On The Edge Of War: The Latest Russian And Ukraine Troop Movements

Tyler Durden's picture

If Putin needed a pretext to finally drive across the Ukraine border, he got it today following first the death of nearly 40 pro-Russian protesters in Odessa during a confrontation between pro-Russia and pro-Kiev forces, and then, what appears to be a storming in progress right now by the Ukraine national guard of yet another separatist-controlled city in east Ukraine: Kramatorsk.

According to RT, Ukraine’s National Guard is storming the eastern town of Kramatorsk even as it has also resumed its special operation in Slavyansk, where two soldiers have been killed.

“The assault is starting now,” a Kramatorsk self-defense activist has told RIA Novosti by phone. Another activist told the news agency that the National Guard opened fire on self-defense forces.

Dozens have been killed or injured in Kramatorsk, a doctor told RIA Novosti. The medic added that the fighting has now stopped and all of those injured have been taken to hospitals in Kramatorsk and Slavyansk. At least two died on the way to the hospital, she said.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military’s special operation has resumed in the nearby town of Slavyansk. The headquarters of the people’s self-defense is under snipers’ fire, according to Itar-Tass. There are reports of injuries among protesters.

Recall that Putin has made it very clear that all the Kremlin needs to green light an operation in Ukraine is a pretext of "self-defense" for the pro-Russian citizens currently there being attacked by the local military, something which if the tables were turned, would have been classified as a civil war by the impartial western media.

So what does the theater of operations look like should Russia finally get involved?

The Washington Post is publishing a new map that shows, using information from the Royal United Services Institute, recent troop movements in the region. The graphic illustrates how military exercises conducted by Russia have left a big build-up of troops on Ukraine's border. It also shows Ukraine's own military moves to its borders with Russia and Moldova's Russian-dominated enclave, Transnistria.

It may be a long weekend.

When Muammar Gaddafi attempted to use his armed forces to quell an Al Queda revolt that was suffcient reason for NATO to jump into action and interdict and destroy Gaddafi's forces.

This sets a precedent for Putin to intervene under the Responsibilty To Protect doctrine.

The real wild-card (and danger) in all of this is the US. The arrogance of its politicians and bureaucracy has already backed it into a corner. Without US shenanigans, this would have been at most a regional conflict. People will begin to question whether the USD is worth hording if the empire backing it no longer has the edge to take on a “minor” power such as Russia. On one hand, the US is risking its reputation and the supremacy of the USD by doing nothing, and on the other hand, it's risking WWIII. Could this hand have been played any worse? Putin, as always, played his hand perfectly.

Every unique ethnicity needs its own living space.  What's transpiring is only nature fulfilling its laws.  It will happen in once Christian Europe when the various ethnicities and religions lured in by the multiculturalists reaches the saturation point... and then there will be war there, too.  And then the money powers will write history books blaming right wing extremists for the turmoil.   Tick tock tick tock.

Actually you need to break it down to language.

It is simply the glue a binds a people together. That is why the US English was tortured over the years to make it different from the Mayflowerers.

It is language that is the weave of a society. All constructs are lingual.

I would love to see a linguistic breakdown of this situation. Or take even India, so easily to drive a stake through it's "unity" because everyone speaks a different "mother" tongue.

It's language and it's current form is killing us...

I agree, but that is exactly why the media is focussed on this bullshit.

MALAYSIA has already released all, and everything is pointing to HW-BUSH holding company's in the UK, e.g. SERCO GROUP, and INMARSAT,

Funny INMARSAT is who told everybody to look in Austrailia, now the plane is seen north of diego-garcia, by remote sensing.

SERCO stole the plane, SERCO-HONEYWELL developed the BUAP (BOEING AUTOPILOT), and used that to steal the plane, SERCO-GROUP wanted the KL-02 (Freescale chip) to tag all criminals on earth, SERCO also owns prisons, and SERCO is also a major OBAMA-CARE contractor.

Either the BUSH family heads will role, or CHINA will declare war on the USA, ... this russia is theatre, ... I agree the OIL pipelines are in the north, and with the COUP and FAUX TEL-AVIV gubmint running UKRAINE its now anarchy, ... nothing less or more, and PUTIN will have move in to protect RUSSIAN's.

Dunno, seems to me Putin's position is fragile. He needs a very strong casus belli to split the EU from the US. Kiev may deny it to him by snuffing the pro-Russians bit by bit without any major event. Just look at how Reuters is playing down anti-Russian responsibility for the fire.

One thing is for sure, all those lines on that map above represents for the most part the young.  It is yet again the old who are pulling the strings, sending commands, and ordering the cannon fodder off to war.  It is always the same pattern repeated over and over.  How is it that humans can´t remember that death and destruction really sucks.  Warpigs.  Read the lyrics.  It´s so fucking true.

Churchill is one of the most deceitful and odious characters of the 20th century and a leading hand (along with Lloyd George) in the destruction of Great Britain and the British Empire.

It sickens me every time I hear, or read of, someone praising his role in the Zionist War of 1912-1948 (though that war is still continuing to this day).

For a more detailed look at the traitorous fuck, check out 'The Controversy of Zion' (pdf) by Douglas Reed (written in 1956 by an experienced foreign correspondent with extensive first-hand knowledge of the times and leading characters).

The outlook for the future seems very bleak indeed. I've never been more concerned about all this shit than I am now and it's just getting worse. How's this one? Our oldest is getting pressure to have kids. I'm staying neutral but the wife not so much. A while back I overheard my two girls talking about this on the phone. She and her husbamd are afraid to have kids because they see wha'ts going on. She actually asked "how would I explain 9-11?" Unreal, it's like 1984.

Thankfully we ditched the TV excepr for occasional OTA mostly obscure channels...but this all sorts of bad news. So, what we do is try to measure success and happiness by the laugh, and we do have a lot of laughs LOL despite all the crappy frauds/swindles/wars/poison blah etc.Polly Anna? Maybe, but I've been active trying to make myself heard to politician jerks in the past but it doesn't work. I've been warned I was close to "inciting a riot" at a polling station. Voting, by the way is also dumb because that's rigged too; and the candidates blow. I don't know what else to do, except try to laugh, so that's it. It seems better than getting blown up. No?

Tall Tom -

"Forgive them father for they know not what they do" - Christ
"The devil misleads the entire inhabited earth" - Paul

I do not want to see anymore people harmed, of any nation. We Americans became apathetic and like the movie Animal House we trusted the Seniors in charge: "You fucked up, you trusted us!"

It happens to all nations. The US was never perfect. Less barbaric and at times more benevolent than other empires but now a monarchy. The US handed the baton of power to China. Now the media is 'China awsome America sucks.' The real memo is - 'Hey investors, put more money in China'. I sure will. After they go through a few years of depression first. For every few stories of selfishness and evil on the street I could give you others of mercy and collaboration.

You are very bright Tall Tom, but you seem to repeatedly be asking for harm to come to others or yourself. No nation on this planet deserves getting nuked. I hope you see an MD and get some Xanax. Tell a doctor you get panic attacks. I am serious.

Many digestive issues result in food not being processed into chemicals the brain needs, the body creates adrenaline in its place which amplifies beta brain waves. It can make you genius but without a way to come down eventually make you insane. This is how your behaving.

We are all imperfect, however evil flows in cycles of > or < .

The Zionists win. They are the only winners out of this.

They say that Putin wants to establish a New Byzantium.

Might be true. As a Romanian, a Christian Orthodox, I have no qualms with a new Byzantium being established, since I consider the Byzantine Empire to be the real light of Christianity. It was Constantine, from Constantinople that established Christianity as the official religion in the Roman Empire.

But, if that's what he wants, he's doing it the wrong way. He's not wining the hearts and minds of the Orthodox Christians in Eastern Europe. By bombing the Georgians he definitely didn't win the hearts of the Georgians.

By what he did with Crimea, he practically said to the world "well you know I have the right to do this, well since Kosovo".

With Crimeea Putin just legitimized Kosovo. From now on, Putin can't complain about Kosovo. How do you think the Orthodox Serbians feel about this now?

By falling into the trap of the Zionists and invading Ukraine, what will Putin accomplish? Orthodox Russian soldiers fighting against Orthodox Ukrainian soldiers.

Putin just falls into the traps of the Zionists.

The Zionists have won the battle against Western Christianity centuries ago, when they made the Vatican make usury not a sin. Michael Hoffman talks very elegantly about this in the following video:

After the Zionists have won over Western Christianity centuries ago, and the Vatican was now in their pockets, they, at the turn of the 20th century, turned against Orthodox Christianity. They sought to destroy it, by bringing atheism, the worst blasphemy against God in Orthodox lands. And they almost succeeded with the bolshevik revolution.

Don't you find it weird that the marxists, instead of bringing revolution to capitalist West, they brought revolution to Orthodox East? Isn't it weird that Lenin was funded by Swiss Zionist bankers to have his revolution? Was he even a Russian? Orthodoxy is the real enemy of the Zionists.

What they seek is destruction of Orthodox lands in Eastern Europe, and they are forcing Putin's hand into invading Ukraine. At first we will have a civil war in Ukraine, then invasion by Russia. That will mean loss of life of Orthodox Ukrainians and Orthodox Russians. Then the conflict will spil further into Romania and Bulgaria and the Baltics. And Putin's Russia will be involved in a bloody conflict, out of which they will not emerge as winners. Nor the Americans.

But the Zionists, they will emerge as the real winners. The Zionists talmudists and kabbalist just need to have they Satanic Messiah come and proclaim himself as first, savior of Israel, then God. For the people of the World to accept the Deceiver as God, they need to have their faith and hope destroyed first. War will do this. Destruction  brought by war will destroy the morale and hope of the people.

The Zionists have their plans to make everyone fight against everyone and destroy themselves, so that after all the fighting&dying is done, they, the Zionists can appears to be the only survivors and Light bringers to the nations

The Zionists in Ukraine are winning as they are winning in Syria. War and destruction only means victory for the Zionists. Blood is the food of Zionists.

The Americans and Russians are losing in Syria just as they will lose in Ukraine. The Zionists control in the shadows both America and Russia. Maybe they are not as stronger in Putin's Russia, as in America, but they pull the string subtly.

Have a look at Putin's talk about his visit to Jerusalem's Wailling Wall here:

Also, how about this:

Roman London

The beginnings of London can be dated with some exactitude to the invasion of the Romans in 43AD. Prior to the Roman invasion there was no permanent settlement of significance on the site of London. Instead, the Thames River flowed through marshy ground sprinkled with small islands of gravel and sand. There were probably more mosquitoes than people inhabiting the area.

of Roman

The commander of the Roman troops was one Aulus Plautius. He pushed his men up from their landing place in Kent towards Colchester, then the most important town in Britain. The Roman advance was halted by the Thames, and Plautius was forced to build a bridge to get his men across.

This first "London Bridge" has been excavated recently, and found to be only yards from the modern London Bridge!

The Roman bridge proved a convenient central point for the new network of roads which soon spread out like a fan from the crossing place and allowed the speedy movement of troops. The Roman settlement on the north side of the bridge, called Londinium, quickly became important as a trading centre for goods brought up the Thames River by boat and unloaded at wooden docks by the bridge.

Just 18 years after the arrival of the Romans, Boudicca, queen of the Iceni tribe of present-day East Anglia, launched her rebellion against the new rulers of Britain. The new trading centre of London was one of her primary targets, and her warriors leveled the burgeoning city to the ground and killed thousands of the traders who had begun to settle there.

The city was quickly rebuilt, with a cluster of timber-framed wooden buildings surrounding the imposing Roman civic buildings. The city continued to grow in size and splendor over the next century, reflecting the increasing importance of trade in Britain.

By the middle of the second century AD, Londinium possessed the largest basilica (town hall) west of the Alps, a governor's palace, a temple, bathhouses, and a large fort for the city garrison. Gracechurch Street, in the City, runs through the middle of the old Roman basilica and forum (market place).

One of the best Roman remains in London is the 2nd century Temple of Mithras (mithraism was a form of religion popular among Roman soldiers). It was found near Walbrook during construction work in this century, and moved to Temple Court, Queen Victoria Street. Artefacts recovered from the excavation of the temple are now in the Museum of London.

While I agree on many of the comments against the US here and in other US activities at home and abroad, the very idea that one would be siding with Putin/Russia fails comprehension in everyway. If ths US is corrupt, which it is, Russia is many multiples on the level of corruption. The only reason Russia hasnt been more "involved" in shaping the world was because we were lucky enough for the despotic, rotten, regime known as the USSR imploded. Now they are trying to rise from or more like salvage the ashes, and a good many here blindly cheer this event. Condemn the US, i think it is often much deserved, but put your support behind Putin and you have betrayed your reason because of your outrage.

Putin is a thug, but right now the United States is far and away the greatest threat to peace in the world. The evidence is staring everybody in the face, and it has been for the past decade. It gives me no great pleasure to point it out, and please don't mistake it as "support" for Putin. It is 100% opposition to the warmongering policies of the United States government. This country has become corrupt beyond repair, and its incessant meddling around the world at the behest of bankers and corporations has brought us to the brink.

I'm 36 years old, so I missed out on the fun of the Cuban Missile Crisis, but I can say with all honesty that this feels like the closest we've been to the actual possibility of nuclear conflict in my lifetime, and the blame for that rests almost entirely on the misguided foreign policy of this country.

The actions of our government reflect on all the citizens. What is being done is being done in our name. I have never been more ashamed of that fact than I am today.

What can’t be taken into account is Mr. Putin’s suggestion, both through words and actions, that he has the right to violate the sovereignty of another country, to violate its territorial integrity, to dictate the economic policies or foreign policy of a sovereign country,” Obama said. “That’s not acceptable.”

I guess it was OK when it was the USSA violating terrirorial inegrity to the tune of $5 billion and FUCK THE EU.

We won't be impolite and bring up Allende, Mossadegha, the Shah of Iran, Egypt, Syria, Iran, Bosnia, Grenada, Panama, Phillipines, Lybia (three times), several banana republics, etc, etc, etc.

To a large extent, the invasion of Iraq was to provide diversion and cover for the takeover of the Afghan poppy fields and heroin production.

It took just 4 weeks after 9-11 to invade Afghanistan!! (while the Iraq smokescreen took 18 months to get troops on the ground).

The Pentagon can't even set up a meeting in 4 weeks, let alone prepare and execute a multi-partner (US, UK, etc) invasion! It was all - including 9-11 - well pre-planned.

All pre-planned, yes. Is it possible to get a 363 page act written in 30 days and passed in 40 days after 9/11/2001 ?

PATRIOT Act involved many parties who opposed and supported the legislation, which was proposed, enacted and signed into law 45 days after the September 11 terrorist attacks of New York City in 2001. (Wiki)

I agree with your comments. As for the closest we have been to nuclear threat since Cuban Missle Crisis, i really dont see that, yet. We may be at the beginning of a series of deteriorations with Russia and China in terms of terriorial and economic conflicts that would bring us in that direction, but as one growing up in the 80s I can tell you we were much more concerned about it then than now. Lots of songs you can find with that theme back then, maybe they will be singing about it in 5-10 years time. What we are witnessing is a prelude of things to come for both Russia and China. I am very concerned about it, but to a large degree we have started down this path as you say over the last decade or so and I dont know how we will/can reverse course.

The rising power of China and the consequence of its closed political and economic systems will determine to a large degree of what the future has in store for us. You may hate the abusive cop on the corner, but while he abuses your rights and this leaves you indignant, without him the world maybe a far nastier place than you can imagine. Dont forget, these two countries brought us Stalin and Mao. Do a little homework on the two so you can see just how repressive and evil things can really get.

Be ashamed, but dont be foolish.

Excellent points with both of you. Phil, I too grew up in the 80's, still remember the Reagan days, "The Day After" movie, Sting and the propoganda of how fat, ugly and hairy all Russian women were. I think I am more ashamed because the United States was suppose to be the land of the free & brave and we are anything but now -because of our current bought out officials who are lying through their teeth while taking large campaign donations along with having the audacity to accept their 6 figure income with bennies. The corporations/FED/ Zionist Wall Street dicks made a deal with another dictatorship when it allowed NAFTA to be implemented, which changed the landscape of the US for decades. Did they make a deal with the devil or did the devil make a deal with some tyrants? I don't know. But I agree with McM in that Putin may be a thug, but he doesn't come out and preach flowery songs of freedom, democracy and unicorns like Bush/Obama while they were bombing people into the stone age.

Thank you for your fair judgements. I too think McMolotov has many valid points. And for the ZH record I am very dsigusted and outraged by the US policies and outright criminal activities against its own and foreign citizens. No doubt the US will deserve its day of reckoning and upcommance, which I hope will be soon enough to save it.

But while the propaganda and hypocracy in the US can leave the air difficult to breathe, I do suggest you listen to what Putin has been saying. He may not speak of democracy and unicorns when it suits his interests like the US does, but my friend, he does speak of territorial annexation and historical right as if it was a birthright of his Russian nation. The annexation of Crimea was quickly followed upon by historical context of Southern/Eastern Ukraine as part of Russia. That, in my view, is a far more dangerous speech than promises of a free world from the debt slavers of the US. While the US may occupy a warm circle in Dante's Inferno, have no doubt the hottest circles are reserved for far more wicked folk that have not too long ago plagued the Earth.

Mc & Phil,

I came of age in the sixties fresh out of grad school - landed in Dallas in time for the Cuban missile crisis.

The supermarket shelves were stripped in a matter of hours.

I was also in Dallas when they got Kennedy.

That's when my real education began. My weltanschauung changed forever.

So it is with each generation.

We struggle with all the horrors of the twentieth century we were born into and now see those horrors resurrected again before our eyes in graphic detail.

Going forward, the existential challenge IMO, is learning how to defeat the beast/deep state in all it's guises without being spiritually poisoned.

I was a young teen when everyone was building bomb shelters, schools had civil defense drills where we all had to hide under our desks, and Kennedy was president and subsequently killed for opposing Israel's effort to go nuclear.

I can say unequivocally, that there is a much greater danger of nuclear armageddon now than there was back then. Like the stock market, everyone is complacent about the possibility of nuclear war because - looking in the rear view mirror - there hasn't been one for the past 65 years.

Be careful what you wish for and give some thought to what would come after such a fall. If you live through that, you won't be flying anywhere for a very long time and sexual assult by TSA agents would be the least of your concerns. Instead, there is a significant risk you might end up on the menu of the cannibals if things deteriorate enough, and I think they could, in the major population centers. If you escape that, you could be paying protection to the local warlord/gangleader instead of taxes and his requirements might be a great deal more onerous than your present tax burden. Obamacare might not look so bad when the blue lines of blood poisoning are marching up your arm because you cut yourself and got an infection or your kid is writhing on the floor with appendiciits. You might come to long for the days of out of control police when its every man for himself.

One has to wonder whether the whole affair was deliberately planned to "attract those who might be a threat to The System". The gathering will certainly have been of interest to the various "Security" agencies, and rest assured vehicle index plates will have been noted (discreetly), and those travelling by public transport will have had their travel details "harvested" too.

Quite the intelligence bonanza, since there's nothing quite as strategically useful as "knowing your enemy".

It will be interesting to see how this information is used in the future. Wonder how many of the "attendees" will be subject to covert surveillance, and how large a proportion will be subject to increased Police interest (e.g. "random" stop and search) in comparison with the rest of the population.

Four of my grandfather's brothers were murdered in Kiev by the Nazis in WWII. I'm not forgetting. The only reason my grandfather survived is because he managed to get out before the Russian Revolution.

Millions of Ukranian people were deliberately starved to death by Bolshevik Jews in the 1930s. It is not and never has been about Ukrainians vs Russians. But pitting European people against each other has always been a speciality of Cheesepopes.

1. Famine in Ukraine in the 30s was in areas inhabited predominantly Russian people. It is south and south-east of Ukraine. Most people died of starvation, were Russian, not Ukrainian.
More than any other, today scream and whine about the hunger, representatives of western Ukraine. But on the western Ukraine famine was not. This is called political prostitution. Because all the so-called "Western Ukraine" in the 30s was state lands of Poland.

2. Stalin never struggled with the Ukrainians, it is not necessary to repeat the nonsense for morons on Faux News propaganda. Stalin fought with the class of prosperous peasants, independed of any nationality of them.
Think about this: Stalin fought with the class of wealthy peasants, regardless of their ethnicity. Therefore famine in 30 years was not only in Ukraine, but in Russia and in Kazakhstan, too.

Any more Nudelman cookies and they could lose the entire country to independance minded regions or even Russia.

Shit... just look at where Odessa is on the map. If it goes Ukraine won't have any need of a navy because it will be effectively LANDLOCKED.

If Russia acts my bet is they move on the axis Belogrod --> Kharkiv --> Cherkasy --> Transnistria.

This splits the Ukrainian forces, interdicts logistics for the southern Ukrainian forces which are then mopped up and sent back to Kiev sans weapons. Such a deep penetration is a key aspect of Russian military doctrine. Given all the arrows converging on Belogrod the map tends to support this thesis.

A few days a go ZH ran a video of a lone Ukrainian army tank tearing up the topsoil as it was harrassed by a Yugo. A lot of the Ukrainian units will be ghost units such that a "battalion" will have very few effective vehicles. When oligarchs rape a country they do not invest much in the military.

Plus for good measure this route includes the terrain of the "Cherkasy Pocket" where Soviet forces surrounded and destroyed a Nazi army in 1945.

But I suspect a great deal will depend on what backroom support Putin obtains from the non-aligned nations ie the ones outside the Atlanticist grouping.

From the Russian side everything is ready to go. Putin is just waiting for the match.

NATO has located some tripwire forces in the Baltic states, Poland, and Rumania, but it would take NATO more than six months to shift major ground forces back into the European theatre.

The key question would be does Putin have the backroom support of the BRICs and other non-aligned nations unhappy with the USSA? That would include all those nations watching the endless stream of USSA military interventions round the world and all those left wondering "Who is next?" and "How many USSA NGOs are operating in my country?" and "What colour will my revolution be? If its going to be puce then I'm with Putin."

Last night I spent a few hours trying to find a way to let Janet Reno know what a worthless human being she is but all her internet presences are blocked so that she doesn't have to hear from the hoi polloi.

So Janet - just in case you troll looking for references to you, know that there are those of us who see you for what you are. You really deserve the most painful, degrading, drawn-out of deaths and when it comes you will be met on the other side by those who you so carelessly destroyed, and I hpe that they will be without mercy as you certainly were.

I'm glad at least three people understand where Exxon operates at least 6 NGL trains.

Fixed it for you Crash.

NGL is ready to go to market no pipeline required. UK recently completed a regasification facilty in the Bristol Channel if memory serves correctly. Not sure about other landing points in Europe. But the UK does have pipeline capacity to the continent so would be able to forward gas to les grenoilles et les autres.

There is a bit of a communication breakdown here, but I believe I can clear up the confusion.

Crash is talking about where natural gas comes from, and sushi is talking about where natural gas goes to. This minor detail ends up being rather significant.
