on a competative level economically with the world, so we have turned inward to self-consume ourselves and redistributre the little global wealth we control.

We are lossing control of the earths wealth day by day to stronger teams (russia, china etc...).

Let's be honest, if there was an all out war between America and Russia and China, America would lose in its current state.

1) We are outnumbered with boots on the ground 10 to 1

2) We may have more high tech war machines, but they have 10x the amount of war machines

3) The only tactical advantage the USA has is communication systems, and air-craft carriers which can easily be taken out with EMP/Subs

4) We have no domestic industrial economy, most of the factories have been shut-down and we are simply a service economy (you want fries with that?) vs. (I press the button to make the machine spit out Tanks).

5) We demonize success, We demonize productivity, We demonize energry production and we protect wasteful industries while stamping out real competitive alternatives (thorium reactors for example) which could pretty much make America a world leader in energy production.

The U.S.A is WEAK in terms of political strength, even the American people don't trust their own government anymore, Government has become this "thing" that we have to deal with in a sense its more of burden than its worth, it just gets in our way, steals our money, and clogs up our day, 20% of the domestic economy is jobs keeping the government from robbing you.

An example would be in NY State, they just send out trivial tax papers, no proof of owed taxes, no nothing they just say "you owe" and they give you no recourse to prove otherwise, you simply "owe the state money" for no reason, no reasons stated, if you have a little bit of money in the bank in NY  , you have probably seen some of these erroneous taxes before, an entire industry has formed just to make sure government doesn't abuse its power and issue fraudulent tax bills. . . . thats not a productive economy, thats like white blood cells fighting other white bloodcells, its very counter productive.

The whole point of government was it was supposed to collect money and act like our immune system , to do the jobs no one has time for, non-productive yet essential jobs like garbage collection, no one wants to drive their garbage to the dump, so we all donate a little$ to employ full time people to drive the garbage to the dump, the problem is, the idiots in government think they can branch out and start taking over productive parts of the economy, which it will simply fail at.

I diagree respectfully especially item 5 in your list.  When the politicians, at the behest of the international bankers no doubt, chose to follow Milton Friedmans' economic theories in the late 60's thru to today, the industrial strength of country started disintegrating with commercial electronics manufacturing disappearing in 70's to japan (why them?), derivatives were allowed on a case by case basis in the 80's thru waivers of the law (crime) and the beginning of financialization of the country started in earnest... then it was all accelerated by Clinton and Rubin (with Newt's undying loyalty to the bankers as well) in the 90's with trade 'agreements' which have little to do with any sane trade balance but more for corporate IP and market 'protection' as they abandon their country of origin (works great for trying to hide monetary inflation while job markets in the US disintegrate and corporate profits increase (cheap labor, same price) thru to today where the ponzi is wavering around in the wind like a deck of cards with the money masters trying to keep it from blowing over.  The fatal flaw is allowing fraud and corruption to go unpunished severely, instead they punish everyone else trying to maintain a ponzi scheme with severe monetary polciy abuse.  Trade was always supposed to be about preserving a nation's sovereignty and prosperity but enable other countries to participate, not destroying it...by failing to pay the slaves in those cheap labor markets meaningfully they pierced the achilles heel of their schemes... they destroyed the markets domestically and abroad.  That's what greed and corruption does.  It is biblical in a sense "Woe to those rich people who failed to pay the workers who sowed their fields  ..."

@dre4dwolf

Why should anyone care?

Because you can do better than that. That’s why.

Yes, taxes are high, yet, if you take the time to do a little research, there are ways to offset income with investments, expenses, etc. The leeches who are now living on the tax dole will not fare well when that dole no longer exists or is severely curtailed. You won’t be getting an argument on the fact that high taxes are bad. Or that government is way too big. Or that government is even required or desired.

But here’s the hard truth-  no one owes anyone any standard of living. Just because a generation or two got used to a certain standard of living does not guarantee that standard of living for that person’s entire lifetime, nor to future generations. Living sustainably within one’s means is far better. Rather than bemoan the fading of the middle class, embrace the inevitable change that is occurring and find ways to exploit it. And prepare to survive it. Those who survived the Great Depression-  they passed on first hand knowledge of what it was like to survive it to many who were willing to listen and remember and apply as necessary.  They didn’t waste time bemoaning “the way things were.” Rather, they adjusted to their circumstances, improvised, adapted, and made it through. Some of the important lessons they passed on:

-know the right people (honest ones with absolute, rather than relativist morals).

-Never rely on drugs or alcohol- faith in God will get you through tough times, persevere in all things

-Be fair and just in your dealings with everyone- no matter how you feel about them, never cut corners

-Compliment others frequently, boost their morale, getting rich isn’t the objective, the workman deserves his wages.

Those are the facts as I learned them.

Honest men do honest, hard, smart work because it’s the right thing to do. A man is not measured by his possessions, but in his character, moral strength, humility and selflessness.  The former can’t be taken with you and is temporary in nature, while the latter endures forever and is yours to keep. It is what you become.

Everyone has the choice: wish it’ll get better, or keenly observe and prepare for the inevitable.

As for  the 1% -TPTB- every dog has its day. But I’m not a dog, so I won’t stoop to their level.

“The liberator who destroys my property is fighting to save my spirit. The teacher who clears all possessions from my path will set me free.”  -TD

Exactly, its a form of apathy in a sense.

People have no stake in the success of the business that employs them.

We have moved from an economy where, a boss would hire 3~5 people to HELP HIM SUCCEED to an economy where, we just run low wage workers through the system with high turn-over to keep the money machine turning for a hand-full of people/+ to generate taxes for a defunct government/banking system.

We need to return to a system, where dirt under your nails and aches in your back actually are profitable ventures again.

Givea fucking incentive to work and build a future instead of scrounging about trying to get a pice of an ever decreasing pie.

The loss of wealth must have drove him to drink and an early demise though he didn't lose everything, he never recovered. My father did fine throughout his life retiring as a international trade expert based out of Chicago. He warned me about trade deficits, that they were bad signs for the economy, which no one seems to care about, or understand, these days. See The United States of Incompetence":

Carey, a Philadelphia journalist, examines America's declining morals, family life, education, quality of goods and services, and work ethic, asserting that we are all "drowning in a sea of incompetence." He defines incompetence as an individual failure of will, a conscious decision not to do what ought to be done, not to try, and not to take the extra steps necessary to bring about excellent results. Among the culprits responsible for this sorry state of affairs, Carey singles out television, which has assumed the traditional parental role in giving children a moral compass; poorly trained public school teachers who are unable to teach students raised on MTV and sitcoms; labor unions that protect lazy and incompetent workers; and the diminishing sense of community that makes shared values passe.

It may be laziness, but laziness born from what? Two thoughts come to mind:

1. The Hawthorne Works study ... if paying attention to people (both positive and negative) motivates them then also the opposite is true. Those in charge have done a very good job of propagandizing the concept that only a handful of people in the whole world matter and everyone else does not matter. We are told that any worker can be replaced by automation or the Chinese. The opposite of LOVE is not hate. It is apathy.

2. Value creating work and craftsmanship are not appreciated. In a world where fiat debt-money is more important than the value created to earn it, it is no wonder that welfare and its cousin "financialization" are thought to be perfectly acceptable methods of gaining the fiat required to live.

The answer to that question is simple.  It's me!  I am the guy who runs this ZH website.

I do not belong to any political party or any political organization.  But that does not mean that I am "non-partisan" or "in the middle".

I also do not believe that the world is about to end.  I do not believe that at all.  In fact, I believe that the coming economic collapse is going to unfold over a number of years.  This is something that I have said repeatedly.

Other than this site, I have two primary websites that I write for...

-The American Dream

-The Truth

Almost everyone will find something in my articles that will deeply upset them.  That is okay.  I am a truthseeker.  I just call it like I see it.  If you disagree with me on some issues I will not be offended.  I hope that you will not be offended if I disagree with you on some issues.

If you want to know what I believe, just ask me.  There are some people out there that are trying to associate me with all kinds of weird beliefs and theories.  If you come across a site that has basic facts about me totally wrong, you can pretty much assume that everything else they are saying about me is wrong.  People who go around slandering others should be ashamed.

One of the things that you should know about me is that I put a very high priority on love.  Even though I write about a lot of heavy issues, hopefully I am doing it with a loving heart.  If we want to make it through the times that are coming we have got to start learning how to love one another.

The world is becoming a very cold, cruel place. It sure could use a lot more love.

Another thing that you should know about me is that I am a Christian.  And I am one of those Christians that actually believes the Bible, and there are a lot of people out there that don't like people like that.

I believe that God loves us very much and that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to this earth to die on the cross for our sins.  For much more on this, please see this article.

I get a ton of email, so please do not be upset if I am unable to respond right away.

I recently completed my first novel which is entitled "The Beginning Of The End".  It is available on Amazon.com in paperback and for the Kindle.

If you like the work that I do, I hope that you will support it by picking up a copy of the book and several copies for friends and family members.

If you don't like the work that I do, then you probably won't like the novel either.

So what is the book about?  The following is from the back cover...

The Beginning of the End is the first novel by Michael T. Snyder, the publisher of The Economic Collapse Blog. If you want to know what things in America are going to look like in a few years, you need to read this book. The Beginning of the End is a mystery/thriller set in the United States in the near future. It is a time of unprecedented economic collapse, deep political corruption, accelerating social decay, out of control rioting in the cities and great natural disasters. In the midst of all of this chaos, a former CIA agent, a respected financial reporter and a blogger that takes his prepping to extremes all find themselves dropped into the middle of an ancient conflict between two shadowy international organizations. The three of them are absolutely horrified to discover that one of those shadowy international organizations is planning to hit New York City with the largest terror attack in U.S. history. The goal is to throw the entire country into chaos, but who will get the blame? A series of incredibly shocking twists and turns ultimately culminates in a wild cross country chase that leads up to a surprising ending that most readers will not see coming.

A great storm is coming to America, and time is quickly running out. The Beginning of the End is a great book to give to anyone that is still not prepared for what is ahead. It is a wildly entertaining, fast-paced page-turner that is packed with an abundance of twists and turns that many readers will find difficult to put down, but it is also designed to communicate a tremendous amount of truth at the same time. This book is not just intended to entertain people - the explosive truths contained in this novel could literally change the world. If you have always felt a desire to be a part of something bigger than yourself, or if you are just a fan of great apocalyptic fiction, then you definitely should read The Beginning of the End. We are moving into the most unstable time in all of human history, and cataclysmic changes are coming. This is one book that will help you get prepared for what is ahead.

You can find much more about my new book right here.  It also has 75 five star reviews which you can read right here.

In the end, I am just a regular guy that loves God, that loves his family and that loves America.

Hopefully what I have written here will set the record straight.

It's fine to voice your opinion, but you need not be so touchy.

Take a deep breath and be at peace with yourself.

The fact is that 99.99% of people won't be able to do what he did. It does not have to do with hard work, but survivorship bias and luck.

The OP is correct - anyone who does not have his pile by age 50 is hosed. I bailed on North America at age 47.

Fortunately The Young now know that they have to get it all done by age 39 to 45, because they will be let go if they reach 50.

Getting a greeter position at WalMart is now a dream job in the USA.

Americans have been taught to believe they can live large - that all it takes is hard work - but the reality is that they have a better chance of success by buying lottery tickets - i.e. almost NO chance.

But the elites tell them - if you are not rich and living large that is YOUR fault - you are a piece of shit weakling.

The elites also tell them - unless you live large you are a failure in life i.e. it is all about how much money you earn (or in the case of bankers - steal) - it is about how much shit you buy - how big your house is - how much of an asshole you are (see Donald Trump the icon of what success looks and acts like)

What effect do these messages have on people?  Of course they are fucking pissed off - WHY AM I NOT RICH - what is WRONG WITH ME????  Why am I such a fucking loser?

Which of course would lead to lethargy and depression --- and why would they work hard at their dead end job that pays fuckall?

In a Gallop Research last year over 70% of working Americans.... either actively hated their fuckin' job or passively didn't give a shit about it.

The other 30% "Highly" or "Very Highly" "enjoyed anal probing".

Live in a cardboard box under a bridge, or be a slave and hate your life.

It just keeps getting funnier..every..day.

My hint is that the workers are less inclined to work since the employers have been so clear that we are their sheeple and that they can hire us, fire us, pay us bad and treat us bad when they want. They dont care, they are corporations. Who wants to be loyal in that case? "some are pretending to pay wages and the others are pretending to work".

""When you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing - When you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors - When you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you - When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice - You may know that your society is doomed." -- Ayn Rand, "Atlas Shrugged", 1957"

This is a complex issue, actually.  However, a few aspects of this issue seem fairly simple.  For example...

If performing work for an individual, do what you promise, if not more, better, faster.

If performing work for a basically honest small company, you are almost working for an individual, and thus also do what you promise, if not more, better, faster.

If performing work for a large corporation... check out the nature of that corporation.  If you find that you work for one of the few corporations who are honest, hire no lobbyists, contribute to no campaigns, and take advantage of ZERO unfair government regulations... keep your eyes open, but for the time being, do what you promise, if not more, better, faster.

For any other large corporation, one that is not honest with customers or employees, or lobbies for favors or special treatment or corporate welfare or special treatment... then you have no obligation to them.  For sure, you don't want to destroy your own reputation, but otherwise understand they are predators, and deserve NO considerations whatsoever.  They treat others like predators, and thus deserve to be treated as predators too.

For anything government... it is inherently predatory, and thus anything goes, with the same considerations as the previous category.

However, you do need to keep your mind active and consider every action before you take that action.  For example, if you work for the USPS and are delivering a product to an individual... seriously... don't damage the freaking package.  Why?  Because you may harm an honest, innocent, productive, benevolent individual, not the predators you work for.  QUIT working for government is the best solution.

The photo of the mid term exam appears to have been carefully taken to eliminate the possibility it's been photoshopped, thus increasing suspicion that it has been. Notice the position of the thumb and the way the shadows are on the paper. Whether it's photoshopped or not is irrelevant, hence it's unlikely to be. No evidence of it having been submitted to a teacher or marked is provided, anyone can fill out an exam and write A- on it in red ink and photo it. It's really a classic magician's trick to distract people's attention with one hand to hide what the other is doing. It definitely looks like the work of a bored college or high school student, similar things have been floating around on the internet since time began, the work of pranksters. I've of given the mid term exam a "B" myself if I'd been marking it just for showing the guts to submit it if not for providing a great moment of comic relief. So the first example of carelessness/sloth is almost certainly bogus.

"What is undeniable, on the other hand, is that..."

Well yes it is deniable. This whole posting is deniable, filled with unexamined statements of doubtful value. The ancient greek philosophers were complaining about the increasing degeneracy and sloth of youth. There's nothing new in our world, all this article really adds up to can be summed up in a sentence or less.

The population has increased, the economy has shrunk, people are miserable (in more ways than one)

Society must find a better way to distribute labor and the rewards of labor. This would give more people a path to finding real and fulfilling work. The cost of inequality is taking a toll on our culture. Robots and new technology have streamlined and increased productivity and at the same time eliminated many jobs. Big business is good for big business but not necessarily for the masses.

Consolidation often means a gain in efficiency, but this often comes at the cost of losing diversity and a "robustness" to both society and the economy. The benefits of efficiency sometimes have a huge hidden cost, How the fruits of labor are divided is important, this includes not just the wage deserved by a common laborer, but how much CEO's, those in management, and those that can't, or choose not to work, receive. While we have become far more efficient in producing goods, all people should in their lifetime contribute to the good of society and the economic pie.  More on this subject in the article below.

"Real and fulfilling work"???  Most people are lazy, untalented, and ignorant so there is no real and fulfilling work for them.  They are fulfilled by sleeping and at most spectating people doing work.  These are the same people that have menial jobs and do them poorly but yet you see them in mid-range restaurants berating the waitstaff that is doing their menial jobs poorly.

There are only two choices.

Trade your work / time as free men.

Be slaves and slave masters.

Either you chose, or someone else chooses for you.

That is the bottom line.
