White House Admits CIA Director Brennan Was "Secretly" In Kiev
Late last night we asked if, as the Russian media had reported and only the Russian media, CIA director John Brennan had secretly visited Kiev over the weekend: "Brennan landed in Ukraine on Saturday under an assumed name and held a "series of secret meetings" with the country's "power bloc" Interfax reported, citing an unidentified official in the Ukrainian parliament. The person who said this to Interfax in a phone talk added that John Brennan came to Ukraine not under his real name. According to some yet unconfirmed information, the decision to suppress protesters in Slavyansk, a city in Ukraine's east, with force was advised to Ukraine's authorities by Brennan."
One can further admit the meeting was "secret" - if only in initial intent - not only because of Brennan's assumed fake name (why the secrecy?) but because until Russian Interfax- of all places - had reported about what is certainly a key meeting in a nation in which disinformation and counterpropganda is not only rife but the last thread the current Kiev regime is hanging by - Brennan's meeting was completely unmentioned by the US press.
Until today, when moments ago White House speaker Jay Carner confirmed that indeed the CIA director was in Kiev last weekend.
"We don't normally comment on the CIA director's travel but given the extraordinary circumstances in this case and the false claims being leveled by the Russians at the CIA we can confirm that the director was in Kiev as part of a trip to Europe," White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters.
According to media reports, Russia has urged Washington to explain what Brennan was doing in Ukraine.
"Senior level visits of intelligence officials are a standard means of fostering mutually beneficial security cooperation including U.S.-Russian intelligence collaboration going back to the beginnings of the post-Cold War era," Carney said.
"U.S. and Russian intelligence officials have met over the years. To imply that U.S. officials meeting with their counterparts is anything other than in the same spirit is absurd," he said
You know what's absurd? Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. Or YouTube clips "proving" an Assad chemical weapons attack... which was organized and executed by NATO member Turkey with the blessing of rht US. Or the same CIA director showing up in a Kiev hotel under a fake name. Or for Interfax to have more credibility than US media outlets.
You know what isn't absurd? Speculation that just like the CIA organized the overthrow of the Yanukovich regime, which has been confirmed courtesy of the Russian secret services leaking Victoria Nuland's very inconveient recording, so the recent escalation in east Ukraine is indeed the work of the CIA.
You know what won't be abusrd? If and when the Russians release another recording, this time of Brennan, proving that all the latest "Russian" propaganda is once again in fact, fact.

I think Syria's problem is that it didn't have enough name recognition, but most Americans still have anti-USSR propaganda buried in their subconscious. There was heavy anti-Russian propaganda during the Olympics, makes you wonder if maybe some of this was planned. I think the PTB could easily make the public believe that Ukraine needs to be liberated from big bad Russia.
The public could even be told that Russia is a threat to the American way of life, which is actually true with the wheels set in motion towards the collapse of the dollar. Probably the only factual information one could expect out of this administration. The fact that the American way of life isn't worth defending will be completely lost on them.

Nicely said. But the key to "real reporting" lies in two parts: one the writing, but two, the reading! One of the strengths of blogs like this one (sometimes) is the critical reception of information by the readers. If the readers are not skeptical of what is read, then it is meaningless. It is disturbing, for example (as others have noted), to see the pass Putin is getting on zh. Just because the US is evil, that does not make Putin good. Yes, he does have the more justifiable position, given that he is in fact facing a direct threat on his border, and thus genuine existential concerns, but that doesn't mean he is a "good guy". In Ukraine, we have two vicious ugly dogs fighting over a carcass. Each of them has a pack of "friends" behind them. If those dogs directly fight, the melee that will break out will be ugly, and no one will be "right". It will just be a bloodbath, even assuming no doomsday scenario (which itself is a non-trivial risk).
Regarding the media role in this, the MSM should by this point be the laughing stock of our population. Sadly, much of the population does not pay enough attention and still gives the benefit of their apathy to believing what is being presented. A horrible oversight on our part. As a population, we have failed. But the loss of faith is indeed beginning. The end of the Soviet Union came after it was simply known that everything their government and its media told them was a lie. We are not there yet in the US, but the trend is in that direction. I find hope in that.
I repeat here a simple suggestion I made in another thread. This is a painless step we can take and recommend to others. Turn off the sound when advertising comes on. That's it. Nothing more. This doesn't stop the presentation of lies if people are watching the news, granted. But by removing this constant soundtrack in people's minds of known lies (that's what advertising is, by definition: a "skewed" reality), this single step would lower the volume of lies we are all exposed to daily by a significant amount. If we engage with the media, mute the advertising, and be disciplined about doing it every time. No one will miss it. No one. Painless and productive.
Imagine the effect his would have when the election cycle rolls around. We can make a difference with small, painless steps like this.

In Europe the press is not much better.
Since I was 10 years old my parents always bought an magazine from a small independent media outlet, containing good investigation journalism stories. When I moved out, I kept reading it for many years.
But then as the banks began to merge and grow bigger, this little media outlet was swallowed by a large media group. After a month I stopped buying it because it transformed into meaningless presstitute toilet paper. Those CEO's must think we are all stupid? Yet they complain their sales is dropping further and further, they blame it on the Internet. But I know it is because they sell sh*t.
TV, same thing, 20 years ago very good and critical programs, nowadays every channel spews the same mindless pulp.
The only positive thing I am noticing, is that more and more people I know or meet seem to slowly become aware of it. For some it is quite a shock to find out.

Russia can make a lot of money staying out of certain parts of Ukraine. Just today the US gave Ukraine money to pay a portion of their debt to Gazprom. Why not let Ukraine continue to get bailed out by the US/IMF/EU knowing the money is going to go staight to Russia? Russia will earn more money doing nothing at this point than taking over all of Ukraine.
