Russia Launches Two ICBMs, Rebuffs "Simulated Massive Nuclear Strike" As Part Of Military Drill
Remember when Putin "de-escalated" and promised the Russian forces were being pulled back from the Ukraine border? That didn't last long. Fast forward 24 hours, when we learn that the very same Putin oversaw a military exercise involving Russia's nuclear forces.

While Putin said the exercise had been planned back in November, it comes as relations between Russia and the West have plunged to their lowest point since the Cold War over Ukraine.
Putin, speaking from the Defense Ministry's headquarters where he oversaw the exercise along with leaders of several ex-Soviet nations which are members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, said that the maneuvers involved the military across the entire Russian territory, including the nation's nuclear forces.
Russian news wires said that the exercises simulated dealing a massive retaliatory nuclear strike in response to an enemy attack. The description of the exercise is unusually blunt, reflecting tensions with the West running high over Ukraine.
As part of the maneuvers, a Topol intercontinental ballistic missile launched from the Plesetsk launch pad in northwestern Russia successfully hit a designated target on the Kura testing range on the far eastern Kamchatka peninsula, the military said.
Two nuclear submarines of the Northern and Pacific Fleets, the Tula and the Podolsk, also fired intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Back in the 80's the economic growth was real. The Soviets were left behind, espcially in the area of science. They had no chance of keeping up with US microcomputers and the weaponry it enabled. They also starved as we Americans were getting fat.
Now the computers are made in China, the programmers in Russia, along with the oil, natural gas and non GMO food. We are still fat though.

Remember where Oil and Gold were when Reagan took over? They were in the neighborhood of $30 a barrel and $500 an ounce. Both fell dramatically under Reagan. As Browne made this and other points I would look across the patio and look at Mrs. Casey and Al Haig and both would be nodding in agreement with Browne's points.
The conclusion of the speech was that it worked, and the Soviets ran out of money and fell.
There are people who believe that the American government is today manipulating the price of gold downward for their own purposes. I do not know if this is true, however I do know they have the capability to do so as they did it in the 1980s to bankrupt the Soviets. In that case I applaud what they did, it was in our countries best interest, it freed millions from Communist slavery and it may have saved millions of lives in future wars that were prevented.
It is encouraging to know that a huge problem that went unsolved for 70 years was solved when one person with the assistance of others decided for the first time to tackle it proactively. A lesson for all of us when someone says a problem is too big to tackle.

I was reading about the Little Ice Age yesterday. The author was making the case that when Native Americans stopped burning America's forests (and undergrowth) and regrowth took over, so much CO2 was sucked out of the atmosphere temperatures declined (roughly from 1550-1750).
Only problem is... Millions upon millions of people were dying at that time. The forests grew back because of massive population reduction (primarily thanks to the introduction of smallpox, plague, malaria, etc.).
The author was postulating the Little Ice Age as proof that humans have impacted the climate for hundreds of years. Except I think he overlooked that small detail that people were dying, rapidly. Not exactly a 'Hey, lets try that old trick from the Little Ice Age' scenario.

Barclays CEO defends plans as 19,000 jobs cut

Fascist Massacre in Odessa: Shocking Details Unveiled

The death toll from the massacre in Odessa’s House of Trade Unions is said to be 116, not 46, as it was reported earlier. Some were burned alive, others suffocated in toxic smoke, some others jumped to their deaths out of the windows of the burning building, or were shot in the head. On May 6th, Odessa held the first funeral ceremony for the victims of the terrible tragedy.
While the people of Odessa are mourning the victims, the head of Ukraine’s Security Bureau, Nalivaychenko, says the protests of federalization supporters should be suppressed in a few days. Interior Minister Avakov is sending a special purpose battalion to “help” Odessa.
“There was some kind of gas, from which it was simply impossible to breathe. That is, the airways would be clogged to such an extent that people would just lose consciousness. There was something else in the air, not just carbon monoxide, that created the strangling effect. They wanted us to suffocate and burn,” one of the few survivors named only as Yuri said.
Medics said that many of the victims died without receiving any skin burns: their lungs burnt from inside.
“We were knocked down on the floor, all men, and they told us: “Everybody down!” Then they started beating us with bats, on our heads and backs. We did not know what to do. Then they took us out to the hallway, to the fire escape and through the back door. They threw us in to a puddle, and Right Sector militants continued to beat us there,” a survivor of the horrific attack said.
In Odessa, people do not believe the official information, which says that the number of victims is 46. Many charred bodies were found on the floor of the House of Trade Unions. Some of them had only upper part of the body and hands burnt, while the lower part was left untouched by the fire. This may mean that the raging militants would pour fuel on the heads of the people and then set them on fire. The hands of such victims are charred to the bone, which means that the victims were trying to put down the fire on their heads and torsos. There are women and young people among the killed.
Illegitimate Prime Minister Yatsenyuk did not come to the House of Trade Unions to lay flowers in memory of those who died there terrible deaths. He came to Odessa to replace the administration of the local Ministry for Internal Affairs.
Not less than a thousand militants of the Right Sector nationalist movement have reportedly arrived in Odessa from Dnepropetrovsk. The brutal clashes in Odessa may continue.

Yup and for all of the pomp & circumstance about the Russian ground military forces surrounding Ukraine and on the Baltic country borders, the overwhelming majority of their forces are still in the East especially along the Russian-Chinese border.
We got nukes too and I'm pretty sure Putin isn't looking to get himself and his country destroyed. Unless, Putin does indeed decide to go out with a bang I, for one, am not worried at this point.
Remember what ICBM stands for, Intercontinental Ballistic Missile, a missile with a range greater than 3400 miles, primariy designed for nuclear weapons delivery. And the last time I looked, North America was a continent.
