This Is Your Market; This Is Your Market Without Tuesdays - Redux
The more things change, the more things stay the same. Almost exactly a year ago, we remarked on the massive bifurcation that was occurring in US equity markets based on the crucial fundamental factor known as "day of week." The Dow Jones Industrials average is down 2% in 2014... but absent the crucial day we call "Tuesday", the Dow would be down almost 8%. On average, the Dow is up 0.4% each and every Tuesday this year (and every other day of the week is red on average)... lots of unriggedness here we are sure...
This is the Dow with (and without) Tuesdays...
Compare to a year ago:
And perhaps the most stunning chart of all...
As the Bangles might have said - "just another manic Tuesday"

Terrific Tuesdays! Wooo!
Tyler, is this your way of saying to short in the next ten minutes?
If its Tuesday, this must be BS Ramp Day..
Does anyone think it is the day that the 401k plans and pension funds buy stocks after the previous week's pay days???
Belgium is buying up tons of U.S. Treasuries
Market Watch
April 15, 2014, 3:26 PM ET
Foreign investors loaded up on U.S. treasuries in February at the fastest pace since September of 2011, according to Treasury International Capital transactions data released Tuesday.
The biggest buyer: Belgium.
February marks the latest month where Belgium’s holdings of treasuries has surged, according to the TIC holdings data. That month, the European nation purchased $30.9 billion in Treasuries, bringing its total to $341.2 billion, behind only mega-buyers China and Japan in total holdings.
I tried to tell people yesterday that the bottom was in, was extremely obvious. You seriously think they will let them go below 1800 ever again? Not a chance. I hope the people buying all my index puts enjoy their losses. You can still buy the dip now but better hurry because by the end of the month, if not the end of next week; we will be back to all time highs again.
Well, duh, don't they teach this in Market Fundamentals 101?
Mon: rally, Tue: follow thru, Wed: reverse. Especially on opex.
i know its cuz of central bank work, but what specifically is the Tuesday operation that drives this?
On their home world reptilans are used to three day week ends. The Fed has a lot of 'people' who call in sick on Mondays. The payroll guys know who to let slide and who to call on it. That sickly orange skin color like LaGarde and Boehner or the tightly stretched skin like Pelosi are dead giveaways.
is the tuesday the day where all fed money floods into stocks from prior week settlement?
According to the Bloomberg economic calendar Tuesdays is when the previous weeks bond settlements occur.
What, do theyhand out extra coke at 33 Liberty St. on Tuesdays?
Is that when the plane with diplomatic immunity from Venezuela arrives at JFK?
Do they hand it out at 3:28 p.m. each day?
Inquiring minds want to know....
There's 100% got to be a fraudulent/rigged aspect here.
Maybe 401k and pension money hits the big boys on Tuesdays, HFT artificially bid up prices and "charge" everyone an extra .4% because that's when the money automatically buy, buy, buys?
I get paid on Thursdays and the 401k at my company usually "buys" on Monday, so this checks out. Most people get paid Friday which would delay the "buy" til Tuesdays.
I posted this exact same thought above. The 401k companies and pension plans downsized years ago so the easiest algo is to just buy all on one day. Why program a fancy algo that picks spots to buy throughout the week? Besides you want those programmers programming your internal algos so you can front run your own easy algos.
Tuesdays with Mr Market
Wow. Nadia Comaneci wasn't this flexible! Today should go down in the annals of Opex Olympics.
How low can NASDAQ go during the FED Limbo POMO ? The meniscus is very thin and gravity is now in effect. Meniscus tear Wednesday and the beast pops out ?
Tuesday, afternoon,
I'm just beginning to see,
Now I'm on my way,
It doesn't matter to me,
Chasing the clouds away.
Something, calls to me,
The trees are drawing me near,
I've got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh.
-Moody Blues
Or should i have said "Tuesdays with MOARIE"
Maybe HFT are programmed to buy big on Tuesday because some weeks Tuesday is the first trading day of the week. I remember a "flaw" in some algos when daylight savings time occurred that might give this credence.
What happened this Tuesday then?
When do payroll automatic 401k's hit?
As I said above, I believe most hit Tuesdays. I get paid a day earlier than most (Thursday) and ours hits Mondays.
Makes perfect sense. Probably not a bigger "mark" or easier order to front run than the every two week 401k "buy" order. Most people have no clue what they actually own in their 401k and they will never actually opt out or ask questions so front running them is cake.
Duh....Taco Tuesdays....and who doesn't like tacos?
Tantric Tuesday?
Spin that cotton candy FED! More sugar!
black tuesday sometime in 1929. i don't think there has ever been a black wednesday.
Why do I have that feeling of being at the (rigged) roulette table and seeing string of reds on the ticker?
Just about to place my bet on the next spin being a red..... now the zero is going to hit....
:) NSAs HFTs working like a clock. "Keep The Masses Calm"
One does get the sense that the markets, cable, web and mobile are just all opiates of the masses...sure keeps em out of the streets.
Thanks, Tyler! I went long today before 12 noon and voila -- you were right again! Just sold the position and went short. Let's make it a double.
pomo arigato mr. roboto
Fuck you Feinstein.
And the Hobbit.
Again I say rigged! Over the years we have witnessed the type of market reversal the big banks supported by the Fed can generate with a concerted effort to buy S&P 500 index futures at crucial support points late in the day. This has proved more than enough to turn the markets from red to green in the blink of an eye.
This is a reason for caution! If it looks like a Ponzi scheme, sounds like a Ponzi scheme, and feels like a Ponzi scheme, then it is probably a Ponzi scheme, but that does not guarantee that it is over. More about this subject in the article below.

Rigging of markets, or the obverse de-rigging of regulation law, is precedence for them comming at you anywhere for anything you have. This is all treated as an entertaining game, but the process in all its permutations will not stop with financial markets.
This market is your market, this market is our market.
This market is made for you and me.
pretty sure this is how Woody Guthrie really meant to write it.
