Users of bath salts have reported experiencing symptoms including headache, heart palpitations, nausea, and cold fingers. Hallucinations, paranoia, and panic attacks have also been reported, and news media have reported associations with violent behavior, heart attack, kidney failure, liver failure, suicide, an increased tolerance for pain, dehydration, and breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue.

Visual symptoms similar to those of stimulant overdoses include dilated pupils, involuntary muscle movement, rapid heartbeat and high blood pressure. Many documented users have also had a history of mental illness.

Is anyone dumb enough to think that as long as their wages stay at ~8$ hr they won't be replaced by machines....? This argument comes up way too often for how inane it is.

I haven't been to a mcdonalds in a very long time but I'm assuming the people running the tills also do much more than this machine does (i.e. grab orders, check on the fries etc.) hence why they haven't been replaced yet.

"Fuck!  In that case, I'd better work for three cents per week so that I can guarantee that a machine won't replace me!!!!!"
"Gee, I'd much rather work my guts out while I'm homeless than just be unemployed and homeless!"

Wouldn't the companies save a shitload more money if they replaced their CEOs with robots?

fonestar       No.  Traders think that they are making profits while failing to understand what "money" even is.  fonestar is a BTC hoarder.

----

I'm glad you are hoarding them. I hope you get them all and take them off the market. Bitcoins if the digital version of MLM or a pyramid scheme.

Severe Problem Number 1: Seeding Initial Wealth When the federal reserve "prints money", it doesn't just mail million-dollar checks to random Americans. It does one of two things. It either (a) purchases some other asset [generally US treasury bonds] on the free market, thereby injecting more cash into the system than there had been before, or (b), loans money to a bank, who will then loan it to other people who will then spend it.

Importantly, the people on the other end of those transactions did not just get free money. They either sold an asset for cash, or they borrowed cash that they will eventually repay (with interest).

Bitcoin does not have a central bank capable of printing and lending bitcoins; it has an "algorithm" which through some convoluted mechanism allows bitcoins to be "mined". Essentially it randomly allocates bitcoins to early adopters. This is a very good system for early adopters (free money!) It is a nonsensical system for a real currency, not to mention being obviously unscalable (what happens when everyone tries to mine bitcoins all day long?). To solve this second problem, the supply of bitcoins is algorithmically limited, which is again good for early adopters. But that brings us to... Built in Deflation Bitcoin is not designed to be a functioning currency, it's designed to enrich early adopters. Again, that is why it is a scam. Period. Full article : http://www.quora.com/Bitcoin/Is-the-cryptocurrency-Bitcoin-a-good-idea/a... Get bitcons for free if you can and cash them in. Otherwise don't waste your time on a digital tulip bubble.

yes, exactly like a normal checking account, with no ability to overdraft. Receiving money is a credit to the account, and then when you send that money to someone else, it is debited from the account.

... and how much would the US worker have to accept in order to compete?  Tell me again, how much do the Indians get paid?  What is the cost of the technology spread to an hourly basis?  (All they need is a little training and a fucking telephone, maybe a cheap laptop.)  Meanwhile, the price of real estate means the US worker could never justify working for so little.

If your job cannot feed, clothe and house you then it is not a job.  It is a "hobby".

What, if the minimum wage goes up then your income won't also go up?  What part of the word, "MINIMUM" do you not understand??????????????

Correction:  People will lose jobs due to jobs being sent overseas to countries that have a lower minimum wage.  Apart from that, an increase in the minimum wage does not make anything unaffordable.  At worst, everyone else demands a similar percentage increase and affordability of everything STAYS THE SAME.  Oh, except DEBT IS DILUTED and so everyone is better off.  Except the banksters, who will probably want to increase interest rates to make up for the diluted repayments on their debt.  Or they may not bother.  Because AS LONG AS THE BANKSTERS KEEP GETTING BAILED OUT THEY CAN KEEP LENDING MONEY TO IDIOTS AND MAKE EVERYTHING UNAFFORDABLE, ESPECIALLY THE PRICE OF REAL ESTATE WHICH KEEPS BEING BID UP TO PRICES THAT ARE UNAFFORDABLE!!!!

Oh yeah, and IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED, REAL ESTATE PRICES HAVE BEEN BID UP TO UNAFFORDABLE LEVELS.  MORTGAGE DEBT AND STUDENT LOANS ARE UNREPAYABLE.  Why do I mention this?  Because the powers that be want don't want people to default on their loans (otherwise they don't make an income themselves - except for the bailout packages themselves), and they don't want to crash the price of real estate or forgive the student loans (because God forbid that they lose their phony asset valuations even if they do drive the rest of the world down the shitter while trying to keep the bullshit alive), and so the only option left is to create inflation and push wages up so that people actually have enough fiat in their pockets to make repayments.  So fancy that.  Perhaps it is the banksters themselves that are trying to protect their own interests that want the minimum wage to be increased!  While you contemplate this idea, it may help to remember that minimum wage workers are paid the minimum because they have no leverage!  And banksters bought the govt a long time ago.  At this point, people like to mention the voting power of the Free Shit Army, but I don't believe them.  Politicians make and break promises all the time.  Election issues are ignored.  Referendums are ignored.  But a bunch of drug-fucked losers can guide govt policy?  Bullshit.  Half of them don't even know which party gives them the bennies.  (Okay, your country may be different but I can tell you from experience, even my country's workers can't tell you which political party gives them the bennies.  Not only that but I can cite examples where political parties have enacted policies that are contrary to their "beliefs".  Confused?  Not when you realise that they simply pick up from where the last party left off.)

Quick economic history of my city:

20 years ago:  Mortgage on a good house cost half the minimum wage.
Now:  Mortgage on Cheapest house in the cheapest suburb costs 100% of the minimum wage.

SO WHAT IS REALLY FUCKING UP THE ECONOMY?????  THE MINIMUM WAGE OR THE PRICE OF REAL ESTATE????????

Quick note on the "power" of the "free shit army" :  A Labor govt introduces a $7000 "First Home-buyer's grant".  The opposite party, Liberal, increases that grant to $14000 and later on to $21000.  Is the FSA really that dumb?  Are they really that powerful?  Did houses become affordable?  No, the prices went UP.  If 7 grand is now available for a ten percent deposit then prices can increase by 70 grand.  (Oh, but what about repayments???  You can re-jigger the maths, but we've had our mortgage documentation frauds over here).  Where is all the you-beaut "free markets" delivering competitively priced housing?  That was a rhetorical question.  What's more important at the moment is who benefited most from the First Home Buyers' Grant the BORROWERS or the BANKS ???

Of course, once you add in all the government-imposed costs of employing someone, an employee must generate probably close to twice the 'minimum' wage to be economically employable.

I did a quick run with my Windows calculator and I multiplied 30 hours (Likely work week for minimum wage person) by $8 (Rough diffrence between Federal minimum and $15) by the number of minimum wage workers given by Google (3.6 million).  You get somewhere around $40 Billion.  Let's say you give a subsidy to all minimum wage employers to pay for the raise.  So for less than half of one month of peak QE you could get real increase in working peoples wages that could offset some of the MASSIVE over capacity in our economy.  Not saying it would be easy as someone already makeing $15 is going to be an issue.  But in a fiat world this could realisitically stimulate demand with far less moral hazard than dumping money on Wall Street.

Flame away ;-)

"I agree I'd far rather see central banking largess introduce inflation by bailing out the populace, than the bankers."

I hear you, but it's never gonna happen. I think they have tortured the private workforce and at the same time rewarded the federal workforce on purpose. I believe at some point the private worker is going to get so sick of their teacher/cop/firefighter etc. neighbor making serious coin and rail against them. In response to this, the private worker will not be rewarded, but rather the government workers will have their benefits etc. slashed until they  re in the shit house too. Unfortunately "they" have succeeded in creating that divide and so both groups are too concerned withthemselves to get together and rail against the banker class and enjoy some populace induced inflation.

I'm seeing this already.  I know the math's not exact but I like to use the 80/19/1 ratio when talking economics in America.  The 80 got thrown overboard During Regan's first term and int went into overdrive when Greenspan was appointed.  The only relief they've found is when the market cycles have briefly returned asset prices within their reach.  The 19 started going down around 2000, only kept afloat by debt.  Fewer and fewer of the 19 participate in the ponzi, so they are on their weay to joining the 80.  We need enough of the 19 to join with the 80 instead of chasing the 1.  Maybe then we can stop this bickering over scraps and place the oligarchs heads on the sticks which they belong.

It's gonna take the people with the weapons (military and law enforcement) turning.  Unfortunately the sociopathic pigs that make up the police these days don't give much hope.  Alot of old timer "peace officers" are disgusted by these thugs with badges.

Oh, you don't believe the minimum wage is a bowl of gruel?  Well, I guess you weren't born back in the days before unemployment benefits and minimum wages.  Take away unemployment benefits and minimum wages.  Ten people, one job.  None of the ten people own any land.  What is the free market minimum wage?  The guy that actually works and produces something - who does he sell it to?  For how much?

The other big problem with the minimum wage is that it prices anyone whose maximum wage is below it out of the market.

There will always be some spastic that can't earn his keep.

True story - many years ago a boss hired some "special" people to do a menial task.  He paid the "special" people ten percent of the minimum wage.  The govt chipped in to make the "special" peoples wage up to a pension sized wage.  After a few months, the boss sacked the "special" workers because they weren't even worth that much.  In the mean time, many able-bodied people were unemployed.  Fuck your "prices the weak out of the market" bullshit.  When willing and able workers are on the unemployment scrapheap, your argument means jack shit.  It means shit anyway.  The minimum wage is supposed to be a minimum.  Good people are supposed to be paid more.

Fuck, no-one talks about that any more, do they?

F--k this replacement and f--k MCD.

Iwas better off earning minimum of 2.60 in 1969 then I would be if I was making minimum today. You can argue about whether the minimum should exist or not but there is no f--king way starting wages of any sort have kept up in 40 years. With no other righting mechanism, a fair minimum must be part of the equation.

As for the McMachine, if I went to MCD I wouold stop, but since I don't...ever... all I can say is f--k 'em.

Me too, albeit working my way through school in 1978.  Had an old POS 69 Camaro that I could fill up at about 60 cents a gallon and was glad to get out of my folks home and be on my own.  Tuition was an outrageous $4k per annum, so I didn't drive very far.  Didn't have credit cards, didn't need student loans. Still managed to eat without food stamps and live without free health care.

"I was better off earning minimum of 2.60 in 1969 then I would be if I was making minimum today."

That's just it though. The reason wages haven't kept up is because the purchasing power of the dollar has eroded immensely due to money printing by the Fed. I bring up this point all the time with my left-wing buddies who keep demanding higher minimum wage to keep up with inflation. It's a rat race you're NEVER going to win as long as the Fed controls the currency. Wanting higher wages does nothing to stop the Fed from stealing your money with ctrl+P.

Since most people that are poor or middle class earn the vast majority or their income from labor and not from assets that like being inflated, they get fucked over beyond belief when inflation destroys the purchasing power of the wages they earn. It's just another example of why inflation is so devastating to the poor and extremely beneficial for the (well-connected) rich.

In the end, it all goes back to the Fed.

I remember the day i walked into work, back in high school, to find that the minimum wage was increasing. My joy was short-lived as i saw the manager preparing to increase the prices of the products, across the board, by $.05 cents.

It only took a few seconds to understand that not only was my employer taking this action, but their competitors and suppliers, and all the companies that the customers worked for. It cheats everyone. If you weren't making minimum wage, you are now paying more for products and services than you were yesterday. If you WERE making minimum wage, that "raise" you got wasn't really "yours", as it just gets passed along up the chain.

This guy agrees with you.  I do not:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLr5oWfoWRY

Is Peter Schiff telling me that you can double the minimum wage and it would only result in a 15% increase in prices

And you think that is a problem???????????????

Or, as I have posted before, think of it in reverse:  The Walmart workers took a 50% pay cut so that you could get Walmart shit 15% cheaper.  Whoopee doo!  Bargains here we cum!  Are you going to thank the Walmart workers for their 50% sacrifice so you can get shit 15% cheaper?

And as I posted elsewhere on this thread:
20 years ago in my city:  mortgage on decent house = 50% of minimum wage.
Now:  mortgage on cheapest house in cheapest suburb = 100% of minimum wage

Real estate prices don't just affect the house a worker buys.  It has an impact on the land on which factories are built, the profitability of retail centres.  You cry about a minimum wage increase and say it will wreck the economy but totally ignore the effects of real estate prices??????????????

Fucking wake up and use your brain.

Don't act surprised. Japan's already there. They've had those things for over a decade.

What are the long term implications of over-industrialization?

Low wages, high unemployment, high homelessness, low family formation, low birth rates, high level of psychological detachment, prolongued immaturity. Limited self-expression leading to a national and individual identity crisis. And trusty politicians standing by everywhere, ready to take advantage of every human weakness in order to preserve their luxurious and quite old fashion lifestyles.

Automation is here. It cannot be legislated away. Anyone who refuses to preserve margins at the expense of automation is going to loose out to competition. McDonalds is not alone in this. Every chain will have to follow or perish.

Fast food that you eat is already machine processed. Getting rid of the branch worker is the very last step in the process that has been happenning for quite some time.
