UN Security Council Begins Discussion Of Situation In Ukraine

Tyler Durden's picture

Today's emergency session in the UN summoned by none other than Russia, whose representative Churkin has just started to speak, has begun. Via Bloomberg:

  • WEST, KIEV 'HENCHMEN' GOVT RESPONSIBLE FOR INSTABILITY: CHURKIN
  • CHURKIN URGES 'DE-ESCALATION,' RETURN TO FEB.21 ACCORD

But the most important opinion, that of China, remains entirely noncomittal:

  • CHINA URGES POLITICAL, DIPLOMATIC SETTLEMENT IN UKRAINE: WANG
  • CHINA HOPES RELEVANT PARTIES IN UKRAINE 'KEEP CALM,' WANG SAYS

And Russia warns:

  • Churkin: "In just a few hours things may take an irreversible turn for the worse"

The live webcast below.

So to sum it all up:

Russia - blames The US and Ukraine right-wing for escalating against pro-Russian forces:

  • RUSSIA'S UN ENVOY CHURKIN SAYS E. UKRAINE SITUATION 'DANGEROUS'
  • MAIDAN 'HENCHMEN' ORGANIZING TERROR WITH WEST BACKING: CHURKIN
  • WEST, KIEV 'HENCHMEN' GOVT RESPONSIBLE FOR INSTABILITY: CHURKIN
  • CHURKIN URGES 'DE-ESCALATION,' RETURN TO FEB.21 ACCORD

The US (Ambassador Power) says it Russia's fault...

  • U.S. FAVORS SPEEDING UP PROCESS FOR UKRAINE-IMF ACCORD: POWER
  • RUSSIA 'SPREADING FICTION, WE MUST STOP THIS TONIGHT,': POWER
  • MUST DISCUSS FACTS TO DISPEL RUSSIA PROPAGANDA ON UKRAINE:POWER
  • ONLY RUSSIA CAN COORDINATE 'PROFESSIONAL' INSTABILITY: POWER

But..

  • U.S. STANDS WITH UKRAINE TO HELP SEE OUT IMF AGREEMENT: POWER
  • $1B LOAN GARANTEE WITH UKRAINE WILL CONCLUDE TMRW, POWER SAYS

So Gazprom gets some of its cash?

Ukraine is irate...

  • *UKRAINE GOVT 'SEVERELY CHALLENGED' BY EAST SITUATION: SERGEYEV
  • *RUSSIA IS SENDING 'SUBVERSIVE GROUPS' INTO UKRAINE: SERGEYEV
  • *UKRAINE WON'T LET CRIMEA REPEAT IN COUNTRY'S EAST: SERGEYEV
  • *UKRAINE MAKES 'FINAL WARNING CRY' FOR RUSSIA TO LEAVE: SERGEYEV
  • *UKRAINE DEMANDS THAT RUSSIA 'LEAVE US ALONE,' SERGEYEV SAYS

To which Russia responds...

  • *UKRAINE 'FAR TOO IMPORTANT ECONOMIC PARTNER' FOR RUSSIA:CHURKIN
  • *RUSSIA DOESN'T WANT DESTABILIZATION OF UKRAINE, CHURKIN SAYS
  • *NOT RUSSIA'S FAULT THAT UKRAINE IS WHAT IT IS NOW, CHURKIN SAYS

The neocons AND libtards (both under the control of the banking-military-financial complex) want desperately to send in the liver-eaters (trained by alCIAda) that they deployed in Syria, Libya, and Egypt; they want to ensure they successfully provoke a full'scale military response by Putin as a pretext to ratchet up the conflict.

And a friendly reminder about Victoria "Nuland":

Victoria Nuland is the daughter of Yale bioethics and medicine professor Sherwin B. Nuland, whose original surname was ***Nudelman***. Victoria’s paternal grandfather was Meyer Nudelman from a family of Jewish immigrants who came to New York City from Russia.  --married to Robert Kagan, whose father established PNAC (of "New Pearl Harbor" fame before 9/11), and related to Elena Kagan, former SCOTUS nominee - see how the web is interwoven?
Nuland -- > Is Elena Kagan Related to PNAC Founder and Neocon Extremist Donald Kagan?

"they want to ensure they successfully provoke a full'scale military response by Putin as a pretext to ratchet up the conflict."

Agreed on that. It looks like the neocons in the West want to have a full out war with Russia. Fucking crazy. Russia should refrain to give the West the pretext they are after. Instead, they should open a full frontal attack on the US dollar . The Anglo-American Banking Cartel is bankrupt with no gold left in their vaults. That's where the attack would hurt the West the most.

I heard on Sunday zbigniew brzezinski open his yap on Fareed Zakaria (CNN) that if the Ukrainians resist Russian aggression, the US and the west should send arms to support them...but only if they take the step and actually fight. He referenced what happened during the Vietnam War when Russia backed the communists with arm shipments.
For the record zbigniew brzezinski is far from being a neoconservative. Even Fareed (another useless tool in my book) looked like his eyes were going to pop out of his liberal skull after hearing such hawkishness.

Actively & openly arming Ukraine, which is not just on Russia's doorstep, but part & parcel of it, with offensive weapons designed to go head to head with Russia is the equivalency of essentially declaring war upon Russia, and I'm confident Russia would view it as such.

I wonder how MAF Poland and Germany are at the US. In this pissing contest between the US and Russia, if/when missiles start getting shot off, it will be people living on the continent of Europe (cannot use the word European anymore) paying the price.

Some idiot analyst somewhere wrote some classified report which said "We can take Ukraine and Russia will not do anything."

Bet he feels like an idiot today.

I'd used to like the idea of seeing Samantha Power rolled up into a burlap bag and dumped into the East River but that would be too destructive to the environment.  I'll just be happy if she just gets fired.  Not what she deserves but at least she couldn't be any more discruptive to world peace and it would increase the average intelligence of the UNSC by 2000%, if not more.

Remember in 2003 when she said a new administration would allow for the US to "extract concessions to patrol the commons?"  Translation: Team America, World Police.

Churkin should bring in a Tokarev with a bullet in the chamber, slide it over to her and encourage her to do the world a favour and shoot herself in the head.

appears to be too late already.

i do agree this is Russia...AND EUROPE'S...backyard. Clearly "two men go in, only one comes out."

Any commitment by the the USA will I think commit Europe. That would make President Putin's task of securing the territorial integrity of all of Ukraine much more challenging.

Clearly he is not in charge of the Capitol...and in order to be he will have to take it by force.

Events may have already moved beyond protecting the minority rights of Russians as well. This thing is already ugly...the question appears to be only "how fast" at this point.

Ukraine is not a "flashpoint." In fact it is far worse which is why this is a VERY dicey situation in my view. This is a potentially VERY wealthy piece of real estate...of great value to both the region and in theory to the world (a global bread basket...equal only to the USA if kept in one piece.) In other words "there are many interests...and interested parties...at stake here."

I do agree with the the Russian Ambassador to the United Nations. This could indeed escalate "in a matter of hours."

I would not at all be surprised to see the United States, the various States of Europe, the European Union and Turkey all at war with Russia "all of a sudden."

Minority rights of Russian?  Are you out of your mind?  At no point have the rights of Russians in the Ukraine been violated.  It is quite the reverse - Russians are fucking gangsters, and Putler is the worst of them all.

Putler is a monster of epic proportions.  He would think nothing of slaughtering his own people if it would help him accomplish his goal of resurrecting the Soviet Union.

Haven't you learned any of the lessons of history?  Letting Putler have his way with Ukraine is a form of appeasement.  Allowing the hungry WOLF to have a lamb will not satisfy it.  It will soon be back for another and then another.

Putler needs to have his face shoved in his own shit.  Where are the reparations for the mass murder of Ukrainians in the 1930s?  Those dumb fucks in eastern Ukraine have short memories - somehow they managed to forget what Stalin did to them in the Holodomor.  Fuck Russia.

One suggestion:  Instead of resurrecting the Soviet Union perhaps Putin wants to restore the Russian Empire.  Czar Putin.  It probably has a nice ring to it with a Russian accent.

Just a historical anectdote of how important food is, Ghenghis khan when he was 13yo shot and killed his older brother with a bow and arrow because he was hiding food from the rest of the family in hard times.

Ukraine is one heck of a bread basket besides the important geographical location, nice women, and lots of cheap real estate and water for an overcrowded Europe

1. Famine in Ukraine in the 30s was in areas inhabited predominantly Russian people. It is south and south-east of Ukraine. Most people died of starvation, were Russian, not Ukrainian.
More than any other, today scream and whine about the hunger, only WH Trolls (as you) and representatives of western Ukraine. But on the western Ukraine famine was not. This is called political prostitution. Because all the so-called "Western Ukraine" in the 30s was state lands of Poland.

2. Stalin never struggled with the Ukrainians, it is not necessary to repeat the nonsense for morons on Faux News propaganda. Stalin fought with the class of prosperous peasants, independed of any nationality of them.
Think about this: Stalin fought with the class of wealthy peasants, regardless of their ethnicity. Therefore famine in 30 years was not only in Ukraine, but in Russia and in Kazakhstan, too.

Since no stakeholder is pushing toward holding a national election swiftly and restoring a democratic government in Ukraine, I think the Ukrainian military should overthrow the Kiev regime.  This option would probably spill the least amount of blood.  And I suspect most of the military personnel wouldn't want to kill Ukrainians (including ethnic Russians many of whom appear to prefer Ukraine remain in one country) nor fight Russian military.

I still do not see a parallel between Waco and Donetsk. Interesting for you to bring up the Mexican's however that doesn't do it either.

Waco was the totalitarian left in America suppressing freedom of religion. David Koresch was not on the offensive. He was only trying to protect his private property. He may have been a bit waco himself but he did not deserve to get torched. They were well supplied, however, a siege would have eventualy brought them out peacably.

That is what I believe would be the best approach in Donetsk. A siege if you will.

I am not pro-Ukranian necessarily, however, neither am I pro-Russian federation.

Seems like there a number of Russian Federation adherents on Z Hedge these days.

Why?

Perhaps it's the perception that Putin and the Russian Federation are anti-UN, or anti NWO. Is that it???

'Lefties' have their share of retards in the vein of Bush.  The obvious case is Obama, and despite him purusing nearly ever Bush policy verbatim, the "lefties" still see this guy as a progressive liberal when the guy isn't even a Democrat.  But there are others.  For example, Ms. Power at the UN.  She's just another neocon who famously said along the lines that she didn't approve of going into Iraq but since the USA was now there the USA might as well nation-build.   Just another case of "ends justifies the means."  She also said that the new administration in 2008 would allow for that administration to "extract concessions" to "patrol the commons."  What's the translation?  Bush policy to be world cop.  So you end up with supposed progressives who end up saying things like "Bush did Iraq wrong but if we were in charge..."  Which, for me, translates into "we are closet PNAC neo-cons but too stupid to see it."  It really is a testament to the effectiveness of propaganda in the USA...
