Train Derails In Lynchburg, Massive Fire Erupts, "Flames Stories High"

Tyler Durden's picture

In what can only be explained as a massive oil pipeline derailment, because trains are obviously so much safer when transporting flammable commodities, moments ago another train derailed in Lynchburg, Virginia with numerous railcars falling in the river, and a massive fire erupting with flames that are "storeys high" according to ABC13. And moments ago it was also announced that the train belongs to CSX and the burning product is, expectedly, crude oil.

Additionally, it appears that the CBTX on the side of the train cars indicates they are associated with CIT Croup/Capital Finance.

Some more photos from the scene of the accident:

CSX CEO Michael Ward spoke with FOX Business Network’s (FBN) Liz Claman about CSX’s train car derailment in Lynchburg Virginia. Ward said, “we are deploying all of our resources for three primary purposes; one to support the local emergency responders, and secondly to protect the community and the citizen injury, and finally to protect the environment.” Ward went on to say, “we are actively engaged with the emergency responders” and that “We’re setting up a community response center at this point and we’ve deployed both external and internal environmental experts to the scene.”

On the CSX train car derailment:

"As you noted it just happened a little over an hour ago, so there is not a lot of detail. What we do know is a unit hall train and it was headed to Yorktown, Virginia derailed in Lynchburg at least one car is on fire as the report we have. What I can tell you is we are deploying all of our resources for three primary purposes; one to support the local emergency responders, and secondly to protect the community and the citizen injury, and finally to protect the environment. So we are actively engaged with the emergency responders. We’re setting up a community response center at this point and we’ve deployed both external and internal environmental experts to the scene.”

 On railroad regulations:

"We as an industry, we as a company, are in favor of tougher tank car standards. To be honest and forth right with you. We don’t own the cars, they are either owned by customers or leasing companies. But we do think there are some improvements that can be made.”

New pipelines are just a gigantic land grab by corporations.

Oh my, seems ceding public and private lands for corporate profit is quite popular.

Better start creating a better rail transit system in this Country if the politians in D.C. want to see their dream of replacing Russia's gas and oil to Western Europe with our latest "fracking projects"?...

Pathetic and insane is never a good combo!

Well they need to find the money!

Not only do we need a more modern rail system to transport that "future oil bounty" to those eagerly awaiting Western European clients, but we will also need it to pick up and drop off the free "worker bees" that will inhabit FEMA installations that intersect many of those rail lines across this great expanse of ours!

Oh they will find the money, but only after the big default, so lets get it over with, rah rah rah, team B beats team A and we can all go home a celebrate with a, design.

CSX train carrying ammonium phosphate

Ammonium phosphate is the salt of ammonium and phosphate. It is a highly unstable compound with the formula (NH4)3PO4. Because of its instability, it is elusive and of no commercial value.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammonium_phosphate

I'm sure trains are carrying products with no commercial value.  You know, people will pay big bucks for a product with no commercial value.

In case you missed the hazard pictogram on the link, the red diamondis a ZERO.

NOT FLAMMABLE YOU MOOK!

Nice try.  Now get back to your Hot Pockets.

You need to get yourself two Tesla's to power your home.  Keep one at the free charging at the local free charging station, keep the other one home discharging into your home's electrical system with your meter running backwards selling the juice back to the grid.  How long until you can pay off both vehicles?

Last month a neighbor drove off the road over my mailbox so far off the road that his driver's side tire lined up with the post.  This is only 400' from turning onto our street.   It's time that they make these devices shut down when they are in motion.

This is near the coast in Virginia and has nothing to do with the Bakken deposit in Nebraska. This CSX line runs to/from Norfolk, VA the largest port on the East coast. I don't think you can blame this on Buffett.

Do a search for train on DrillingMaps.com for train and you will see several train derailment accidents this year.  Its a bit out of control.  Why we need to export OUR oil outside the USA is beyond me.

Wouldnt it makes sense for supporters of the pipeline to that aim to make billions benefit from a train 'ACCIDENT'?!?!?!?!?!?! My father worked on track maintentance for rail cars here in the Northeast. Trains are very safe, but it would be easy to sabbotage a section of rail or a few tanker cars to cause accidents.

Lets invest in improved rail system. If rail was free market they could transport goods across the USA for a fraction of the cost of trucks. They can also transport this oil stuff along with everythign else. Trains get 100 MPG.

A pipeline only pumps 1 thing and when the source is empty the public usually gets stuck with the adverse effects and the cost of clean-up..
