Sergey Lavrov: "If Russian Troops Or People Attacked, We'll Retaliate"

Tyler Durden's picture

It took Joe Biden just a day after his arrival in Kiev to kill and bury the last remaining hope that last week's latest attempt at diplomatic de-escalation in Geneva would actually be anything more than a joke. A few hours ago, in a statement posted on the parliament website, Ukraine acting President Oleksandr Turchynov said that pro-Russian separatists have "crossed line" adding that East Ukraine is currently controlled by “terrorists” supported by Russia.

In other words, the same old song and dance.

Which is why this time Russia made it quite clear to issue a warning that the next time there is a provocation against its soldiers or, more importantly, against its people, those in East Ukraine to be specific, it would retaliate. Once again, Obama's "costs" message is lost on Putin...

RT reported moments ago that "Russia will retaliate if it is attacked and the interests of the Russian people are threatened" citing Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov. He alleged the US has a hand in the current stand-off in Ukraine between the coup-appointed government and anti-Maidan activists.

In an interview with RT’s Sophie Shevardnadze, Sergey Lavrov said that Washington “is running the show” in the Ukrainian crisis.

“There is no reason not to believe that the Americans are running the show,” said Lavrov, referencing US Vice President Joe Biden’s visit to Kiev and its coincidence with the renewed counter-terror operation on activists in East Ukraine.

“It’s quite telling they chose the moment of the Vice President of the US’ visit to announce the resumption of this operation because the launching of this operation happened immediately after John Brennon’s [head of the CIA] visit to Kiev,” said Lavrov.

It remains to be seen if this latest re-escalation of the Ukraine crisis, which also has killed any hope of a diplomatic resolution, will be just as bullish or more bullish than last Thursday's response which send stocks ramping higher when the Geneva "de-escalation" agreement was announced.

The Ukrainians are just like the people you see everyday everywhere, just trying to make a living and raise their family. I feel for them, getting squeezed between a west hell bent on using their backyard as the next tank proving ground and the Russians who once damn near starved them into extinction and now want to be their BFF. There is no good guy in this clusterfuck. They are stuck in the middle of two drunks that are about to start throwing shit and swinging wildly.

comparing what the Soviet Union under Stalin did to Ukraine to today's Russian policy is pretty stupid. Just as an example, since 2009, the Russians have provided gas discounts to Ukraine worth around $35bn. Modern Russia has been fairly accomodating & friendly towards their freeloading neighbours, even when that neighbour sometimes tries to bite the hand that feeds it.

Hardly freeloaders, the Ukraine is the breadbasket to Russia and the entire area.

The discounts were good business not Russian niceties.

Earlier It was postulated that the COG (continuation of government) model provides for the command and control of finance during a conflict. I would go further and say that ALL the indices DOW etc. are now RUNNING IN A COMPUTER MODEL, literally contained.

I'd say it started right after the last dip. It's supposed to demonstrate how "strong and resilient" our economy APPEARS. We are probably running now on some kind of defcon 4.

The economy has gone full fake, like the media has been.

It's all just a living lie... like pretending that man has actually set foot on the moon, Oswald shot Kennedy, and a little kerosene and aluminum caused two (well, three) steel and concrete skyscrapers to collapse at freefall speed.

I even suggest that HFT is part of the "mask" making it hard to read the machine in the numbers. More depressing it's likely leaked to the 1% who are mainlining cash even faster than that going out through the QE grift. And they will never, ever turn it off. This war may kill the goose, and many perfectly functioning human beings.

The huge irony in all this world hegemony thing, is that the USA could have had it all, just by playing nicely.

The USA was from the 1870s onwards the ideal mix of 200 years of self-selecting talented immigrants who forged a near-empire on one land mass, had nearly limitless resources (when you count a cosy relationship with Canada), and a vibrant and inventive entrepreneurial  spirit, second to none.

The USA was pushing on an open door. What happened guys?

It could have out-produced, out-built and out-knowledged the whole planet without firing a shot.

The biggest shame (or crime, even) was wasting that marvellous instrument of human emancipation - The American Constitution.

What a waste.

This is what makes being an American so fucking embarrassing.

If the majority in this Country took the time to read the very public statements made in front of the UN and sources other than the MSM, they would know that Russia has given the U.S. every opportunity to "share the provisions" in oil and mineral deals in Eastern Europe as well as providing logistics through their territory to many destinations in Central and South Asia now ALL GONE because of our sheer greed and stupidity.

Watching the damage from all of the worst choices we can possibly make is nothing less than breathtaking.

Yes. There was opportunity after the collapse of the USSR for the USA accept a 'european' Russia & incorporate that idea into foreign policy. Instead, NATO forgot what NATO was for ( job done, I think?) and gave rise to the only repsonse available to a humbled and threatened Russia - Putin.  You can't really blame the Russians for that.

The need for the (effective) repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act may also have been avoided thus - and wouldn't things have turned out better for that. The USA put itself on a collision course with physics and exponential number.

The Progressives happened.  Their economic and government authority ideas (which closely resemble those of "Brave New Wolrd") were implemented.

Their central failures (or successes depending on point of view) is in the susceptability of central power to corruption and failure to comprehend the broken window fallacy as well as other simple economic precepts.

They have destroyed America from the inside with the take over of the State Department, The EPA, the Department of Education, and more. From this power-base they have stolen the sanity, education, goodwill and wealth of an entire nation and pissed it away in a greed filled F'ck fest.

Hard to understand why so many people want to see rivers of blood flowing in Ukraine.  I mean, OK, obviously Obama would LOVE to see white people killing each other.  And, yeah, I guess that also includes the pissed-off co-religionists of the oligarchs who have been arrested, booted out by Putin, who are best budds with the owners of the major "news" services.  They'd LOVE to see dead Russians and Ukrainians, too.  Merkel is doing what she's told by the Brussels bastards.  Chevron wants the gas fields in Ukraine, Monsanto is hot for new place to plant their genetically modified poisons, and Ukraine has all that fertile land.  Then there are the manufacturers of war gear and the "ecoonomists" who think that war is good for business, so you should "invest your sons."

Yes, I just don't understand who has much to gain from another fratricidal war, like WWI.  Whoever they are, they need to be searched out and strung up.

Russia is going to seize the Eastern Ukraine regions.  He has to.  That's where the main junctions and pumping stations for the pipelines are located.

Putin is just looking for a Casus Belli good enough to commit his people given the amount of suffering this will cause.

Biden, DCIA, McCain, and all the rest want to provoke the situation there as much as possible as well.  But they don't want Russia to annex it.  They want it to turn into a UN peacekeeping mission.  Europe and the Gulf States stand to benefit if Ukrainian pipelines are open to Gulf gas and oil.  The majority of nations who would provide the peacekeepers would come from those nations.

This, as well as proving its continuing relevance to Europe, is why the US is trying so hard to put a US face on events in Ukraine, while materially doing very little.

And the US is doing very little.   While Russia has put more than 40,000 troops on the border of  Ukraine, and another 100,000 near the Baltic States, the US has sent 600 troops who were already in Europe.

Q: Where are the US tanks that are supposed to defend Europe per the NATO Treaty?

A: Texas, Kansas, & Kentucky

Despite the hot rhetoric and prominent faces, there's no THERE there.

"They want it to turn into a UN peacekeeping mission."...

"Yes"... Code speak for another war only this time against an adversary that has the largest nuclear weapons inventory next to the U.S. in the World.  But with what troop forces given everyplace else the U.S. has it's footprint and conventional weapons systems that are either obsolete or newer ones too costly to maintain?...  More importantly where will that money to pay for it ALL come from?...

This isn't going to be WWI or WWII and Washington, Tel Aviv and London know it!

The only way they will successfully "circle the wagons" and kick-start it this time is through an "event" that will kill thousands or hundreds of thousands like a Fukushima only much faster and all-at-once!

Once that little event takes place we are either going to see mass executions of both the Judicial and Legislative in the streets of D.C., or we will follow the sheep herders just as we did after 9/11 and everytime since 1914!

A little background . As reported RIA "Novosti" with reference to a source in law enforcement bodies of Ukraine , April 7 , immediately after the capture of the regional state administration building in Donetsk and Lugansk SBU in the region were urgently deployed three divisions , equipped interior troops , militants "right sector " and U.S. mercenaries. The report said the ownership of the last time for «Blackwater». Their task source formulated as fast and as hard disassembly with protesters while mentioning about the gear in the form of mercenary squad Ukrainian SWAT " Sokol ». In this form, they , in fact, were caught . They say that in the area Sloviansk "high professionals" from the U.S. at a fast pace and clearly blocked the crowd of civilians surrounded the perimeter of " polite " and " friendly " men armed with Kalashnikovs . Deeming it best to disarm and present American identity ( Ukrainians were only two drivers ) , a group of mercenaries with the " controller " and " well-wishers " disappeared without a trace in the vast land of Donetsk , and where it is now , no one in the know. Although people in the know say them whether " stopped ", or " flown " from afar, from the organization , capable to parse their specific accent " inglisha.

The English is broken but the point is clear.Got to wonder if ole Biden was also working on behalf of Greystone to negotiate a prisoner release. Just would be more proof that these so called independent mercenary groups are not so independent. Do you really want a hot war over a bunch of mercenaries who got caught in the act?
