I really would like to understand the psychology of the police. How is it that in all these countries they can find people to be police and put down demonstrators like this? Don't the police see and live under the same conditions as the protestors? I guess a paycheck goes a long way toward compliance...
The folks who take those jobs are usually either 'goon types' who join for the same reason certain people here are drawn to law enforcement. But many others do it for the money, and in situations like this often prove to be a weak point. Many change sides when TSHTF (like in Ukraine) because they refuse to fire on their own.
That's why these troops are often sent to areas they don't know. Ethnic or religious differences are exploited as well whenever possible.
