Behind The Curtain – Putin Is Admired
Submitted by Martin Armstrong via Armstrong Economics,
Putin at least stands for what he truly believes in. That is far more than we find in Western Politicians. Most Western Politicians admire Putin for he is tough and has backbone that they seriously lack not to mention perhaps brains. I disagree with Putin that landmass has anything to do with the power of a nation and Japan proved that to be a correct statement.
Russia could be a great major economic power if it reformed internally and set its people truly free. Russians are great programmers and still have embedded an entrepreneurial spirit.
It is my “opinion” that ever since Bush Jr, bureaucracy has taken hold and grabbed more power – i.e. NSA.
I say this simply based upon my personal observations dealing with government. Consequently, the very same neoconservatives who ran foreign policy under Bush are still there under Obama. The US President is just a puppet and the strings are pulled by the unelected bureaucracy. The problem with this group has been they are only concerned with power – not economics. They are totally ignorant about the economic trend and remain clueless with respect to how to run a government.
They totally fail to grasp that we need each other and cannot articulate for a single second why Russia or China should still be enemies when Communism has fallen.

Russians admire a strong leader. And Putin does not hide who he is. A thug. But, that's OK with most of Russia.
Putin at least stands for what he truly believes in

Armstrong has officially become clairvoyant.
could have picked one of his pictures with animals ... tigers etc. it makes him look much stronger if that is the intent i suppose ... LOL
@James_Cole
not sure what "clairvoyant" means but the guy is just trying to make a living ... a good living i suppose ... whatever ...
Let's give Martin Armstrong a break ... if it is not armstrong playing kabuki there would be some other guy to play his role somewhere ... plenty out there ...
in all fairness, he tried to resist and made his time in jail ...
Obama also stands for what he truly believes.
Its just that what he believes in is the destruction of America.
Armstrong is sometimes an ass. To call Putin a ''thug'' is to quote Time Magazine. Putin is more interesting, more devoted to his nation, and I dare say, more devoted to Christianity and morality (yes he was KGB, yawn)
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/dec/02/wikileaks-cables-solzhenits...
than all the Merkel's and Obamas and Hollandes and Harpers, that you could fit in a Bildeburger bunker
The fact that Putin was KGB means absolutely nothing to me, and anyone who uses it as a critique isn't thinking clearly. As another ZH poster pointed out the other day, we elected the head of the CIA as president (George H.W. Bush), and no one called him a thug because he was a spy.
I have called Putin a thug, but that appraisal is based superficially upon the way he presents himself within Russia, as a quasi-bully. He has a certain way of getting things done, and it often involves projecting a tough guy image or making threats. The question, though, is whether this is any worse than the way the typical Western politician behaves: kissing ass and offering political bribes to advance an agenda. IMO, they're two sides of the same coin, but in the case of the mess in Ukraine, Putin clearly has the moral high ground. Western politicians turned to violence in order to advance their agenda and have blood on their hands. Now they're whining because they picked a fight with the wrong bully.
HW BUSH owns INMARSAT, the satellite company that tell's us to only look for MH-370 west of austrailia.
INMARSAT works with SERCO-GROUP, another CIA holding company that run's prisons and wants to electronic tag everyone on earth and track them with satellites.
HW BUSH is a great man, his family will rule the earth some day.
Oh, and icing on the cake SERCO-GROUP stole the MH-370, so they could have the KL-02 (freescale) all for themselves.
HW-BUSH was not ex-cia, or ex-USA president, HW-BUSH, like Prescott Bush his grandfather who brought HITLER to power, these are not MEN, they are GOD's.

well said
HW is definitely a thug.
Anyone who calls Putin a thug hasn't been paying attention. At the end of the day, Putin thinks his legacy rests on restoring the greatness of Russia. In contrast, Obama thinks his legacy lies in ushering in Socialism while taking American down a few notches as payback for past "crimes". Furthermore, Obama and other Western politicians think that their job is to surrender the sovereignty of their countries to an unaccountable Global bureaucracy. Putin has no such plans.
I am a loyal American--unfortunately, our leaders (from both parties) seem hell bent on transforming American into something abhorrent and unrecognizable. For these reasons, I respect Putin a lot more than Obama.
Couldn't agree more!
To what is there left to be loyal?
'Merica, becaus Obama.
Putin playing a serious game of chess while his Western counterparts are playing checkers
Evcerybody should give this a read.
All truthseeker2's links are deeply researched and brilliantly written by a team.
Even if they push the boundaries of what you consider acceptable (spirituality etc.), read it....
ori
Will check it out ORI. Still on a journey of self discovery after that chance meeting in the LES, want to thank you for that advice again.
Based upon those four paragraphs Armstrong has officially become incoherent. It is almost as if he wrote a much longer article, then ripped out these four paragraphs from different points in the piece.
It all sort of goes together......but in fact does not. The pressures of speaking engagements, running a blog and hopping around the globe I suppose. Maybe he should just move to a mountain top and grow tomatoes and raise mean bunnies. :)
follow your example ehhh?
well he just did the same only in high style .... moved to switzerland ... agreed?
Agreed.
He is hobnobbing with the Swiss and I am trying to scrub the Virginia red clay from under my fingernails. I feel I got the better of the two deals....but it is all a matter of perspective. I'm certain he feels vindicated and safe where he is as well.
I have been reading Armstrong for well over a decade and he has gone down hill prose wise. I sincerely hope that is simply because he is pressed for time and not because the faculties are waning. I often do not agree with his analysis, but I value his at times very different point of view of the world.
<BTW I'm teaching Mrs. Cog to mimic my style so when I go all senile she can just stuff me in a corner and take over the wheel.> :)
When I lived in the innermost circle of Hell (DC) - "things" could be done amazingly quickly, especially in comparison to the time and effort required to do the same mundane "things" when I later lived in SW Virginia. Now that I'm in NE Switzerland - I often long the speed and ease of getting things done in SW Virginia...
Where you stand depends upon where you sit.
Next time I won't put my chair near that pile of SW Virginia cow poo. :)
It's frustrating how the things that don't really matter can wind up distracting from and impeding those things that really do matter.
While to some degree Mrs. Cog and I have just swapped one set of problems for another, for the most part we both wake up with smiles on our faces and hearts full of gratitude that we live, work and play in such a beautiful place.
I really did step in some shit today. I belly laughed at my own stupidity for not watching where I was walking. If the worse that happens to me on a daily basis is that I step in some shit life can't get much better than that. :)
<However the boots have been banished to the porch. Bad boots. Bad bad boots.>
cog,
for someone with little experiencing farming, what books or other resources/advice would you recommend for someone who wants to establish a very small-time commercial, organic/permaculture, but mainly subsistence farming operation?
thanks!
ps.
and if you could pick 5 locations anywhere in the world, where would you begin such a project?
trader1
We are not commercial farming here nor are we organic/permaculture farming. We are just two idiots playing in the dirt making mud pies and having some fun while growing some of our own food. That said, here are two books that have been helpful.
Five Acres and Independence: A Handbook for Small Farm Management
This was written before electricity, so you get the real deal on how to do many things the old school way. It actually is very helpful because the old timers were no dummies and they did things very efficiently because they did not have the mechanical advantages we do today. Well worth the $9.
Mini Farming: Self-Sufficiency on 1/4 Acre
Every modern day trick in the book is in this book. A must have for the novice and experienced person.
I couldn't pick 5 locations because I have no experience outside of New England and the Mid Atlantic region. That said, you want a growing season longer than what can be offered above the Mason Dixon line if at all possible. But neither do you want the deep heat of the deep south nor the drought conditions of the southwest.
We picked a place that was somewhat isolated from the coming social storms, but still near enough to civilization that going to a big box store didn't need to be an all day and night affair when you counted in travel time.
thank you cog dis.
between your recommendations and daveyjones', i think i'll keep busy. maybe it'll even take me away from my posting/reading ZH for a while. wouldn't that be a miracle!
i agree on location being key over the next generation. i'm hoping the shit doesn't hit the fan and sense prevails, but one can never be 100% sure on this. better to manage/mitigate risks, especially when a family is involved. i originally hail from the states, but don't plan on going back at least anytime soon. (unless they legalize hemp/cannabis cultivation)
anyone else out there have experience farming in european countries?

thanks, davey. much appreciated.
i've also come across Joel Salatin and his book "You Can Farm"...worth a read?
yes, Salatin has valuable things to say
I have been reading Martin since I heard warren pollock mentioned his name. He's been spot on most of the time esp on gold. But lately his writing is more on politics and geopolitical events than economics
Keep up the good farming cog. My Connecticut Pumpkins are blooming!
I used seeds from my previous Halloween Pumpkins!
Nice. If the seeds are growing they were not GMO. Three stars for heirloom seed germination. :)
<I spent many many years in southeastern CT. I miss the area, but not the winters, the politics or the taxes.>
Took 8 seeds and wrapped them in tissue(plastic bag) March 31st.(transplanted) I'm almost ready to polinate male to female.(2 weeks max)
Everbearing strawberries are doing well. miniture bell peppers are doing well. SMILES
Al seeds were from my own crop! I grew the pumpkins and kept the seeds.
We have so lost touch with our own sovereignty and inner strength that it is truly amazing how liberating and empowering growing some food from scratch, no matter how insignificant, can be.
What's your guy's perspective on permaculture? hippie hokum or are they onto something?
I think they are on to something important.
That said, they have developed their own culture and as with all isolated and shunned communities (the very fact that you connected it in even a minor way to hippie hokum, which I also did at first, speaks to their isolation and being shunned) it can be a bit too self important.
Just get past that (as I did) and look closely at what they are doing. Lots of good ideas there and good logic and reasoning behind most of it as well.
Cool, That's reassuring that it's not all wishy washy at least. I'm guessing from the bits and pieces I've come across that it's a James lovelock meets Albert Howard kinda deal, but the portlandia vibe kept me away. Any recommended reads?
I agree with CD. Permaculture is a lot of things and a lot of things are permaculture. In its essence, permaculture is just common sense, observation and a true understanding that natural systems, complex, unorderly, un-modern, un agricultural systems work exponentially better because that's the way things actually work. It doesn't mean we don't apply some intelligence to it, it's more a challenge to our concept of what is intelligent. It also embraces the awesome power of perennials, trees and the fact that there is more than soy and high fructose corn syrup out there to eat.
Sounds like the horticultural principles employed by natives in many tropical environments. Only issue I have with that style is the lack of a carb staple which are almost entirely annual or harvested as such. Most fruit and nut trees don't yield enough to pick up the slack.
I'm guessing they rely on the forest stratification model heavily too (correct me if i'm wrong)? I think that is a far superior model to monoculture systems but a balance has to be struck or the labor required for harvest would make it cost prohibitive, even with the savings gained from ease of maintenance.
Mobile browser screwed up my comment. Should have followed with:
The peanut gallery's attempts to turn an ex KGB agent billionaire into the second coming of Thomas Jefferson is hilarious.

BTW that picture suits you nicely; you clearly are a clown.

Look who it was claimed by.
You are dumb enough to read that as fact? Are you fucked in the head? Serious question
How's your Russian, Komrade? ;-)
http://ewnc.info/node/6001
With all the down arrows on this thread it's pretty clear where the trolls and agents are tonight. :-)
<Don't waste your sarcasm my friend. It will be pretty much lost in the background noise tonight.>
Perhaps ZH is just a big honey pot for collecting ..... ahem.... information about dissidents.
I have no doubt what-so-ever that you are correct. I assume, and have always assumed since I first went on line with a dial-up connection, that I was naked as a jail bird to those who wished to watch what I was doing. Once you recognize and accept that you are buck naked you no longer worry about what you never had to begin with......privacy.
that leaves at least one option when participating in the exchange of ideas online:
put on a show that will be remembered
Oh come on Cog, I love fuckin with these Russian nationalist types.
Cuz every hysterically emotional communist who desires to be ruled by the crony-state, needs to have their wealth stolen from them by the oligarchs & their handmaiden socialists at least once.
The Russians are just too stupid to realize it ;-)
Once again you claim those that oppose AMerican fascism and are pro Russian must be Russian? I find it interesting you use the same tactics as .gov trolls.
Let me guess, you think the US is a basion of freedom and democracy and kills by the thousands for peace and freedom? War is peace? questions are unamerican?
I find it contemptible that you would attempt to align me with any .gov and repugnant that you think I value "democracy" (which is nothing but mob rule).
Furthermore, the next time you equate an American (me) with fascism (socialism) you will need more than just the accusation. It doesn't work that way around here...it requires proof.
Komrade ;-)
Your rabid Russophobia pegs you as a .gov troll or flag waiving sheep. For a second I thought maybe you just had a mistrust of Putin (being a politician that is not a misplaced mistrust) until I saw your rabid Russophobia and hatred of Russia in the posts below. Only a complete retard would say that Russia is not a leader of science and math when they send your clownish american astronauts to space.
A .gov troll am I?
You're nine weeks old, Komrade. Obviously you haven't been around long enough to read (let alone comprehend) anything I've ever said about anything.
You got me! Well then time will tell. As of right now your reputation is of rabid Russophobia as outlined in your nonsensical Russia is not a leader in science and math posts below, among your hatred of Putin (and that is the flavour of the year for the sheeple).
Maybe I'll see a diff angle in the future; & maybe you really are a .gov troll with an angle.
No...you will answer what nationality you are or be branded the troll you are.

You apparently prefer to live in the shadows with your shameless lack of honor and cast aspersions on others. Congrats, you've made an enemy.

Why did the PTB put a PUSSY in charge? Me thinks so he can be controlled,
Why does the CIA KNIGHT SIR-PUTIN? Me thinks that the KGB/CIA/MOSSAD are really all on the same team.
Well, I have a different opinion.
Its not the same team, they're all statists for sure, using the cover of law & nation-state to pillage...but there is a decidely different "cultural/ethnic" component going on here.
decidely different "cultural/ethnic" component going on here.

You don't think Putin has political opposition?
I also like the standard American .gov troll tactic of labelling me as a Russian for not agreeing with you. Fail on your part.
BTW Thanks for answering the q about you being fkd in the head.
Ummm, I asked how your Russian language was, Komrade. I never said you were Russian.
Kinda fucked in the head aren't you?
Since I'm not Russian, not great. However it's good enough to see your sources are either .gov propaganda or Russian opposition propaganda.
Srs q: why after what has come out in the last weeks/months/years do you believe the WH press drivel? You think the USA is actualy not fkd right up, srs?
"Since I'm not Russian..."
Well, since you offered what you are not (yet didn't reveal anything), what nationality do you claim?
Komrade ;-)
It's just not worth it man, you will exhaust yourself with no fruit to show for your labor. There is a large portion of mouth breathers on here that cannot be bothered to get off Putin's cock long enough to give him an objective assessment. Render unto Caesar (or in this case Putin).
Putin's got his secrets and we're all sure as a politician he's done a fair share of corrupt ativity..but as long as he's fucking with the USSA and working against it he's a goddamn hero IMO. I couldn't care less about supposed rumours of russian corruption when the states has killed 300,000+ civiiians this decade, maimed even more, and destoyied the homes and countries of millions. The USSA is a terrorist state. Oh and let's also not forget the robbery of trillions of $ by the US gov.
When the USA is no more an issue then we maybe focus can be on Putin's alleged corruption.
"I couldn't care less about supposed rumours of russian corruption"
Be careful here, I'm not a fan of the United States track record by any means, but you have to look at things for what they are. Don't let your hatred of the US rob you of critical thought.
You would be better served by analyzing Russia on it's own merits, instead of viewing it from within the narrow confines of a West vs East dialectic.
Geopolitics is not a football game, there are no "teams". Russia is a complicated country with a rich history both good and bad and to project some sort of self indulgent messianic fantasy on them is to insult that heritage.

Nothing wrong with that
Pull your tongue out of his asshole! Dick Cheney truly believed that killing millions of tan and brown people was necessary and that didn't make it right! Stop trying to make a hero out of this guy.
True, but I would add Putin is simply an unrefined thug. Western politicians are simply refined thugs who have the benefit of decades of the public being brainwashed.
say what you want, But Russians believed in Euro-integration, and Putin was not an exception. But the seeds of distrust have been planted for decades and now it harvest time. I am AMAZED that our president says " they will NEVER turn off gas, they never did during cold war". WTF!!!
Ask your self, what is Putin supposed to do? They are trying so hard to get Russians involved militarily.
Really, what choice do they have. Granted they have warmed up the heat of discontent on the East and now they have to deliver.
Agree. Russians should be happy and proud that Putin didnt sell out Russian sovereignty for the IMF/fed res con game. He recognized the dangers and influence of the zionist agenda and distanced his people from it. Now they attempt to make him pay.
DCRB said:
DoChen, would you be kind enough to help me understand something? You have referred to Putin as a thug on more than one occasion. What specific reasons have led you to categorize him as such?
Maybe he is a thug, and maybe he isn't. I've seen more than a handful of people make that assertion, but then they just leave it at that, never supporting their assertion or explaining their reasoning. It's almost as if the reader is expected to know it as an inherent truth, much like fire is hot and water is wet.
I'm simply curious about your reasons and am genuinely hoping to learn something. Thanks.
I can't but wonder whether it's no more than the judoka-hunter-horserider-shirt off when the sun's out that spins out Do-chen and his ilk. I'm all of the above, and more, but I ain't a thug. Without some evidence, Do-chen and his mates can fuck off.

1) Putin was mid-level KGB, apparently an undisputed fact. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_putin He for some time worked in East Germany. When I was young (in 1984), I once went to East Germany. That place was very bad, the True Sons of the Nazis. Trust me on that, how they searched the train just before arriving back into West Berlin from Poland...
2) bing.com provides 106,000,000 results for "book, putin, man without a face". The book is by Masha Gessen, a Russian journalist who got beaten up and otherwise hassled badly. I read that book. It is a pretty decent biography of the man. Disclosure: that is the only biography of Putin that I have read.

4) http://inside.org.au/unmasking-vladimir-putin/ A sample paragraph:
"Today, even Putin’s most sycophantic admirers would hesitate before indulging in such an extravagant panegyric. Indeed, Alexey Chadaev, who helped to codify “Putin’s ideology” in a Kremlin-authorised volume, boasted that Putin’s early liberal rhetoric was a kind of “instrumental language,” a set of empty, ritualistic formulas like the invocations of Lenin in the speeches of late Soviet leaders. During Putin’s second presidential term (2004–08), he abandoned these word games and laid the foundations of a new kind of authoritarian regime, which combined repression of opponents with the mobilisation of supporters. Credible opposition leaders were ousted from their parties and “Stop Lists” banned them from appearing on state television. A succession of draconian laws circumscribed the rights of NGOs and turned elections into a regimented farce. Protest demonstrations were dispersed with ostentatious brutality. At the same time, the Kremlin created a host of militantly loyal youth organisations, which staged anti-Western spectacles and fought a “counter-revolutionary” war of attrition against the regime’s adversaries. The foot soldiers in this war included gangs of soccer hooligans, who were implicated in a series of violent attacks on opposition youth. - See more at: http://inside.org.au/unmasking-vladimir-putin/#sthash.n9SYvJRx.dpuf"

President Putin was administrative in KGB, nothing much else. Soviet was dying by then and the KGB was well aware...Gorby and Yeltsin let it go terrible..then new team stepped in and Russians fortunes changed...
I have seen inside what his team has done for Russia...He is hard worker
And, as pointed out on ZH recently, the US saw nothing wrong with appointing a former HEAD of the CIA as president. One who likely had a hand in assassinating a predecessor.
Thug? Stole a fucking ring from some entitled prick? Show me the body count.
Speaking of which, what is Obama's body count? Several hundred thousand children, and counting, I read a few years ago. Who's the thug?
.
Hey, it's cool. I believe you're a decent person and I'm glad that you contribute here. I know that, like most of us, you read ZH as part of an effort to seek the truth. None of us will probably ever know pure, unvarnished truth, but the effort to find it is, in my opinion, a worthwhile and rewarding endeavor.
I hope you will consider my respose not as criticism of you, but an attempt to help you recognize and hopefully overcome the lifetime of accumulated indoctrination which we Americans have been subjected to since childhood.
OK, so he worked for the foreign intelligence service of his government and attained a modest rank. That's pretty flimsy evidence of thuggery. Not everyone employed by the KGB was an inhuman brute that busted down doors and dragged off people in the night. That's just the comic book characterization which the US government encouraged us to believe. Were some of them heartless goons? Of course. The same can be said of the CIA. Nevertheless, not all CIA employees are engaged in trafficking heroin/cocaine, laundering money, murdering innocent foreign nationals, or experimenting with mind control on US citizens.
In fact, some people who are former CIA employees have made some very perceptive observations regarding the US government and the Ukrainian tar baby it created. Michael Scheuer, who regards Putin as "not a particularly likeable man", said the following:
"Like the terminal adolescents they are, the leaders of both parties in the United States and their counterparts in NATO and the EU cannot bring themselves to admit the clear and simple fact that they are responsible for the festering problem in Ukraine. They have encountered in Putin a man who is unsavory and no hero but one who is a thorough-going nationalist who will not roll over and play dead and abandon his country’s security interests because the intervention-addicted Western democracy mongers demand he do so. Western pride, historical ignorance, and hubris makes admitting a mistake impossible, so we continue meandering toward war."
http://non-intervention.com/1189/obama-mccain-and-the-natoeu-gang-better...
Ray McGovern, former head of the CIA’s Soviet Foreign Policy Branch, in an article criticizing John Kerry's vendetta against Russia's RT network, said:
"It is easy to blame Russian propaganda for just about everything, including the public distrust of the endless propaganda pouring forth from Official Washington and its fawning corporate media. But people tire of the constant spin from U.S. officials and the one-sided coverage by the U.S. mainstream press. I may be naïve about this, but I think people really do prefer the truth. [...] And how do Obama and Kerry get a pass from the American people for what they are doing? Because the mainstream U.S. media has left Americans brainwashed. In the biased U.S. coverage, for example, there has been little or no mention of NATO’s eastward expansion despite solemn promises at the highest U.S.-Russian level not to do that. Indeed, a cartful of relevant facts that could provide crucial context goes unmentioned. It’s simply, 'Putin bad; Putin very bad. Shame on him; he sometimes has no shirt on, even on a horse. Bad, bad Putin.' "

Yes, you are correct, the East German regime was extremely paranoid and repressive. Putin's employer assigned him to work there. While these are both true statements, surely you can see that neither logically supports the assertion that Putin is a thug.
Biography? The author is well known to harbor a deep-seated personal animosity toward the subject. Such an author is quite capable of producing a self-serving anti-hagiography that is well written and persuasive, but I would not put any credence in its accuracy. I mean, come on, this is the same author that wrote a book praising the virtues of Pussy Riot.
The fact that western mainstream media were falling over themselves to praise it should have triggered your bullshit detector.
A pretty crappy article and an obvious smear job. Of the seven stories, four of them are rehashes from the Masha Gessen "biography", one story is an admitted repetition of a rumor, and one says that there have been accusations of marital infidelity. The only story of the seven that can even be confirmed is that Putin made John Kerry sit and wait for three hours before meeting with him. This was last year when Kerry was trotting out his story of "firm evidence" of Assad being behind a chemical weapon attack, when Kerry knew all along that the Syrian government had nothing to do with it. I fail to see how making horse-faced Herman Munster wait a few hours constitutes thuggish behavior.
Yeah, well, that's hardly surprising coming from an academic whose career seems to be built on a foundation of bashing Russia and demonizing Putin. The guy's latest piece ( http://inside.org.au/putin-on-the-edge-of-an-abyss/ ) is just a repetition of the official Obama/Kerry/Nuland talking points. These "expert" ramblings on Russia are on the same level as Bernanke's pronouncements about the economic "recovery". If you believe Robert Horvath about Putin, then why haven't you sold your gold and put the money into stocks and US Treasury notes?
Read the following article and see if you still place credibility in Mr. Horvath's scholarly search for the truth:

By the way, those NGOs that Putin cracked down were lackeys of the US government who were paid to stir up trouble as a precursor to regime change. Don't take my word for it, though. Read these and then make up your own mind:

Lastly, and I know this is difficult for a lot of people to do, especially Americans, but you must make the effort to learn the difference between Russia and the Soviet Union. Russia was not the Soviet Union. Russia was one of the countries subjugated, oppressed, and brutalized by the Soviet Union. I highly recommend the article below, as it explains why someone who lost family members to the Bolsheviks and who worked for years opposing the Soviet regime is now a supporter of both Russia and Putin.

BTW, +1 DCRB for giving an honest response, as always.
This "Putin is just a thug" nonsense reeks of idiocy. What kind of man does necessity dictate should climb to the most powerful position in a nation like Russia? Do you think a John Kerry or Odumbo would get anywhere in a nation like that? You need balls, massive balls. Make no mistake, Putin is not Frank Underwood. He's smarter and more ruthless. Not because he likes to be, but because it's necessary.
>>>This "Putin is just a thug" nonsense reeks of idiocy.
Mr. Putin may or may not have a major thuggish streak, but right now he's the best guy available to be the Leader of the Free World.
I think Cougar said it very well in another thread here. He made the point that Putin's recent rise in power and influence has less to do with his own efforts, and EVERYTHING to do with the massive power vacuum that the Obama regime has created. (I'm paraphrasing here.) Putin is moving through the power vacuum the way Genghis Khan would have: fast, straight into the breech, with calculated precision, and maximum impact.
Of course it's okay with Russia; He's THEIR THUG. We should be so lucky. We got a thug who wants to turn us into UN sharcroppers.
Disagree. Western politicians DO stand for what they believe in. 100% unadulterated Kleptocracy.
KLEPTOCRACY - A government RAN by COMMON CRIMINALS.
Now that is something we can all believe in.
The USA is ran by LAWYERS, these lawyers are ignorant of science, back in the day men like Ben Franklin had real knowledge, but the leaders of today, or just men in K-MART suits selling snake oil to the citizens; The citizens of course are even a bigger joke, being consumed by Bieber and Kardashian Snatch.
>>>
But the REAL reason for AMERICA's decline in JOBS and TECH leadership, is the TRIFFEN DILLEMA, once a country makes 'reserve currency', to KEEP it the country must EXPORT all jobs, and murder its own citizens.
The problem in general with ZH is people look at 3rd order symptoms, but fail to see 1st order cause.
Russian kids grow up playing chess and listening to classical music
Western kids grow up listening to rap and jacking-off

This is what liberalism did to America!
This is what liberalism did to America!
Yeah, the kids who grew up under communism now run the infrastructure of wall street. America got to the moon thanks to nazis. Really need to reconsider the whole fascism / communism thing america!
Fuck liberalism, we need zee results!
The bolsheviks ruined America. And it was Kubrick who `sent' the astronauts to the moon:) But we did get the atom bomb from Germany, along with all their rocket science in return for Hitler and the gang living out their lives in Argentina.
http://sharkhunters.com/book1.htm
Can you read ? or did you just learn to touch type. Try read a book sometime. No. my idiot friend we did not get any atomic bomb from Germany. It's absolutely pathetic to imagine a grown person who pays attention to this crap about the faked moon landings. Are you ever actually going to become mentally mature or are you just going to continue like this? Did you vote for Odumbo?
A 100 years ago Russian's were educated, doing math, and listening to classical music.
100 years ago most american's lacked even the 3R's.
Yesterday we talked about how the USA can't launch a rocket, now that all the Nazi's who built NASA are retired and dead.
Back in the 1980's when we were all getting PC's, each PHD had to share a PC with 10 colleagues in RUSSIA, while in the USA everybody had 2+ PC's to themselves. Russia is long on CHALK and short of BULLSHIT like 'things', but long on ideas and theory.
Best MATH & PHYSICS come's out of RUSSIA.
The USA is a failed penal colony, not known for GREAT SCIENCE, until 'OPERATION PAPERCLIP', brought great minds to the USA, but that didn't last long, because nobody was smart enough to BREED NAZI's /sarc

Liberalism is not the cause of DUMBING down ameriKKKa, ameriKKKa was always DUMB.
Most telling is OUR technology is all produced abroad, like the KL-02 the micro-computer to make robot fly's smart and to be inserted into every person on earth to be tagged ( tracked ) by satellite (INMARSAT), funny that the KL-02 mean's Kuala-Lumpur, MALAYSIA where the most important technology on earth was being made, ... one might ask why did a TEXAS company (FREESCALE) farm out its TECH to SE-ASIA?
DARPA went nuts when they discovered that FREESCALE was going to sell the KL-02 to the highest bidder (CHINA), so they took the engineers ( steal MH-370 ),
Thus OPERATION-PAPERCLIP 2.0 has started and the USA is now kidnapping ENGINEER's worldwide and returning them to UK/NA so that USA/UK/ISRAEL can once again have technology to lead the world in MURDER.
I've tried to find a DVD of the opening ceremony for the winter games in Sochi. Impossible. From what I've seen, it was profoundly beautiful, with classical music, dance, etc. Now compare that to the openly satanic demonic opening ceremony for the London games. Something straight out of Orwell.
Google it in Russian ;)

dup..
Exactly......We were wanting that also...English language...
We were in OK and TX (frac land) at the time and watched on BBC by proxy server...BBC was best we found...
CBS would not allow unless a subscriber type..forget that....
Is available Russian...but we wanted to give as gift to awake some English speakers..
Now don't you find it odd that the Chinese winter game DVD was available and quite popular? All part of the New Bolshevik continual discrediting of Russia.
Yeah, the Russians were so brilliant they sold us Alaska for 7.2 million...lol.
such a deal!
"Best MATH & PHYSICS come's out of RUSSIA."...ROTFL!!!
Yeah, lets do the math on that ;-)
But, aren't a lot of those Wall Street 'flash boy' programmers eastern bloc imports? Not that that is necessarily a good thing, just sayin
Who is sending who to space?
Lobachevsky revolutionized geometry. There are many others. You confuse politics with mathematics.
"The boldness of his challenge and its successful outcome have inspired mathematicians and scientists in general to challenge other 'axioms' or accepted 'truths', for example the 'law' of causality which, for centuries, have seemed as necessary to straight thinking as Euclid's postulate appeared till Lobatchewsky discarded it. The full impact of the Lobatchewskian method of challenging axioms has probably yet to be felt. It is no exaggeration to call Lobatchewsky the Copernicus of Geometry, for geometry is only a part of the vaster domain which he renovated; it might even be just to designate him as a Copernicus of all thought.[18]

Historic fact for dummies:
Russians leased Alaska because they couldn't defend it from the Brits (The Crimean war, 1854), and preferred it to go to the third party.
Furthermore:
"By Barker's calculation, the state has cost the federal government $13.4 million in 1867 dollars, which translates to a $16.5 billion loss in today's dollars, adjusting for the size of the economy."
http://news-releases.uiowa.edu/2009/november/110609alaska.html
I care not what Barker thinks Alaska has cost the federal government.
Do you (or Barker) also think we are responsible for the federal governments debts?
Only jack-offs rap.
Fuck chess and do you know what classical music is? Electronica played on wooden and brass intruments. People try to elevate this music to magical levels. Its just music. Doesn't make you smarter or a better person.

Nyet...you're just too damn low stupid to be helped...
it is all just so god damn dumb...
He's openly Chrisitian, espouses Christian values, and covets gold. What more do you need to know? Can we trade Obama for Putin ?
If Government is a reflection of the quality of the collective that "voted" them in, what might the Russians do to the Mullato showing up in a trade? Whereas, it would seem America's collective certainly couldn't handle Putins Integrity.
Is pro-family and bans Monsatan products. Putin 2016 for me? Or do prefer a Hilary vs. Jeb Bush campaign?
I admire the neighbors dog more than I do Obama/Biden and Clintons.
cuz communism takes the production from the people, they use the media as a social high ground, and human rights are top down socialist trash wafers bitchez
He is ex KGB thug, but he is Intelligent with a passionate desire to do what is right for Russia and you have to admire him for that, he has a certain integrity, what politician in the West can match that, Kerry? Obama?
The west started this mess by removing the democratically elected government of the Ukraine and installing a far right governmant. You would think from all the wests jumping up and down and ranting that Russia had created this mess.
I wonder if Putin has it in himself to use this situation as a springboard to some higher calling. If he doesn't go off the deep end, admiration for him will grow.
I am still just a little confused by those who praise Putin and Russian superiority as to why the rest of the world's population is not migrating to this wonderful spot of freedom and intellectual nirvana?
One would think from reading all of the Putin FANBOYS around here that they already have submitted applications for residency.
How many people have sought Russian citizenship?
Good question. There have been record numbers of Americans renouncing their citizenship. So, what is the answer to your question?
Just because the MSM says so, doesn't make it true. I know many ppl who have moved to Russia, esp for schooling. Eng education there is supreme.
Before posting your drivel on ZH, check the facts first, fxrxexexdxoxmx. Google Russia's immigration statistics. Below is just one source:
http://www.migrationpolicycentre.eu/docs/migration_profiles/Russia.pdf
1991-2011 Emigration from Russian Federation - 4 mln
1993-2011 Legal Immigration to Russian Federation - 13 mln
There are millions of illegal immigrants in Russia.
but....but....CNN and Fox didn't tell me that......
This October 2014, I will have been in Russia for 9 years! Yes, I am an American and yes Russia is freer and a whole bunch more fun than the USA...
Somethings that I find upsetting is the fact that too many new people are coming to live here in Russia and it is way too hard to become naturalized in Russia, but I am on my way...
It is a spot of "freedom and nirvana?"
Here is a Missouri Farm raised NAM vet, Cordon Bleu chef and a done a lot of other things, met a Russian Lady, married and lives near Mockba..

Another American that tells Russia is more free...
actually from what i know the only country less free than USA is north korea
Grouchy, if Russia is so free, please tell us why journalist Anna Politkovskaya was shot on Putin's birthday.
You're not confused...you're dumb, and post stupid inane crap...
better worry about your country
Nice point, fxr. I am completely in agreement with those not on board with rising authoritarianism and corruption in American government. I also don't like hypocritical American foreign policy (e.g. Pinochet, Rios Montt, Shah Reza Pahlavi, the Contras, etc.)
Unlike a sizeable subset of ZH commenters, these same values make it hard for me to trust Putin, an autocrat who has journalists shot and beaten and who changes the constitution of his country to make it possible for him to serve two six year terms after having already served two four year terms.
Call me crazy, but I try to apply my preference for limited, constiutional government and individual rights to all political systems and leaders.
Skool of "hard noks"... I like him.
Putin is a man of heritige and principles. He has ZERO interest in controling the world! Vlad has the balls enough to fight for his beliefs!
Vlad has the resources and will. He'll starve the machine, and WIN!
Cue Gloria Gaynor
he represents what 51+ percents of humans want; power, money control and intelligence-simple shit.
Where as o and katsupper represent too fags sucking a loolypop together...
Hussien was a thug,
Gadafi was a thug,
Putin was a thug,
Obama is good at killing,
You do need to control the masses or chaos will happen, the human is a devious animal easily manipulated.
1000's of years of tribal competition for resources. It is a natural event.
It is possible to denounce corruption at home without putting wind in Putin's sails.
The author failed on all counts.
Fuck the Zionists, I like him!
This is the central USA failure -- it is severely fooling its people, and thus avoiding objective review of its performance, see here:
http://patrick.net/forum/?p=1242076
I was admiring Putin long before it was cool to do so, not because of what he "stands for" -- Putin doesn't stand for anything except Russia; he is non-ideological -- but for what he understands.
Putin understands that unchecked oligarchs will hollow out a nation's productive capacity in the quest for short term profits. Correspondingly he uses state power to reign in the oligarchs, and industrial power to strengthen the state. There are some who call this fascism, and I fully understand that fascism is a dirty word here a Zero Hedge, but I disagree with that. Whatever you want to call it, it is the only realistic way to govern an industrial superpower. Without this expedient the oligarchs would have torn Russia apart and sold it off to the highest bidder long before now.
Putin understands that the Russian people want nothing to do with Western "freedoms" or parliamentary democracy. You cannot give it to them, and if you tried to force it upon them they would expel it from their midst. They want a strong leader who will defend Russia and all Slavic peoples. Ever since the days of Dostoevsky and Pobedonostsev, the two visions that have burned in the heart of every true Russian have been Christianity and Panslavism, and for he who does not know this the whole of Russian culture must remain a closed book.
Putin also understands that demographics are destiny. He has labored tirelessly to increase Russia's abysmal birthrate, which will prove to be the most difficult challenge of all. Once a country's birthrate falls below the replacement level it usually doesn't climb back up again until long after the old society is gone and new, more primitive equalibrium has been reached. If Putin manages to fix this, he will be one of the greatest leaders of all time.
I would disagree that russians don't like democracy. All of them are indifferent to Moscow as center of power, and want self-governance. And to some extend there is a variety of governance and culture with various parts of Russia.
But Putin has proven himself and won an admiration that you can't ignore. He has elevated the standard of leadership and united a nation in a way that seems unprecedented.
Hope this doesn't shock you, but Putin is just another oligarch. The Messiah he certainly isn't.
Same question to you, G. Marx, as I put to Rising Sun. What's your verdict on Obama? Is he not a communist pig? Is he not an oligarch? Is he not a ruthless dictator? Does he not live large off the backs of those who punch the clock? Would really like to know the difference in the two, other than, of course, that Putin can be trusted to do what he says he will do and Putin can be trusted to do what we think he will do, which is what this article says. Putin is playing chess. Our guy is playing marbles.
The difference between Putin and Obama is that Obama is a better golfer.
There are two other signicant differences: Putin is an imperialist, working to expand his empire, while Obama is an ideological anti-imperialist, working to destroy the West. Putin is not religious, while Obama is clearly, at minimum, pro-Islam.
They have this in common: they both hate all that America has historically represented. And neither cares about the people under them
I count both worthy of equal disdain.
