President Obama Declares Obamacare Enrollment Victory - Live Feed

Tyler Durden's picture

According to The White House, 7,041,000 people have signed up for Obamacare (though it's unclear how many have paid as of yet and what the mix of enrolees actually is). While this will be proclaimed as mission accomplished and spun for all it's worth, wasn't Obamacare supposed to reduce the ranks of the 45 million uninsured in America? Still, it seems like a long way to go to meet CBO projections, as WaPo notes, "the CBO and Joint Congressional Committee on Taxation in February projected that 13 million previously uninsured people would gain coverage in 2014." We suspect the President will be over the moon and blame Republicans, Twitter, and YouTube for the number not being higher...

This shit isn't about actual numbers of paying enrollees, its about what this shit has been about since day one with these guys, getting AS MANY U.S. Citizens on the Federal government welfare system and entitlement systems.....PERIOD!

7 million more people, that regardless of what their personal politics are, will now be "invested" in the system continuing the handouts. payouts, and subsidies!!

Its like all those videos on youtube of Tea Party supporters at rallies, saying they want the Federal Government to get their hands off their SS checks or medicare, etc. Or the guy who said, he hates the Federal government, but when they asked him if he gets unemployement or disability, he snaps back, "what the fuck does that got to do with it, they aint no jobs, what the fuck do you want me to do, of course i get it!"

Its a socialist society now, no bones about it, stock market is rigged, FX is rigged, commodities are not priced from any market mechanisms, private jobs are guaranteed by government, and a growing number are just straight government now, half the society is on some type of welfare or entitlement program, police state is in full effect, but thank fucking god, Baseball season is back and the Voice is getting ready to kickoff!

Matrix shit now friends, we are living in the fucking Matrix now! Dont try to unplug or the guys in suits are right around the corner!

The guidelines seem very "generous" to me... of course it's not really Obama's money to be giving away.

People get government rebates on health insurance up to 400% of the Federal Poverty Level. They get additional reductions in cost sharing at 250% of the Federal Poverty Level. I think Medicaid kicks in at 138% of the Federal Poverty Level, and the CHIP program kicks in closer to the 400% level I believe.

Much/most of the reason for the ridiculous number of "no-pays" is due to the ridiculous way the system is set up. I spoke with a health insurance broker a few days ago who was pulling her hair out about how the system was still running.

She had clients that she had helped sign up for policies, but who had never received any kind of confirmation that they were enrolled nor any kind of bill. She would call the insurance companies, but they had no record of having ever received the enrollment applications. She called everyone else she could get ahold of but no one had any record of anything. She was told it wasn't a problem, that they had probably passed it along to Medicaid or CHIP, the government run Children's Health Insurance Pool to see if they were eligible for government aid.

The broker said that it had already been weeks since it was originally submitted, however, and no one had any record of the applications, nor any way of determining if they were lost in the system somewhere, or just tooling along in one of the government computers somewhere waiting to be processed. That's obviously nerver wracking for the consumers, of course, especially after hearing the stories like the guy in Las Vegas stuck with $407,000 in bills despite having signed up months before his heart attack.

Yes, it's both sad and absurd at the same time. Why the people aren't asked to pay up front is beyond me, particularly since they can't be rejected for health reasons anyway. Many of them are literally begging for a bill. They want to pay but can't.

It's even more absurd that the information submitted is immediately lost to everyone involved. No one knows what happens to it, not the customer, not the agent or navigator who signed them up, not the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (not sure how they came up with an acronym of CMS for that agency) and certainly not the insurance companies, doctors or hospitals who are supposed to be providing the medical care allegedly contracted for.

What a mess.

So here's my rant for the day as I was just waiting for this bullshit to hit the airwaves.

- Obamacare, Today: 7 million signed up but 4 million lost coverage last year when the old plans terminated. I was one of those that lost coverage as Aetna sent me the FO letter. So with 45 million uninsured and net a net of 4.5 million signed up (7 million less 2.5 million that lost but let's assume 1.5 million got continued coverage as their carriers extended their plans), that amounts to just 10% of the target. And this is a success. What a fucking joke.

- Obamacare, in One Year: Let's place our bets now. Everyone in the industry, and I do mean everyone I'm speaking to, is expecting 25 to 50% rate hikes next year. As so duly noted, the current year rate is the biggest "teaser" rate in the history of the US. But the rate hikes will not just be for the poor Obamacare enrollees as all small businesses that are making an effort to offer health insurance are going to get hammered. I work in this space and the fear looking forward is extreme.

The success or failure (which I'm expecting) is not measured in whether the website is functioning or not or how many people enrolled. The ulitimate success will be whether the program offers an economically viable solution, over the long run, to a major problem in the US. My money is squarely on no as once the mix of enrollees is known, premiums aren't paid, deductibles of thousands of dollars not paid (given the fact that most enrollees will not be able to pay these), service providers continue to leave in droves due to low reimbursements, etc., etc., etc., this program will hit a major wall in 2015 (as 2014 being an election year will ensure the problems are not publicly presente). I have no doubt that the  ACA/Obamacare will go down as the worst piece of federal legislation, ever!

But to further my enjoyment today, we learned that GM has been and will always be a company full of immoral and unethical crooks (based on the recall issues that are blowing up) as they brought in a lady to be the sacrificial lamb. The markets are so rigged that those that believe they aren't rigged can't even produce a viable defense. And that Cat is being applauded for leveraging the tax code, for no other purpose than to avoid taxes, to save a couple of billion dollars.

I'm beginning to think that I'm the one that is insane for thinking that the US political and financial systems actually have any degree or level of morality or ethics left. Actually, I believe I'm the one that is insane as I'm doing the same thing each morning, over and over - Waking up and hoping that this nightmare finally comes to an end and ethics and morals will return. This is the definition of insanity. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Tue, 04/01/2014 - 16:46 | 4615018 centerline
centerline's picture

Your not insane.  Just trapped in the system like the rest of us.

Nice rant.  I am curious to see what happens next year myself in terms of insurance.  My firm changed carriers a few years ago to a plan that is compliant.  The rate increase this year was relatively tame.  I can't imagine the next renewal is going to go so well.  Our margins are pretty thin and we really can't take any more hits without reducing staff, cutting pay, lowering benefits, etc.

You won't have to wait till next year to find out what is going to happen. The shit is going to hit the fan this summer with 0zer0care. I have been preaching it for months, so I will do so again. All this POLITICAL posturing just shows how completely out of touch everyone in DC really is. In a few months, this will go from Political to Financial in a BIG way. Everyone knows the 7 million is bogus. But the real problem with 0zer0care is the risk pools have been obliterated. This is because no young invincibles are signing up, only old and sick. The insurance companies, who NOW have to cover EVERYONE, are going to be the ones stuck with the losses from these distorted risk pools. Already, there have been articles from insurance execs saying premiums are going to rise, substantially. All this will be known in a few months as the insurers get the final tallies on who actually has insurance, and HAS PAID. That will all be rolled up into the insurance companies financials this summer.

That's when it gets interesting, because the insurance companies wrote 0zer0care, and so they inserted a bailout provision in it that allows them to be re-imbursed for these losses. So this summer, they will demand their bailout, and 0zer0 will give it to them. If 0zer0 doesn't, the insurance companies will sue, and win, because they have standing, and contract law presidence is on their side. No way 0zer0 takes the chance of losing a lawsuit, because that means 0zer0care unravels piecemeal in the courts. so 0zer0 will bail out the insurance companies. When that hits the headlines, the uproar is going to epic.

But it gets better. The bailout only addresses losses already incurred, not future losses. With the risk pools being obliterated, this means the insurance companies will still have to raise rates by double digit percentages in anticipation of future losses. This will include EMPLOYER plans, and this gem will hit in Sept to meet the 90 day WARN notification for changes to employee benefit programs that start 1/1/2015. This means that employers will have to raise rates double digits, or eliminate employer plans all together to cut costs. Either way, there are going to be about 50 million people affected just before the midterms, and that is going to make the uproar last fall when 5 million people lost their insurance look like a picnic. The dumbcrats have no idea what a shitstorm is coming at them. They and the Repukes are all battling this from a POLITICAL perspective, when it clearly is an ECONOMIC disaster that is barreling down the tracks at runaway speed. And there is nothing anyone can do about it. No 0zer0 Executive Order is going to solve this, not even delaying the employer mandate. That's because the financials are driving this disaster now. No Executive Order can stop the premium increases that are coming. This monster is a virus killing the host. The Repukes should have cut off the funding for it when they had the chance. It's only going to get worse from here. Plan accordingly.

Sort of off topic but we since he has fallen off the radar.

Recently, Dr. Sadek Raouf Ebeid, whose articles we have published in the past, appeared on a prominent Egyptian television program for nearly 20 minutes to discuss the case of Malik Obama. While there has essentially been both a mainstream and conservative media blackout in America on this scandal, it has captured the attention of tens of millions of Egyptians.

Prominent Arabic newspaper Al-Wafd also picked up on Ebeid’s interview (translated):

Sadek Raouf Ebeid, an Egyptian doctor in the U.S., implored the U.S. Congress to investigate the scandal involving Malik Obama, the brother of U.S. President Obama, saying that by providing Malik’s organization with American taxpayer dollars, the American people are also aiding Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.

Ebeid, in a televised interview via telephone, said he had notified members of the U.S. Congress that according to the laws of the U.S., Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir is a war criminal, and is prohibited from entering the United States and that because Malik provides material support to al-Bashir, he too qualifies as an enemy combatant / terrorist.

The doctor pointed out that the U.S. authorities have overlooked the laws as they apply to the U.S. president’s brother.

During the interview, Ebeid challenged the U.S. Embassy in Egypt to dispute any of the four allegations he brought forth. In the live interview, hosted by a very well known newscaster in Egypt, Dr. Naeela Emara, Ebeid was asked to lay out the allegations. Emara adopted Ebeid’s public challenge, herself calling on a spokesman from the Embassy to make a statement in response to Ebeid’s claims.

Ebeid’s allegations were as follows:

  1. That President / General Omar Al-Bashir of Sudan is classified by the current White House and State Department as an enemy combatant and was denied an entry visa to the U.S. for posing a threat to America’s national interest and its homeland security.
  2. Malik Obama works for one of Al-Bashir’s largest organizations.
  3. Ebeid referred to the Military Commissions Act (MCA) of 2006, amended in 2009. This law deems anyone who provides an enemy combatant with material support, qualifies as an enemy combatant himself, even if he did not pick up arms against the U.S. himself. This would make Malik Obama an enemy combatant.
  4. Malik Obama’s Barack H. Obama Foundation (BHOF) was granted 501(c)(3) status to collect money from unwitting U.S. taxpayers, under false pretenses (EIN# 262461343). This status was granted by former IRS official, Lois Lerner. Both Ebeid and Emara highlighted the fact that the BHOF received its status on a Sunday (June 26, 2011). In the interview, Emara sarcastically stated that Lerner obviously, “…opened the office on a Sunday morning to give Malik what he wants.”

Considering that State Department spokesman Marie Harf admitted to continuing dialogue with the Muslim Brotherhood (a terrorist listed organization now by the GCC which includes Saudi Arabia) in Egypt, the Obama administration is showing no signs of engaging in this scandal publicly.

Also as a reminder Malik's ties to funding Hamas another terrorist organization...

Worth pointing out since it brings more color to the IRS, Lois Lerner, Obama and his brother Malik and terrorist funding.

Malik’s IDO is part of a Coalition of Islamic Organizations (CIO) which also includes the Islamic Society in Gaza, a Hamas front organization founded by Hamas terror leader Sheikh Yassin and headed by Hamas Prime Minister / terror leader Ismail Haniyeh who was its president for almost ten years.

Besides Malik’s Islamic Da’wa Organization, other members of the Coalition the Islamic Organizations (CIO) are involved in the funding as well, like the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), Commission for Humanitarian Relief – Syndicate doctors Egypt. Other websites throughout the years have advertised the call to aid [here] and [here]. On a side note, Malik attended events for the World Assembly for Muslim Youth (WAMY) [1] [2] [3]. This involves his other IRS illegally approved (back-dated 38 months by Lois Lerner) Barack H. Obama Foundation (BHOF) future cooperation with WAMY. BHOF’s tax-exempt status was approved after Lerner was asked to investigate the foundation.

This type of funding is also used to funnel donations to send weapons and explosives to Hamas as was promoted by several terror forums [here] and [here] asking to fund purchasing “Kalashnikovs” “RPGs” “TNT” “missiles” “Al-Banna bombers …”

And as an aside that IDO is run out of and an official arm of the Sudanese government a country that is listed as a terrorist state by the State Department.

7 million, or even the reduced 6 million enrollees is not at all likely to happen. According to recent data — not from the administration, naturally — has 23% not paying for the first monthly premium. Of the remainder, 5% have not paid for the second month. And making allowances for the inaccuracies, duplications, do-overs, appeals, etc. of the administration’s policy selection number, it seems safe to say that actual enrollees will be between 50% and 70% of th administration’s much touted numbers. So if the administration claims 7 million, the actual number is likely to be between 3.5 million on the low end, and 4.9 million on the high end.

That number, whatever it is finally, will fall still further if premiums rise from their current unaffordable level by 20%, which some commentators say is likely, as healthy customers view the crappy policies as not worth the money, given the deductibles, co-pays and co-insurance… This will leave the mostly ill in the program, which would be the death spiral.

Everyone standing and clapping either has employee paid insurance or has a pre-existing condition.  Not one of them pays for their own directly (like me as a single entity small business owner) or is young and healthy (also like me).  My insurance, like millions of others, would triple in price if I CHOSE to buy it on the exchange...the last time I went to the doctor was 4 years ago, and I am putting the savings I get from my catostrophic plan and not needing a doctor into an account to eventually pay my $5,000 high deductible "catastrophic" insurance if I ever need to use it.  I want a higher deductible and lower premiums and obamacare does not offer that.  I could potentially get behind a "non-droppable" requirement for insurances to handle the conditions and such that do pop up and insurance is supposed to cover, but I do not support paying more to support others, many who have bad habits.

It's time we start treating insurance like insurance not prepaid medical.  I am sick of all the subsidies and taxes I pay in the middle class.

Did anyone expect under any circumstance at all that Obama may come out and say they failed?

If it turns out later that fewer people are insured now than in 2013 or 2012, will this still be a "success"?

If it turns out later that premiums paid by these so-counted 7m turn out to be less than 4M, will this still be a "success"?

If it turns out later that the percentage of new enrollees under 35 is less than 30%, will this still be a "success"?

If it turns out that Insurance companies will need to be bailed out, will this still be a "success"?

If it turns out when Obamacare is fully applied to all employees (as of this date its after Obama leaves office), and insurance premiums rocket out of range of the majority of Americans, will this still be a "success"?

Are any of the above scenarios less important than the number of enrollees the administration is basing "success" on?

7 million simply represents those that were uninsurable or who now qualify for big subsidies + those gullible enough to sign up.

There are millions more out there that aren't signing up... and they represent the bulk of resources required by the ACA to function financially.

Essentially, the ACA is already bankrupt.

Health insurance is NOT health care.

While a small minority have been able to obtain some new insurance, the ticking time bomb is affording the premium and of course the insane deductibles that will put anyone in bankruptcy.

My neighbor, a retired vet no less, had his heart meds sky-rocket because of all the new insurance fun and games.

The insidious element though is this government sponsored system is about building a killing-floor for the poor, sick and elderly.

I guess the Nazis really did win the war.

It is genocide, compliments of the political class that do not want any more competition.  They will be killing the old and the lame in the same way they abort all those little black boys and girls.

For those that drank Obama's and the Democratic Party's cyanide kool-aid, just wait until you or your parents try to actually receive "care."

The game is still the same.  Collect all the premiums and be stringy on the payouts.

The Killing Joke.

And in the never let a self inflicted DDOS attack go to waste to salvage a turd department.

It ain't over till it's over.

Monday was the last day to sign up for health insurance with NY State of Health for coverage this year to avoid a federal tax penalty.

But the state on Friday decided to extend the enrollment period to April 15 for those people who tried to apply for health insurance by the March 31 deadline but were unable to do so through no fault of their own.

Where have we heard that one before? Think snake oil salesmen selling diet pills to fat slobs on the Tee Vee. It is never your fault, never your fault, never your fault, never your fault, never.........

Meanwhile, the federal website, which also has extended its deadline to April 15 for similar reasons, crashed several times Monday due to "record traffic" of 1.6 million visits before 2 p.m. The state's website was operating normally, with only "minor delays," the state said.

"The NY State of Health site is experiencing 6,500-7,000 simultaneous users in the Web portal today, which represents its highest activity to date," the state said in a statement Monday.

Donna Frescatore, executive director of NY State of Health, said the exchange was "committed" to making sure those who "have taken steps to apply before April 1, 2014," can enroll.

Acceptable reasons to the state for extending the deadline include identity issues, technological issues or customer service delays.

Certifying his identity was the issue for Marvin Mora of Port Washington. The maintenance worker originally from Guatemala said it took him five hours early Monday to get to the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council in Hauppauge -- designated as a "navigator" agency for enrollees -- due to the snow.

He said, via an interpreter, that his insurance through his job had been canceled, that he had phoned the state's call line to sign up and that he thought he was going to get paperwork in the mail but it never came.

Mora, 44, was told Monday that because he's in the process of applying to become a legal resident, it would take time to confirm his identity -- but it would be completed by April 15.

That brought total enrollment in New York as of Sunday to 812,033 since the exchange's opening on Oct. 1. Of those enrollees, more than 70 percent were previously uninsured  (and currently non-residents), the state said.

Our 3 chief weapons of extending the deadline are identity issues, technological issues, customer service delays and qualifying live events. Our 4 chief weapons of extending the deadline......

With the exception of those individuals who tried but were unable to enroll before Monday's deadline, only those individuals and families who have a "qualifying live event" -- such as getting married or divorced, gaining a dependent, losing job insurance, or moving to the state -- could still enroll for coverage in 2014. Others without insurance face a penalty. The penalty this year is either 1 percent of one's yearly household income or $95 per person, whichever is higher.
