Speaking of asshats, there are some mind-numbingly stupid people out there. Reading the comments on other sites about this mess in Ukraine is truly painful. What's worse is they regurgitate MSM propaganda like good little parrots and somehow believe they're "intelligent" and "informed," that they actually know exactly what's going on in the world. You can read their comments and almost hear the voices of the talking heads who fed them the bullshit sandwich.

It's disturbingly easy to determine whether someone gets his or her news from Brian Williams or Sean Hannity or an NPR windbag.

Americans have never been very informed or astute regarding international politics.  The ignorance continues to be painful.  We're somewhat dumb as a whole.  Nuances are far beyond this population, always black and white.

Reading comment boards at CNN, CBS, ABC -- they are so loaded with brain-dead democrat Obama lovers I can't read them.  The only opposing comments come if a story is linked to Drudge.  I won't even comment about sites like the Huffington Post.  As to the brain-dead Fox News types, they are parrots as well, but sometimes I'm more sympathetic to their viewpoint.  I"m never sympathetic to the left.

That's a characteristic of Democracies!

Why?

It's so simple, but not one in thousands understands the mechanism:

Propaganda is evil, right?

But what does a judge to come closer to the truth? Audiatur et altera pars! He listens to BOTH sides and he does NOT expect one side to inform him objectively.

What do you write into your CV and how do you present yourself? What do men and women, when they have a date?

Everyone presents himself in a positive light. EVERYTHING IN OUR EXISTENCE IS PROPAGANDA.

But if everything is propaganda, then why should it be demonized?

Who demonized it?

The ones, who invented "FREE PRESS".

Until the lie of "free press" was invented, people knew, that they can't fully trust any newspaper.

But "free press" is the trick, that makes people believe, there was no propaganda but only objective information!

The trick with the "free press" is eliminating critical thinking, because people no longer are fearful to be fed false propaganda!

While people in regimes which have open censorship or admit to make propaganda, are making people read between the lines. If you know you are hearing censored news, you are more critical as if you believe you were informed objectively.

There is good and bad propaganda. Propaganda can be right or can be wrong.

But what definately does not exist is NO propaganda. A "free press" never existed.

But people in democracies believe they were living in a society without propaganda. Crazy isn't it? It took me some time to fully grasp this. The matrix we were put in is simply incredible.

Againstthelie, this may or may not help refine your theory "The Greater Meaning Of Free Speech":

Officially implemented, as a federal law recognized by all states, citizens would only have to gather a group with a common understanding based in facts, of information reasonably shown as vital, also showing how the presentation/perspective of such is currently lacking from the public information with significant distribution, satisfying the requisites public must have to involve the law in the creation of an understanding of the vital information from which can come; forgiveness, tolerance, acceptance, respect, trust, friendship and love, protecting life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Citizens with issues developed in this way, and a relatively small petition qualifying, would have a right to see compulsive state and federal control over network broadcasting licensure in order to compel adequate production funding and national broadcasting during prime time television to effect the education of the public on given subjects.

Therefore Plutocrats LOVE Democracy and the second biggest lie ever: free press.

They know that people recognize a gun and that they are not intelligent enough to recognize the power of money and that it is mightier than the sword and all kings - if it is allowed to rule - which Democracy guarantees...

If you are on the dark side, you simply must love Democracy.

Hey Element, OT, but what are your thoughts on Australia's announcement of the purchase of additional F35's.

Sat, 04/26/2014 - 02:37 | 4696861 Element
Element's picture

It's about time -- seriously.

I know its in some curious way 'popular' (or something) to slag it off on capability and price but I think that's complete BS. I put time into studying that jet's systems and its potential and application. I'm very confident it will far exceed all such critical expectation.

The very same sort of thing happened when the F-14D was canned, and the F/A-18E/Fs replaced all the Tomcats. Everyone called the Hornet a slow useless uncompetitive piece-of-shit, and now people who converted to it from Tomcats thinks it's absolutely shit-hot and pwns in air-to-air in a way the Tomcat didn't and is the best there is at ground-attack.

The F-35s will also be an unsurpassed jet for a long time, and yes I know about all the other fifth gen competition. The F-35 is something that goes well beyond the super hornet and it will take a long time for the Chinese or Russian efforts to match the systems and sensors, let alone negate them, or defeat the F-35 in air to air. Or to effectively prevent it from striking any ground target that it is required to hit. I can't see how they think they're going to stop it.

As for the Australian incremental purchase the numbers are low at 72 so far.

Frankly I think Australia is foolish trying to operate only five attack squadrons but at least its better than four (which was really three in practice, and only one ready to fight as any given moment).

My guess is that after we get rid of the classic hornet fleet and the F-35s fill their place the pressure will be building to keep all the super hornets out to about 2035 or so, and to buy a fourth and fifth F-35 squadron. Each squadron is 24 aircraft, so that would make for an air force of about 150 top-notch strike-fighters. I personally think the need to project strike-cred in that time-frame means that's what they'll do.

But that represents a hell of a lot of self-defending and self-escorting repeatable whoop-ass potential with long-range stealthy stand-off weapons that can hit practically anything, anytime. There's no regional air force or navy that could survive that. Plus the defensive capability combined with JORN's cuing (which is accurate enough for missile guidance updates in flight prior to seeker activation) an attacker can forget about trying to get to Australia with an effective attacking force. They're going to be seen very early and intercepted and not going to survive to get within range of anything that actually matters to the military outcome. And the option will exist to also populate the two new Navantia LHDs with 6 x F-35B each, if it comes to that.

The other point to make is that the national Vigilaire battle network system that's been built for the F-35 and Wedgetail to slot into is now on 100 gigabit fiber at this point. That system and the sensors attached to it and its bandwidth will be second to none for a very long time. It was designed to be a massive force-multiplier and to be able to expand as needed to any required level. You can basically plug-'n-play the whole US military into it, as required.

http://www.defence.gov.au/dmo/esd/air5333/index.cfm

http://www.airforce.gov.au/News/Green-light-for-Vigilare-system/?RAAF-pH...

Note also that JORN exhibits the precision tracking needed to guide both long-range air-launched and naval launched missiles to ideal seeker activation points to go active and engage any aircraft or ship in the region without warning, from a sensor that 3,000 to 4,000 kilometers away. Can you imagine that system with a multipurpose hypersonic strike-missile that flies to its targets at Mach 9 and can not be shotdown by any existing SAM system? That's what's in joint development.

Thus for Canberra the F-35 is a no-brainer which fits the stealth-strike and stealth air-to-air engagement role perfectly. RAAF (and the whole ADF in fact) will see an entire enemy force approach in real-time, from regional range. With JORN datalink any flight of F-35s can tactically choose to not be detected at any point prior to firing. RAAF was explicit about this during a parliamentary inquiry a few years back saying their intent was to engage and disengage undetected, on terms in which there was no possibility for an opponent to fight back, or to survive. They literally stated that the intent of the system and method of employment was to engage a hostile force only once the outcome was essentially a foregone conclusion.

So that's the stealth info-system they've designed and built specifically with the intent of the F-35A slotting into it. The real-time national sensor network (using ~240 sensor systems) has just gone into full operation, so this is not going to be like any strike-fighter previously. Its capability to win in the air and strike targets on the ground will go way beyond anything prior. This is not just about the jet it's about the system that feeds it data, which allows it to remain passive and unseen, while seeing everything for thousands of kilometers. There's nothing in Asia which comes close to it today. That system is already networked to every aircraft, drone, ship, sub and army vehicle and weapon in the ADF. Even sensors on missiles feed their data and video back into Vigilaire in near real-time, so every target is prosecuted as quickly as possible and every weapon performance and effect is logged.

If the US buys the numbers of that jet they say they want to, I don't see any country challenging US air power in any serious way for the next 30 years.

knuk, you really think an actually non-existent imaginary single pipeline has such geostrategic importance?

Maybe if there was such a pipeline it could lend some credence as a contributing factor in something, but given it doesn't exist at all, and there's no way it will exist any time soon, like several decades at least, than I'd say you're chasing your tail by dredging up that idea as a causative factor in anything at all.

It's a fiction, it has been nothing but fiction all along, so why is it even a factor in examination or assessment of anything?

You are sewing together a narative around things that have zero reality.

BONNIE TYLER LYRICS

"Holding Out For A Hero"

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where's the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need

[Chorus:]
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life

Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There's someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet

[Chorus]

Up where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I would swear that there's someone somewhere
Watching me

Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like the fire in my blood

[Chorus]

Early on, State found out that Kerry wasn't very bright.

In these speeches, he is operated by Victoria Nuland using a combination of hydraulic fluid lines, an analog electrical control panel with vacuum tubes, and her fist up his ass.

It's more fun to watch knowing that.

You all know where I stand on Russia under Putin.  (For the Russians here, I want you to lose but I want you folks to take a step toward having a actual democratic society.  You cannot do this under a dictator.)

Well, in my mind there is a bright side.  The Western Allies have become weak and complacent and this all has put the fire under their asses to focus again on their military readiness.  Maybe Sweden can reconsitute its draft military and can focus back to buildig advanced fighter jets(...just how good is that Grippen system anyways?)

This world has never been safe...now the EU has reason to acknowedge this truth.  China will be next after Russia.

"China will be next after Russia."

have you ever considered that there might not be an after?

as you said the "world has never been safe" least of all when two nuclear armed powers come into conflict.

and they will use them, they wouldn't have kept them otherwise.

Oh, Yes!  I not only consider this but I address it on several prior posts today.

Mutually assured destruction is the concept that seems to have been neglected by you.  By this, we can expect SANE actors (China, Russia, USA, EU countries) to behave with intense respect to the precepts of MAD.

Had the Ukraine understood the role of Nukes in establishing peace and stability we would not be at this current impasse.  Ukraine would have kept some nukes and Putin would have avoided any of this current bullshit.

The citizens voted 80% in favour of joining / aligning with Russia - end of story !  How are you or anyone else empowered to dictate what is best for them - good bad or otherwise ?   I support their freedom to choose for themselves and if anything Russia's commitment to standing up for them in the face of all the possible negative consequences is an eye opener - I for one am not confident our governments would do the same.
