Ukraine Troops, APCs Storm Occupied Slavyansk

Tyler Durden's picture

As we reported earlier, Ukraine finally unleashed a military action to the "pro-Russian separatists" in "pro-Russian separatist" occupied Slavyansk and other east Ukraine towns. And now, we get to see it in action. From Bloomberg:

  • UKRAINE UNITS STORMING CITY HELD BY PRO-RUSSIAN PROTESTERS: RIA
  • UKRAINIAN TROOPS, APCS ENTER SLOVYANSK, RIA SAYS
  • MILITARY STORM AIRFIELD IN E. UKRAINE, WOUNDED REPORTED: RT

The response by Putin, who has repeatedly warned against precisely this escalation, is now expected momentarily.

The Ukrainian government is out with some comments:

  • UKRAINIAN 1ST DEP. PREMIER YAREMA COMMENTS ON CHANNEL 5 TV
  • UKRAINE GOVT SAYS HAS IDENTIFIED RUSSIAN MILITARY IN SLOVYANSK
  • UKRAINE GOVT: RUSSIAN 45TH AIRBORNE IN SLOVYANSK, KRAMATORSK

It's funny how all the MSM's are saying that this may turn into a Civil War.  This is clearly not a Civil War.  It's between the West and Russia.

When Main Stream News is part of this whole ramp up you know that there is much much more to it.

Now all we need are some real time Cams in each contested city so that we can all keep track of the action / players.

Nonsense. Russia will sit and watch.

Putin has nothing to gain by going in, and would indeed lose far more Russian lives in a pitched battle with the fascists than the fascists will take by routing the protesters.

By sitting and watching the fascists massacre protesters, Putin will allow the fascists to discredit themselves (and their NATO paymasters) in the eyes of the world.

Putin will only move if NATO attempts to move in missile batteries (which NATO will not have the balls to do).

The “Global Money Matrix” birthed by the U.S. Congress in 1913 at the behest of the international bankers – aka the bankers’ Federal Reserve casino; Yellen now at the keyboard-- is deliberately flooding the last vestiges of sound money with their paper money – turning its counterfeit into assets...and power.

Writes Dr. Gary Null:

In the midst of this economic turmoil there is one group that still manages to flourish: the global elite. With more than $32 trillion stashed in offshore banks around the world, the wealth of the so-called “1%” is staggeringly obscene and grows by the day.[vii]  Their aggregate wealth, larger than the US GDP and national debt combined, is a testament to the tremendous influence and lobbying power held by a coterie of private interests that dominate nearly every sector of society.

Instead of reining in the inordinate control exercised by the elite, most of our elected officials have become little more than shills for these corporate overlords, creating policies that favor their campaign donors instead of the American people. Hundreds of millions of dollars were funneled into Barack Obama’s 2012 presidential campaign by donors whose business affiliations run the gamut from real estate and finance to media and law firms. According to Opensecrets.org, “Together, 769 elites are directing at least $186,500,000 for Obama’s re-election efforts — money that has gone into the coffers of his campaign as well as the Democratic National Committee.”[viii] This figure doesn’t even account for the massive contributions to Obama’s reelection by corporate-driven SuperPACs. Obama is just one example of how our politicians are beholden to the elite agenda.

Given the corporatist influence that infects our halls of power, it is little wonder that our tax dollars continue to fund unconstitutional spying, perpetual war, and neoliberal policies that extend the powers of the world’s richest individuals and organizations. As Americans struggle financially, our social safety nets are increasingly losing priority... -- The Global Money Matrix: The Forces behind America’s Economic Destruction, April 13, 2014

Your first sentence kind of communicates that the US became a puppet of European interests in 1913, rather than the other way around.

I think the truth is likely more like intermingling interests amongst a tiny elite cabal of bankers.

The CIA director was sent to Kiev to launch a military suppression of the Russian separatists in the eastern and southern portions of Ukraine, former Russian territories for the most part that were foolishly attached to the Ukraine in the early years of Soviet rule.

Dr. Paul Craig Roberts today sums up Russia’s dilemma and how she might thwart Washington’s power grab as the US attack on Russia shifts into high gear.

“In my opinion, Washington does not want the Ukraine matters settled in a diplomatic and reasonable way. It might be the case that Russia’s best move is immediately to occupy the Russian territories of Ukraine and re-absorb the territories into Russia from whence they came.

“This should be done before the US and its NATO puppets are prepared for war. It is more difficult for Washington to start a war when the objects of the war have already been lost. Russia will be demonized with endless propaganda from Washington whether or not Russia re-absorbs its traditional territories. If Russia allows these territories to be suppressed by Washington, the prestige and authority of the Russian government will collapse. Perhaps that is what Washington is counting on.

If Putin’s government stands aside while Russian Ukraine is suppressed, Putin’s prestige will plummet, and Washington will finish off the Russian government by putting into action its many hundreds of Washington-financed NGOs that the Russian government has so foolishly tolerated. Russia is riven with Washington’s Fifth columns…

"The attack on Russia is mounting."

PCR is older - meaning he views today's events through yesterdays glasses - and he has anti-US-itis.   Even a Super Villain like the USG can't be everywhere!  But he sees them there anyway!

Rome had a clearer view.  Who is it good for? Or... Follow the money.

Somehow people don't believe the Western Media's BS, but do believe the Eastern Media's BS.   People need to stop eating BS and thinking it is caviar, when they KNOW that it is BS.  Wanting to believe isn't the same as knowing or really believing.  That's why people see the 'other' as boogeyman, and the familiar as wearing a white hat and surrounded by a divine halo even when they know the familiar is a bad guy.

Europe doesn't want a Russian energy monopoly.  This is true with or without NATO and the US.

Russia DOES want a Russian energy monopoly.  This is true with or without NATO or the US.

It would be more accurate to say that NATO and the US position at the head of the table depend on Europe getting what it wants rather than Russia getting what it wants.

BTW... HOW do I know  - KNOW - that Putin's line about defending ethnic Russians is BS?

EASY.  Russians get abused in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan (where girls get kidnapped and sold into the Muslim world) and other places.  Putin only declares Russians have been abused and invades places that have energy pipelines.

I don't think Putin is going to react. I suspect many of these Pro-Russian occupiers are not part of Putin's team. I expect many of the leaders of these various pro-Russian groups moved independently, looking for a piece of the pie. These short-term thinkers are looking for a Putin bailout while maintaining a seat at their table, and a share in the spoils.

I don't think the stakes are high enough yet for Putin to act.

Pootin is backing himself into a corner. If he wants to use force, he has to go through the UN. And of course the west will play the game Russia has been playing and veto any resolution authorizing him to do so. If he uses force anyway everything he has been saying for the last few years goes down the drain. But of course Pootin and his henchmen are a bunch of hypocrites just like their western counterparts, so we know how it'll work out. This could be the final nail in the coffin for the UN and it will suffer the same fate as its predecessor.

What annoys me even more that the propaganda on TV, and the lies by politicians, is that people who ought to know better continue to believe it.

The US Government is run by criminal bankers.

The EU Government is totalitarian criminal bankers.

The Russian Government is run by Mafia Gangsters.

That is the T R U T H!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate that people blind themselves to believe lies from liars who they already know 100% for certain are liars.

It is willful blindness.  And they will get what they want.

Nuclear war.

Does it really matter who occupies the municipal buildings ? The question is will there be economic disruption and financial collapse in which case the price of occupation will be extremely high.
Russia already has Crimea, economic leverage in most of Eastern Ukraine with elections not till May 25th.
Putin will wait for developments to unfold and send in troops only if a shooting war develops in which case he has a tactical advantage. All part of a chess game---so far .

A quick glance at the headlines made me think I was reading about Nevada, not Ukraine. Troops, APCs...what does Harry Reid have to say about this?

UKRAINE GOVT: RUSSIAN 45TH AIRBORNE IN SLOVYANSK, KRAMATORSK

If the Ukrainian government wasn't such a bunch of banker liars, this might be serious.

If 45th Airborne were in Slovyansk and Kramatorsk, the Ucrainan army would not have a chance to take control of these cities.

Well, let's hope the 45th Airborne is not in Slovyansk.  I think anyone in Slovyansk who is expecting Putin to come to their rescue will have their hopes dashed.  I do not think Putin would put the 45th Airborne in Slovyansk.  Putin does not seem to be the type of person who swings at the first pitch, or uses high trump cards on low tricks.

Now there were those reports of Pro-Russians voluntarily giving up the government buildings in other towns.  That is exactly the type of thing I would expect Putin to order his people to do.  Give the first round to the Ukrainians.  After all, it is their country (for now).  I see Putin using George Patton's tactic of sticking a crowbar in and wiggling it around.  Let's see how this unfolds.  What will the reactions be?

Seems to me that the great risk for Putin by sitting back and doing nothing about East Ukraine is that it may lead to the West & NATO installing itself there after quelling the separatists. That could be a serious aggravation for Putin.

If Putin waits then there will be a government that he can't as easily call illegitimate.

As a result he would be back in the Ukraine for a reapeat of the 2008 gas crisis sooner rather than later.

Putin must either have Ukraine become part of Russia, or be run by Russians, for Russia, but in the name of Ukraine.

Shortly, Russia cannot tolerate an independent Ukraine.

Putin and Obama have very much in common: they both don't give a shit about their countries and are afraid of their own people.

The good news is that Putin's days are numbered. As for Obama, he is a lame duck president.

You are imagining things.

Nothing the US could do would make this issue go away.

Europe wants energy and is willing to go to war for it.

Putin wants monopolies for GAZPROM and LUKOIL - and has committed Russia to go to war to prevent competitors.

If the Yellowstone volcano wiped out the US tomorrow, it would not change either Europe's or Putin's positions.

So, hurry up and kill each other.  You've been doing it regularly for 1000 years, anyway.   Now with nukes, you can finally finish the job.  So hurry up and bring Europe to its end.

Everyone who said this was about Crimea, and ethnic Russians, eat your words.

Putin sees the fate of Russia tied to GAZPROM and LUKOIL.

GERMANY sees the fate of Europe tied to energy supplies.

GAZPROM AND LUKOIL want monopolies.

Why have the eastern provinces gone crazy less than a month before elections?

Because the Russian Army is already there.  Putin had to take EAST UKRAINE - WHY?  WHY NOW AND NOT 30 days FROM NOW?

Because LUKOIL and GAZPROM cannot have an indepenedent Ukraine.

Why does Europe keep interfereing in Ukraine? - Because their pipelines through Georgia, Syria, Algeria, and Libya were interfered with, blocked by Russia, and Ukraine is the only viable route left.

Why does the US keep interfering in Ukraine?  The US is trying to maintain its position with Europe - who wants to go its own way with the EU - and with the Gulf States, who are angry that the US has authorized energy extraction for the first time since the 1970s.

Why does Russia keep interfering in Ukraine?  Because Ukraine is the best place for pipelines to Europe, and Russia - at the demand of LUKOIL and GAZPROM - doesn't want anyone else selling gas and oil in Europe.

Everyone is willing to go to war over this.

When will the World War begin?

It will be worth it to have a dollar default right now, arm everyone, and demand gold in payment while Europe nukes itself to ashes.

"These headlines about Ukrainian anti-terror operations are part of a psychological warfare being conducted by NATO agents in Kiev. No such operations are taking place because the rulers in Kiev, who came to power via firebombs and burning tires, know that as soon as their troops start killing their own people, that will be the end of Ukraine. The resulting civil war will resemble that occurring in Syria today: Russians on the east, NATO on the west and the pitiful Ukrainians in the middle.  - TJ Simpson - on Yahoo message boards."

I found this on yahoo message boards.

This guy gets it.
