A Couple Of "Out There" Headlines To Start The Week

Tyler Durden's picture

First, here is one for the Magic Money Tree growers who contend the US dollar will never, ever, with absolute certainty, lose its reserve currency status:

  • PBOC'S PAN CONFIDENT YUAN TO BE RESERVE CURRENCY: SEC. NEWS via BLOOMBERG

Of course, the US is confident that all those aircraft carriers stationed around the world will make sure this never happens. But the US was also sure Russia would fold like a cheap lawn chair on the Ukraine crisis, when in reality it is Putin who has so far been the biggest beneficiary.

And the other headline:

  • JAPAN MAY DEPLOY DEFENSE TROOPS TO SOUTHWEST ISLANDS: YOMIURI via BLOOMBERG

Some more from Yomiuri, as cited by BBG:

  • Japan considers deploying troops in southwestern islands Amami Oshima, Miyako and Ishigaki to step up defense in the regions, Yomiuri newspaper reports, without attribution.
  • Japan may send ~350 self-defense force personnel to each of the three islands: Yomiuri
  • Ishigaki is ~170km away from disputed islands in East China Sea, which are known as Senkaku in Japanese and Diaoyu in Chinese; Miyako is ~210km away from the disputed islands
  • Senior Vice Defense Minister Ryota Takeda to visit Amami Oshima this week to request research for establishment of new station on the island: Yomiuri

Perhaps this brilliant plan to provoke China just a little more as Vietnamese protesters are torching Chinese factories and infuriating the Beijing politburo, is precisely the catalyst China needs to test just how easy it would be to become the next reserve currency (with or without Russia's assistance, even as Putin and the top political and oligarch brass is in China right now finalizing Gazprom's "holy grail" deal with China).

As for the market, so far it violently unchanged especially after the USDJPY almost moved more than 2 pips on the ridiculous Japanese data released earlier.  Almost.

Remarkable that China has not figured out what having a reserve currency entails.  Having a reserve currency enables you to borrow at favorable rates, so you can become the world's largest debtor.  Congratulations, China.

How about an 'out there' byline?  I usually turn the TV off on Sunday night when CBS this morning comes on, but I waited until the end of the first story tonight to hear "This is Lauren Lyster for CBS this morning".  Remains to be seen whether she still wants to make a difference, or now just wants to cash in.  Given the inevitability of the course now set, I am not sure that I could find fault with either.

If it comes to a pissing contest, they ain't no match for the US.   We have had more experience killing other combatants than the UN put together.   Now all we need is another nice little armed conflict in Asia.   Thats part of our pivot to Asia strategy.   Thank you, Ole Great Nobel Peace prize winner.   Greatest President and all round Peace Maker of all time we never had.

Team Obama has got them covered.   POTUS gave assurance American servicemen and servicewomen volunteer to die for them.   Of course, it is all in defence of the US which is just over the horizon.   Thank you Mr President, American lives have so little value.

A nuclear war is relatively painless compared to the blessings we are receiving from the fallout from Fukushima.

Great guy and our best ally, Fukushima Abe.   Americans can hardly wait to sacrifice themselves for you.

What do you guys think,  should we begin shipping the mutants ?

Completely and utterly delusional... for environmental, demographic, health, and resource reasons.

No nation can be a superpower let alone the "reserve currency" if they don't even have enough drinking water to supply their population... let alone their industrial needs.

And the Chinese will have completely exhausted their aquifers by 2030 - those that took millions of years to accumulate.

And we are better water managers because?  China has had a massive population for a long time.  We are still wet behind the the ears and our aquifers are drying up.  Number one use of water in US. is not agriculture or manufacturing- it's for lawns.  Matter of fact how much water do you think NSA uses to cool the Utah data facility-forgot the figure but it is loads.

Have you been a U.S. citizen long?  The government stays out of nothing and more often than not starts the conflict.  Something like 80% of all wars since 1900 instigated or inflamed by U.S.

How exactly is Putin "has so far been the biggest beneficiary?"  Because China has forced him to sell gas at discount?  When there were 2 "steady" buyers - EU and China - gas went to the highest bidder.  Now- not so much.  Oh, and how successful has "Donetsk republic" been in removing Ukrainian troops?  That's perhaps 75% of Donetsk residents do NOT want to join Russia?

And the latest from Crimea:  Putin raised pensions and salaries 2X vs  what Ukraine paid. But retail prices shot up 3X.  People tried to protest liek they used to during the "fascist" Ukrainian rule, ,rut were met with 2000 riot police.  As one of wanna-be protesters pointed out, 2 months ago they protested to join russia, and what they got is a regime that DOES NOT allow protests. LOL.  in 10  years they will be BEGGING for Ukraine to take them back.

Yes, I'm sure protesting the current government in kiev is a cakewalk.

And Russia was selling gas to ukraine at a 50% discount, so...

In 10 years time, maybe they'll be as economically successful as Greece.

Just a note- did you catch the brave individuals speaking at the FCC.  Where was their free speach- their right to protest?  They were hauled off and arresed while the FCC members sat there and smiled.  The U.S. has been captured- worry about getting this government under control and the Ukrainians, Russians, Chinese populations and others will benefit.  If we wish the status quo to be broken we need to get the meassage to the people at the bottom of the pyramid.  Stand outside your local Wal-Mart and let them know the evil the Central Banks have become.  The problem with the U.S. is the Federal Reserve- they supply the money to the oligarchs.  If the U.S. treasury can issue a bond then it can issue a dollar. End the Fed and you will end the oligarchs hold around the world. End the Fed and wars will be shorter. End the Fed and take back our government.

Quoted excerpts:  'America, Japan, and the Cold War'

Government oppression, economic hardship, and the Civil (1945-49) War were the major preoccupations of the intellectual community in 1948. Related to these was the issue of Japan's revival. Concern began to grow as soon as the U.S. plans for the rehabilitation of the Japanese economy and defense capabilities became known. Under Sec. of State, Dean Acheson, revealed the intention to rebuild the Japanese and German economies in may,1947. This sharp break with immediate post-war occupation grew out of the developing Cold War and the American desire to build a strong anti-Communist front in Europe and Asia. The Soviet Union was consolidating its hold over Eastern Europe. The U.S. was responding with the Truman Doctrine, aid to Greece and Turkey, and the Marshall Plan for Western Europe. The post-war world had divided itself into two camps. In China the two sides were already at war, and America's ally [Chiang Kai-shek] was not winning.

Wang Yun-sheng, editor-in-chief of the Ta Kung pao, was among the first to sound the alarm after a two-week trip he made to Japan in 1947. While there he learned that Japanese naval bases and airfields were being repairedrather than dismantled, that the U.S. was training Japanese fliers, and that arms and heavy industries were being restored. The reason for all of this, he declared, wasdefense against communism and against the Soviet Union. The implications for China-- where American-supported anti-Communist forces already included Japanese troops-- seemed clear. Should any incident break out between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R., he wrote: "American warships will carry Japan's 'Kwantung Army' to land again on our NW soil fighting Russia on one hand, and directly undertaking, on behalf of China, the task of 'defense against communist suppression', on the other." This apprehension lay at the heart of the opposition to America's new Japan policy."   end quoted excerpt

Noted Sectional Excerpts,... Three major fears: the danger of renewed aggression once Japan's military capabilities had been restored-- the threat of economic domination of East Asia by an industrialized Japan-- and finally, that in event of war between the Soviet Union and the U.S., Japan would become an American base, and China the battleground.

lastly, and most importantly... with great hindsight, this basic fear that in the event of war between the U.S. and the forces of communism, Japan would become an American base and China the battleground, came close to reality [and WWIII/ 1949 USSR & A-Bomb] within two short years-- except that Chinese soldiers fought on Korean rather than Chinese soil.

Note2:  The San Francisco [Treaty/ NATO/UN/US_Sino-Jap] Conference of 1951?[52] did little to Japan other than release the Korean peninsula to USSR and US and Taiwan[Formosa] to the Republic of China, with much to do nothing else... but, agree never to mobilize their military ever again in a U.S. written Japanese Constitution, and unconditional surrender signed aboard the USS Truman, 1945.

Note3: There will never, ever be frienship between China, Korea, and Taiwan regarding the war crimes committed  by the Jap's... since the early 20th century towards Japan's atrocities!  Period!!!

"Note3: There will never, ever be frienship between China, Korea, and Taiwan regarding the war crimes committed  by the Jap's... since the early 20th century towards Japan's atrocities!  Period!!!"

When we have a POTUS praising Japan for militarizing and assuming a larger role in Asia with absolute American support, it reflects our own memory loss.  We have forgotten Pearl Harbor and atrocities where American POWs were inhumanely treated by this same "ally" during the Bataan Death March.

Then there's the Death Railway in Thailand built by British and Australian POWs, immortalised in the film "Bridge over the River Kwai".  The Japanese Imperial army was exceptional in its barbaric treatment of POWs as well as the civilian populations of the asian countries they had invaded.

And NOW, they are the US's best ally in Asia ?   President Obama must have surprised a lot of people when he didn't make an apology to Fukushima Abe for the US having the audacity to fight back after Pearl Harbor./sarc

Sure, because the British, Soviets and Americans didn't commit any atrocities. We were the "good" guys. Get your head out of your ass. The Allies perpetrated more atrocities than Germany and Japan together. We forced Japan's hand at Pearl Harbor, which was a set up- there is a reason we sailed most of important ships out just before the attack.

Winners write history. You need to dig deep to find the other side of the story. Start digging.
