The Stunning Metamorphosis Of An "Obama Girl"
This is Carey Wedler (the one with the Obama shirt) approximately six years ago, when she was, in her own words, a fervent "Obama girl" who believed the myth about "hope and change."
And this is Carey Wedler now, grown up, who has finally "googled the news", and having seen through the lies, realizes that Obama has "become exactly like the George Bush" that she "used to so vitriolically hate."
Below are some of her observations on all the "mayhem and crime" committed by the president:
- You bailed out bankers and placed them in your cabinet.
- You placed Monsanto in charge of your FDA
- You helped out pharmaceutical and health insurance companies with Obamacare
- You expanded Bush's wars and started new ones with drones branding yourself a humanitarian war monger
- You bragged about crippling sanctions against Iran though they directly affected civilians
- You extended the patriot act and asserted your right to spy on the American people
- You asserted your right to detain them without trial
- You seized the authority to assassinate Americans without providing any evidence of their guilt or offering them due process of law
- You viciously punish journalists and pursue whistleblowers who expose your crimes though you vowed to protect them when you were running for office
- You arm Al Qaeda insurgents and refused to close Guantanamo, and you along with congress have criminalized protest
- And still you have the audacity to scold dictators about democracy, protests and freedom
Her conclusion:
- Mr. Obama - you are the biggest fraud that has ever been perpetrated on the American people and it's been a long time since I bought into it so I think it's about time to burn your shirt.

I understand the desire for simple solutions, but the fact is life is complicated, so I don't think it''s overthinking the problem when it's something as important as who gets to vote.
Here's my partial solution to the problem:
Campaign finance reform: No one can donate money to a candidate. No individual, no corporation, nada. All candidates get exactly the same amount of tax dollars to campaign with - their decision how to spend it. To become a candidate, you need X amount of signatures, the number determined as a percentage of population in the area in which you're running - not too high to make it impossible, but high enough to avoid joke candidates.
Term Limits: No candidate may serve more than two consecutive terms.
Lobbying. Not allowed. Citizens may petition the government to hold referendums, but absolutley no corporate or special interests allowed. If you're a corporation or special interest, you have to convince enough citizens to hold a referendum to get your views heard.
Voting: Every born or naturalized citizen over the age of 16. That gives you at least one chance to vote against a candidate advocating the draft. It also reaches nearly everyone while still in high school where it's possible to have debates and some sort of instruction on the importance of taking the responsibility seriously.
I realize I'm just dreaming, but I'm allowed to do that. So are you. MLK had a dream, and he acted on it. You can argue the merits of that outcome, but the fact is, he had an effect.
As for nobody owing anyone anything? Not so. You owe your parents for bringing you into this world, raising and caring for you. plus you owe everyone who went before you that made a difference in improving your life. I owe my ilfe to Alexander Fleming. Without penicillin I'd be dead by now. As a microbiologist, I'm sure you can think of more examples along those lines.
Granted, someone shows up with their hand out, you don't owe them a thing - but what you do owe is to put some thought into how they got that way, and how those circumstances can be avoided in the future.
Not a perfect world, not a fair world, but that's no reason to give up. If the word "obligation" makes you uneasy, try "reciprocity." Do unto others, as the Christians would say.
Bugging out may be an option, but it's a weak response to the challenge and wouldn't even be possible if not for the all the people who went before. The guns, the seeds, that generator, the water purifier, the bowie knife, etc etc. All because someone before you had an idea (maybe even a dream) and acted on it.
Just so you know: I'm not picking on you personally. There's a lot of people here with good hearts and I'm sure you're one of them. For the first time in history we have a forum where we're able to discuss these things, and I plan to make the most of it before it's taken from us, which is an ever present danger.

Through out history, how did people survive without public programs? Answer: charity. Once you put everyone's money in a pot, corruption follows I'm sad to say. Just managing our small private schools PTA funds brought this out with a few unscrupulous few determined to control where it would be spent. I realized when $30k couldn't be managed properly how could 3 trillion be?
I applaud your sentiments but in each case these power hungry ambitious people would find ways to skirt around the rules. They always have and will always until the end of time. I don't mean that to sound nihilistic, just factual. Honestly I wish it weren't so.
I don't owe my parents for bringing me into the world. I didn't asked to be born to them. And since I have had operations to try and fix the damage they did to me ( especially my mother) from all the beatings I received, I did not feel the need to care for her in her old age. Yes, I was given food and shelter. So I guess I should feel happy I didn't starve to death or die in the elements? Until I got away at 22 I thought death was infinitely preferable to the life I was living. That I had to remove a gun from the house when my brother tried to commit suicide implies his agreement.
I am grateful for all that is done for me. I mean that in entirety. When I sit at a cafe I am grateful someone grew the delicious beans and someone saw to the logistics so I could have a small joy sipping an espresso that came from a far away land. I will never meet them but I give thanks to them. I have saved the lives of hundreds of people in my work. They will never meet me or ever know what I did for them. I am grateful my expertise helped them. Though I don't hear the thanks in person, I feel it spiritually. That is enough.
We all are owed and we all owe. Some peoples accounts are more balanced, others skewed. I am not so foolish to think I could survive entirely without any outside services or supplies. But I am fully aware they are not a RIGHT but a PRIVILEGE. Once I cross the path to " I deserve what I have" is when I have lost my grounding and am on the road to parasitism. Too many now have walked in this direction and society has decayed because of this.
Yes I believe in compassion and reciprocity. This year I am raising turkeys for 2 families who are suffering from unemployment. No, they won't be delivered ready for the oven. Each family must come and help in slaughter and processing ALL of the birds. Though this will increase my costs ( which Mr Miffed has put on an Excel spreadsheet to keep my eye on the purse- not my forte) I consider the debt paid. This is but a small example. Why could this not be done on a larger scale and eliminate the government middle man? Why can't I experience helping someone directly and locally rather than taxing my livelihood and given to someone undeserved? I would gladly help any veteran in any way possible. He has paid his dues. But my taxes are spent on what the government deems important not the homeless guy that is dying right now on the street from TB.
