Depends which propaganda mouthpiece you listen to. Reading the local news they've now be classified as insurgents. You can tell where the US stands as far as the type of conflict and how much of a threat they see them by how they classify groups in certain MSM outlets as rebels/seperatists/terrorists/insurgents/pro or anti government, etc.
Well, yes, labels are applied without finer distinctions and certainly also impose a message. I'm sure among those labeled pro-russian are some who would prefer an independent East Ukraine.
But I don't see it happening ... as soon as (an hypothetical) East declares independence it would be under massive influence from Russia and would become a de facto satellite state. Why? Because this is how Russia deals with her small neighbors for many decades/centuries and won't change her ways anytime soon. It is not a matter of liking it or not, before anybody asks.
And we have to keep in mind that Putin is somewhat refined (but not so subtle)... the next president may be more in line with recent past Russian leaders.

His former employer, also a personal friend, was not happy when Skillt suddenly quit his job to go to Ukraine. Skillt said he went anyway because of a sense of solidarity with the Ukrainian nationalists. ?Nationalists have died on the streets of Kiev,? he recounted. ?And I was able to help them. That is more important than my personal well-being.?
Skillt is 37 years old and has been involved in various Swedish nationalist groups for more than a decade. Between 2002 and 2010 he was active in the National Socialist organization Svenska motståndsrörelsen (Swedish Resistance Movement). Today, he is a member of a small, nationalist political party, Svenskarnas parti (Party of the Swedes), but holds no official position within it. He says he is no longer a National Socialist and describes himself as an ?ethnic nationalist.? ?You are born Swedish,? he explained. ?It's not something you can become.?
After arriving in Ukraine, Skillt joined the organization C14, also known as Sich, which is closely affiliated with the nationalist party Svoboda. In an interview with the BBC, C14's leader, Yevhen Karas, says that his organization has approximately 200 members and that its main objective is to sever all ties between Ukraine and Russia. Some have called him a Nazi, but he firmly denies that accusation. ?I don't think I'm a Nazi, I'm a Ukrainian nationalist,? Karas told the BBC. ?The main confrontation is about that some ethnic groups have control of many business structures, some economical and political forces.?
When asked which ethnic groups he was referring to, Karas clarified, ?Russians and Jews. Some non-Ukrainian groups control a huge percent of the economic and political power. And of course, in this situation you have some tension with the Ukrainian people.?

?Berkut was really disgusting,? he continued. ?I have met some people who were arrested by them. They were tortured, sometimes even maimed. People had toes and fingers cut off. Some were doused in gasoline, while police officers stood next to them, smoking. Others had water poured over them and were then thrown out into -10 degrees C temperatures.?

However, he said he has spoken to two people who sniped at the police on the Maidan Square during the riots. ?They used Saiga semi-automatic rifles equipped with telescopic sights, and were positioned on the third floor of the Trade Unions Building on Maidan Square,? Skillt said. "Their mission was to take out Berkut's snipers," he added.
He also told us that he recently ran into a man in an American uniform, carrying an American-made rifle. ?It was a bit odd, but it turned out he was Ukrainian,? Skillt said. ?He had a modified, short-barrel M-16 with a telescopic sight. We said a quick hello.?

I had to take my dad to a doctor's appointment early this morning, and they had the news on in the lobby. They actually brought up Ukraine, because pro-Russian forces had detained the CBS reporters for about a couple or a few hours. After they were released, the anchor was asking the female reporter about what had happened, and it is just about what you'd expect. All of their belongings were searched, and the woman said that she understood Russian, and that one of the guys was yelling at her, in Russian, that she needed to tell Obama to quit supporting the fascists in Ukraine. She said he was very emotional about it.
If I could get ahold of the guy who was telling her that, I'd simply tell him that Obama doesn't give a shit what we think.

In the late evening on the 8th of March several left-wing activists were attacked in central Malmö by members of the fascist Svenskarnas Parti (Swedes Party). They were on their way home after having taken part in an International Women’s Day demonstration against violence against women. The attack took place immediately after the demonstration. One person is now in intensive care with serious head injuries and a further three have suffered knife injuries of various severity. The Nazis had been searching for potential victims the entire evening in the vicinity of the demonstration, in other words, the attack was not a coincidence.
This is not the first incident of such kind: the far-right violence against leftists has been growing of recent in Sweden as well as in Ukraine. In January, two men attacked a 16-year-old activist of the youth organization of the Social Democratic Party, they warned her to not promote her political views. In other cities the Nazis were watching the demonstrations on March 8, identifying individual activists.
The seriously injured 25 year old activist, who is currently being cared for in a sedated state in hospital, is a leading figure in the fight against racism and homophobia in the football world, a member of the revolutionary syndicalist union SAC and a devoted supporter of Malmö FF. He also helped to found ”Football fans against homophobia” organization. Based on this, his picture has been recently hung out on the Swedes Party linked website ‘Realisten’.
According to witnesses at the scene, a high ranking member of the Swedes Party – Andreas Carlsson was seen attacking feminists with a knife. Earlier this year he along with other members of the Swedes Party has travelled down to Kiev as ”Ukrainafrivilliga” (Ukraine Volunteers) to support the Svoboda party’s efforts in taking power. According to his report, some of the delegation’s participants have stayed, in order ”to enlist in the Ukrainian army” (probably referring to Maidan Self-Defence), while others, including Carlsson returned to Sweden only a few days before the 8th of March.
Interestingly enough, in his recent interview Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt has said that “Svoboda” is the party of ‘European Democrats who work for our values”??. Swedish left-wing activists firmly believe, it was this tolerance to the fascist parties, that gave the signal for the Swedes Party, that their violence will be tolerated by the public. Obviously, they could not but be inspired by the widespread presence of “Svoboda” and other far-right groups on Maidan, where those were able to impose their own ideological hegemony upon the apolitical citizens.

They couldn't have done it without some help from supposed enemies of their ideology but if you understand the religious undertones to all these groups they have a very important uniting force through a major deception/lie that has been propogated by the puppetmasters for centuries now that only one group doesn't ascribe to in this conflict.

I am an American who lives in Odessa. I can assure you that FAR MORE than 80% oppose the post-coup Kiev government - probably more like 95% or more. In fact, I personally know NO ONE in Odessa who supports Kiev; and I believe that the people in the Odessa oblast will demand INDEPENDENCE from the Kiev government. However, people appear to be split on whether to join Russia OR to form some type of federation with other oblasts in southern and eastern Ukraine.
That would be pretty badass if snipers sometimes used pistols. I thought it was retarded how video games often had scopes on pistols, but apparently people actually do that. It's a real thing.

The Odessans were attacked by pro-Kiev supporters (including many Right-Sector members) who came down by train and car. These pro-Kiev thugs were armed primarily with long metal pipes (from my personal observations) and charged a group of pro-Russian Odessans carrying flags and signs.
An acquaintance (a police captain in Odessa) told us that the police were warned they were coming from Kiev, but said they did not expect so many - and so there were insufficient police when the attack began. We heards some shot also, but did not see who or how many were hit. We left the area soon after.
