Spot The Difference: Brazil's World Cup Security Edition

Tyler Durden's picture

There are a few images that scream to mind when one thinks about Brazil - dazzling soccer footskills, illustrious dancing, and of course dark-skinned, scantily-clad females... but as The World Cup draws near for the soccer-savvy nation, there will be another image that will likely dominate the headlines...

Left: Gratuitous "Brazil" soccer-playing bikini-wearing woman

Middle: World Cup secuirty "Protective Equipment" that will be worn by Brazil's Major Events Police Battalion

Right: Robocop

As The National Interest reports,

Members of a special unit set up for the tournament and the 2016 Olympics in Rio have been given 200 sets of the 22lb “RoboCop” protective equipment, which is flame resistant to up to 427C.

It includes a helmet and vest that protects the back, chest and shoulders, plastic shin pads, a pepper spray mask and a belt for a.40 calibre pistol, stun gun, handcuffs and baton.

The Major Events Police Battalion, a branch of the military police, was formed in January this year in response to widespread public demonstrations during last year’s Confederations Cup.

That tournament was marred by ugly clashes between police and demonstrators as thousands protested against public spending on the World Cup. Rio de Janeiro will host seven games during the competition, including the final on July 13.

Jose Mariano Beltrame, the state secretary for security, cited “the need to give the military police specialized, efficient and intelligent instruments for patrolling, aimed at the preservation of public order in public places where there is the presence of a crowd of people gathered together”.

Lt. Col. Wagner Villares, the commander of the unit, which has 600 officers, said the equipment would protect officers from missiles such as a firecracker that killed Santiago Andrade, a photographer, earlier this year.

“The plastic uniform is resistant to knocks and blows,” he told news website Ultimo Segundo.

Welcome To Rio - have a nice visit...

Ok - just one more...

Robocop, like most Hollywood movies, was a warning.  Or, perhaps more succinctly, a confession.

"Newly leaked Marine Corps’ documents detail yet another military urban training center that more closely resembles a small U.S. town than a foreign combat zone. The document, entitled “Military Operations on Urban Terrain Collective Training Facility,” details the specifics of a mock 30-acre town located on Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

Originally built in 1990, new additions to the facility, including a Baptist church, a police station and several farmhouses, have transformed the layout of the once “international” town.

According to the military whistleblower who provided the documents to Infowars, U.S. Marines at the facility have been tasked with training soldiers, law enforcement agencies and Homeland Security in skills such as fighting in wooded areas, urban patrolling, forcible entry and night fighting techniques. The facility is also being used to cross train foreign troops from the United Nations and NATO."

Maybe, but we here in Minnesota offer a different solution. 3 1/2" mag 12 gauge deer slug. I dont give a shit what you have for body armor. Velocity x mass = hit by a Mack truck at 1600mph is going to fuck you up whether it penatrates the armor or not

tThe 12 gauge Core-Lokt Ultra sabot bullet is a .50 caliber, 385 grain HP semi-spitzer. The catalog MV is 1900 fps and the 100 yard velocity is 1648 fps. The ME is given as 3086 ft. lbs. and the remaining energy at 100 yards is 2325 ft. lbs. The trajectory of that load looks like this: +1.8" at 50 yards, +2.4" at 100 yards, and +/- 0" at 150 yards.

The most interesting aspect of the World Cup is the upcoming fight between FIFA boss Blatter and EUfA boss Platini who is also alleged to have helped obtain the investiture of the 2022 world cup for Qatar, which is now coming up to increasing criticism; specially fueled by Blatter's recent statement that this FIFA attribution is a MAJOR error, given Qatar's propensity to let its Indian workers die by droves in subhuman conditions on the work sites and given its schedule that obliges the teams to play in blazing summer.

He now points to his own vote for rival USA last year and says its the French and the Germans who pulled the rug from under his feet by voting for Qatar.

This about face by him, now bad mouthing the FIFA decision, a huge money machine he heads thanks to corporate and sovereign sponsors, of which Qatar is pre-eminent, now sounds like sour grapes given his ambition to get re-elected in 2015 as head man against rival Platini.

The sports world is now become NUMERO #1 in the business of Oligarchy crony scams.

THAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE. Lance Armstrong et al have already shown that to the world.

There is no field of human endeavour where "greed is good" has not polluted all honest labor.

PS : Our ever present past French President, the inevitable Sarko, is now alleged to have invited Platini to a dinner with the Prince of Qatar at the ELysee palace where in all diplomatic terms that such a high flying meeting entails the Qatari leader made his hosts and UEFA boss an HONORAbLE offer he could not refuse.

It paid off  dividends that Platini himself ironically says could not be solely attributed to the European voters  of FIFA as they only count for 8 votes out of the 14  in all who voted subsequently for Qatar. There is something very  fishy going on in the kingdom of FIFA !

It was hot enough here in LA. Ugh I've put on the AC.

Ok Brazil, that is related enough to climate to post this: Ben Davidson from Suspicious Observers gives a personal 20 minute overview of how the Fascists behind Agenda 21 and the attempt to take over control of the world through climate change laws is threatening the lives of the best climatologists in the world. It is pretty long but he is really upset that, and these are my words not his, "fascists similar to the Nazis during WWII," are using force to silence scientific discovery and knowledge to advance Agenda 21. He also explains that by doing so the people behind Agenda 21 really are running into tremendous backlash by the scientific community. His daily videos are great and they go onto the net every day at 6:30 Am EST. We are at the onset of an iceage according to the solar shutdown that has begun. And, I think it was in one of the videos of the last two days that he tells of a recent research project that has uncovered its continuous sequence for the last couple hundred thousands of years. By 2030 it is going to be very very cold. Although there will be swings up and down as the climate transitions. This year cold is ruling the average temperatures. He has the best daily weather report and blows away anything you can see on TV. I've been watching daily for the last two years.

Fireproof? And that swimsuit is twice the size of the ones I saw.

Loved visiting Brazil. As soon as you are out of the cities you will see a whole different vibe, totally dude! Beach! Miles and miles of beach with no one but you and yours. Clean water, lush vegetation and great food prepared by mom and pop ( on the beach it would be surfer dude  and his wife/clan ) and served up by the kids.

When we were getting on the bus to Montes Clares from the beach, Itacara, the bus driver took one look at us and told us we were on the wrong bus! Our daughter explained that we were indeed going to a city that tourists don't go to. She was there as an exchange student.

By way of clarification, this special police battalion is part of Brazil's "Policia Militar". The name originates from the days of military dictatorship when they were actually part of the military.

Since democracy took hold (ho-ho) the PM are not part of the military. They now report to the civilian State Governors. They are heavily involved in crime and drug dealing.

Let's think about this for a second. If heat can't get into the suit to burn you, wouldn't it also be true that heat can't escape the suit? You either get cooked by fire or you get cooked from wearing the suit. Pick your poison. Think of it like wearing your winter clothes in summer then trying to run up a hill. Your own body heat will bring you down.
