Britain Deploys Destroyer To "Shadow" Russian Aircraft Carrier

Tyler Durden's picture

In case US destroyers operating in the Black Sea was not sufficiently clear of the western approach to containing Russia, the latest naval news will hardly boost the de-escalation theme. Reuters reports that earlier today Britain had deployed a destroyer to track a Russian aircraft carrier sailing close to its coastal waters, "the latest in a series of such incidents and a reminder of underlying tensions between London and Moscow."

The reason the Russian navy is suddenly a concern to Britain is because the Admiral Kuznetsov, which is capable of carrying up to 26 fixed-wing fighters and 24 helicopters, had completed a deployment as part of Moscow's naval force in the Mediterranean "and was on its way back to its base of Severomorsk in north-west Russia." As part of this return, the carrier is to pass in proximity to the British isles, so just in case it gets any ideas, the UK is preparing a welcome party.

A spokesman from Britain's Ministry of Defense said HMS Dragon had been "activated" on Wednesday in response to the approach of a Russian task force including the Admiral Kuznetsov, Russia's only aircraft carrier.

"It was activated yesterday to meet the Admiral Kuznetsov task force," the spokesman told Reuters.

This is not the first time Britain has deployed warships to keep Russia at bad:

HMS Dragon, a modern air-Defense destroyer, was deployed in similar circumstances just last month to shadow another Russian warship, the Vice-Admiral Kulakov, as it sailed past Britain.

Britain last month also scrambled Typhoon fighter jets to see off Russian military planes flying close to its airspace off the coast of Scotland.

And in other news, the VIX is sliding on the prospect that central planning is once again firmly in control, which alongside the now traditional post-open USDJPY ramp, has sent the S&P500 well on its way to new all time highs.

Yeah, but all the Ruskies or Chinese need to do is build a few battleships disguised as cruise ships and they could pull right up and dock here and nobody would notice.

Then again, they could probably pull right up and dock one of their battle ships as is here and nobody would notice!

Ukraine: Unraveling the Planned Chaos

"in Brussels in 2006 that was reported in The Brussels Journal, “show very clearly that the whole idea of turning the European common market into a federal state was agreed between the left-wing parties of Europe and Moscow as a joint project which Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev in 1988-89 called our ‘common European home."

"Employing the indispensible insight and analysis provided by Golitsyn and the detailed information in his books, it is difficult to view the orchestrated chaos that has been unfolding in Ukraine without recognizing unmistakable evidence that it is being directed along a pre-planned path toward EU-U.S.-Ukraine-Russian convergence. Putin’s role is to rattle the sabers menacingly enough to frighten reluctant Ukraine to join the EU, while also convincing American and EU taxpayers to be forthcoming with the foreign aid and IMF funding that will “rescue” Ukraine and avert a war."

Does not make any sense, at least to me.  If Russia wanted to partner up with the EU, it could just do that.  Then, Ukraine would have no choice but to join.  There is absolutely no need to "create" a chaos in Ukraine

The British ship is a missle carrier.  So in a hot war scenario it would be tasked to take out the carrier.  The shorter the distance between the carrier and the launch site the shorter the response time.  So the British ship is a threat an overt one to Russia.  Are the British really that stupid that they would ever launch on Russia ?  Really doubt it !  So it is all show no go, and the Russian know.

US missle frigate, who knows ?  Maybe they would maybe they wouldn't.

So the British commanders took on the task to avoid the US tasking a ship to do the same thing, knowing the US is out of control.

some people say all the russian elite hide their wealth in london. i don't think so.

it's obvious that london is a major city of refuge for putin's enemies. why would he want to hide his money in the same city as they do?

one where he has the least control?

i believe the russians in london are a classic expatriate 'government in waiting' . putin knows they will be backed by the west and nato as intruders. he wants them poor and dead. or better as SPIES.

so really, any attempt by london to confiscate their wealth as sanctions only HELPS putin in some respects and then the banks of london then lose their attractiveness as a haven for ill-gotten wealth. london banks lose in the long run.  Hong Kong and Singapore win.

Speaking of fucking false flags, here's the latest Sarin exposé from the excellent Gareth Porter:

Sellstrom revealed in the interview that the team had chosen 36 people from the original 80 identified as survivors by the opposition. Those 36 people described themselves as having had very serious exposure to Sarin.

Thirty of the 36 reported rocket strikes either on or near their homes. The remaining six said they had gone to a point of impact to help those suffering from the attack.

The U.N. report provided detailed statistics on the symptoms reported by the 36 individuals and concluded the data were “consistent with organophosphate intoxication”. But chemical weapons specialists have identified serious contradictions in the data that appear to indicate the contrary.

The British Pound was worth $5 in 1934, so you could say that the Pound has LOST 70% of its value against the US Dollar since that time.  When you are in London you ma feel like your purchasing power is lost, but that is only because London is drawing in big bankers and foreigners who actually do have appreciating currencies.  Those two groups are buying up all of the housing and filling up restaurants and stores.  Even Londoners (who do have British Pounds) can't afford to live or work there.

Spungo:

I don't have a clue why anyone would down your remark about carriers - considering how true it is.

I just posted this at the WSJ - slightly off topic as a whole, but it reinforces your point about carriers:

It's interesting to note the lack of US carrier task forces anywhere near the South China Sea.

That's significant. It means the US is doing nothing to project power into this area

Why?

Let me respectfully suggest that the reason the carriers are pulled is because the US is incapable of responding - and the Joint Chiefs know it. While we can blame the lack of formal NATO ties in Ukraine, we have no lack of ties to this area. SEATO was created specifically to project US power into this region.

Another reason? Yes - carriers are the sitting ducks of this naval age. Hypersonic, low flying missiles will take out a carrier in a heartbeat. The last thing the US needs is for the world to see that not only does the Emperor Obama have no clothes, but he has no credible naval forces when challenged by countries other than those populated with brown people using AK-47s as their heavy weapons.

The truth is that Taiwan might as well begin negotiating now to be annexed by China. The US is not going to sail the Seventh Fleet through the straits again and think it will intimidate China. We'd be lucky if the Chinese didn't call it a war-provocation and take the entire fleet out in one attack.

Same for the Persian Gulf: Iran is dead serious about taking out a carrier. And they now have the missiles to do so.

And who can forget the Chinese sub popping up - undetected - in the middle of a task force exercise? One nuclear tipped torpedo and that fleet is gone forever.

It's over folks. The American Empire is in its death throes. Obama and the Looney Tunes Left-Wing 5% Fringe have succeeded in destroying our military, and the dollar is next.

Obama promised to "fundamentally change America."

Among his thousands of lies, that is the one promise he's kept.
