Russia Confirms Troop Build-Up Near Ukraine; Warns West, More Sanctions "Absolutely Unacceptable"

Tyler Durden's picture

For the first time, Russia has confirmed that it has built up its military presence on the Ukrainian border (according to Agence France Presse). On the heels of the de-escalation and the West's threat of tougher sanctions (if Russia failed to abide by the new 'deal'), Kremlin spokesman Dmirty Peskov told Rossiya TV that "we have troops in different regions, and there are troops close to the Ukrainian border. Some are based there, others have been sent as reinforcements due to the situation in Ukraine." Reuters also reports that Washington statements "are unlikely to help dialogue," and further sanctions would be "absolutely unacceptable." It seems the 'deal' has done little to calm anything but the US equity market as Peskov blasted "You can't treat Russia like a guilty schoolboy."

The Daily Mail's latest update on suspected (now confirmed) Russian troop build-up

As Al Arabiya reports, a Kremlin spokesman confirmed Friday that Russia has built up its military presence on the Ukrainian border, Agence France Presse reported, as the United States warned that Moscow would face tougher sanctions if it failed to abide by a new international deal on Ukraine.

"We have troops in different regions, and there are troops close to the Ukrainian border. Some are based there, others have been sent as reinforcements due to the situation in Ukraine," spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Rossiya 1 television, AFP reported.

...

Peskov said Russia would not be the only party held responsible for implementing the agreement on easing tensions in Ukraine, according to AFP.

He added that threats of further sanctions by Washington were "absolutely unacceptable.”

"Our Western colleagues are trying to push responsibility [for implementing the deal] toward our side. But it must be underlined: it is a collective responsibility," Peskov said.

Reuters adds that President Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said, "Statements like those made at a high level in Washington that the United States will follow in detail how Russia fulfils its obligations ... are unlikely to help dialogue,"

"You can't treat Russia like a guilty schoolboy who has to put a cross on a piece of paper to show he has done his homework," Peskov said in an interview with Russia's First Channel. "That kind of language is unacceptable."

Russia's Foreign Ministry accused U.S. officials of seeking to whitewash what it said was the use of force by the Ukrainian government against protesters in the country's mainly Russian-speaking eastern provinces.

"The blame for the Ukrainian crisis and its current aggravation is unreasonably being placed on Russia," the ministry said in a statement.

"The American side is once again stubbornly trying to whitewash the current actions of Kiev's authorities, who have embarked on a course for the violent suppression of protesters in the southeast who are expressing their legitimate indignation over the infringements of their rights."

De-Escalation off...

It's all just theatre.

Either side can literally vaporise the other with the push of a button.

The US hedgemony forgets that it exists under the crosshairs of a continent full of Russian plutonium armed supersonic ICBM's all with random path guidance systems.

Let's not forget what *real* power is. It ain't how high you can piss or how many sport franchises you own. It ain't how much paper you can fart into world markets or how many bullets you can put down.

Real power is the ability to atomize any capital city in any hemisphere. Just think about that for a second.

Real power is the ability to flatten the global economic playing field down to gross agricultural yield.

Real power is the ability to envoke a global nuclear winter. Real power is having an apocalypse button on you desk next to your telephone. Who cares about liquidating treasuries when you atomize 500 cities.

Vladimir Putin has real power. Power far beyond any fiscal or monetary sanctions. Putin has the power to poison the entire earth. To wipe away everyone and everything. The power to reset to 500AD.

Why pretend that he can be influenced by restricting his friends access to various banking systems? Surly this is hilarious to him?

The beauty of MAD is that the more you have to lose the weaker you are.

Sanctions make Putin stronger.

Sanctions work for Barry O, because he's not interested in a strong ecomony comprized of a autonomous, free, empowered citizenry.

Collapse and chaos is what autocrats like Barry O want. The Democratic Party relies on disenfranchized, desperate, broken individuals, which results from their demented relativist ideology, so then Government can come into the inevitable quagmire and dictate terms.

Background here;

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-04-12/ukraine-sends-special-forces-de...

This is speculation but it appears as this was some form of retribution killing due to the fact that this man resigned when requested to do so by the protestors against the Kiev putschists.

Further speculation is that the video was created as a warning for other groups / individuals who may decide to stand down or agree to protestor demands. faced with the dissolution of the 25th Airborne Rgt when it was ordered into the area, this murder and video is part of a need to enforce the authority of Kiev.

Sometimes you have to cut your losses. Been there......... The BRICS and G20 realize that the US will not to do anything to undermine the fragile "recovery" at home and it's reserve currency status, so they have given the US until the end of 2014 to vote on changing IMF voting rights or else. It will take time for the BRICS to replace the financial systems that the US has a stranglehold on, but it will happen. It's going to be death by a thousand cuts with each percentage point of inflation coming our way. If you want a large ticket foreign produced item, I would buy it now..........

The US is a debtor of China, but I get your drift. Time is the critical element. China doesn't seem like it's bent on radical change for the sake of change. The US seems hell bent on destroying the dollar so the BRICS might just have to get out of the way for things to their way.

Not inflation, more like a return to the sort of prices everyone else (Globally) has to pay.

I note the screams of anguish arising from having to pay "almost $4 per gallon Premium Gas". Wonder how long "The Wheels of the Economy" will be turning is you start paying the sort of prices for petrol alone, that are seen throughout Europe for example.

The UK Automobile Association is happy that UK petrol prices are "at a three-year low" - $ 2.17 per LITRE, which is about $ 8.21 per US Gallon.

Seeing as the US consumes about 133 billion gallons petrol annually (2012 figures - maybe a bit less nowadays owing to "austerity"?) http://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.cfm?id=23&t=10, an extra $4.20 per gallon = $550 billion. Hardly "loose change", especially since the travelling public (and those who provide transport) will be facing this substantial "sticker shock"!

Is Walmart printing? When Walmart purchases from a supplier in China, that supplier needs Yuan to pay for its operation. It takes those dollars to an affiliated agency of the PBOC and receives freshly printed yuan for them. The PBOC buys treasuries with the dollars for convenience and security. The Chinese government could reduce barriers to imports and the yuan would be exchanged for dollars and then for imports. They choose not to. Is this because they prefer the inflation? Do they see a vendor finance model as the way to go? Or is it a strategy to keep revolution at bay? Other possibilities exist.

More Kerry's talking points revealed as propaganda (remember his lies about sarin in Syria?):

‘Letter to Jews’, which Kerry cited, appears to be fake

Published time: April 18, 2014 12:07
Edited time: April 18, 2014 20:10

A letter urging the Jews of Donetsk to get registered, which the US Secretary of State cited in Geneva, is a fake says a man whose signature appears on the communication.

Following the four-side meeting on the Ukrainian crisis in Geneva on Wednesday, John Kerry lashed out at a letter that was allegedly sent to Jewish citizens in Ukraine’s eastern town of Donetsk, asking them to register and report all their property, or be stripped of citizenship and face expulsion.

In year 2014, after all of the miles traveled in all the journey of history, this is not just intolerable, it's grotesque… beyond unacceptable," he stated.

Images of the letter have been circulating online.

The letter was stamped and signed by Denis Pushilin, who was identified on it as the “People’s Governor.”

However, Pushilin denied he had anything to do with the letter, claiming it was a fake.

http://rt.com/news/fake-news-ukraine-russia-364/

Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry, US ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power and other top officials declared categorically that the August 21 attack on Eastern Ghouta, which reportedly killed hundreds of people, had been carried out by the Syrian military. They, along with the leaders of Britain and France, sought to use the gas attack to stampede public opinion behind their plans to attack Syria, cripple the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, and install a puppet government.

Nice.

The problem is that Brock is hot for the Undertaker's wife, so his elbow to the balls was real.  The Undertaker's pissed and his roundhouse has connected to Brock's cheek.  The ref is shocked to see real blood and doesn't know what to do.  Undertaker's wife has jumped into the ring, screaming at Undertaker to stop, while giving Brock a sly wink.

Hopefully, under the bright stage lights, Brock's noticing that Undertaker's wife is a bit too skanky to be worth it.

We dont want to foot the bill for Ukraine when the mess was started by Vitoria Nulland and Russia would get Crimeia and influence in the eastern part and US get the Kiev Junta controlled and the western part. Not even our candidate boxer get in the junta.

That topic was also covered in Putin's recent Q&A with the citizens of Russia:

.

"DMITRY KISELEV: Good afternoon, Mr Putin. They’ve promised us the video question format, and I was eager to support it in some way. But since we’re having some technical problems, I’ll create an image with my fingers. Here’s a ring, and it seems to me our country is inside it. I have a feeling that someone is stifling me. I think this is NATO because it is spreading like a cancerous tumour. In the past 25 years, this bloc has literally swallowed our Warsaw Treaty allies, then some parts of the Soviet Union, and the Baltic states. It has opened its jaws to swallow Georgia and now Ukraine as well.

Officials at the NATO headquarters say that it would make sense to admit Ukraine into NATO as well, whereas you’re saying that the bloc system is dying out. I cannot agree with that because I feel this bloc is stifling me. Of course, you can call me paranoid, to attribute this to paranoia. But even if someone has paranoia, it doesn’t mean he isn’t harassed. So it’s not about me, but about NATO’s expansion. Where is the red line? Does it exist at all? And what do you feel as the national leader? Nothing personal, Mr Putin. Thank you.

VLADIMIR PUTIN: We’ll strangle all of them ourselves! Why are you so afraid? (Applause.)

DMITRY KISELEV: No, I’m not afraid, of course. I just want to know where the red line is and where to stop. Are there limits, and who will define them? Thank you.

VLADIMIR PUTIN: We aren’t afraid – neither me nor anyone else. Nobody should be afraid, but we must proceed from reality. As for reality, you’ve just described it rather vividly in your brilliant manner and given us the creeps in some way. Let me repeat that I wouldn’t fear anything, but we must assess the situation realistically. So what is it like? You’ve conjured up the image.

At one time, we were promised (I mentioned this at the Munich security conference) that after Germany’s unification, NATO wouldn’t spread eastward. The then NATO Secretary-General told us that the alliance wouldn’t expand beyond its eastern borders. However, it started expanding by incorporating former Warsaw Treaty member-countries and later on, the Baltic states, former Soviet republics.

I used to say at one time: “Why are you doing this? Do you want to ensure the security of these countries? Do you think someone may attack them? Well, it’s enough to sign a bilateral treaty on friendship and mutual assistance, including military aid, and their security will be ensured.”  I heard in response: “This doesn’t concern you. Nations and countries have the right to choose a way of ensuring their security themselves.”

All right, this is true. But it is also true that when the infrastructure of a military bloc approaches our borders, we have grounds for certain apprehensions and questions. We must take certain steps, and this is also true; nobody can deny us this right. And this compels us to counteract..."

Putin knows what's going on.

.

April 17, 2014

Sergei Lukas: Mr Putin, who stands to profit from the overblown myth that Russia’s Armed Forces are preparing for an invasion in Ukraine? What goals are pursued by those who want to set us against our brothers, neighbours and European partners? And can we openly invite all those willing to visit our cross-border regions? Thank you.

Vladimir Putin: The intention to split Russia and Ukraine, to separate what is essentially a single nation in many ways, has been an issue of international politics for centuries. If you recall the statements uttered by the White movement leaders, you’ll see that regardless [of] their political disagreements with the Bolsheviks, they never had even the slightest thought about a possible division between Ukraine and Russia, as they always perceived them as part of a common, united space and a single nation. And they were absolutely right.

But today we’re are living in separate countries. And, unfortunately, this policy of division, of pulling apart and weakening both parts of a single nation continues. There are enough forces in the world that are afraid of our strength, “our hugeness,” as one of our sovereigns said. So, they seek to divide us into parts, this is a well-known fact. Look at what they did with Yugoslavia: they cut it into small pieces and are now manipulating everything that can be manipulated there, which is almost anything. Apparently, someone would like to do the same with us, and if you look at what’s happening, you’ll be able to answer your own question about who is doing what."

Wouldn't a story like this be something akin to Russia calling into question the many military bases between the borders of the U.S. and Canada having, well... lots of bases... and well... lots of troops near thoses bases and borders!

The U.S. has too many troops amassed from it's bases in New York, Michigan, Montana and Wasington State to it's neighbor in Canada so something ANYTHING must be done to stop it!...  This is provacative (cause we say so) and it must be called into question before the United States DOES SOMETHING!!!!

Like I've said here today previously at President Obama's recent speech with "Major Garrett of CBS news"  Yessss!!!! But of course CBS News??? the guys that brought you Mike Lewis and Brad Katsyuama of IEX Group to help us understand the complexities HFT and how it will be fixed!

Is anyone truly asking how any American President with the responsibility of 75,000 nuclear warheads under his control can say such remarkable "smack" like this without somebody ANYBODY in the Press asking if the President's mental health and fitness is sound after this speech?

God Help All of Us!

Interesting info from Wikipedia:

Thirty percent of Russian Armed Forces' personnel were contract servicemen at the end of 2005.[31] For the foreseeable future, the Armed Forces will be a mixed contract/conscript force.[31] The Russian Armed Forces need to maintain a mobilization reserve to have manning resources capable of reinforcing the permanent readiness forces if the permanent readiness forces cannot deter or suppress an armed conflict on their own.[32]

The ranks of the Russian military are also open to non-Russian citizens of the Commonwealth of Independent States, of which Russia is the largest member.[33] By December 2003, the Russian parliament had approved a law in principle to permit the Armed Forces to employ foreign nationals on contract by offering them Russian citizenship after several years service.[34] Yet up to 2010, foreigners could only serve in Russia's armed forces after getting a Russian passport. Under a 2010 Defence Ministry plan, foreigners without dual citizenship would be able to sign up for five-year contracts and will be eligible for Russian citizenship after serving three years.[35][36] The change could open the way for CIS citizens to get fast-track Russian citizenship, and counter the effects of Russia's demographic crisis on its army recruitment.

Awards and decorations of the Armed Forces are covered at Awards and Emblems of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation.

On 17 November 2011, General Nikolai Makarov said that Russia had reached a crisis in the conscript service where there simply were not sufficient able bodied men to draft and was forced to halve its conscription.[37]

It's no wonder then that the Russian Federation so heavily relies on nukes as a deterrent.

We are dealing with a country, Russia, that sends troops into combat situations with no insignia and with masks.  Everything must be viewed with this in mind.

Trust but verify.

So now they are upping their demands and their faux concerns in order to exact some concessions and stall for time.

The Little Princess who leads Russia will require a confrontation by military forces in order to check his ambitions.

Any other prediction is laughable and will likely lead to a greater risk of a still larger conflict.  And I say this as one who feels Assad in Syria is a far lesser threat than the Jihadis trying to overthrow him...and I believe the gas attacks blamed on Syria have all been false flag operations.

We had Obumble talk earlier about the US conventional forces being far stronger than Russia's forces, Rasmussen at NATO upping the anti, more planes, more ships more soldiers to boost the Baltic and Black Sea partners, blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada ...

Words to the wise from a former Cold War warrior. The Russian's do not do 'over reach', this is their back garden and the battle maps just needed to be dusted off. Crimea and Georgia actions illustrated that. They don't post warnings on trees and street corners, they act decisively and without fear of repercussions.

Logistically, the Russians will have no issues supporting ground troops if the green to go order comes over the net. The FSB and GRU is working around the clock in Ukraine and they can pull strings at their will. If anyone reading this thinks if three independent armoured companies of T-90's backed up by only eight to ten thousand troops will not secure Eastern Ukraine up to the Dneiper they are living in a dream land.

Hague, Rasmussen, Kerry and McCain can bleat all they want. Over the next 30 days if the Maidan / Nuland crowd up the ante, go false flag and go for a You Tube atrocity of any description and they probably not possibly will, expect fireworks and a Russian victory procession in an East Ukraine town near you.

The Wife's Russian relatives are all ex-Military, and all held significant Commissions.  Their thoughts are that whenever Russia has been involved in any major conflict, the Russian people expect significant (very significant) casualties, and seem to be psychologically and temperamentally in acceptance of that.

Compare that mindset with America - even a few casualties, and it's Worldwide News for days on end.

An important difference in attitude, and one that has so often  been overlooked in the past, with predictable consequences for the aggressor.

Russians (and Ukrainians too) are very good listeners. They are genuinely interested in what's going on elsewhere, and are extremely literate (even at the "bottom end" of the social scale). This is but one reason why they come across as polite, considered, and pretty smart.

Getting to the rank of Colonel in the Intelligence Service will certainly call for an exceptional ability (even by Russian standards). It shows, doesn't it.

Then, the US has Obama - Missing University Transcripts, no-one remembers him being at College (must have been the hub of the social Universe!), but somehow manages to get the rather plum position as Editor of the Harvard Law Journal, and a Professorship in "Constitutional Law" (very useful when your "Unofficial, but actual" job is the dissolution of that rather troublesome document I suppose!)

A very interesting comparison, don't you think  ? ? ? ?
