The Morning Precious Metals Dump, Stock Pump Is Back

Tyler Durden's picture

With the pending release of the FOMC minutes today, whet else is there but to lift JPY a little (just enough to break 102), spark a momentum run in US equity futures and dump precious metals like the status-quo-hating barbarous relics they are.

GSR at 66:1 now...trade an ounce of gold in and hook up with a fat stack of cheap silver Buffalos.  Once that GSR drops under 50:1 or hits 40:1 etc., trade some silver back in for an ounce of gold.  Keep adding ounces to your stacks!

not too bad of an idea, but i just cant make myself part with any of my modest ammount of gold. rather than doing that, ive just stopped buying gold and gone to only buying silver. I still think gold is insanely cheap at these levels, but silver is really cheap compared to gold, 66:1 is pretty crazy. once its around 50:1 ill prob add a little more gold.

So the "market" is front running something that occurred on March 18-19?  Got it.  Since the Fed minutes are always under high-security lock-down and never leaked, then it truly is "news".  /s

Yup, agree. Also CNBC thinks Fed minutes and Q1 earnings are "in focus on Wall Street" today. :-o

I'm wondering: Couldn't it be that there are just three groups of people out there:

1) Those who think this really matters and "trade" accordingly, because it worked so well over the last years (=sheep?)

2) The bears waiting for the long overdue crash, massively bleeding on their positions for years (=ZH readers?) and

3) Those who would - in case anybody asks - use the publication of such earnings- or Fed minutes-"news" as a retrospective reason why they had to do this and that trade, although they have already decided to do it long before the "news" and agreed upon with several other big players on the golf course or over a couple of beers to be sure they make money (=fraudsters?)

Why the fuck is silver shitsmacked 5X harder than gold?

I believe these sessions happen so the available  physical assets can be accumulated cheaply. Is silver holding gold down or are the powers that be gobbling up silver?

Silver is the key to marginalizing the bankers control over the common man because it is within our reach....they got all the Gold, but dont have any Silver...

that is why they attack the phony paper price of Silver more viciously  - to discourage us from exiting their worthless debt coupon dollar and debt based paradigm....

keep stackin...its desperation your smelling...

they're manipulation should have the opposite affect on us though...the lower they drive the "paper" price down, the more we all should be stacking the fuck outta the real phyzz.  I hope they continue to manipulate silver prices for as long as possible around this 19/20 area so that we can continue to stack cheap phyzz.  This will also help those who finally wake the fuck up to begin stacking phyzz as well and help them catch up.  Once the game is up and the Crimex defaults it's going to be off to the fucking races for silver and nobody is going to be able to grab any phyzz again until we're well into the triple digits range somewhere.

"In 2013, investors watched as the US Mint broke record after record for American Eagle silver coin sales, eventually selling 42,675,000 of the coins, 26 percent more than it sold in 2012 and a new yearly record.

While this year hasn’t been quite so eventful, March did see the Mint sell 5,354,000 silver American Eagles — that’s 30 percent more than it sold in February and 59.5 percent more than buyers snapped up during March 2013, as per CoinNews. It’s also the Mint’s fourth-biggest sales month ever, falling behind only:

  • January 2013, with 7,498,000 coins sold;
  • January 2011, with 6,422,000 coins sold; and
  • January 2012, with 6,107,000 coins sold.

The March total brings 2014 first-quarter sales of the coins to 13,879,000, states CoinNews. Last year is the only time sales during that period have been better.

Why are sales up?

Shedding some light on why American Eagle silver coins sold so well in March, Sprott Money Blog identifies low silver prices caused by the US Federal Reserve’s statement that it ”may consider raising interest rates sooner than previously expected” and the “ongoing slowdown in China” as two potential catalysts.

The “increasingly precarious situation that the world finds itself in due to rising tensions over the Russian-Crimea crisis” is also driving physical silver demand, the publications states in another article.

What’s more interesting is the fact that sales of the coins could have been even higher.

That, as Coin Update points out, is because the Mint is rationing its American Eagle silver coin sales, a move prompted by its “inability to source sufficient precious metals blanks.” Further, according to Sprott Money Blog, this year the Mint did not start selling the coins until the second week of January.

As a result, states CoinNews, while figures from the US Mint are helpful in providing an understanding of physical silver demand, they cannot paint a full picture."

Yes, much easier to manipulate.  The Au price is consistently and loudly broadcast although the market itself is a very small one.  It acts as a thermometer for inflation and currency weakness, so it gets pounded down to help the masses feel better.  It's a contrarain sector so you develop a thick skin.
