"Pro-Russian Separatists" Attack Ukraine Soldiers With Guns, Molotov Cocktails, Local TV Station Reports (4 Killed, 12 Injured)

Tyler Durden's picture

UPDATE: ABOUT 500 SEPARATISTS ATTACKED UKRAINE MILITARY BASE: TV5

As RT reports,

Four people have reportedly been injured by gunfire in a confrontation between anti-Maidan protesters and soldiers stationed at an Interior Ministry base in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol.

A group of several dozen protesters arrived at the base, located in the turbulent Donetsk region, on Wednesday evening.

They called on the troops to abandon the base, but the soldiers didn't listen, the demonstrators said.

Instead, the troops opened fire at the protesters, injuring at least four people. One of them took a bullet in his chest and is in serious condition, according to protesters.

Some local media claimed the protesters were armed with Molotov cocktails, which they used in the confrontation, but no evidence of this was immediately available.

Unconfirmed reports put the number of casualties higher, with four people killed and as many as 12 injured. Protester chatter blames unidentified provocateurs for triggering the shooting.

Local residents report military jets flying over the city.

Having been on the receiving end of Ukraine special forces for the past 48 hours, it appears the "pro-Russian separatists" have decided to fight back.

  • SEPARATISTS USE GUNS, MOLOTOV COCKTAILS IN MARIUPOL: HROMADSKE
  • SEPARATISTS ATTACK SOLDIERS IN E. UKRAINE'S MARIUPOL: HROMADSKE

Considering the source is a local Ukraine TV station, one should take the news reported by Bloomberg, with a big grain of ketamine, however also considering the 3:30pm ramp appears to be late today (or was front run repeatdly earlier on in the day), this may just be the "bullish" catalyst the "market" needs to close at the day, if not all time, highs.

More as we see it.

Simply substitute the phrase "Pro-Russian Separatists" with "Pissed-off Anti-Fascist/Anti-Nazi Ukrainians" and this story takes on an entirely different meaning...

If you watch the Vice News doc "Russian Roulette" it seems clear to me that these separatists are not pro-Russian. That is just propaganda. The separatists would be much more accurately described as pro-Federation (Ukrainian Federation that is). They don't want to be ruled over by Kiev or the EU.

I was talking to some young men today in our loading yard, passing the time of day. Ukrain, Putin,Obama, the EU cropped up. These young manual, workers, Englishmen from their bad teeth to sarcastic humour were clearly not even a tiny bit taken in by the relentless anti Russia media spin. Their distain for Obama was hillarious and their regard for Putin simple 'he never looks stressed or uncertain'  The MSM gets easier to see through every day.

I guess that just depends on your version of "doom, gloom, and/or recession Porn".

According to the MSM STEALING , KILLING , LYING are ALL great attributes as long as they come from STATE actors.

Listening to a piece on NPR about the history of terrorism. They started by defining terrorism. Terrorist actions taken by the STATE are NOT TERRORISM !!! ? WTF !! Tell it to millions of dead people accross the planet who were killed with weapons manufactured by if not deployed and delivered by the good 'ol US of A.

I was just reading last night that we just gave TOW fucking MISSILES to the "rebels" in Syria !   WTF !!! Are we going to give TOW missiles to the "rebels" in Ukraine. And are we talking about the rebels in the East or the rebels in the West  ? And which are the good rebels and which are the bad rebels ????

Reports from Slavyansk say that the army troops sent to the eastern Ukrainian city for an “anti-terrorist operation” are leaving en masse. Some troops are openly voicing support for the eastern Ukrainians, while others are speaking out against a war.

According to Interfax, citing local self-defense activists, some 300 Ukrainian troops agreed to lay down their weapons and “go home” following negotiations in Slavyansk.

"The United States government is preparing to send non-lethal aid to Ukraine, the Associated Press reported on Wednesday, just one day after the interim government there launched an operation against armed pro-Russian protesters.

White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters during a scheduled briefing in Washington, DC midday Wednesday that the Obama administration is “obviously evaluating requests and looking at ways that we can support the Ukrainian government.” Soon after that same afternoon, the AP reported that the US is indeed in the midst of preparing to provide assistance, according to anonymous sources who confirmed the existence of plans to the newswire but were not yet authorized to discuss the matter publically. Guess we can all rest comfortably that the domestic shale oil production the U.S. will be providing to both Western Europe and U.S. demands will more than satisfy our needs guaranteeing oil independence for many, many, many years to come!...

That is one of the stupidest and most unrealistic arguments I have ever heard.

What next will you claim?  That the US is doing it to harvest sunshine and unicorn dust?

The US is involved for a simple reason - to keep engaged with Europe.   The  whole post WWII order is based on the US having the military might INSTEAD of the european nations.  This was done specifically to put a halt to the CONSTANT EUROPEAN WARS OF THE PREVIOUS TWO HUNDRED (OR MORE) YEARS.

The EU must have energy, will not accept Russia as sole energy provider, and have long, long resented the US's role in the post-war order.

So, lets think a little bit about how any European regime before that post-WWII-order would handle the current crisis given modern technology.

Have you thought about that yet?

I do not condone the US's actions.  I think the US should never have stopped being isolationist.  But before you cast stones on the basis of how this plays out in Europe right now, you should consider the alternatives.

Do I need to remind you that there's really no doubt how Europe reacted to such things before WWII?  Do you think they'd be having a media war?  Do you think they would only use advisors and indirect assistance to the Ukraine?  Or do you think they would find something Russia wanted and needed, take it, and then wait for the Russian forces to leave Ukaine to get it back?

There's zero doubt what the pre-WWII Europe would have done.  It is in the history books.  They DID do it - repeatedly.

Putin has said the US can stop this any time it wants...   But what is it that the US could stop? Stop Europe from wanting energy? Stop Europe from trying to get it?  Stop the EU from resenting the US hegemony?

Are you serious?  How? Using LSD and folk-singing?

The only choice anyone has  in this is who will lead the dance, and the tactics that that lead will be willing to employ.

What's your preference? Do you like the post WWII order better or the pre-WWII order better?

Tick. Tock.  The Dollar is almost done.  When it is, you'll get that old pre-WWII order back.   ENJOY!

So, can we stop the chest beating and triumphalism?  Governments suck.  Imagining that they don't is willful blindness.

If this most recent attack in Mariupol is like the police station attack a couple of days ago, what we are seeing is anarchy.  There does not appear to be anyone in charge on either side of this dispute.  The Gorlovka attack looks to have a large number of pissed off citizens mad at their organs of government.

When you are walked on, ruled by outsiders, for centuries it leaves a mark.

I feel sorry for the Ukrainians.

And while Putin's propaganda organs have been working overtime, I do not trust Putin.  I do not trust the gangsters in his government any more than I trust the banksters in the EU or the US governments.

This keeps happening, world war after world war, because people cannot define 'Right' in any way except as 'MIGHT'.  So...the strong get what they want.  The rest become slaves.

Maybe a nuclear war wouldnt' be such a bad thing.  Emerging from the Ash there would be a lot of unclaimed wilderness to flee to in order to be left alone.

You've been watching Channel 1 too much.

You mean like the USA made Chechens hate Russians? All that hatered for Russia exists only because the US wants to carve Russia up? So how long have you been on drugs?

Or do you mean that Western Ukrainians really, really loved Russians before those assholes Kerry and McCain visited?  They were just kidding since the end of the Kievan Rus? Right?  Only Washington made the trouble?

GARBAGE!  I can't believe you believed that junk.  He'd have been better off saying that the US discovered a time machine and had been travelling back in time to stir up hate against Russia over the centuries.

Yes, yes, I know.  Putin talks to God, walks on water, and farts Channel number five.

Sorry that I can't contain my disdain for these views.  What garbage!

Putin is a politician like any other.  And like any other Politiician, when they go looking for trouble over the border they find it.  And at first everything seems good.

It is what comes next that sucks.  But there are none so blind as those who will not see.

Did it occur to you that the reason why OBUMMER and crew are so badly bungling their leadership of the Maidan is because they aren't leading it, but reacting to it?

Obummer is more interested in helping dismantle the US - and it shows.  Obummer never knew as much about world relations as a fifth-grader, and has since forgotten even that pitiful sum!

I'll be glad to be rid of NATO.  Much as I like the member countries, I don't like fighting their wars or paying their taxes for defense.  NATO was worse than useless after WWII anyway.

But don't kid yourself.  If Russia is dealing with the US now and wants that to end, it will get to deal with a more European face later.

And keep in mind, over 50 years of cold war, the US - to its credit- managed to stay out of war with Russia.  With which previous regime from Rome to WWII can the same be said?

Now they have to come up with some fancy alibi about why the $5 billion was sent to feed the Kiev mobs and set up a puppet government. Of course the media will go along with anything they're ordered to report since they have even less of a grasp of history than the DC malcontents who started the whole thing.

Croats, Serbs, Bosnians, got a divorce. Albanians in Kosovo got a divorce courtesy of NATO. Czhecks and Slovaks got a divorce. But the Ukrainians love there Russian brothers so much they can't bear to be parted? No it's about what the West wants and what they'll pay.

Now it should be noted that the Iraqi Kurds wanted a divorce. Their grounds for divorce were obviously iron clad but that didn't eventuate even though the US invaded the country, ya know, to make people "free". Well that and WMDs.

So human rights and self determination aren't that important if it isn't in the interests of Imperialism 2.0.

"not a democracy"

It never was. It was never intended to be. The Founders made plenty of statements on this point, so the effort to suppress their words over the years was pretty strong and rather successful. For fuck's sake the franchise (of voting) was never intended to extend beyond the propertied and moneyed classes comprised of Protestant white men.

And by republic was simply meant "not a monarchy". The "republic" in constitutional republic is simply to distinguish it from a (constitutional) monarchy, which was the default in the European tradition at that time.

None of these popular words mean what people seem to think they mean.

Next we'll have some tenured and handsomely rewarded Ivy League idiot use federal grant money to tell us that the US is *GASP* still in fact a secular state which *GASP* nonetheless espouses traditionally Protestant Christian values in its rhetoric. Whochouldanode!
