US F-15 Intercepts Russian Strategic Bomber Near Guam

Tyler Durden's picture

It appears Russian military activities are picking up around the world. As AP reports, the commander of U.S. air forces in the Pacific is reporting a significant increase in activities by Russian planes and ships in the region; adding that "there had been long-range Russian air patrols to the coast of California ... and a U.S. F-15 fighter jet intercepted a Russian strategic bomber that had flown to Guam."

As AP reports,

The commander of U.S. air forces in the Pacific is reporting a significant increase in activities by Russian planes and ships in the region.

Gen. Herbert Carlisle linked that to the situation in the Ukraine. He said Russia was demonstrating its capabilities and gathering intelligence on U.S. military exercises.

Carlisle said there had been long-range Russian air patrols to the coast of California and a circumnavigation of the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam. He said a U.S. F-15 fighter jet intercepted a Russian strategic bomber that had flown to Guam.

He also reported a sharp increase in Russian air patrols around Japanese islands and Korea.

Carlisle said there was a lot more Russian ship activity too.

He was speaking Monday at the Center for Strategic and International Studies think tank.

The legacy and arsenal of biological weapons Russia inherited from USSR in 1991 became a lingering unsolved issue, in terms of a prime strategic arm that ought to be eliminated, advisably, in accordance with the Biological Weapons Convention Russia is committed to, and considering further undertakings and declarations made by the Russian regime. Indeed, that inheritance was created by USSR as a powerful, highly sophisticated component of utmost importance within the Soviet military paradigm, based on a wide spectrum of virulent, stabilized pathogens and toxins plus delivery systems. Moreover, remarkably advanced biotechnologies were thus applied to procure stockpiles of military-grade pathogens and toxins. Yet, an intriguing debate aroused with regard to the extent of the weaponized biological inventory accumulated by USSR, as well as the in effect attitude of Russia towards perpetuating or wiping out that inheritance. It turned out to form a far reaching and challenging complexity, both strategically and scientifically. The present study concentrates on the strategic as well as scientific spheres shaping that overall issue at large, attempting to thoroughly analyze it through an innovative methodology. One main conclusion thereby reached at is that the Russian military still poses a potential menance, in terms of both stockpiled, probably deployable biological weapons, and prevailing production capacities.

Russia

State declarations: In 1992, Boris Yeltsin acknowledged that theUSSR had pursued an extensive and offensive BW program throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He banned any more of such work being undertaken. However, there is little public information of any more specific declarations of whatRussia may continue to possess.

Allegations: Agents weaponized included tularemia, typhus, Q fever, smallpox, plague, anthrax, Venezuelan equine encephalitis, glanders, brucellosis, andMarburg. Researched numerous other agents and toxins that can attack humans, plants, and livestock.

The 2010 report details thatRussia continues to engage in dual-use biological research activities, yet there is no evidence that such work is inconsistent with BWC obligations. It assesses that it remains unclear whether Russiahas fulfilled its obligations underArticle I of the convention.

Potential delivery systems: include fighter aircraft, artillery, rockets, helicopters, short-range ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. The former Soviet program planned to deliver certain agents, such as smallpox, anthrax, and plague, by ICBM.

State declarations: Possessed the world’s largest chemical weapons stockpile: 40,000 metric tons of chemical agent, including VX, sarin, soman, mustard, lewisite, mustard-lewisite mixtures, and phosgene.

Russia has declared this to the OPCW and has commenced destruction. Along with the United States, Russia received an extension when it was unable to complete destruction by the 2012 deadline imposed by the CWC. As of August 2013, Russia has destroyed about 30,400 metric tons of chemical agents. It plans to complete destruction between 2015-2016. [4]

Allegations: The U.S. has some reservations about Russian compliance, as expressed in the 2010 report which states “The United States is unable to ascertain whether Russia’s CWC declaration is complete.”

Potential delivery systems: include artillery, bombs, spray tanks, and short-range ballistic missiles.

Geneva Protocol:
Acceded 4/5/28.

BWC: Signed
4/10/72, ratified
3/26/75.

The excitable naval aviator and host to Hillary at an Arizona forum, Senator John McCain, is like a one-man Empire army, on the ground in Kiev, on the floor in DC demanding weapons systems be situated all over the world, and encircling Russia on every side, peering at the Urals from Europe and now from, for Heaven’s sake, the Pacific.

And the Russia is watching its back, hardly surprising.

Radio Free Europe reports that amid the crisis in Ukraine, McCain has called “for faster integration of Georgia and Moldova into the structures of NATO…the need for placing parts of a U.S. missile defense system in the Czech Republic and Poland… for Aegis-class missile defense based initially in the Black Sea and eventually in Romania.”

also Russia denies to Lithuania any more inspections of Kaliningrad region

Mon, 05/05/2014 - 19:03 | 4730093 JR
JR's picture

Kaliningrad is Russian territory, isolated on the border between Lithuania and Poland where the influence of NATO is now building against the Russians in Kaliningrad.

All of these areas are within Russia’s zone of influence and prior to the IMF coup in Kiev, Russia was on friendly, cooperative relations with most of these governments, including the exchange of military information and, in the case of Lithuania, inspections.

When the McCain invasion took place in Ukraine and was accompanied by a full military ramp-up of NATO into countries around Russia, coupled with a barrage of western propaganda concerning the danger of Russian invasion, the friendly relations that were building commerce and peaceful pacts involving Russia were destroyed.

Now, there are only two players on the battlefield – the Russian Federation and the International Monetary Fund supported by the Federal Reserve.

It’s important to realize that the NATO buildup and threats from NATO involved the political elites of these former Soviet countries and not the people, as is the case in America. How better to explain that up to a dozen Ukrainian cities have lost their civil leadership to protesters.

And in that battlefield between the forces that would attack Russia lie the towns and villages of innocent people throughout Ukraine and its neighbors, all collateral damage to US/Israeli aggression.

Just three days ago, as RT reported:“A group of NATO ships has arrived in the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda to “ensure regional security,” the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense has said. Russia has already voiced its concern over the “unprecedented” buildup of NATO forces in the region.

“The group is composed of 4 minesweeping ships from Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium and Estonia as well as one supply vessel. The ships will take part in intensive military drills, stopping off at various ports in the region. They will also participate in operation “Open Sprit” deactivating underwater explosives.

“The Lithuanian Minister of Defense Juozas Olekas said in a statement the drills will “ensure our national and regional security and collective defense.” (Talk about hypocrisy!)

“The contingent of ships is not the only NATO force to have been deployed in the region recently. Last week, the United States announced the deployment of 600 soldiers who will participate in military drills in Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia to show solidarity with NATO members that border Russia.

“In addition, Britain and France have sent 8 fighter jets to Poland and Lithuania to step up aerial patrol in the region. As well as the increased aerial presence, NATO has also deployed ships in the Black Sea, Baltic Sea and East Mediterranean.

“Russia views this recent escalation in NATO forces so close to its border as a provocation and counter-productive in the struggle to de-escalate tensions in Ukraine. On Monday, Russia’s Minister of Defense Sergey Shoigu appealed to his American counterpart, Chuck Hagel, to cool down the rhetoric over Ukraine and work together to defuse the situation.

Sooo, WestcoastLiberal, you are suggesting all those Bush appointees who have been reappointed, or appointed anew, by Obama and (Hillary) Clinton, weren't coincidental after all, huh?

So appointing neocon Victoria Nuland (whose husband was a founding member of PNAC, Robert Kagan, whom Obama has expressed respect for) to State, along with Bush inner circle guy and family relative, Marc Grossman, wasn't an accident?

Honestly, this sort of shit has been going on for years.  Anyone in the Navy, or Air Force that has operated anywhere near the Russian, the Chinese etc etc coasts and borders would confirm if they were allowed to.  They always probe, always.  And sometimes, they even take the piss.  It's a cock waving competition ffs, at least you couldn't doubt that.  But now it's useful as a public manipulation tool, so lets make 10% of it public.

It's like NK.  The South Koreans couldn't give a fuck about NK and it's nuke aspirations.  They've been within artillery range for decades.  The truth is always very different.

By using the weasel word “circumnavigation" (to travel all away around something; to go completely around),it appears to me, rs, that Gen. Herbert J. "Hawk" Carlisle -- the Commander of Pacific Air Forces; Air Component Commander for U.S. Pacific Command;  Executive Director, Pacific Air Combat Operations Staff, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, as the PACAF, responsible for Air Force activities spread over half the globe in a command that supports 45,000 Airmen serving principally in Japan, Korea, Hawaii, Alaska and Guam – is pulling a WWI type propaganda ploy to help designate Russia as dangerous and increasingly aggressive to American interests.

The Russians, it appears, are not crossing US airspace; they are flying on the edge of US airspace. Otherwise, the US would be screaming, not making statements at a bipartisan Washington DC think tank

No shots have been fired between the two countries and ships and planes, like always, are operating in international waters.

Let’s hope this sinks Rand Paul…

Rand Paul’s Terrible Position on Ukraine | LewRockwell.com | May 5, 2014

Michael S. Rozeff

Rand Paul’s position on Ukraine is like that of the Senate warmongers who have signed on to that terrible “Russian Aggression Prevention Act of 2014? in being anti-Russian and pro-intervention. It’s not precisely the same but its premises, tone, goals, thrust, blame-placing, call for sanctions and childish treatment of Russia all add up to his brand of interventionism in Ukraine and in Ukraine-Russian relations. If the U.S. political process produces a Hillary Clinton vs. Rand Paul race in 2016, voters who now favor a much greater non-interventionist position will have no place to go in the two major parties.

Rand Paul’s op-ed on Ukraine is filled with a lot of rubbish.

Rand Paul is on the side of Ukrainian autonomy.  Russia is preventing Ukrainian Autonomy.

So Rand Paul got this one positions correct.  That is something, I guess.

Paul aside, it appears to me that Russia is waking the USA sleeping giant.  And EU is starting to stir as well.  Good deal.

To elect either Rand Paul or Hillary Clinton is to tighten the grip of the Fed and its IMF auxiliary on not just the Ukrainians, but on the American people. Instead of electing a leader who will abolish the Fed cartel, Americans will elect a president who will strengthen the power of the insiders.

The purpose of the Kiev coup, it is clear, was to put IMF operative Arseniy Yatsenyuk in power with the help of Ukrainian fascists.

Yats is Victoria Nuland’s buddy who plays down his Jewish-Ukrainian origins. Based on research by Dr. E. Michael Jones, Yats is  “a millionaire former banker who has served as head of the central bank, foreign minister and economic minister—and who was committed to harsh austerity, which meant plundering pension funds and raising prices to make sure that the banks got their loans repaid first.

“Yats was a member of the Fatherland Party, whose head, Yulie Tymoshenko, was in prison for embezzlement and other crimes but would be released as soon as Yats was installed as the head of the new US-backed government.

“The financial elites and their think-tank lackeys knew who Yats was and what they could expect from him. Ariel Cohen, senior fellow at the Heritage Foundation explained to Bloomberg that ‘Yatsenyuk has a strong economic background,' which will lead the Ukraine back from the brink of bankruptcy. ‘Ukraine,’ Cohen continued, ‘faces difficult reforms, but without them there won’t be a successful future.’

“Once installed in power, Yats turned the country over to the IMF looters that Yanukovych had rejected...”

And, by the way, novictim – the USA is not a sleeping giant. The American Empire never sleeps. And the EU has been stirring so much that along with NATO and the IMF it is creating the Ukraine crisis.

And as for Rand Paul’s being on the side of Ukrainian autonomy, Ukraine had autonomy with an elected government before it was ruthlessly and murderously overturned by a CIA-IMF-NATO plot.

With every step, Rand Paul disappoints (endorsing McConnell over a qualified challenger, suggesting Roe vs. Wade probably can’t be overturned, refusing to side with senators to shut down the government over Obamacare and suggesting Obamacare cannot be repealed, and proposing a bill to deny foreign aid to the Palestinians if they do not recognize Israel), and we haven’t even reached the primary; if he were the Republican candidate how many more positions would he surrender to our enemies?

We have given our heart and soul Ron Paul in his quest against foreign aid, the welfare system, big government, foreign entanglements and the Federal Reserve. Doesn’t Ron owe us now to cut his political ties with this experimental politician who not only is not smart enough to run for president but is pretending to have deep set values that parallel his father’s by using his father's name.

We need help right now in sinking this guy to make room for a legitimate opposition candidate.
