Ukraine Loses State Buildings In Key Eastern Cities To Protesters; Blames Putin - Live Webcast

Tyler Durden's picture

Earlier this morning we reported that "Pro-Russia Protesters Seize Government Building In East Ukraine, Demand Autonomy." We suggested that this was only the first city in eastern Ukraine that would see this kind of internal revolt. Sure enough, hours later, the largest city in East Ukraine and one located in close proximity to Russia, Kharkiv, also saw its state building fall to what appear to be pro-Russia protesters, making it the third major city after Donetsk and nearby Luhansk. This coordinated and largely unexpected pro-Russian action triggering accusations from the pro-European government in Kiev that President Vladimir Putin was orchestrating "separatist disorder."

From Reuters:

Ukraine's Interior Minister Arsen Avakov accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of being behind the seizure of state buildings by pro-Russia protesters in eastern Ukraine on Sunday and promised that police would restore order peacefully.

He also accused Ukraine's ousted president Viktor Yanukovich of conspiring with Putin to fuel tensions in the region.

Earlier, pro-Russian protesters demanding a referendum on whether to join Russia seized a regional government building in the city of Donetsk and the offices of security services in nearby Luhansk.

"Putin and Yanukovich ordered and paid for the latest wave of separatist disorder in the east of the country. The people who have gathered are not many but they are very aggressive," Avakov said in a statement on his Facebook page.

"The situation will come back under control without bloodshed. That is the order to law enforcement officers, it's true. But the truth is that no one will peacefully tolerate the lawlessness of provocateurs," he said.

As expected, Kiev is scrambling to restore the semblance that it is under control, which as we noted earlier, it isn't:

Acting President Oleksander Turchinov called an emergency meeting of security chiefs in Kiev and took personal control of the situation, the parliamentary press service said.

The problem for Kiev is that suddenly the scramble for a referendum is reminiscent of what happened in Crimea. And everyone knows how that ended. Which means the acting government has to promptly halt the momentum toward sovereign independence or else East Ukraine is about to become a separate country, if not the latest annexation success for Russia.

Around 1,500 people protested in Donetsk on Sunday before breaking into the regional administration building, where they hung a Russian flag from a second-floor balcony, a Reuters witness said. Protesters outside cheered and chanted "Russia! Russia!".

In the Luhansk protest, Ukrainian television said three people had been injured. Police could not confirm the report. Talking to the crowd over a loudspeaker, protest leaders in Donetsk said they wanted regional lawmakers to convene an emergency meeting to discuss a vote on joining Russia like the one in Ukraine's Crimea region that led to its annexation.

"Deputies of the regional council should convene before midnight and take the decision to carry out a referendum," one of the protest leaders said, without identifying himself.

A local Internet portal streamed footage from the seized building, showing people entering and exiting freely. Soviet-era music was being played over loudspeakers outside. The building houses the offices of Serhiy Taruta, a steel baron recently appointed by the interim government in Kiev as governor of a region with close economic and historical ties to Russia.

"Around 1,000 people took part (in the storming of the building), mostly young people with their faces covered," said Ihor Dyomin, a spokesman for Donetsk local police. "Around 100 people are now inside the building and are barricading the building," he added.

News of the mini coups quickly spread like wildfire across tiwtter and YouTube.

But the scariest news came moments ago from the Twitter account of Konstantin Rykov, who reported that the Russian troops in Rostov have just been put on military alert. We have not seen any independent confirmation anywhere else but this would be a very serious escalation in the superficial detente between Russia and the West via its proxy regime in Kiev.

For those who want to follow events as they unfold, here is a live webcast from Kharkiv:

The majority of people living there ARE Russian! They have always been. They're not immigrants, or russians paid to pretend to live there.
That's the reality some here don't seem to grasp.
There's no peaceful solution now but to split up Ukraine.
But.. the people of the EU itself might want some say in the matter, and demand some BINDING referendum as well. To secede from the increasingly nepotist EU elite.
So, TPTB will do anything to label this as a russian ploy only. While it's only partially that.
Great strategy, neo-cons... banksters. (not)
Every action has a reaction. You should've left Ukraine alone, as a mixed western-eastern country. It was great, it would've been great. Assholes.

2. Obama and Kerry-Kohn?

3. Nudelman's State Dept./El See Eye AhhDa - where they throw disgruntled employees off the roof?

Turkey behind Sarin attacks in Syria.

http://www.moonofalabama.org/

Hersh: Turkey Behind Sarin Attacks In Syria

Last December Seymour Hersh wrote that the CIA knew that Jabhat al-Nusra, al-Qaeda affiliated fundamentalists in Syria, were capable of producing Sarin and were likely the ones who used it last August in Ghouta near Damascus. The U.S. then claimed that the Syrian government had used the lethal gas and Obama threatened an all out air attack against it. Obama stopped the operation and went to Congress which denied to sanction any attack.

HERE is what Benghazi is really about:

Hersh now has a new piece out that goes much deeper into the issue. According to his sources:

  • In 2012 the CIA build a rat-line to provide weapons from Libya via Turkey to the Syrian insurgents.
  • That rat-line was stopped by the CIA after the attack on the U.S. "consulate" in Benghazi but the Turks continued to run it on their own.

Remember the last person the USA ambassador (aka CIA agent) met with a Turkish ambassador before the consulate was attacked.   Total coverup by the USA govt.

Note that some of the posters on moon of Alabama point out that Hersh often gets his info from the alphabet agencies.  This may be the agency that throws employees off the roof in VA trying to shft the blame to Turkey.  Hersh apparently is a disinformation artist since Operation Phoenix in Vietnam.  He is fed info from the agency where people fall off the building.

Yes, what was I thinking? Clearly there's some sort of moral equivalency between the government of the United States orchestrating coups in foreign lands thousands of miles away (or "replacing one government with another," as you so blithely call it) and local citizens in those same countries attempting to determine their own future.

As far as you being disappointed with ZH, I'm disappointed by the fact that you've been here three and a half years and you're still afflicted with Uncle Sam's rah-rah venereal disease. You should see if there's an ointment for that.

Whenever one is presented with a foolish argument, it helps to use an old Debating trick:  Reducto ad absurdum -- taking an argument to its logical extreme.

For example, if the US can recognize an illegimitate government coup (as happened in Kiev) as the "legitimate government", then the same would apply if a group of extremists were to take over the WH and the Capitol.

/ Cool!  Are there any groups like that around, so we too can... "stand on white vans and cheer the event"**?  /sarc

** Like some Foreign Agents did on 9/11/2001, but who were not sent to Gitmo, cause their US cousins had "major pull" in NY and DC.

He'd told the KSA to go pound sand about pacifying the Chechnyian rebels vs Security over the pipeline, told the West to go Fugemselves over the rearming of Iran over the pipleline
And knew that the remains of NATO was a folded paper airplane after the French had to ask the US to rearm their fighters after just 36 hours of action against Libya and fly every last single tin of foie gras* to their Legionnaires in Mali.

DC wou't let that happen for 2 reasons.
1.  CA is staunchly Democratic and the MainStream Establishment Republicans ain't got a chance of even taking a shit favorably in spite of Obie given that they're at war with their own political base.
2.  CA pays way the fuck more into the federal till than it collects.  Way the fuck more... as do all the other Big Blue States...

After losing Crimea, the next priority for the CIA/IMF/EU and their gangsters in Kiev is to secure the Don Basin. Seems the folks in this region though arent too keen on that happening....and who could blame them? Time for another referendum and leave the rump Ukraine to the tender mercies of Chevron, Monsanto, JPM et al.

The West's "Ukraine project" is falling apart.

The only remaining asset worth seizing is the South-East, which has the bulk of the country's industry and natural resources.

If this region chooses to vote for higher pensions, cheaper natgas and official status for their language, then the fiasco will be complete.

One of the most impressive was their bobsledding teams.   This expertise for decades has been Germans, Swiss, some Italians & Austrians.   The USA tried NASCAR technology years ago.  Then they teamed up with BMW and did better but the Russians romped.

The idea the West has been peddling was the Russians had cheezy technology.  Russian anti-tank,aircraft and ship missiles are state of the art.  Russian jet fighters are very good while American taxpayers have been robbed by $1 trillion plus on that F-35 turkey and the F-22 is not much better.

Russian ICBMs?  Probably the best.

There are no surprises here. This is the beginning of what will be larger and more frequent protests against the Kiev government, which by the way is illegal.

As these Ukrainians are now subjects of an illegal, unelected government, it is certainly grounds for protests, even if you don’t speak Russian.

The other unsurprising thing is the already written script of what officials in Kiev will say and the only surprise is for some to say that putting Russian troops on alert in their own country is “a very serious escalation.” When the troops go into Ukraine that will be “a very serious escalation,” and not before.

The bulletins, comments, and accusations coming forth from Kiev, faithfully reported by Reuters at every instance, are being made by an illegal government. What authority, for example, does the Kiev government have to use the name Ukraine in labeling an ousted elected president a criminal?

Here’s Arsen Avakov:

Reuters, February 24, 2014: Ousted Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych is wanted by police for mass murder, the acting interior minister, Arsen Avakov wrote on his profile Monday. "An official case for the mass murder of peaceful citizens has been opened.. Yanukovych and other people responsible for this have been declared wanted.”

The IMF's NATO president of Ukraine who never won an election to the post has vowed to go east and tell the people they have nothing to fear from West Ukrainian fascists, IMF bankers or the German masters who will soon be moving in to manage their new terrirtory. Nope Russians should get on board America's freedom train in Ukraine. Today the NATO government's death squads killed a right sector journalist, his totured body was found by west Ukrainian self defense forces. Witnesses saw the abduction by 4-5 thugs. You see, the right sector won the street battles, but now the IMF and NATO are in charge and they have highly paid death squads. This is playing out real well for the IMF, wait till west Ukrainians wake up to IMF reality.

Any sane East Ukrainian is going to want to rejoin mother Russia. As another poster noted, average income in Ukraine $300, average in Russia $800. Plus pensions are twice as high, and a Russian passport opens that whole vast nation up to where you want to seek work as a citizen. Are the Russians going to want to live under Zionism, NATOism, IMFism and all the other Bankerisms that the west now represents? An empire reaches peak power just as it is about to fold. Russia is betting on an EU and USA financial crisis pf epic proportions soon, followed by the IMF going nuts printing SDR's to feed liquidity to western banks and the western elites. The other 99% will be thrown to the dogs.

A recent international poll across the spectrum of nations asked "Which world leader do you admire most"? Obama picked up about 17%, David Cameron 2%, Mr. Putin was in the 70% range. Why is that, it didn't ask if yoi like them, it asked do you admire them. Anyone who stands up against the Banker take over of the world is going to get lots of votes.

Finally, if the IMF and NATO rulers of Ukraine start killing Russian demonstrators in the major Russian cities of East Ukraine, it will not stand! To quote Bush I.  Does NATO want nuclear war over a handful of mainly Russian cities? Given a vote, most of these cities would follow Crimea in a heartbeat. Where is the Right Sector when you need them? Being gunned down by IMF death squads??

Just like the Germans... fatherland
Or, alternatively, homeland.

Guess Department of Fatherland Security went a little too far across the propagandized edge, no?

Same as anything of unknown gender in the English language is properly termed He (male gender) as opposed to French where everything has a male or female designation...

Always interesting to see how folks react to those traditions in daily intercourse.  For example, may years ago the feminist movement had taken a hard position on "God" as being female, referencing as She which as improper in English.
But, whatever capsizes somebody else's boat for one's own ego, what?

I say Smedley, peace breaks out all over, I hear, what, with that new President of theirs, eh?

Powerful truth! Jack Burton.

QUOTE:

To many in the West, Putin is seen as a shining light and a beacon — one who will hopefully deliver the world from the evil clutches of the New World Order

The NWO-driven Americans and their Western allies have killed tens of millions in these coups, interventions, destabilization campaigns, and undeclared wars.

According to André Vltchek and Noam Chomsky’s book On Western Terrorism, the total number killed is over 50 million since World War II.

If we add to this the number of people tortured, brutalized, falsely imprisoned, forced to become refugees, or who had their lives ruined by Western terrorism, the number of victims reaches the hundreds of millions.

Today, the American terrorists and their NATO allies seem less interested in installing puppet governments than in reducing entire nations to chaos. -- Kevin Barrett, God Bless You, Mr. Putin

90% of the power of the USD FED FIAT to INFINITY comes from the US-MIL,

Since 1913 to make the USD king of the world how much did it cost? Over 100 Million lives.

But everybody in the USA got a cut of the action, and so all remained silent,

Me thinks when its restitution time, the world is going to slaughter the USA, like nothing seen in world history.

Kill a 100 million people, and once the world is told the story by the winner in the coming history books, then the world will build a big wall around the USA, and let them all fuck each other and eat each other until everyone in the USA is dead.

NATO is talking out of it's ass. They were drunk on their take over of Ukraine using just a few well paid Right Sector lunatics. Then like a flash, Putin appears and gives Crimea a vote, in no time Crimea is part of Russia. NATO goes, "WTF happened" "Our navies were already sailing to their new naval base in Sevastopol, we had hundreds of missile bases on the drawing boards for the Crimean region." Our dreams of NAZI glory are shattered! No wonder they are pissing all over themselves with rage. Make no mistake, the west is pissed, this thing could go south in a flash. It only would take Ukraine to kill some Russians in Karkov or other cities for this to go the way of 1914. Of course Washngton war mongers would love it, war with Russia. You ever think where our freedoms would go in that case? As if we many left.

This same thing could happen in major cities in Latvia or Lithuania.

The Soviet policy of "Russification " which was the forced migration of ethnic Russian populations into the invaded countries of eastern Europe was designed just for this purpose.  These communities are a ready-made source of provocation to be triggered at any time by a call to Russian nationalism.

These transplants have no self-held pride in the historic uniqueness of their adopted new lands.  Russians in Latvia do not visit the monument to freedom or the museums of the  barricades or of commemoration for the national struggle for independence from Germany and Russia.... and the natives reflection on this history and on their Latvian identity only has served to maintain a recognition of "otherness" by those of Russian descent.

Do native Latvians trust in the business dealings of their Russian neighbors?  Mostly "no!" and for good reasons.  That will require further discussion.

Now that Russia has this maxi-Chauvinist Russian strongman, Putin, we can expect more anti-Slav/pro-Russian demagoguery and disruptions and conflicts.  Putin has a lot to answer for!

How about we let the Russian population in California decide,

"if they want to join Russia?"

If that works, then we could try the same in Illinois and other troubled states.

Do the Europeans have any regions to dump onto Russia (other than Ukraine)?  Cyprus maybe?

Since Putin is such a super leader, why not make him Führer of the New World Government?  We can all be Russians!
